Also isopropyl alcohol, and wick lighter fluid are good for removing sticky residue plus they evaporate so you don't have to clean up residue from them.
Hey MD! you should totally consider doing live streaming or twitch (not sure if you do). I love would to watch you build aquariums and just have a chat with you while your live
Love the idea, that ended up being super cute. I would've loved to have seen you put a piece of fine-mesh in front of the drain so you could just pull the tap for a water change, but I can't wait to see how this comes along!
I have 3 of these and placed a UGF in the bottom. Easy water change cleans detritus out of the UGF.😁 Cutting plastic craft canvas to size, and elevate the craft canvas above the spigot is the most complicated part
Really cool build! I did a similar one a few years ago and noticed that if you stuff a piece of filter sponge into the inner part of the tap, you can use it for easy water changes without loosing any substrate.
Love the look of this. But for future reference you can use a hairdryer to pull the sticker off easier. It heats the glue and makes it easier to peel off and get rid of the residue.
Duuuude .... This is exactly what I have in my house. only difference is I have no light and not many plants . You taught me a lot MD , I'm Soo thankful for that
@@kmacc974 so far it's good . In my opinion more number of plants is better coz due to the low plant numbers if I feed the fish any more than the minimum there are hints of algae otherwise you'll have compromise on the stocking.
@Minz it actually is a problem . I don't use one and it has effect on the plant growth . I think that the lack of flow has reduced the speed of growth , the only thing that causes movement are just 4 guppies. I think it might be due to reduced availability of co2
The extra sticky stuff, use eucalyptus oil on it. It’s ok to use on Acrylic. Put some on a cotton wool ball and wipe. The residue will come off. I absolutely adore this tank ❤️
MD! Wifey showed me the other day, simple baking soda will take off sticky sticker bits strait away. It’s amazin. Just need a touch of water to activate it. BOOM 👊
I made a similar setup, but with a difference. I took some 1/4 inch plastic tubing and made many perforations along its entire length, and then stuck one end into the inside opening of the drink container valve, and ran a length of it around the bottom of the drink dispenser. I covered the tubing with nylon screen, and then a layer of course aquarium gravel. I put aquarium soil on top of the gravel, and then capped it with more gravel. After heavily planting the drink container, and letting it stabilize for a few weeks, I added a Betta fish. The tubing setup allowed me to do water changes by just opening the spigot and draining out however much water I wanted to remove and replace with fresh. This setup was sort of like an under gravel filter, and made water changes for the Betta much easier.
if you wanted to you could use the bottom as a filter area. also i would get something to plug the spout like a cork or rubber stopper just in case someone or some how the tap is turned on or starts to leak that you dont come in to an empty tank. love this though
I love it! I would like to suggest you shove bee’s wax inside the spout incase the valve degrades over time. Especially now that sand has run through it. Regardless, I cannot wait for the update!!!!!
Loved this one. It felt like a throw back to when you first started. More manageable to replicate here at home where we can't dedicate so many resources to the hobby. Thank you!
This was still beautiful, but I think this was a case of your experience with big tanks working against you. It's a cylindrical tank but you still kept to the idea of a back area and you covered the faucet which should also have been a point of interest in the design.
Nice content....I just started aquascaping last 2 month after watching your videos... thanks for all the tip you give in your video....I hope you'll continue doing great
I absolutely love this set up and looks so natural. I would personally put glass beads in the base with a small colour changing led but that’s just me. I have a fascination with lights lol. Once again another epic video.
That makes a gorgeous tank. I actually wouldn't put it on the table as a centerpiece, because no one would be able to see around it, but it sure would be lovely on a coffee table, end table or hall table.
You could also plug the spout up with silicone since it dosent seem like it will be used for water changes, also if you have this at your table you wouldnt want a curious george opening it.
I have a little one like this with shrimp and a nerite and they are doing great the shrimp have had some babies. Also the alcohol in hand sanitizer will take off the sticky stuff from the sticker
Looks amazing! One tip if I was going to make this is cover the tap inlet with some panty hose or filter floss so the sand doesn't get sucked out during the water changes.
Cool video! While Im skeptical about no tech in such a small volume Im honestly interested in how this will evolve over one or two months. Im sure a couple of rice fish could live in there if parameters arent go be way off!
A jarrarium! I have one as well, tho somewhat bigger (40 cm high, 12.5L/3.3gal) and low tech (a simple led light and an airstone for some light water movement and surface breaking). It's a joy to have on my desk, and I've got a new appreciation for neocaridina shrimp and snails.
My American self chuckled when you said something completely nothing out of the ordinary: "I've decided to put the tap to the side, I think it looks a little bit BETTA." 🐟 4:38
I also thought of this setup as well when i bumped into that water thingy a week ago & at the same time, i was worried that i might not be able to make it work. but low and behold, you actually made a video of it!!! what a coincidental thought!!! thank you sooo much, Dear and now, i can finally make one for my baby shrimplets. YESHUA BLESS you, your lovely family and to all my fellow subscribers... Much love =)
Hi MD! I swear by using cleaners like Goo Gone on leftover adhesive. It doesn’t smell bad at all, it’s cheap, carried everywhere, and it works like a charm. *I don’t know if it’s available where you live, but there must be similar items I’m sure.* I clean off lots of gunk with it often. Love your creative beautiful tanks! I may try this one day for some shrimp and snails too. 😊 Keep up the wonderful vids!
Woooooo w love this. Yeh there's a stuff you can get that removes label sticky lol. I wonder - the opening to the tap - maybe a fine foam behind the hole so you can use it as water change tap as you suggested? my goodness you are artistic. This , like all your tanks, are stunning
This is so cool. =) Late to the party, but I think the little extra bottom dish is meant to be for filling with ice to keep your drinks cool (& to elevate the spigot/tap up so that you can fit a cup underneath it).
omg that is exACTLY what I want to do!! animals and everything. yes, sir!! Hope to see down the road how it survives. Please give an update later on! Love, love it!!
Not to complain too much because I love seeing unique nano setups like this, I kinda think that giant snail ruins the scale a little bit, but my god what a beast that thing is.
That drink dispenser would be great for breeding brine shrimps and/or any live feeders for your fish. And makes it easy to dispense the food through the nozzle to feed your pets and makes it easy to clean the container too.
For the sticker you can use alcohol or orange juice (citrus breaks down adhesives). But this concept is awesome! Loving all the shrimp scapes you’ve been doing lately :)
I have a 5-gallon drink dispenser tank, I would recommend that you put a course sponge on the spigot with some gravel or porous rocks lining the bottom and capping it off. It will prevent the valve from being clogged over time. Great work on the build!
This is a great idea, I am in the middle of moving and was thinking of combining two tanks, but I think I may just down size my shrimp tank to one of these. Probably will still have to move most of the shrimp to my other aquascape tank. Thanks for the idea.
for the sticker, try using some rubbing alcohol- let it hit for a while on the sticker area and then just use a toothbrush or something to scrub it a bit. That should take care of it.
It's beautiful! Definitely a nice idea to try in the future. Please keep us posted on how things go in the future! Also, could this be seen as an ecosystem tank, like (some of?) your other tanks? Or would you have to adjust a few things for that? If the latter, what would you adjust?
This is certainly a decent candidate for an "ecosphere" but at this stage it isn't mature enough to be considered a closed system. Water changes and maintenance will need doing for a while.
Some seasoned botanicals from an existing tank would provide a food and micro jump start. Hard scape might leach enough calcium, but a small piece of coral might be a good idea. Checking for leakage was a wise move, because it was open, sand might still be in the spout and could cause issues.
Addressing the sticker remains problem: first things first, great video! I really love the setup! :-) I've experienced an interesting phenomenon with those hard to clean sticker glues. They're often the same as clear packing tape or gaffer tape adhesives. So you should be able to remove any remaining glue by just taking a piece of tape, wrapping it around index- and ringfinger with the sticky side facing out and "tap" it away. Press it on and rip it away and it should come off super clean.
Hey MD! Not sure if you will see this. But a good trick for those God awful stickers is to apply vegetable oil to the adhesive residue. So if you have a bit of canola or olive oil around, rub a good amount on the residue and then just lightly scrub with a towel, paper towel, or stiff bristle brush. Then just a quick rinse in warm water to get rid of the oil and you're all set. I frequently reuse spice containers to hold my own spice mixes for cooking, and they use that same type of adhesive on the labels. I used to buy a specialty cleaner for it (which I now realize was probably just citrus oil) but found that canola oil works just as well.
LOL when you started filling it and water ran straight out the tap I couldnt help laughing and thinking MD you left the tap open! 😂😂 At first I was a little skeptical about the idea for this, but its come together really nice, I love it! cant wait to see how it matures
Any cooking oil, like Vegtable oil when rubbed onto sticker goo, then washed off with warm water and a little sponge scruby will have that sticker goo gone cleanly in seconds 😀
Would love to have something like this instead of a 'big' aquarium, but have several questions: 1) Doesn't the superglue release toxins into the water? 2) Could there have been a build to this where you could have possibly used the spout to empty water for a water change? Like a wider container with a sort of 'dam' on the side of the spout? 3) After the tank is established, would it be disastrous to introduce a couple of tiny fish? Love your videos! I am amazed at your ideas!
I literally just watched this video 2 hours ago and then made my own version of this 😁🤣 I already had a glass drinks dispenser laying around so put it to some better use!
You make it look so easy to setup a tank. All of your tanks look gorgeous. As I understand “kitchen roll’ is BE. And “paper towels” is AmE and as I understand also used in places like AU, probably CA and NZ too
Be careful to keep the top of the Frogbit dry when you're doing water changes or maintenance. It will turn yellow and start rotting if it gets too wet. (Which was a huge pain for me, and the lid I had on my betta tank to try and give her nice comfy temps during the cool winter).
Love it 👌, an idea for the bottom stand thing, you could put a set of those micro led fairy lights in there. You know the small ones on the copper wire with a little battery pack. Just an idea might look different and super cheap

Checking for leakage was a wise move, because it was open, sand might still be in the spout and could cause issues.
Pain of having a hobby. Going at a normal store or place and seeing something like.. Oooh I could totally make a tank out of you!
I love all of your fish tanks wish I can have you make me one cuz how good they look love watching your videos
Addressing the sticker remains problem: first things first, great video! I really love the setup! :-)
I've experienced an interesting phenomenon with those hard to clean sticker glues. They're often the same as clear packing tape or gaffer tape adhesives. So you should be able to remove any remaining glue by just taking a piece of tape, wrapping it around index- and ringfinger with the sticky side facing out and "tap" it away. Press it on and rip it away and it should come off super clean.
Nail polish remover.
So simple. But beautiful
LOL when you started filling it and water ran straight out the tap I couldnt help laughing and thinking MD you left the tap open! 😂😂 At first I was a little skeptical about the idea for this, but its come together really nice, I love it! cant wait to see how it matures
MD all of your tanks so beautiful perfect
This is a great idea.....Love this. 🐠 🐟🐡🪸🦑🐚
Any cooking oil, like Vegtable oil when rubbed onto sticker goo, then washed off with warm water and a little sponge scruby will have that sticker goo gone cleanly in seconds 😀
Incredible so simple but cheerful real inspirational piece of work
Would love to have something like this instead of a 'big' aquarium, but have several questions: 1) Doesn't the superglue release toxins into the water? 2) Could there have been a build to this where you could have possibly used the spout to empty water for a water change? Like a wider container with a sort of 'dam' on the side of the spout? 3) After the tank is established, would it be disastrous to introduce a couple of tiny fish? Love your videos! I am amazed at your ideas!
I literally just watched this video 2 hours ago and then made my own version of this 😁🤣 I already had a glass drinks dispenser laying around so put it to some better use!
Hi MD you are very creative and resourceful. Am going to copy your drinking jug to make an aquarium lol 😂
Keep the creative mindset going
You make it look so easy to setup a tank. All of your tanks look gorgeous. As I understand “kitchen roll’ is BE. And “paper towels” is AmE and as I understand also used in places like AU, probably CA and NZ too
We have the equivalent of kitchen roll in Dutch: keukenrol.
@@bigben8369 actually when I think of it. In Danish kitchen roll is translated to “køkkenrulle” or “køkkenruller” in plural
Be careful to keep the top of the Frogbit dry when you're doing water changes or maintenance. It will turn yellow and start rotting if it gets too wet. (Which was a huge pain for me, and the lid I had on my betta tank to try and give her nice comfy temps during the cool winter).
'Solve it'is great for getting rid of sticky stuff ...Good for taking old silicone sealant off too 👍
at about 12:30 you sound like fish bob ross. Happy little plants.
Love this little shrimp setup. I have a beginner question: how often do you feed the shrimp in this setup?
I am also curious about this.
I haven't even watched the video yet, but I already love it!!
So simple yet such an impact, I just have to build one of these. Cracked me up when you left the tap on🤣 so easily done😊.
Stunning little set up. You need sticky stuff remover for them stickers MD, Rillington stuff.
Love it 👌, an idea for the bottom stand thing, you could put a set of those micro led fairy lights in there. You know the small ones on the copper wire with a little battery pack.
Just an idea might look different and super cheap
FYI rubbing alcohol is good for sticker and glue residue. Great build, I would like to do something similar for a desktop tank.
Nice this tank keep the good work up MD grts from Holland ✌️🐢
Perfect timing! I was planning to do something like for my Bloody Mary shrimp
