Coding Injectors to Fix Rough Start - How to Adjust the Injector Compensation Rate on BMW

Calibrating injectors on a BMW sounds like a big deal and could get very, very expensive if taken to a dealer or even an independent shop. The reason you would want to adjust the injector compensation rate would be after replacing your injectors, replacing the ECU or DME or swapping the engine in my case. Each computer is coded for the injectors on that engine and must be recoded in order to work properly. Normally this job would require ISTA or an Autologic tool which costs in the thousands. Fortunately, there is a cheaper way to calibrate the injectors using the tool above for only $50-60 which is much cheaper than even an hour of shop time. The car I'm performing this service on is a BMW Z4.

Thank you soo much for posting! I’ve been chasing my 2008 335i’s “limp mode” / cyl #3 misfires by cleaning VANOS solenoids, replacing coil pack, spark plug, adaptation reset. Finally bought recon index 12 injector but wanted to try recode old index 8 first. 1st wired OBD2 couldn’t code at all, 2nd “made for BMW” Bluetooth OBD2 could do a lot more but NOT code injectors. Finally got this Autel and I installed the new-used injector, coded it w/MaxiAP200 and bam like you im GOLDEN! She purrs like a kitten! Gotta road test still so please, prayers everybody!?! SimpleCarGuy Thank you so much again. Autel MaxiAP200 is great. It turned out that all I need to do is to change the fuel injectors compensation value to the correct values. I compared the read-out values for cylinder 1-4 and the actual numbers on the fuel injectors. It turned out that whoever maintained the fuel injectors on the BMW 328i I bought, never changed the values. After changing the adjustment values to the correct values and saved them. The misfired error code was cleared! I bought a new injector and remove&install fuel injector for nothing. Thanks so much for recommending Autel MaxiAP200. I couldn’t do much with the AUTOPHIX 7810 diagnostic tool for BMW-Mercedes-Mini!
@@LuanNguyen-rm3pb I'm glad this worked for you just as it worked for me! Luckily I found out that injectors on these cars must be programmed before replacing them. Everyone I talked to wanted stupid money for just programming so for $50-60 and 10 minutes of time this is a no brainer! Hope she runs forever for you.

I have this tool and it is really powerful for what it is. But I wish or hope they include the SMG bleeding and learn in program in an update.
One of the best videos i have seen - and simple - right to it - question with the AP2000 app can you run the engine while doing diagnostics or even when programing the injectors. Also how do you tell what version of indexed injector you have - lets say i have an indexed injector of a value of 7 could you put a higher number index injector - sorry i am learning -

Why does it say hot function is not supported on m vehicle ? I have a bmw 2011 328xi and I need to reprogram the fuel injectors .
215 means they are original injectors, they've probably never been changed, so don't get rid of your original ones which are probably updated or replacement ones. the oem ones were prone to leaking, and giving misfires on startup or emitting tons of black smoke on deceleration. I wonder if the new values are based on the flow rates, I just did injectors on an N55 and they were all different.

Thanks. The video was clear and using the AP200 app to change the adjustment codes worked smoothly (after I finally got the 5GB of app/data installed).
Much cheaper vs. taking to a shop.
However, when I started the car a couple times, strangely I didn’t notice much difference. Same
time to start and rough idol. Injector code on one cylinder of my N55 was even changed from 238 to 175. With such a large difference I expected some kind of effect (either good or bad). (BTW, my X5 has no error codes.)
So far, I have driven the car 1.5 hours (30 miles) on the corrected codes.
I noticed the last screen of the AP200 adjustment code procedure tells you to delete the learned adjustments. I wonder if this really helps/ is required? I would have thought the engine would make adjustments on its own after some driving.
remember your pcm changes fuel trims to make sure it delivers right amount of fuel,long term and short term.if you been driving long like this with wrong injectors your pcm adjusted to compensate so when you changed injectors the pcm needs to correct for this and make adjustments so i would not be alarmed at a ruff start when doing this the first couple times

My 2007 N54 has 2 values per injector that INPA (for example) requires for an injector change.

Hi I own a Kia optima im having same issue just a really rough idle when its been sitting for a while I do remember buying new injectors and shop installing them but I don't know or asked if they reprogrammed them. Could this be reason why my cold start is much rougher and seems to stay there longer??

I managed to code my injectors as you explained in the tutorial , but the car runs even rougher than before , so i had to put the old values back in order to be able to drive it .
The codes were for example abcdef 123456 . I just typed the letters , without numbers , as the previous values were saved the same
Any ideea what can be ? Faulty injector ?

I just bought this tool for sprinter injectors coding , but it doesn't show injectors on service menu ? you can only see ( oil reset/ EPB/TEMPS/DEF/Immo Keys / and SAS That all of it on menu .. any idea !! ( I purchased Benz package though that will solve the problem but still missing and thats the latest update as well am using android by the way )
Unfortunately I don’t know if the tool does the same functions on other makes of cars, I’ve tested it on BMWs and Minis only.

Yes, it does. I haven’t tried on Toyota, but the option is there.

I don’t believe it does. Are you talking about turbo actuator or?
Great video. I just had an engine swap done (2012 X5 35i E70 (N55)) w/o injector adjustment.
I found the adjustment numbers written on my 6 injectors. If I put in these numbers into the DME (as per your video) and performance gets worse for some reason, can I switch the numbers back in the DME and engine goes back to operating as it does now?
Detail: May seem like a strange question, but the injectors in the engine now have 23,000 miles (since 2011), so I wonder if the adjustment numbers have the same meaning. Or if you change the injector numbers in the DME, it resets other calibration of the engine?
Car starts and runs reasonably ok now. But idle seems a little more shaky and some puttering sound compared to before the swap.
Yes, you can put old numbers back in without a problem. It does not change anything else when you adjust.

Not very fimiliar with diesel trucks, so I can't give you a definitive answer. I suggest checking with the company to be sure so you don't waste your money.

Yes, it is possible.
Is this a bi directional scsnner? Can i actuate my cooling fans?
I don’t think you can actuate cooking fans, but it has some features like that, programming keys, battery registration, injector adjustments, idle adjustment etc.
Doesn’t work for me , it just puts the old number back on the log . I’ve tried to change it like 13030277 times still doesn’t work
Will this scan tool work with the N73 Engine built in 2006?
If the engine has programmable injectors, it should work. I’ve tried on n14, n20 and n63u engines.
I noticed when you save the values (toward the end) it says "switch off terminal 15 and terminal R". Do you need to do anything then? It seems like a message about the ignition / electric system.
It just means turn off the ignition and pull the key out.
I keep getting this & then also it shows new values could not be saved as old values are permantly saved the old value numbers still saved

@@340ANTONIO340 I searched EVERYWHER to find this. The answer is to hit the Start/Stop button once for Terminal 15 and the double lock via the key fob remote to switch off Terminal R.

Are you saving the values to the car? At 8:00 I save the newly entered numbers to the DME.

So, why do dealerships and shops charge hundreds to code injecrors? It seems like it took less than half an hour to do.
They are using much more expensive tools, so I guess that would be the justification for charging more.
They wanted to charge me 600 for my low pressure condenser line and another 800 for refrigerate and labor! I found brand new line made by bmw on ebay for 120 and replaced it myself. It was a pain tho I bought the foxwell elite at pelican parts for 225 because I bought new coils and I replaced the water pump and thermostat. I decided to replace the oil filter housing gasket before I filled it up with new coolant. I hade to buy gasket for the intake and throttle body because they have to be removed. I'll say one thing, after working on these cars domestic Vehicles will be a breeze

Also just replaced an engine from a 2013 to a 2017, the new ones were all matched at 217... Seems very curious. Guess someone at bmw has a lot of time to match injectors
I've seen that as well! Sometimes they just have a perfect set, I guess.

Your injectors show only one value but mine on the N43 engine (E91, 2010 318i) have two values... how does it work in that case?
Yes, it will work. You’ll have to program whatever value is on the injectors in the correct sequence. The values could be different on all 4-6 cylinders.
@@SimpleCarGuy sorry, what I meant is that there are two values written on each injector and both are needed to code them properly. The first value corresponds to the energy in mJ and the second one to flow. In my case: 574 and 212 for injector 1...
So for my injectors Autel AP200 app would need to prompt me for the two values for each injector. The BMW E90 engine's eg. N54 and N43 must use different injectors as your engine in the Z4 apparently only gives you one value!?

That makes sense. As far as I’m aware, you only program the second value in. I haven’t seen any scanners programming more than value in. In your case you’d just program the 214 value for the injector.

I haven’t used the M version, so I don’t know if it’s any different. What options do you have when you go to the service options? Did you activate your free license for BMW? Do injectors have to be programmed on 116i and what engine is it?

The only service options I have are oil reset, Sas, dpf, bms, throttle. And yes I activated my license for bmw and installed and updated everything :( it’s a 1.6 l 2007 n43 Bmw
@@waviestbeatz2205 Honestly, that's really weird. I would contact their support to see why it's not showing up for you. I checked and your n43 engine does require the adjustment. I've tried on 3 different BMW engines and the option showed up. All cars were 2011 and newer, not sure if that makes a difference.

Sir can u modify fuel injectors for low consumption of petrol..like modification of fuel injectors spray timing etc?
Not using this tool, this allows you calibrate it for perfect fuel to air ration. Reducing fuel will just make the car run lean and cause issues.

Yeah my 2013 n63 is having issues with a stuck open injector and I changed the fuel injector that was stuck open and being how I didn't program it the same code keeps popping up will be buying this just to try it.

Some Cars are not compatible with Fuel injector
Android users: Be aware that Autel has pulled the MaxiAP200 software *off* Google Play as of 8/30/2019. I found the APK from a third party and it suffers from buggy Bluetooth connectivity and inability to register the device (tried on three Android devices). (The MaxiAP tool in Google Play now is *not* the right version). The QR Code link in the instructions no longer works. The Apple version works much better, but I have had trouble with certain functions. Beware!
I haven’t had any issues in the iPhone, what didn’t work for you? I’m gonna keep an eye on the android version for my Android bros. Any idea why they pulled it?
@simplecarguy No idea why they pulled it, but if my experience with the version I did find was representative, it was just unusable. My problem on the Apple version (on my son's iPad) is with a loss of comm during IMMO smart code learning sessions. Can't say for sure that's an app issue; I got much farther on the Apple version than the Android. They can't keep that software out forever and keep selling it as an Android-compatible device.... Really frustrating. I put in a support request on their live chat line and it was never answered.
@@thewiseguysorlando8557 No, it isn't. I have downloaded the actual Ap200 software from Autel directly per their direction. The AP200 app is back in the play store as of 9/22/19.

Yes, that's correct. It actually flashed the type of injectors on his phone. I know 215's are EU6 because those are the types I have on my 2016 F10. I am in the process of changing them now and my Foxwell scanner confirmed the type.

What do you mean, I adjusted the injector compensation on the car and fixed my rough idle. This product wasn't sent to me for free or anything, I bought it myself and paid full price.

Number one replace your battery. That car is turning over way too slow. I’m probably not telling you anything you don’t know. You have to start with good voltage in German cars or the engines run like garbage and throw random codes.
