Please instruct my ignorance--I''ve heard of callaloo all my life but never had the opportunity to raise or even eat callaloo, I'm hoping you will show us how to grow this legendary plant! Thanks, very much.
Actually, callaloo is possible from three different plants depending upon country, then you have Greens, which in USA is Turnip, and many others, and then you have Spinach.. also different..
@@audreycrawford450 true but.. callaloo is made using leaves from one plant in Jamaica. Which is related to a type of Spinach. But, in many many other countries callaloo is made from Taro or cocoyam leaves. And tastes almost the same. In Africa they cut the cocoyam leaves a certain way, and also peel the stalks and cut them a way as well.. to make their callaloo.. while in hawaii they bake pork belly in many layers of the taro leaves, wrapped in a banana leave and then placed in a layer of coals, with coals and stones on top, and then covered .. so many cultures, several plants, but same results..a delicious food called callaloo that feeds you and gives you iron
In Trinidad 🇹🇹 we use the dasheen bush to make callaloo but in Jamaica 🇯🇲 they do call this bush callaloo...each culture has their own names for the same thing 🙂
Did not know Dasheen leaves can be eaten as callaloo in Jamaica it was never eaten I’m sure never know it was eatable we live and learn when I visit Ja again must give a try . Have u ever tried the purple part of banana stem? I’ve seen it being eaten so much wasted in Ja. 👍🏻🌻
Yes in the southern Caribbean Dasheen leaf is the popular callaloo. The one shown in this video is called internationally Armaranth greens and the tiny seed of it pops like corn. Its is also know as baji or zippenah by the east Indian and Caribs. You can buy the seeds online and the different colors, whose seeds are mainly for making flour.
My favorite green but I find it hard to propagate. I don't know why. Please show me how you do it and where are you located. I live in the tropics - rain forest zone.
I get up every night and look for caterpillars or any other insects and pick them off. U can only see them in the nights when the lights are bright on them. I don't like fertiliser on my vegetable thats why i go through that extent for them.
Wash and cut it up , you can dice garlic, onions and you can even put a small amount of coconut milk and steam it down . Or fry it with a little oil/butter garlic, onions , and sprinkle of seasoning salt and tomato . Serve with rice, green banana, Dashing, yuca ,dumplings, salt fish, fry fish with gravy, stew chicken. You can also make it in rice as a cook up with onions ,garlic, thyme,1 hot pepper ,coconut cream serve with fish, chicken, salad or stir fry veggies

Nice how did you plant Thoes from seeds
Yes from seeds
I love it 😀
The callaloo is the greens off of the dashin root!
Jerry, no it's not. Callaloo is what it is and dasheen leaves are from the tuber dasheen, two completely things.
Different cultures/countries call it different things.
I am going to show u our dasheen different from callaloo.
Always reap from the tip of the leafed to where it connects from the branches.
Ok
Great job 👏
Why are there no holes in your callaloo? 😲 When we grow (in UK) they are targeted by EVERY garden bug going! Yours are lovely!
I get up every night and look for caterpillars or any other insects and pick them off. U can only see them in the nights when the lights are bright on them. I don't like fertiliser on my vegetable thats why i go through that extent for them.
Pretty

I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO DO VIDEO. Look out for it
Awesome!!!
Very nutritious
Looks so healthy. Why not just take the leaves, so it can grow most leaves faster.
When u cut it like that u get more stalk springing out.
What kind of fertilizer do you use?
I put the chicken manure in the soil before i plants it. My friends use 20/20 and they are so healthy and soft

Typeprographical error not " BUY" THE INTENDED WORD SHOULD HAVE BEEN "BUT".
