Thank you so much, my first time growing I didn't peel back the stalks so yes it was a bit stringy and chewy but still so delicious. Your videos showed me both how to harvest and clean. I really appreciate it!
Bahamas is in the house, thank you so much I appreciate watching your cooking I have calaloo in my garden watching you it was a lot of wisdom God bless.
Thank you I want to grow some right here in US Virgin Islands because when I was growing up that used to grow wild on my dad's farm in St Croix Virgin Islands...and I saw the other video on how to cut the callaloo...awesome explanation on both videos very nice thanks!
I am Jamaican and we add butter and vegetable oil in our calalloo. We don't use the bell pepper. We cut some slices of the scotch bonnet to make ours spicy
You are such a good content provider and family man, one piece of advice from me is, always use freshly ground pepper from the best pepper corns you can get because the oils in the pepper corns are very good for you and if the pepper isn’t freshly ground the oils have already dried up. Thanks for the recipe!
ohhhh my grandmother in the Philippies love this plant.. ours is the wild and smaller variety though :) very healthy! quite surprised that you have it there.... Thanks for showing another way to cook this
Looks delicious! Thanks for sharing. I've learned a lot from watching your videos. I can't wait for mine to yield. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
These greens look delicious, I love any kind of greens. I've never heard of this vegetable. Does it taste like kale? Do they sell it here in the States?
It’s more along the lines of spinach but not as delicate. It’s sold in some states in the U.S. normally at a Caribbean market and sometimes Asian or Latin markets will sell it.
It a variety of amaranth (like what you get the health food "grain" from). Can get it at African, Asian, Caribbean or Latin American markets. May be called spinach or bhaji in some Caribbean islands. It also grows wild in many parts of the South US, sometimes called "pigweed" Seeds available in plant shops, many varieties, some with different or multicolored leaves.
Thanks dear. I avoid washing direct into the sink, as the sink even if is clean, still it has some germs as the drainage has lots of bacterias. It's good if we use a big dish as well as colender to wash vegetables and fruits and all sorts of foods
Listen to me mon.......don't do it again without giving me a shout. I love my callaloo badly. It looks so soft and pretty. Bless up yuhself. By the way I just found your channel and subscribe.
Just so you know you can skip the step of stripping the calaloo. I just wash cut, season and steam.its just wonderful i believe the most nutrients are in the skin or just underneath and when cooked the skin disappear everytime. This Calaloo is very rich in Calcium and vitamin C. Try that next time i also lv out the tomato and sweet peppers
Thank you for a great video Mike, can I use coriander instead of thyme? I’m just trying to find out everything I can about Callaloo as I have never eaten or grown it or heard of it before! I was given 3 little plants and wondering how to keep them alive during our UK 🇬🇧 winter!
One variety of Jamaican or Caribbean Amaranth or Caribbean spinach. There are MANY varieties, native to the Caribbean, Latin America, US South, even Asia, different colors and sizes.
Thank you so much, my first time growing I didn't peel back the stalks so yes it was a bit stringy and chewy but still so delicious. Your videos showed me both how to harvest and clean. I really appreciate it!

If you wash your sink it should be fine. That’s why soap and water goes together to clean stuff.

@HumbleServant What’s the purpose of the salt, and what kind of salt to use, coarse or regular?
Thank you
I'm not familiar with these leaves. What root vegetable does it come from?

Shalawam Family
Where can I get Callaloo seed to buy? Where is the Salt fish?😂😂
humbleservantsstore.etsy.com
Is this plant have a thorn?
No.
It can be called ' a cousin to spinach'
I'd say spinach is more
' refined'.😊
The salt is to flush out slugs and other little creatures.
Yes the salt is to get rid of bugs and slugs.
What variety of amaranth is this?
One variety of Jamaican or Caribbean Amaranth or Caribbean spinach. There are MANY varieties, native to the Caribbean, Latin America, US South, even Asia, different colors and sizes.
