My God, those lyrics. To live the joy of The Dance he had to suffer the pain and agony of the break up. And he wouldn't trade or change the events. Brilliant. Heartbreaking but absolutely brilliant lyric.
Hands down one of the best songs ever written. Garth almost didn’t record this song because he didn’t know if it was “country enough”. His producer/friend told him if he didn’t record The Dance,' “it'll be the biggest hit he never had.'"
This song is about so much more than a relationship. It can be applied to a lot of situations. You have to take chances sometimes. You can’t be afraid of failing when you’re pursuing your passion, for instance. It’s really beautiful when you think about it.
He isn’t talking about losing someone. He is saying if had a choice to have loved or not, he thinks it is worth it - even with the knowledge that you will certainly die. Living is worth the pain of death. We are not sad because we die, we are sad because we have to leave the party while it is still going on.
This beautiful song was sung at my uncles funeral. He only had 1 daughter, she planned the whole thing. Her friend that sang this song had a beautiful voice. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.😊❤
Garth has a lot of really good music - but IMO this one is his very BEST. You should also check out The Thunder Rolls (official video or live concert performance if you can), Papa Loved Mama, Ain't Going Down til the Sun Comes Up, and Shameless. Hugs from Canada
Welcome back! I’m glad you found his version, a lot of reactors mistakenly use the one on You-Tube which is a guy that’s covering it. It’s a very close version, but not Garth.
This has a personal meaning for me and I can’t listen to it without being transported back to 1979. A long time ago but still close to my heart. A very sensitive reaction J.🥰
Jayvee, nearly every song that Garth does is this same quality. He has sentimental songs like THE RIVER, he has fun songs like I’VE GOT FRIENDS IN LOW PLACES and AIN’T GONING HOME TIL THE SUN COMES UP, Rodeo songs. He does one about domestic violence THE THUNDER ROLLS, THE DANCE is a metaphor for life, expressing how if we knew the future we could escape the bad things, but in doing so we would have to also miss the good parts that go along with it. So it is better that we d know what is coming and just live our lives.
This song was how I was introduced to Garth. Unfortunately. It was played at a friend’s Mom’s funeral, and it was brutal, cathartic and inspiring all at one. Not a dry eye in the church. The man is a once in a generation artist. I own everything he’s released and have seen him four times in concert over the years. And through it all, this song, with its multiple meanings, remains my favorite. Good video man - thx
This song makes me cry everytime I hear it.My cousin died New Years Eve 1998,she was in her late 20's.She loved this song so they played it at her funeral.
I hardly ever listen to Garth Brooks anymore, but man I need to, this was great. He is one of those legendary musicians, like Rush, The Who, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, etc. Where every song is great! Not just good, but great. They might not all be hits, but every song is powerful and means something and hits a certain way. There is not many artist where you can put on an album and like every single song on it. Garth Brooks is one of those artist, just like the others I have named. So, I would love to see you go down the Garth Brooks rabbit hole, nobody really does it because you can't find it anywhere but Amazon, and some bootlegged versions on UA-cam, or a cover version. And, if it really shows how amazing Garth Brooks is, the people that cover his songs are nowhere near as good as Garth does them, but every single reaction to the Garth covers talk about how amazing he sounds, until they really hear Garth and then they know. So, to just think that people covering his work would almost pass for him, if you never heard him. Here is some of my favorites, and they are all different, if you can tell from The Dance to Friends in Low Places. One of my all time favorites of his is "Rodeo" I will put that first on the list. 1. Rodeo 2. Unanswered Prayers 3. Papa Loved Mama 4. The River 5. What She's Doing Now 6. Standing Outside the Fire 7. We Shall Be Free 8. The Chase 9. Two of a Kind, Workin' On a Full House 10. Shameless 11. Thunder Rolls 12. Walking After Midnight
Bummer you can't see the official video too. It's very cool & shows famous people we have lost, like Martin Luthur King Jr. & the astronauts on the Challenger etc. Showing, they might have not been lost, but they would have to miss what they were doing in their lives.
Powerful Song and one of Garth Brooks best. You do not become the youngest recipient of the Gershwin award for the Library of Congress unless you have a stellar body of work. I was not a country fan until I heard Garth Brooks in the 90 S but whether you like country or not he probably has at least one song that everybody likes/can relate to-this shows how incredible an artist he is.
Garth!!! Was a staple for any county music fan in the 90s. The live version of Calling Baton Rouge is a BANGER and my fave!!!! Check it out, it'll impress you, I promise!!
"The Dance" is in reference to life as a whole. If we knew about the hardships we are gonna face in life, one might choose to not participate in "the dance" to keep from suffering. But it's better to take part in that dance, then to never "dance" at all.
This song is very close to my heart. I was fortunate to see him live and it is still my favorite one ever. The energy and stage presence was out of this world!
When he was first coming up, he’d done a terrific song “Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House”. Very fun. Good play on words. “Friends in Low Places”, “Unanswered Prayers”, and “The Thunder Rolls” from that album are also fantastic. He’d been touring on this album, opening for Barbara Mandrell. (The Mandrell Sisters had a tv variety show. Another thing to check out.) I’d had tickets to see them, but then “Two of a Kind…” hit. Mark Collie replaced him on the tour. I didn’t get to see Garth until quite a few years later. Mark Collie was good.
Thank you for listening to my all-time favorite country song that I suggested! I knew you’d enjoy it. 😊 Another great song from Garth is “Standing Outside the Fire.”
I would never call myself a fan of country music but theres are a couple artists that just hit different to me and Garth is one of those. Gives me chills
First! Got tired of this song when it came out in the early nineties. Lived in Texas then different times. Great reaction to a song I can finally listen to again.
To know the joy and exuberance of life and its different paths we sometimes have to take chances, and they don't always work out long term. Garth's emotional words and delivery are strong and vulnerable at the same time. I continue to love this.
Continue this journey. Garth has a fantastic catalog. Shameless, We Shall Be Free, The Dance, Rodeo, Standing Outside The Fire, To Make You Feel My Love, Ireland, Two Pina Coladas, She’s Every Woman, and Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) are my all time favorites. And Garth in concert is ahhh-mazing. One of the best shows I’ve been too.
This is one of my favourites. He has so many amazing songs as mentioned in the comments already. Songs like thunder rolls, if tomorrow never comes, the River. Another favourite of mine- The Red Strokes.
Garth is the reason I started listening to country music. I don't listen too much anymore because I'm not a fan of where it's gone as a genre, but Garth ... I will always love his music. I started with cassette tapes, bought it all on CD and then re-bought it all on mp3. Lol. I've seen him in concert on multiple occasions and he is a consumate entertainer! This song ... well. This song helps me through all types of loss in my life. Ain't nobody like Garth.
Garth is amazing!! I’m not a huge country fan but started listening to him, Kenny Roger’s, and Alabama growing up and I was able to get into a lot more country because of that.
Oh goodness, I love this song so much. Right up there with "The River", which you should react to! Still hard to believe this was off his debut, too. He just comes at you, emotionally. So tender and beautiful. His expression has always been a favorite!
I'm a rocker chick & never seen, less listen, to country music... BUT I just saw him last Friday night, in Nashville, from the 3rd row, center stage. I'm sold on Garth Brooks! I get it! The man is so good to his fans and puts on an amazing show!! 🤠🎙🎸😍
I had no idea I could get his music through Amazon I have been wanting a source. I was about to go buy a new C.D. cause my old ones are all so scratched at this point. I need Garth Brooks music in my life. I went to see him live in 2016 best concert I have ever been too. I do not listen to country a lot but Garth is more than country.
More people will relate to country than they think they will...... This is one of the Best........ Keep going, you are finding so much great music......
A great song from Garth Brooks.. One of the best but at the same time the saddest... Lots of love to Country Music... By the way, welcome back Jovaughn.. You didn't post reaction videos for quite some time.. 😁
This is the gateway song in my opinion. Once I heard this particular song, I was stunned that I actually got into the genre. He's got so much talent. Glad you are trying this out :)
One of his bests. Like someone else said in the comments, this goes beyond just a relationship, it can be anything in life. If we knew the negative ending, we would avoid whatever it is and miss the beautiful journey. Thunder rolls is a great one as well.
I love country music... awesome reaction. this song hits me hard my son took his own life and i never got to say goodbye and didn't get to tell him i loved him one more time i pray he knew i loved him i couldn't stand it if he doesn't know. and my baby was murdered in 1979 while she was still in my belly. So much loss and pain.
I'm a metalhead, but I can say that this is one of the greatest songs of all time. Period.
That's what Garth does- turn people into country fans! You can't go wrong with Garth. All his songs are great!
My God, those lyrics. To live the joy of The Dance he had to suffer the pain and agony of the break up. And he wouldn't trade or change the events. Brilliant. Heartbreaking but absolutely brilliant lyric.
Garth really is an incredible talent. He has a beautiful voice.
I never think of myself as a country fan, but I am definitely a Garth Brooks fan. This song gets ya in the feels.
Yes🙏 This was played at my parents funeral! Always has a place in my heart.
He isn’t talking about losing someone. He is saying if had a choice to have loved or not, he thinks it is worth it - even with the knowledge that you will certainly die. Living is worth the pain of death.
We are not sad because we die, we are sad because we have to leave the party while it is still going on.
It's the honesty in his voice - beautifully produced - but honest.
This beautiful song was sung at my uncles funeral. He only had 1 daughter, she planned the whole thing. Her friend that sang this song had a beautiful voice. There wasn't a dry eye in the house.😊❤
This song is special to me. It was played at my grandfather's funeral and makes me remember him.
Garth has a lot of really good music - but IMO this one is his very BEST. You should also check out The Thunder Rolls (official video or live concert performance if you can), Papa Loved Mama, Ain't Going Down til the Sun Comes Up, and Shameless. Hugs from Canada
Garth doesn't have a "best" song. There's only the next song by him you hear.
Love this list, I would also add The River. You could also try Martina McBride. Concrete Angel, Broken Wing and Independence Day get me every time.
If Tomorrow Never Comes.....a must listen to.
Welcome back! I’m glad you found his version, a lot of reactors mistakenly use the one on You-Tube which is a guy that’s covering it. It’s a very close version, but not Garth.
Another song he does that is on the level of this one is "The River." This is one of my favorite songs of his. Deep.
He does one about domestic violence THE THUNDER ROLLS,

TOLD YA, BRAH! THIS SONG IS ONE OF THE BEST EVER!
Unanswered Paryers by Garth Brooks is another good one and Keeper of the Stars by Tracy Byrd and When I said I do by Clint Black
I came here to mention “Unanswered Prayers.” You beat me to it.
Oh yes! I have t heard that one in a minute
Great suggestions
This song was how I was introduced to Garth. Unfortunately. It was played at a friend’s Mom’s funeral, and it was brutal, cathartic and inspiring all at one. Not a dry eye in the church.

This song makes me cry everytime I hear it.My cousin died New Years Eve 1998,she was in her late 20's.She loved this song so they played it at her funeral.
I started crying instantly. This was my parents song. But my mom died when she was 40. My father was never the same
I'm so sorry to hear about your loss and your dad's loss. What a bittersweet life we live in, when we love deeply we have to eventually lose deeply.
This was my parents song as well when my mom was dying at age 37 of a brain cancer. I cry every time. Bless you.
What a deep love he must have had for her
This was my father/daughter dance song at my wedding in memory of my mom, who had passed away the year before. Great song.
Garth Brooks all of his music is wonderful! King of 90s country music🔥🔥🔥
One of the greatest country songs ever!
One the Best songs ever written… 🙏😃💖

I will put that first on the list.
1. Rodeo
2. Unanswered Prayers
3. Papa Loved Mama
4. The River
5. What She's Doing Now
6. Standing Outside the Fire
7. We Shall Be Free
8. The Chase
9. Two of a Kind, Workin' On a Full House
10. Shameless
11. Thunder Rolls
12. Walking After Midnight
All great songs! Love Garth!

This song has been played at weddings, funerals, graduations and for me, the end of my 20 year marriage. Everything we do in life is The Dance.
There is a difference between being a country music fan and a Garth fan. .And great reaction by you over this video. 👍

First! Got tired of this song when it came out in the early nineties. Lived in Texas then different times. Great reaction to a song I can finally listen to again.
Ah, my wife’s favorite song! She loves everything Garth but this one hits her hard.
To know the joy and exuberance of life and its different paths we sometimes have to take chances, and they don't always work out long term. Garth's emotional words and delivery are strong and vulnerable at the same time. I continue to love this.
Watching young people embrace this wonderful music warms my soul.
Garth Brooks does have so many great tunes. Love this one, The Thunder Rolls is another great one to check out ❤️
Seen Garth in concert several years ago and he is just a good live. One of the best concerts I've ever been to. Great reaction!! 🙂
as much hip hop I listen to I still have Garth on my playlist lol
One of the most beautiful songs EVER! 💯❤ His voice!🔥 Great reaction! I am going to watch this again right now!
Continue this journey. Garth has a fantastic catalog. This song always makes me tear up. He was at the top of his game in the 90s I think I had every one of his albums
Aww, I had goosebumps from this! He has such a beautiful and soothing voice.
If you ever get the chance to watch the video do it. Gives me chills everytime.
Garth is the man! I loved him from way back, his voice is soooooo goooood.. :)
Standing outside the fire. My favorite by Garth. Please have a listen
This is one of my favourites. He has so many amazing songs as mentioned in the comments already. Songs like thunder rolls, if tomorrow never comes, the River.
Another favourite of mine- The Red Strokes.
I think of my dad who lost almost 4 years. Miss you Daddy. each and every day. I cry everytime I hear this classic

Love seeing a man that is willing to show his emotions.
The video is a must watch when doing this song.
This is my all time favorite Garth Brooks song
Garth Brooks has such a strong, powerful voice that touches your heart and soul! 🙂
Garth Brooks is why I became a country fan.
A wonderful song and a brilliant singer. God bless you all love and hugs Mary-Ellen UK
Garth is amazing!! I’m not a huge country fan but started listening to him, Kenny Roger’s, and Alabama growing up and I was able to get into a lot more country because of that.
I LOVE Garth. Hes legendary. SO many good songs... If "Tomorrow Never comes"is great. My favorite is probably "Shameless"
Oh goodness, I love this song so much. Right up there with "The River", which you should react to! Still hard to believe this was off his debut, too. He just comes at you, emotionally. So tender and beautiful. His expression has always been a favorite!
Instant tears. Ughh this dang song every time 😂 Thank you. One of the most beautiful songs ever. 👌🏼😭💕
Love this as well as “To Make You Feel My Love”.
His concerts shown on tv were so ELECTRIC!!
I'm a rocker chick & never seen, less listen, to country music... BUT I just saw him last Friday night, in Nashville, from the 3rd row, center stage. I'm sold on Garth Brooks! I get it! The man is so good to his fans and puts on an amazing show!! 🤠🎙🎸😍
It's a beautiful song isn't it? Makes you reflect on life memories. People. Amazing stuff.
This right here..I haven’t listened to it in a long time but I had tears welling up listening to this. So much emotion..so beautiful but sad..
Loved ur reaction. Wasn't ever a big Garth fan, but this song is simply gorgeous.
I'm not a big country music fan,but this is such a beautiful song. Makes me cry every time. Great reaction❤❤❤
More people will relate to country than they think they will...... This is one of the Best........ Keep going, you are finding so much great music......
Can I just say, watching you react and feel the music is amazing, this one actually brought me to tears. Thanks for sharing.
Country music is the only genre that can bring tears out of me. There are a couple country songs that are very hard hitting.
Garth is the best. Love his 🎵 songs. Your reaction was awesome. Thx for sharing ♥
My favorite Garth Brooks song right here, such a beautiful song. In the music video to it even more powerful
Garth Brooks... Ain't going down till the sun comes up
Oh Jovaughn... this song, I forgot how much it meant to me. Like of a time I'd almost forgot. Thank you for doing this one
The great thing about country music is the story telling. It’s right out front, no hidden meanings.
The video for this will have you in tears, especially when it shows Martin Luther King Jr. holding his babies. Whew. Tear-jerker.
Garth Brooks is so amazing
If tomorrow never comes is another great song by him
Love Garth Brooks, and this is one of my favorites of all time. Thank you for your reaction!
It's even better watching the music video of this song
A great song from Garth Brooks.. One of the best but at the same time the saddest... Lots of love to Country Music...
By the way, welcome back Jovaughn.. You didn't post reaction videos for quite some time.. 😁
This song is so beautiful beyond words. I had goosebumps the first time I heard it
One of my favorite songs! Thanks for sharing!
This is the gateway song in my opinion. Once I heard this particular song, I was stunned that I actually got into the genre. He's got so much talent. Glad you are trying this out :)
Love Garth Brooks! Great reaction to a legend!! 💕🔥
One of his bests.
Like someone else said in the comments, this goes beyond just a relationship, it can be anything in life. If we knew the negative ending, we would avoid whatever it is and miss the beautiful journey.
Thunder rolls is a great one as well.
Your videos are so honest and great. I like the ones like this without the music video too. Just the song. Much better. Keep up the good work.
My mom asked for this to be played at her funeral. It was beautiful
This music video is AMAZING too! Love this! A classic! ❤️
When he sings about the dance, he’s talking about the dance of life. Could of missed the pain, but he would of missed the dance of life- no regrets ❤️
Not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry I’m not gonna cry sending love to you and yours from Orlando Florida
Oooohhhh. Garth is so wonderful. We played this song at my dad's funeral. Thanks for this one J. Great memories ❤️🇨🇦
it means so much more then lost love
