Three Players Whose Card Values Could GO UP In 2024!

  • Every baseball offseason there are players baseball cards that are just below where you would expect them to be. Heading into the MLB season, you will usually see the baseball cards of most players move upwards as people are speculating on success. In this video I speculate on three players that could have their baseball card values increase in 2024 if they are able to have a full season and live up to their lofty expectations.
    This is not financial advice. Please do your own research on pricing, players, and projected future performance. I am not able to tell the future and all of these players are soley my opinion.

    Awesome content as always Scottie. Shifted my collecting from autos/patch autos to going after PSA 10 flagship base rookies and it’s been super affordable to get these guys. I agree that if Soto stays in NY (which I think he definitely will), his value will continue to climb.
    Just out of curiosity, what’s your thoughts on the base cards/base rookie cards? Seems like the hobby has shifted to where people hate them now lol which is good for collectors like me! Would love to hear your thoughts on that.

    Lindor has peaked. As a career 65 WAR shortstop, he’ll land as a lower tier HOFer slightly below Barry Larkin. Certainly not a Top 100 investable player.
    Tatis (as you said) is a no-touch. He’s forever tainted.
    Soto is a stud. BUY.

  • @TenaciousAC
    @TenaciousAC 7 місяців тому +6

    Lindor sits in a very interesting ‘blind spot’ for the Hobby.
    He’s 9 years into his MLB career and 3 years removed from the end of his run with the Indians. So he’s not the ‘Hot Young Player’ or even the ‘Hot Current Player’.
    But at the other end, he’s still so far from the end of his career (even the end of this contract - 8 more seasons to go) that no-one’s really thinking ‘Hall of Fame’ yet as he has so much to get just to reach the floor of an expected inductee.
    Right now, he’s probably 50% on the path to the Hall of Fame, both in time and required career accumulation.
    Depending on the card and its price, a coin flip like that is very intriguing.

    • @TenaciousAC
      @TenaciousAC 7 місяців тому

      Another way to look at it… he’s played 8 and a bit (the COVID year is the ‘bit’) seasons. He has 8 seasons left on his contract. Let’s double what he does and say that’s his career.
      2600 hits (Top 100 All Time)
      400-430 HRS (58 players with 400+ HRS)
      300 SB
      OPS+ in a 110-115 range
      Does that read like a Hall of Fame career ? I’ll leave that to each reader’s opinion.

      I think we consider a lot of ‘will player X make the Hall’ narrative to assume 1st ballot. I could see Lindor having that career extrapolation I mentioned, but then maybe requiring 4-6 years of ballots to decide his fate (a vote that increases and he would go in, or the votes drop away and he falls off the ballot).

Ever since he showed up as a kid with the Nationals, he's shown an eye hand coordination that is reminiscent of greats like Griffey, Mattingly, Boggs, Bonds and Carew. The uncanny ability to watch the ball into the catchers glove.Then he does a little dance. He's def ready for NYC, and I have no doubts that he will put up numbers.

      @@stormz1243 Maybe you are just a casual baseball fan so I will explain the best I can. Before the umpires used to check the pitchers for foreign substances It was pretty common for pitchers to use foreign substances. When you play in a city like New York or other climates that are cold in the spring time it helps to grip the ball and it actually makes it safer for the batter as well as it will help reduce wild pitches. foreign substances and steroids are not the same thing. Another major difference between these 2 players is now that the umpires are checking the pitchers. Gerrit Cole is still pitching at an elite level and even won a Cy Young award with that rule enforced. Tatis after steroids is not even close to the same hitter. His ops+ dropped from 166 to 113. And as as far as card markets a few years ago Tatis Cards were at the top of the MLB market. Gerrit Cole's market has always been undervalued

      @@nickdrago7390 I fully admit to being a gerrit cole hater. So that’s part of it. Hardly a baseball casual since I played in college and interviewed him when he was on the pirates.
      He started using the sticky stuff in Houston. Not a cold climate so that excuse doesn’t fly. Tatis’s drop off could also have to do with having a shoulder injury. But at the end of day he WAS suspended and Cole didn’t receive any disciplinary action because “everyone was doing it”. Carry on

      @@stormz1243 He won a cy young award when they were checking for it regularly. He is one of the very few players that is actually earning the mega contract he got. I bet you he wins another cy young award this year too.
