Hi Steven, thanks for this video, I was not certain to buy it, but now I did and the little thing works like a charm. F10, 535d, 2016. Recognized all the modules, did some live data on the left footwell flap position, showed perfectly that it did open with the exact percentages required, so dealer eat your heart out by telling me it needs a new one.

Just to update, I purchased the little Ap200..replaced my dpf and have been using the AP200 on live monitoring while driving...I can see when the soot is building up given the pressure feedback read, I can see when regen gets activated and can also activate by driving above 2500rpm..
I'm yet to clean my original dpf unit although I've got all the ingredients..been busy with work as opposed to being lockdown🙂

Hi, thanks for watching - and I'm glad it has helped you find the issue with your BMW! There could be an EGR cleaning video in future for sure - oven cleaner works pretty well, and the ultrasonic cleaner works pretty well too - but there is always gunk that needs scrubbing off with various brushes...
@@StevenBTuner Would you completely remove the EGR valve? What about the hoses? Clips ? do they have to be replaced?
Yes, take it off the car so you can soak it, scrub it, rinse it...and then repeat, and repeat again. If they are in good condition then the hoses and clamps should be re-useable.

This adapter works great with the latest generation Android flagship phones (needs a fast processor ) & latest software. Saved me HUGE 3 times now, on my BMW. Reprogrammed my sunroof, clear catalytic codes, signaled faulty injector 6. Not to mention registered my new battery.

Hi, I should mention that if it is being used on a different car make, then the results and features can be quite different. Catch cans are a great idea, and should help reduce the oily soot that blocks up the intake system.

This is a great tool. I would also highly recommend getting the Bimmergeeks Protool. It's a bad little scanner. I would definitely be buying this one though for other euro manufacturers.

I bought c110 for around £30, and it works perfect 👌. But I think it's gonna work only with E series, for the F series need a different one. I was using mine on E46, E38, E39, E53 and E60, read all the faults, made my life a lot easier, when fixing my cars. Anything that works, and saves yours money, it's worth it

Hi, thanks for watching! Autel have split the AP200 into three slightly different models now, but it is very difficult to tell which (if any of them) is better than the original for diagnosing a BMW.

Hi, not sure why they have fragmented their own device like that. It still seems like the original is still the best for having a wide range of good features at a low cost - so is still my recommendation.

A 15quid Generic Ebay Bluetooth OBDII module and 5quid (or so) Torque app works fine with my F30 BMW!
Plus does live gauges and track recording telemetry.
Although it does only connect to engine ECU.
Thanks for watching! The Torque app does a lot of good things for sure, but unfortunately they haven't cracked all of the BMW codes and sensors yet - so it misses too much to be used for diagnostics.

Hi, thanks for watching! Exactly what you will see will depend on the year of the car, but you will certainly see temperature/s, pressure/s and whether regeneration is enabled, whether it is requested, and whether it is in progress.

Thanks for watching, and thanks for asking! Yes, the issue was the hose that connects the DPF to the externally mounted pressure sensor - I forgot to put a new cable tie on it, so it slipped off. It turned out to be a very good time to check the engine codes!
Hi. nice review. Could you clarify one point, if you pay for a manufacturer do you have to pay again after 12 months to continue use, or only have to pay again to receive updates. Also, does one manufacturer cover different models or is it locked to one VIN Thanks in advance Karl
Hi, thanks for watching! As it is app based, they can change the rules at any time! But at the moment you get one manufacturer free when you buy the unit, and this doesn't expire, and it includes all models. If you pay for an additional manufacturer then it expires after 12 months. So this really is aimed at the home user.
OBDeleven is perfect for VAG.
Bimmergeeks Protool is perfect for BMW.
Autel MaxiAP AP200 is perfect for everything else.
All of these are highly recommend. Hope this helps guys.
Thanks for the advice. However, after checking Bimmergeeks' web, at the moment it doesn’t support E3x, E46, E53 or Fxx, Gxx and Ixx. So basically it's for the "Bangle" era cars. For my needs and after researching for quite a few hours I think the AP200 is the winner.
There's also the much praised OBDLink MX+ but is still lacking OEM capabilities for many brands including BMW.

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! I haven't seen anything to indicate that it is region-limited in any way, but as it relies on a companion phone app, they can make changes to the way it works at any time - and they have, even since I have reviewed it. Since my video they have introduced some companion apps. One of these is called 'Diag-BMW', and the normal app wouldn't do anything with my BMW until I downloaded this extra add-on. After the download everything was back to normal again, but it did mean an interruption while I moved back into wi-fi range. My workshop is in a bad position for cellphone coverage, and I haven't setup wi-fi in there, so this means that I have to remember to log on to the app before I go out the workshop, otherwise it won't function. This kind of issue may effect you too, depending on where you live. I have tested this device on BMW, but the one time I tried it on a different brand it wanted another companion app, which I downloaded - and then it complained that the 2 apps had mis-matched versions! So, if you are going to diagnose another brand, it might be a good idea to hear from someone who has the relevant experience.

Hi Steven - Is this device capable of initiating a "forced regen"? If not can you recommend a device that can initiate a forced regen? My vehicle is a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Mercedes 3.0L CRD engine.
Hi, it has that function, but these original AP200 units are a bit hard to find now.
Does it help you do a step-by-step diagnostic the same way ISTA does?
No.
To get as far as you got at the 5min mark took me 4 hours. Once I was finally in I can go forward through the menu items, but if I try to go back it says VCI not connected. So I have to reconnect, reload my car, then reload the diagnostic file for it which takes about 5 minutes. Often when in the VCI connect screen, and it connects that's all it does, I'm stuck on that screen and cannot go anywhere. I have to close the app and yet again start from scratch.
At least your vid showed me how it is apparently supposed to work, so thanks for that.
That doesn't sound very encouraging. This unit seems to behave differently depending on the brand of car, so it is difficult to recommend it as an all-purpose code reader.
Bit late with my update. I asked if you know if the device would program keys on honda. Just to let you know that it will and you can reprogram a used key fob. That alone paid for device.

Hi, that will depend entirely on the model of the car - some brands make that information more readily available than others. BMW are pretty good in that regard, but people with some other brands have said that the information is not all there.
I am using free version of Carista app and a cheap bluetooth ELM327 for $10 to monitor my dpf.
Someone recommended Autel AP200 for my Renault MeganeIV, saying it will do all the functions of the OG Renault software, Can Clip/Renolink. What do you think?

Hi, I haven't used it on exactly that car / system, but most functions worked on an Opel which has pretty much the same engine. The forced DPF regeneration function didn't work for me, but that wasn't necessarily the fault of the AP200 as the car had quite a few issues.

Hi, thanks for watching! For the car brand that you choose when you first install the app, you will get all access to all of the modules (engine, transmission etc), and it is the same for any additional car brand that you buy each year. If you don't purchase a specific car brand then you will only get very basic SAE codes that are not very useful for any car made after the year 2000.

Hi, you could install the BMW diagnostic suite onto a laptop to do that, or alternatively a higher end scanner could be used.
Can someone please help...On my device its showing ABS/VSA problem so I wanted to check which wheel sensor is bad by checking the speeds of each wheel in live data but unable to do so as all are showing red i.e 0 m.p.h
Hi Stephen I have a p1639 code come up on my dash all I did was move and take of the airfilter and removed the MAF sensor to get to the seized top water hose ..after putting it all back together I noticed the p1639 code came up on diagnostic tool and engine light came on
Some cars don't like having sensors unplugged while the battery is connected. You could try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes as well as crossing those fingers!
eset scanner works for citroen c elysee 2018 or peugeot? can a forced regeneration of dpf be done?
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! It is possible to buy a download for a Citroen or a Peugeot - but I haven't tested them. Forcing a DPF regeneration is one of the options available, but it won't work if you haven't fixed the problem that is causing the regeneration to stop in the first place.
Did you see in the settings by any chance if it can re learn a dpf sensor after fitting a new one?
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting. The only service function listed for the DPF at the moment is a forced regeneration (I say 'at the moment' because they keep changing things - so it could be completely different next week).

Hi, thanks for watching! I haven't tested those units. Once I found a (relatively) inexpensive unit that provided the BMW codes I didn't really keep searching. For a different car make there might be a better alternative.

Can you force a dpf regeneration with this tool ? And turn off the dpf light
Hi, yes you can force a regen and reset the DPF adaptations. However, if there is an engine issue causing the DPF to be clogged/de-activated then the light won't stay off.

Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! The Easydiag x431 does bi-directional actuator testing by the look of it, so it is a much more professional tool. But it is also more than 4x as expensive, so it is not really a direct competitor.

Hi, thanks for watching! I don't have a Honda Civic, but I hope you'll find out the answer - these scanners work slightly differently on every car make, so there is no guarantee at all that the functions that work on a BMW will work on a Honda...

Hi, that's terrible! If it is a BMW then it should have almost the same functions as per the video (they are updating all the time, but usually extra things are added rather than taken away). If it is a different brand of car then the functions can vary quite a bit, depending on how much has been reverse-engineered for that particular make.
I see, cause I've got a Mercedes and thought since it was a popular car, they would have all the functions for it. I only needed to delete headlight codes. I'm disappointed. Cheers anyway
Does it connect to the internet every time you use the scanner via Bluetooth?
Hi, thanks for watching! It doesn't connect every time - it might be every week or something to authenticate your login details. It is something that I have to remember though as my car is parked in a place that doesn't have any wi-fi, and also has almost non-existent cellular access, so if I forget then I have to go back home again and start up the app.

@@juniorsepping9055 Hi, I am not going to tell you that this is the absolute best scanner for your BMW, but it is the cheapest I have found that actually works, and has some good features. To access everything in your BMW you would need to have a laptop with the full BMW dealer diagnostics software (INPA, DIS, SSS, NCS EXPERT etc) - but even that is not perfect as it is difficult to use, resource hungry, full of bugs, and has a lot of German language in it. Good luck in getting your BMW back to full health!

Hi, unfortunately if you want more than just the valvetronic error messages then this unit will not be right for you. You will need some pretty specialized equipment.

Hi, thanks for watching! The brake pad sensors are a throw-away item as they work by physically wearing away as the brake pad wears down. So there is no way to reset them - they have to be replaced with new. The AP200 works really well with most BMW issues though, and is still my favorite low cost diagnostic unit.
I replaced both pads and sensor but for some reason my front brake cant resat. But my rear brake reseted OK without problem
@@hwlee6324 Hi, I have heard of people having trouble depending on the brand. I personally have used BMW and Bosch brake sensors with no trouble - but for my personal cars I don't put them in position, I cable tie them up out of the way so that they never wear out.

Hi, this unit isn't bi-directional - so you can't do actuator tests etc.
Can anyone confirm if this can reset the steering wheel ELV counter on BMWs ?
Hi, thanks for watching. You will need BMW's own ISTA+ software for this, or a high end diagnostic unit to do the ELV counter.

Compared to diagnostics units in the $300+ category (or the BMW diagnostics suite), the Autel AP200 is quite limited - so it doesn't do all of the tests that a mechanic would want by any means. It is the bargain-priced error-reading tool with a few good functions for people who need to program a new key, put in a new battery or replace their own brake pads.
Does it work the force regenerate?
Hi, the function is there to reset the DPF adaptations when you install a new filter, and also to force a regeneration - although the function won't work if there is a sensor malfunctioning for example, or something else badly wrong with the car.

Hi, I haven't tried it on a Volvo, so I don't know if all of the features are supported.

Debido a que se actualiza todo el tiempo, probablemente admitirá 2018 - 2020 muy pronto. Tenga en cuenta que solo faltarán las funciones nuevas: el 99.9% de las funciones serán las mismas para un automóvil 2017 y 2018.

Hi, thanks for watching! They are still available in some places, but they have been replaced by models with less features and a higher price. If you can find one then they are well worth grabbing - as you will need to spend 4 or 5 times as much to get similar features on other units.
on AE you can get Autel AP200M shipped from Germany for ~60$.

@@vuli1647 I'm not too surprised that they discontinued it, as it is comparable in features to units costing 5 times as much. The C/H/M variants are still good, but you have to look at the features closely to make sure you get the feature subset that suits you best.

Hi, if you have to make a choice then you will need to choose Mini. I think it is a bit rude if they have separated them out as two different brands...
Do you need to rebuy the license after a year to use the software, or can you use the current software even if the license is expired?
Hi, the AP200 comes with one car brand included in the price. If you want to add an additional brand then there is a relatively small one off fee to pay. They don't expire, as far as I know.

It is just you cant get the updates if the license is expired except the free software? Because i see in the app if you want to buy an brand, it says: Buy now(one year)
Hi, I looked over the original packaging and it said that one manufacturer is included in the price, and additional manufacturers are available to purchase in-app. But after checking the app, you are 100% right, the additional manufacturer I have paid for is due to expire this year! Not impressed with that at all!
Steven B. Tuner thank you for your answer, thats what i need to known about the app before i purchase the autel ap200, its way cheaper to buy an mk808 than the ap200. The price of an mk808 is about € 420 and the yearly license is about 130 euro all brands included, well thats about 6 brands on your ap200. I will prefer the Xtool anyscann a30 after your answer, you pay 140 euro only for the device and then you got all brands free for lifetime. Only the ap200 got more functions but not neccesary, only the positive thing about is, its more cheaper than the carly device 😅. Try the Xtool Anyscan a30, is almost the same. You can download it on your apple or android phone or tablet. I got one and i am happy about it.

Do you have to pay every year in order for this OBD reader to work ? If you dont pay does that still work ? Do you need to have internet to used it ? If you don't updates does that still work without updates ? Out from the box can you used it without wifi or internet ? Can this scan for Fuel Pressure ? And can this do compression test ? Is this a Complete diagnostic Scan tools ?does it Scan from 1996 cars going up ? How about Toyota Camry 2001 2.2 Liter 4 Cyl or Buick Park Ave 2003 3.8 Liter does it Scan these cars ? Does this scan for battery ignition parameters ?
Hi, you get one car make locked in, and any additional brands have to be paid every year. Internet access on your phone is required for weekly account confirmations and updates, but isn't required when you are using it. For BMW cars it does everything you have mentioned except for the starter motor load based compression test. Others cars are usually restricted a bit more depending on the year / model. It is not bi-directional, so for the most advanced diagnostics features you will need a $500+ unit.

Let me guess? The coding was done by some offshore sweatshops. Each one was doing their own piece, and that is why you see multiple trips to the car to read it, over and over. LOL.
I need to do an update to this video as using this unit on newer BMW cars is a lot more pleasant as OBD2 port speed is so much quicker.
battery voltage ... "14.78mV" millivolts?? geezzz I hope the rest of the data units are better checked than that .. makes me lose confidence in a product like this .. no engineer's review? so obvious .. :-(
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! There are a few things like that, but most are the same as you will see in the BMW diagnostic suite, which is where they, umm, borrowed the information from.

I'm trying to determine if this unit is really a better deal than say something like the ML629 which may or may not go as deep into the on-board monitor(s) data. It's very difficult to get an answer on this based on the available info out there (and even the user manuals). The ML629 has some graphing and playback features that I don't see on this unit but I'm more interested in just seeing the deeper data (with error ranges) and knowing the bidirectional capabilities and component tests.
Hi, I'd say that the AP200 is a better deal than the ML629, but neither have bidirectional capabilities / component tests like the DS808 or similar units.

Dpf regeneration, i can even select engine code but when i select dpf option it says not supported, too bad....i was having an idea to manually start regeneration when close to it(not to wait on exact kilometers) but unfortunately not working
@@accer555 Hi, that function is very much dependent on whether the manufacturer itelf supports it. As far as I can tell, BMW supports all of the Autel advertised functions - but that is not the case for every car make.
@@stevendusk6108 Hi, well, via vcds i have two options, stationary regeneration and while driving(this one i prefer and it has been tested, works ok), so it is supported by my vehicle. I've checked on autel's web site if dpf hot function is supported by my vehicle, model, year and what not and it states that it is. Cheers

A lot of devices like to 'help' by increasing the volume of the quiet bits by raising their volume, so my quiet background music ends up louder than I'd like. A lot of folk like a bit of music going in the background, but my new settings should make it less intrusive.

it didn't work in sprinter injector coding .. its really waste of money .. you will only get normal scan functions like any other obd scanner in market .. strange .. that the app will advice to download benz.. vehicle even though you have selected benz sprinter as that the one you after .. so the tool will cheat you to buy extra packages which benz so you can pay extra 20£ even though it listed on app as 20 dollar but you will get charged that 20 in pound and less what .. after all of that crap you will get nothing .. may be it does only work for BMW but in Mercedes benz sprinter van injectors coding it does fail am afraid .
Hi, it works very well for BMW but I haven't had good experiences with any other cars so far. It gave me all sorts of trouble when I tried to download for Opel/Vauxhall vehicles, so I am in no hurry to purchase any more add-ons. I will put a warning on future videos about this to help others like yourself, who are not using it on a BMW.
