The first time I prayed to Hel was actually when I tried to reach out to a friend who had passed away a few years back. Like you, I thought it was only polite to ask for her permission before trying to contact the dead. It was the strangest thing. As I prayed, it was like she put up a wall of grief and wouldn't let me through. The emotion hit me so hard that I started crying almost immediately. After some meditation on the moment, I saw that she was forcing me to realize that I had yet to fully accept that my friend was really gone. I took some time to sit on this and tried again after a few months. This time I felt what can best be described as a maternal hug.
Hel is the only deity I've connected with since I became a Norse pagan about three or so years ago, in the beginning I tried connecting with others such as Freyr, Freyja, Odin, Thor and Frigg, but I never made a connection. I began to feel like I was doing everything wrong, and so I sat at my altar with little hope, feeling lost, and just tried to connect to anyone, and as it would turn out, it was Hel, I knew immediately despite never having connected with her prior, it was an unforgettable experience, and since then I've worked with Hel exclusively. I don't try to speak to her super often, but any time I do it's a very powerful experience. She is exactly the same as you described her, kind, motherly, warm, loving, and caring. I feel that Hel is very misunderstood by most people, and I wish for everyone to have the opportunity to work with her at least once.
(Personal Gnosis): I think that Hel is meant to connect us with the parts of Life and Death that we don't like. Hence the names of places, items and people. The wording in Snorri's writings make it seem as she is the one causing famine, plagues, etc. But is not that, they are just part of her purview. I work a lot with bone in my rituals. What ever bone I find, I always ask permition from: the animal first and to Hel. And then, after, whatever I'm going to do with them, even if I'm going to consacrate them to other deities, I first consacrate them to Her. (Trigger warning for the next part: Suicide) She first appeared to me to help me a with the mourning of a dear friend who passed away after taking her own life.During those first interactions she would appear with her living half resembling my friend and offer me her living hand but when I was about to take it, she would withdrawn it. And then offer me her death hand instead, which I first refused to take many times out of fear, disgust and rehection. Until I understood that I had to take her dead hand. And accept the death of my friend. After that she stoped appearing in her guise. Hel is connected with decay and putrefaction: the processes of breaking down organic matter. She introduced me to Loki, Fenrir and Angrboda. She likes offerings of Absinthe, which I also use for libations when working with her family.

I started working with her after deciding to portray her at the renfaire this year. It’s how I’m paying my patronage to her. She’s taken me to Helhiem in my dreams and let me see my grandmother. I feel safe with her I have never felt more safe than I do know. I requested for her. I asked her how do I show my respect for her and she just started sticking around. I love her.
When my wife had a miscarriage i was still finding my way I mixed up signs from ntc with hel in my grief while my family was blasting me with Bible quotes it was loki who comforted us and nyx who directed me to hel and she helped me through the darkest days of my life far cry from any expectations sometimes her methods are strange but it always sets your right
Something I heard from another video or interview (I forget which), give respect to whatever gods or goddess’ that resides over the underworlds, because more often than not we will end up there. After that I decided to work with Hel and give dedication. I have gotten many signs from her. I never thought to do shadow work with her. She is not harsh, she is straightforward. She tells it how it is, no sugar coating anything. Until now, she has never asked me for anything in exchange but you have to be willing to do your part when you ask for her help.
Hel is definitely coming across as mothering and comforting to me. I recently had an experience with her that made me realize she’s been with me all my life. I had an experience with her in my dreams for a while. I also experienced the dead animals thing. Two dead bats, a dead frog, dead lizards and dead birds when I ignored her. She kept inviting me into her hall and telling me to sit and eat with her (in my dreams). Ofc I was terrified, cuz when She who resides over death tells you to sit at her table you're bloody suspicious. But night after night she persisted, until she appeared in _my_ kitchen in the dream. I made her and me some black tea and we sat down at my table. She was pretty blunt in saying I needed to venerate my ancestors. She asked me why I accept the living and the gods can change but don't think the dead can. And said that death is often a catalyst for change. She said that I should try it out, and if someone is still an asshole I can just cut them out of my practice, since I have no business with someone who breaks frith. It really helped me accept the fact that just because someone was a horrible person during their life doesn't mean their ideas haven't changed in death.
I saw a dead cat once on the side of the road frozen from winter last year. I've been wanting to work with .my grandma whose passed on so she's an ancestor now.
A few months ago she appeared in my dream (again) with the rune hagalaz. She was chased by men and she unleashed her power on them, out of fear. I felt her pain and the whole dream was like deja vu. I've always felt drawn to her, like a deeper form of bond. She was in my dreams since i was a little kid (like 3 years old or sooner), and i had no idea about norse gods back then. When i finally discovered them everything made sense. It felt like she asked me to help her and she healed me in return (from severe mental illnesses). She is not an evil monster as most people think. She is a mentor, a friend and a powerful goddess who wants to help where she can. That doesn't mean she can't break under pressure: remember, monsters are made, not born.
How exciting we have had very similar experience with Hel. On difference really is Frigg told me to speak to Hel for my trauma. You are so right too she motherly and has never asked me for anything either other than to be patient with myself.
Her teaching to me was "Out with the old, and in with the new." She's very comforting to me when I'm going through a significant change. And you're right, her presence is very motherly.
Loki was the one who urged me to contact Hel. In my experience she is kind and has helped me with the sudden death of my cousin. She acts like a friend/sister with me and I very much appreciate her.
Hel always seemed to me from a philosophical perspective as a caregiver - the old and inferred went to her and it didn't seem like they got an awful afterlife. Maybe not a massive forever party for DA FRAT BOIZ but whatever 😅 I've never worked with a deity but I like her

You mentioned using black obsidian while working with her, and I just wanted to point out that that seems to be a common stone to use when working with the different gods of the Underworld in other pantheons. I know it's a highly protective stone, but I wonder what else would make it be cherished by so many similar deities.

I've recently began following and working with Loki and trying to communicate with him and honestly it's funny sometimes. He likes to give maybes or "meh, either way" types of answers. I don't know if its just him being lenient or joking around but it gets to be entertaining.

I was verifying that I was speaking with him and every question I asked him about his children or stories I got correct answers, but if I asked him directly that it was him he'd give me "mostly yes" or "kind of". Never a straight full yes. I learned to kind of trust the intuition with him because I couldn't take some of his answers at face value

I wanted to share with you my experiences with Hades and Persephone (especially her Underworld aspect): they are very similar to Hel, they are content and don't ask me to do stuff for them. Of course they enjoy offerings, but they are very generous and helpful Deities. I really enjoy working with them. ✨ Also they aren't scary at all.

This Halloween i had one kitten that died and the next day just on full moon another died and resurrected in its body. after 11pm it entered the gate of my house and then the door. Then it was smelly and sick for four days. I was told to give it red wine to make it feel better and i gave it to him. As soon as i gave it some red wine it started jumping full of joy and playing. Just the day before yesterday a snake came close to my door and the guys by me killed it because we didn't know how dangerous and venomous it was. And the moon was like never before. It has round large circles of different colours around it the night when the dead kitten resurrected,since i checked myself the kitten was already cold and its heart was not beating during the day. It was really disgusting miraculous and pretty scary. The kitten was smelly weak before i gave it some red wine, on the advice of one of my friends. Tomorrow i give some more wine to it do it gets absolutely perfect. By the was this year two months ago i collected the grape for the wine and it is a bissarabic (Ismail) wine that will be ready on 17 November. It has to stay for 40 days to mature
Agree with everything you said. She is incredibly motherly, but she can be stern. I always have the urge to kiss the dalmatian stone skull I have for her on my altar after I put her candles out lol I found out she wanted to work with me when I got a reading, and as soon as I said "okay", she was there immediately. She was very outspoken from the start about how much she loved dogs lol she's never been picky about offerings, either. Like I gave her pigeon feathers from my pet pigeons and asked her if she liked them, and in my mind I saw a clear image of pigeons on some kind of stone architecture - I think she was telling me that she had some in her realm. I'm happy that there is so much more info about her online - when I first started working with her, this stuff wasn't quite as easy for me to find, so I developed my own UPG for her. I know she loves anything black an white, she accepts bird feathers, and she likes reptile skin sheds (she's accepted skin from my snake and my bearded dragon). She did share some info with me about me being a devotee to her in a past life and that I stayed in Helheim for a period of time. I *was* told that goes against the mythology, but I swear I heard her loud and clear 🤷♀ probably nobody will believe that, but it's fine, I know what she told me lol I had a period of several months where I wasn't participating in spiritual practice recently, but I've come back and she was still right there for me. I love her dearly, and I'm glad to have Hel in my life
So I get tired sometimes during the day and I fell asleep.i was listening to Hels playlist and it was like I was in this warm yet cold place(I have amphabtaia but I can still feel a vision instead of seeing it ) it was like we were walking together she was talking to me about how I left things with my grandmother and that it wasn't my fault for running. I definitely plan on doing something special for Hel. She welcomed me into her hall to see my grandma when I needed to. My grandmother died of dementia. Hel was very kind to me not scary at all. She's just goth. I'm a bit of a writer so it's like im narrating my dreams in a way.
Also one thing I'd like to add. Dead and rotting things might be good representation of who the offering goes to, but shouldn't be the only thing. Like Nebula told Thanos about Death in Infinity War when he sacrificed the entire universe to her. He was a fool because he didn't give her anything except more work'' I don't want to constantly remind lady Hel of her duties. (UPG)

Hel stepped into my life after my breakup and has been really helping me through, I had always had an interest in her and felt her presence the few first weeks leading up to my breakup. She didn’t fully make herself known until my relationship was fully over which I find kind of funny. The first deity I ever tried to establish a relationship with was freyja who I do still give a place at my altar but learned she’s only really meant to aid me maybe a few times a year, when Hel showed up I immediately felt that she wanted to be present in my daily life whereas I feel like I really have to do a lot for Freyja to interact with me, I still do weekly offerings to both.
I think that’s why Hel was reaching out and around was because I was doing a lot of shadow work. I have been working through trauma so offering that to her would make sense.
Ok seeing this video I am now totally confused looking at my alter. Like is it for Lilith or is it for Hel. I know in the past year and a half they have both been around. I am new to deities, cause well trauma. I know it’s them due to my own divination and trusted others also confirming. Could it be both. I’ve just been tossing things up there. Slowly putting down cloths etc. is that possible. To build an alter for two deities based solely on intuition. Think I’m gonna need to fix that.
Recently I've had some anxiety about death and what comes after, and I've made it clear I'm interested with working with a deity. In less than 24 hours I've found a dead rat and bird so I don't know if they could be signs. I do own a cat that does like to kill something every now and then but she's never killed in this short of a time frame before. I know it could all be a coincidence but something tells me it might not and I should defiantly keep note of it if this continues.
If you feel like it could be a sign then you should definitely keep an eye out for more! Especially because 2 dead animals in such a short period of time after you asked for a deity to work with doesn’t seem like a coincidence 😅 maybe you could also just ask Hel whether they were signs from her? ☺️
This video is very helpful! I have always been a very spiritual person but only recently started to dabble into witchcraft so everything is still very new. I do know however that hel has reached out to me and I would love to work with her. It is just so hard to find the real stories and not the versions of her influenced by Christianity. I do have a question though. After you have made an offering. Let's say a feather, stone but more specific something that can decay like food, drinks flowers. How long do you leave it for? Because I assume that at some point you have to trow it out . Also how do you get your answers from her? You said she told you what she likes but as she is my first deity I start to work with so I do wonder what the best method is to reach out to her. So far it has been mostly dreams for me but could a pendulum for example also be used in deity work?
Ive always been drawn towards goddess of the underworld. Ive discovered through a ritual that Persephone is my mother goddess but ive alway felt called to honor hel too. Ive gotten a tattoo for her because i truly love her work and myths. Im planning on making an altar for her and honoring her together with persephone. Anyone has any thoughts on this? My tattoo is not magical but ive thought of turning it into an image that i can alway access. Gonna try talking to her first.
I recently had a dream where I was rescuing a blackbird it died and its rotted wing got stuck in my hair as it fell off, flies buzzed around it. My dead dog came back she was showing us tricks she learned. Afterwards I was in a overgrown ruin it was also a video game a friend gave me a purple orb they found in a tree. A sickly faerie looking woman needed it so I gave it to her and she turned into hel the group I was with and “video game” I believed I was in was telling me she was evil. So I got annoyed that they villainized her. The “game” gave me a dialogue option to roast her so I did she laughed. I thought she was some badly written imitation of her and I was restricted by video game mechanics. But she was chill and having fun we sat next to each other on a step and talked about infinity train. Although she wasn’t interested she was happy to understand how I relate to lake in the second season. She was like a fun rebellious big sister. I just wish I had more awareness and control during the dream. Although I am new to wicca I picked hel to begin with as I was learning but she didn’t interact with me until now. Slowly I found the Morrigan I have seen her often in dreams. I have been trying to connect with Hephaestus but had no response. I occasionally give the gods speeches about being warriors in this cruel world instead of prayers as I feel they deserve something more personal they also seem to like that.
I'm starting to conect with Hell and for me those offerings weren't obvious 😅 hehe but idk when I ask her what she would like to as an offer my frist thought was blueberries and then berries in general like strawberry, blackberries. What do you think?
Just wondering: Does Hel deal with both death and regeneration; or does she just receive and look after the spirits of the deceased? In a lot of pantheons, the deity associated with death also deals in rebirth. I still have a lot of reading up to do with the Norse pantheon... :)
I have worked with Hel for quite a long time now and my experience with her has been similar. She is very comforting and helpful. My offerings to her are usually dead/dying flowers, bones, skulls/skeletal images/items, and apples. Oh boy, does she ever love when I give her apples. If you ever want to see something rot in hyper-speed, just put it on your altar to Hel. XD One time I went to visit her shrine on consecrated grounds I had a big bag of apples in my backpack for snacking on. Before I entered the shrine, I inspected each apple and I pulled out all the apples that were starting to have that rubbery feeling so I could leave them as an offering. I stayed for awhile and when I left, I was quite hungry, so I went to pull out one of my remaining apples to eat, and every remaining apple now had huge spots of rot on them. We're talking 4-5 apples that were all good 20 minutes ago. Moral of the story, never bring anything into her shrine that you wouldn't leave as an offering, because she may choose to take it anyway. ( I obviously went back and left her the rest of the apples since that seemed to be what she wanted. ) I learned a valuable lesson that day. She is kind and a caretaker, truly, but she will always take what she perceives is hers.
I am working with Nyx and Lilith currently, but I'm wondering wether to add Hel or Anubis to my Deities. Purely out of the fact I'm entering Mortuary Science.

That the Norse afterlife seems kind of dark COULD be caused by most of the sources talkin about them having been written by Christian’s. But we’ll never know for sure 🥲 but for me Valhalla and Fólkvangr definitely don’t sound bad 🙊

History is nice and good to know but Hel isn't wearing some dark robe today, she's in blue jeans and a t-shirt. You need to upgrade your consciousness to the present day. I do not know who you are communicating with in the cosmos, but if I were you, I would ask her for what her true name is right now. Make sure you aren't in contact with Freya pretending to be Hel, okay, just to be sure for yourself. Hel's brain/body/soul is on earth, not in heaven. She does not accept worship, gifts, offerings, and giving her any is the wrong thing to do, stop it. She is not like the other gods, and they don't like her. But she will prevail.

Also: her relarionship with Baldr is not what it seems.

She kept inviting me into her hall and telling me to sit and eat with her (in my dreams). Ofc I was terrified, cuz when She who resides over death tells you to sit at her table you're bloody suspicious. But night after night she persisted, until she appeared in _my_ kitchen in the dream. I made her and me some black tea and we sat down at my table. She was pretty blunt in saying I needed to venerate my ancestors. She asked me why I accept the living and the gods can change but don't think the dead can. And said that death is often a catalyst for change. She said that I should try it out, and if someone is still an asshole I can just cut them out of my practice, since I have no business with someone who breaks frith. It really helped me accept the fact that just because someone was a horrible person during their life doesn't mean their ideas haven't changed in death.
I saw a dead cat once on the side of the road frozen from winter last year. I've been wanting to work with .my grandma whose passed on so she's an ancestor now.

A few months ago she appeared in my dream (again) with the rune hagalaz. She was chased by men and she unleashed her power on them, out of fear. I felt her pain and the whole dream was like deja vu. I've always felt drawn to her, like a deeper form of bond. She was in my dreams since i was a little kid (like 3 years old or sooner), and i had no idea about norse gods back then. When i finally discovered them everything made sense. It felt like she asked me to help her and she healed me in return (from severe mental illnesses). She is not an evil monster as most people think. She is a mentor, a friend and a powerful goddess who wants to help where she can. That doesn't mean she can't break under pressure: remember, monsters are made, not born.

How exciting we have had very similar experience with Hel. On difference really is Frigg told me to speak to Hel for my trauma. You are so right too she motherly and has never asked me for anything either other than to be patient with myself.
Her teaching to me was "Out with the old, and in with the new." She's very comforting to me when I'm going through a significant change. And you're right, her presence is very motherly.
Loki was the one who urged me to contact Hel. In my experience she is kind and has helped me with the sudden death of my cousin. She acts like a friend/sister with me and I very much appreciate her.

You mentioned using black obsidian while working with her, and I just wanted to point out that that seems to be a common stone to use when working with the different gods of the Underworld in other pantheons. I know it's a highly protective stone, but I wonder what else would make it be cherished by so many similar deities.

I've recently began following and working with Loki and trying to communicate with him and honestly it's funny sometimes. He likes to give maybes or "meh, either way" types of answers. I don't know if its just him being lenient or joking around but it gets to be entertaining.

I was verifying that I was speaking with him and every question I asked him about his children or stories I got correct answers, but if I asked him directly that it was him he'd give me "mostly yes" or "kind of". Never a straight full yes. I learned to kind of trust the intuition with him because I couldn't take some of his answers at face value

I wanted to share with you my experiences with Hades and Persephone (especially her Underworld aspect): they are very similar to Hel, they are content and don't ask me to do stuff for them. Of course they enjoy offerings, but they are very generous and helpful Deities. I really enjoy working with them. ✨ Also they aren't scary at all.

This Halloween i had one kitten that died and the next day just on full moon another died and resurrected in its body. after 11pm it entered the gate of my house and then the door. Then it was smelly and sick for four days. I was told to give it red wine to make it feel better and i gave it to him. As soon as i gave it some red wine it started jumping full of joy and playing. Just the day before yesterday a snake came close to my door and the guys by me killed it because we didn't know how dangerous and venomous it was. And the moon was like never before. It has round large circles of different colours around it the night when the dead kitten resurrected,since i checked myself the kitten was already cold and its heart was not beating during the day. It was really disgusting miraculous and pretty scary. The kitten was smelly weak before i gave it some red wine, on the advice of one of my friends. Tomorrow i give some more wine to it do it gets absolutely perfect. By the was this year two months ago i collected the grape for the wine and it is a bissarabic (Ismail) wine that will be ready on 17 November. It has to stay for 40 days to mature

I found out she wanted to work with me when I got a reading, and as soon as I said "okay", she was there immediately. She was very outspoken from the start about how much she loved dogs lol she's never been picky about offerings, either. Like I gave her pigeon feathers from my pet pigeons and asked her if she liked them, and in my mind I saw a clear image of pigeons on some kind of stone architecture - I think she was telling me that she had some in her realm. I'm happy that there is so much more info about her online - when I first started working with her, this stuff wasn't quite as easy for me to find, so I developed my own UPG for her. I know she loves anything black an white, she accepts bird feathers, and she likes reptile skin sheds (she's accepted skin from my snake and my bearded dragon).
She did share some info with me about me being a devotee to her in a past life and that I stayed in Helheim for a period of time. I *was* told that goes against the mythology, but I swear I heard her loud and clear 🤷♀ probably nobody will believe that, but it's fine, I know what she told me lol
I had a period of several months where I wasn't participating in spiritual practice recently, but I've come back and she was still right there for me. I love her dearly, and I'm glad to have Hel in my life

So I get tired sometimes during the day and I fell asleep.i was listening to Hels playlist and it was like I was in this warm yet cold place(I have amphabtaia but I can still feel a vision instead of seeing it ) it was like we were walking together she was talking to me about how I left things with my grandmother and that it wasn't my fault for running. I definitely plan on doing something special for Hel. She welcomed me into her hall to see my grandma when I needed to. My grandmother died of dementia. Hel was very kind to me not scary at all. She's just goth. I'm a bit of a writer so it's like im narrating my dreams in a way.
Also one thing I'd like to add. Dead and rotting things might be good representation of who the offering goes to, but shouldn't be the only thing. Like Nebula told Thanos about Death in Infinity War when he sacrificed the entire universe to her. He was a fool because he didn't give her anything except more work'' I don't want to constantly remind lady Hel of her duties. (UPG)

Hel stepped into my life after my breakup and has been really helping me through, I had always had an interest in her and felt her presence the few first weeks leading up to my breakup. She didn’t fully make herself known until my relationship was fully over which I find kind of funny. The first deity I ever tried to establish a relationship with was freyja who I do still give a place at my altar but learned she’s only really meant to aid me maybe a few times a year, when Hel showed up I immediately felt that she wanted to be present in my daily life whereas I feel like I really have to do a lot for Freyja to interact with me, I still do weekly offerings to both.
I think that’s why Hel was reaching out and around was because I was doing a lot of shadow work. I have been working through trauma so offering that to her would make sense.
Ok seeing this video I am now totally confused looking at my alter. Like is it for Lilith or is it for Hel. I know in the past year and a half they have both been around. I am new to deities, cause well trauma. I know it’s them due to my own divination and trusted others also confirming. Could it be both. I’ve just been tossing things up there. Slowly putting down cloths etc. is that possible. To build an alter for two deities based solely on intuition. Think I’m gonna need to fix that.

Recently I've had some anxiety about death and what comes after, and I've made it clear I'm interested with working with a deity. In less than 24 hours I've found a dead rat and bird so I don't know if they could be signs. I do own a cat that does like to kill something every now and then but she's never killed in this short of a time frame before. I know it could all be a coincidence but something tells me it might not and I should defiantly keep note of it if this continues.
If you feel like it could be a sign then you should definitely keep an eye out for more! Especially because 2 dead animals in such a short period of time after you asked for a deity to work with doesn’t seem like a coincidence 😅 maybe you could also just ask Hel whether they were signs from her? ☺️

This video is very helpful! I have always been a very spiritual person but only recently started to dabble into witchcraft so everything is still very new. I do know however that hel has reached out to me and I would love to work with her. It is just so hard to find the real stories and not the versions of her influenced by Christianity. I do have a question though. After you have made an offering. Let's say a feather, stone but more specific something that can decay like food, drinks flowers. How long do you leave it for? Because I assume that at some point you have to trow it out . Also how do you get your answers from her? You said she told you what she likes but as she is my first deity I start to work with so I do wonder what the best method is to reach out to her. So far it has been mostly dreams for me but could a pendulum for example also be used in deity work?

Ive always been drawn towards goddess of the underworld. Ive discovered through a ritual that Persephone is my mother goddess but ive alway felt called to honor hel too. Ive gotten a tattoo for her because i truly love her work and myths. Im planning on making an altar for her and honoring her together with persephone. Anyone has any thoughts on this? My tattoo is not magical but ive thought of turning it into an image that i can alway access. Gonna try talking to her first.

I recently had a dream where I was rescuing a blackbird it died and its rotted wing got stuck in my hair as it fell off, flies buzzed around it. My dead dog came back she was showing us tricks she learned.
Afterwards I was in a overgrown ruin it was also a video game a friend gave me a purple orb they found in a tree. A sickly faerie looking woman needed it so I gave it to her and she turned into hel the group I was with and “video game” I believed I was in was telling me she was evil. So I got annoyed that they villainized her. The “game” gave me a dialogue option to roast her so I did she laughed. I thought she was some badly written imitation of her and I was restricted by video game mechanics. But she was chill and having fun we sat next to each other on a step and talked about infinity train. Although she wasn’t interested she was happy to understand how I relate to lake in the second season. She was like a fun rebellious big sister. I just wish I had more awareness and control during the dream.
Although I am new to wicca I picked hel to begin with as I was learning but she didn’t interact with me until now. Slowly I found the Morrigan I have seen her often in dreams. I have been trying to connect with Hephaestus but had no response. I occasionally give the gods speeches about being warriors in this cruel world instead of prayers as I feel they deserve something more personal they also seem to like that.
Out of curiosity, can u use the help of Hel in order to get rid of someone in your life that did you wrong?

Just wondering: Does Hel deal with both death and regeneration; or does she just receive and look after the spirits of the deceased? In a lot of pantheons, the deity associated with death also deals in rebirth. I still have a lot of reading up to do with the Norse pantheon... :)
I have worked with Hel for quite a long time now and my experience with her has been similar. She is very comforting and helpful. My offerings to her are usually dead/dying flowers, bones, skulls/skeletal images/items, and apples. Oh boy, does she ever love when I give her apples. If you ever want to see something rot in hyper-speed, just put it on your altar to Hel. XD One time I went to visit her shrine on consecrated grounds I had a big bag of apples in my backpack for snacking on. Before I entered the shrine, I inspected each apple and I pulled out all the apples that were starting to have that rubbery feeling so I could leave them as an offering. I stayed for awhile and when I left, I was quite hungry, so I went to pull out one of my remaining apples to eat, and every remaining apple now had huge spots of rot on them. We're talking 4-5 apples that were all good 20 minutes ago. Moral of the story, never bring anything into her shrine that you wouldn't leave as an offering, because she may choose to take it anyway. ( I obviously went back and left her the rest of the apples since that seemed to be what she wanted. ) I learned a valuable lesson that day. She is kind and a caretaker, truly, but she will always take what she perceives is hers.

I do not know who you are communicating with in the cosmos, but if I were you, I would ask her for what her true name is right now. Make sure you aren't in contact with Freya pretending to be Hel, okay, just to be sure for yourself. Hel's brain/body/soul is on earth, not in heaven. She does not accept worship, gifts, offerings, and giving her any is the wrong thing to do, stop it. She is not like the other gods, and they don't like her. But she will prevail.

The names of her items are not originally meant to be taken literally. What I have being "told" is that for example: her dish is called hunger and her knife is called famine because she feeds those who have died of starvation leaning into how many people have come to understand her: she is caretaker of the Dead. He is who heal those who have died of disease. Of course, as with everything else, this would not align with what Christians needed so they change that. Also: her relarionship with Baldr is not what it seems.
