1:06:06 😂😂😂 The rumble after 🤣 ... You can't make the sound effects better, given the subject 😏... Excellent interview. I listened to Seth Godín, many years ago... Now, something about him, when I saw the interview didn't click with me, years later I realized he views and practices marketing, as I'd hoped it was right from the start. Thank you for making this interview publicly available. Kudos to you both and Happy Holidays!
To me "we are family" means we trust each other but if you break, you ship out. There are no second chances here. No acquaintance. No friends here. Here we first trust you unconditionally but if you abuse it, you either ship yourself out or we ship you out.
Being authentic in part is contextual, as with almost any behavior. As an example, at a funeral people cry, speak in a soft voice, are generally quite; they are being both respectful and authentic. The same group at a restaurant maybe loud, cracking jokes, care-free, and enjoying a healthy authentic debate over lunch.. yet the same group in corporate conference room meeting with their leaders to discuss a tense business issue will behavior seriously and argue their individual points of views assertively and respectfully. Authenticity is about you being you while giving due regard to the context that you present yourself in... that does not mean to hold back your thoughts and heartfelt views, instead its about being respectful and aware of the people around you as you express yourself authentically. And, if you feel that blowing up at someone in a meeting constitutes authenticity, then you ought to also be ready to accept the consequences that will follow that type of behavior. Why is authenticity important - because people are often afraid of being open, vulnerable, showing the world who they truly are... they fear being judged or coming across as weak... therefore are not able to offer up their very best work to life and society, to business... and that holds them back from being all they could have been and contributed. Why else is authenticity important? ... because people can sniff out inauthentic behavior like sniffing out a dead rat... and no one likes the smell of dead rat in their office, at a party, or other social or business event.
Thanks for sharing Robin, appreciate you taking the time to write this up and you make some great points! I think Seth was trying to say that we keep talking about being authentic but in the business context we aren't really that serious about it, it's more a "be authentic as long as it fits within our expectations" type of authenticity, which isn't that authentic!
This was ... fantastic. Especially for someone like me who has spent upwards of 18 years bouncing around corporate and have since taught myself photography and looking to raise my illustration skills from its dormancy to create IP. Making ruckus... I WANT TO DO JUST THAT ✨✨✨

Wow... 7 minutes before we heard from Seth. That wasn't fun...
That's not Seth, that's a bot. How dare you impersonate one of the top 10 leadership coaches in the world with a 7.99 USD software.
Huh?
