I thought the EVH sounded better for soloing but for rhythm the DSL sounded better to my ears. And I'm a DSL100HR owner. I do a little EQ-ing for my solos so I'm getting what I want out of mine 😁
Man that marshall sounds pretty rad
Love it! Man, you do great shoot-outs! Heavy and fun!
I recently purchased the 6 button PEDL-9106 footswitch for my DSL100HR and a Victory V4 Kraken tube preamp which I use with it in the 4 cable method and it basically makes it a true 6 channel setup with everything from vintage to modern high gain tones. Pretty awesome. I can get tones from just this one setup that I never would've thought possible 30 years ago for a total of about $1500 dollars.
Thanks so much for doing these, really helpful
I love my DSL 100 HR. You definitely make it growl
Man rocking out to the max.
Killer tones as always!!!!
Own both...my EVH is even white like yours! I honestly am in love with the Marshall myself...so much I bought the DSL20HR head, which holds true to the tone of the 100w head
I was about to pull the plug on a DSL20HR at Sweetwater but they are sold out. So how are you liking it?
I like the the dsl with the mids up, but the Evh I like better scooped. I think with the mids up on the Marshall would sound nice a full along with another guitar using the Evh scooped.
Great! Marshall has something else I cant explain... I liked it better.
i own the evh but i was impressed with the marshall! Holy smokes
Cool song, kirk hammet solos!!!
Hey could u do a amp head shoot out with the Marshall dsl 100 hr head vs blackstar st James 50 head
I love my DSL 100...boost in the front, EQ pedal in the loop and it just smokes.
What do you use the eq for?
@@fixelheimer3726 MXR 10 band EQ
Do you prefer the Jackson Explorer type guitar to the Gibson Explorer?
How far down do you tune? I love all your videos
Depends on how I feel... usually stick between C and D... rarely do I go into B territory, but sometimes that is fun haha! Glad you enjoy the videos! Cheers -Ryan
You must've gotten a magic Marshall. One of every thousand built. I ordered a new dsl100 hr and I unboxed it didn't make a peep so I sent it back .The next one they sent me sounded like a tube storm was raging in the amp and I sentit back. Meanwhile I found 1 an GC Hollywood or LA and i went and checked it out and it to had some snap crackle and pop butit wasn't that bad and I wanted the damn amp so I bought it and cancelled the other one.Well needless to say the snap crackle and pop got worse and now it sounds like m80's are blowin up the last time i turned it on .my latest EVH MKIII 50 watt with individual volumes for all channels has been great for 3 years and I like the EVH better anyway.
I thought I’d like th Marshall better but the EVH sounds a bit more professional, especially during the soloes.
There is no loser here, but with these eq settings I prefer the EVH.
You should do the JCM 2000 50w vs the EVH 50w
I had a gig last week and I played on an EVH 5150 Stealth. My bandmate played through Marshall JVM 410.
It seemed to me that the Marshall tone cut better through the mix. But my settings could be crap at the moment, I don't know...
Have you ever noticed something like that before? 🤷
The Mids from Marshalls tend to cut better in a full band mix, whereas, the Stealth may sound better on its own. Best bet would be to cut some of the low end and add some more mids. That doesn’t always work, but it’s a good starting point. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Alright! Thank you for your advice 😊
Why does that DSL sound so full? Even in the JCM side by side video it sounds full, and "phat". Not necessarily better, but so way thicker and tighter.
The resonance control on it is pretty good... personally I prefer the JCM 2000's Deep Switch... but the DSL 100 does the trick! Cheers -Ryan
Wow the Marshall OWNS it ! Just sayin ! My buddy has had one for YEARS and it SMOKES !
Hey man, I know that metal is your thing, but it would be cool to hear just a few second progression from clean, to dirty, to full on distorted. Say you were gonna do an Alter Bridge rock ballad and had to go from clean to distorted in an instant. Got to have an amp that can do both without fiddling with the knobs.
Love your videos, BTW!
Understandable, however, these shootouts are titled “High Gain”. If I started playing Clean Parts it would kind of contradict itself. I’m on time constraints for these videos as well so variances kind of knock me out of my loop, unfortunately. Eventually I do plan on doing some shootouts that show more versatility. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar I can totally appreciate that. I understand how hard it can be to juggle work, family, and making videos. I’ve been looking at these 2 amps for some time. Would love to see a low-wattage Orange like the TH 30 compare to these two.
The TH30 would pobably be the only lower wattage Orange amp that I would buy... but it’s not currently on the list. I *might* be picking up an Orange Rockerverb 100 mkiii this summer. But I have so many amps on my list it’s not even funny. Cheers -Ryan
🤘🎤🎅📻🎸
I would kill for these dsl settings! Please please pretty please
Sorry I don’t write down my settings and I’m constantly changing them. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar I understand, thanks.I would greatly appreciate video about how you set the dsl hr to make it sound like this.Awesome sound and great playing!
Marshall has more balls to it and a bit fuller both are great but Marshall takes the win imo.
How does that DSL compare to the JCM2000? Can you dial in the same tones with the DSL?
Somewhat... not exact... but somewhat. I do have a shootout between the two that you can hear the differences. Cheers -Ryan
No mate, the new DSL has the "ultra gain " option which is a complete game changer for me...he wasn't playing the ultra because the light is red when engaged, so there is more from this dsl... I have never been a marshall guy in my 23 years playing..owner a evh 5150iii 100w half stack with matching cab and a markv 90w and I just tried the dsl 40 combo and I was blown away I am buying this 100watts Head soon
Second sound sample was with the Ultra Gain Channel… which is from the JCM 2000 that he was asking about. I’m partially colour blind and might have messed up the colour correction? But the second sound sample is with the Ultra Gain, which requires a boost. The Ultra Gain Channel is a direct copy off of the JCM 2000 series. The DSL series is a copy of the JCM 2000 series. Cheers -Ryan
@@dedespedida4515 I own the jcm 2000 DSL 100 and of course you have to lead channel modes, so I don't understand what in that regard would be new with the newer DSL series
What happen to your jcm2000
Still have it. Cheers -Ryan
I don't think that the EVH has the bite and the bark of the Marshall...
Marshall sounds a bit scooped
the marshall is tighter
Marshall wins
Sure the Marshall sounds good. When it works. Good luck trying to keep that thing from frying it’s PC board. They are well known for this. Even now after all of the revisions that they have made, and because of a piss poor design and construction, over a short time they still have a problem with conductive boards and run away bias. To me, the EVH sounds better, performs better, better built, and much more reliable. But you need to get the one I have with dual concentric pots.
Amen. I've got a 410h that has pooped out on me two times in the last 4 gigs. I've struggled to make it sound worth half a crap over the last 8 months, and am letting it go (to get an EVH). Before I started changing all the tubes, it was one of the worst sounding amps I've ever heard. I got it better, but it still just sucks. Can't trust it now.
What high gain Marshall would you recommend that has these brutal dsl tones but reliable ?
EVH easily
