      Non of them are queens lmfao. What a contrite usage of a word used by subjugators. Drummer is an enforcer with a heart of fire. Bobbie is a war goddess forged of fire. Avasarala is a politician navigating a maze filled with snakes. Naomi, is a builder creating the world of her dreams.
      Thats like popularizing the normalizing the word slave into a position of popularity, so that all seek to be called that by the throngs of the masses. Or demonizing the word free, so that all moan, cry, and boo those who are called that.
      Strong woman is all thats needed. 2 of them are hardened but not cold, 1 of them is warm but practical and always meaning well, and 1 of them is clever, yet an interesting balance of ruthless threw others but not by her own hand, yet striving for something better.

    In retrospect, knowing all that we know now, it’s interesting seeing the reactions of both Ashford and Naomi. Ashford very quickly starts whipping up the Behemoth’s crew, getting them more and more into the speech, because he wants to see the Belt succeed, and wants to see Drummer succeed.
    Naomi grows afraid, because she’s seeing an almost nationalistic speech from yet another person she loves, and how her own history has taught her that it can very easily lead to innocent people dying.

    • @barguybrady
      @barguybrady 2 роки тому +22

      Agreed. Altho it's harder to be objective "knowing what we know now.." Still, the reactions of Klaes, Naomi, and, of course, Diogo are really important here. Diogo - ever the 'follower' - jumps upon Klaes' "punctuation" and echoes it, in hopes of approval.
      As Loco Unchained wrote earlier, Drummer uses this instance to raise Morale, even tho she is scared, too.
      So, like an experienced leader she turns a weakness into strength.

    • @operationangel7940
      @operationangel7940 3 місяці тому +1

      Totally agree! Camina and Ashford stole to show so much that I cried when Ashford was spaced. Camina is a strong woman protagonist done right. She clearly has flaws in the form of her insecurities. She feels she has to work twice as hard and must never show weakness lest the void crash in around her. It is both her flaw and her strength she must work on. At the end of the day she will make the sacrifice play with a witty retort if it means saving those around her.
      Ashford shows up like he owns the place, but you quickly realize he is only there to help. He sidesteps Camina’s more brutal aspects of her authority because he wishes for the Belt to be seen as a legitimate force. His response to Diogo questioning Camina’s authority made me realize he wasn’t in this for himself. He wanted the Belt to be better than he was, no longer caught up with senseless violence and revenge. He even admitted to Camina’s face that he believed he should be Captain. But that was not his role nor was it his intention to usurp it from her. He was the XO and his job was to keep the crew on point and help Camina.

I love scifi, but when you have people from across an entire planet that all sound the same, or people from small community that all sound different, it really detracts from the story. • @NestorCaster
      @NestorCaster 2 роки тому +6

      When you think about it… it’s opposite from what the Martians and UNN are going through-- thr Belter fleet is mostly unified even under the worse circumstances-- however you have the fears and anxieties on with UNN and Mars ships slowly push them to more and more extremes as they fracture… Belters deal with the unknown all the time, they are use to not being in control and having to deal with external and even existential powers controlling the fate of their lives and livelihoods-- UNN and MCRN aren’t. Those two powers are use to being in such high levels of control that the mere implication that they are not in control over each other, the belt or the current situation, is terrifying. This idea may have been Embodied by the fact that you have the UNN officer kill himself, before they were stucked- the UNN ppl under complete disagreement over the Ring space and the MCRN solders more and more become cagey and more agitated with every second they are there, and that gets shot up to the max, the moment they all get stuck-- they ended being less prepared than the Belters, especially with Beltalowda having a massive spin gravity based ship.

    Beltalowdah, listen up.
    This is your captain.
    And this is your ship.
    This is your moment.
    You may think that you’re scared. But you’re not. That isn’t fear. That’s your sharpness.
    That’s your power.
    We are Beltos - nothing in the void is foreign to us.
    The place we go is the place we belong - this is no different.
    No one has more right to this - not more prepared.
    Inalowda go to the ring, call it their own but a Belto opened it.
    We are the Belt.
    We are strong. We are sharp. And we don’t feel fear!
    THIS MOMENT BELONGS TO US!!!
    FOR BELTALOWDAH!!!

    Everytime I see this speech, even though I watched The Expanse twice last year, I think to myself that it's time to fire this puppy up again. This and the reboot of Battlestar Galactica are the two best sci-fi series to ever air on TV. I recently ripped through all 72 hours of BSG again and was as captivated by it as I was the first time that I watched it. Same thing goes for The Expanse. Even though you remember most of what happened, there are always new little things that you missed or forgot in each of them. So say we all/Oye Beltalawda!

    I'm only on season 4 and now realizing that Drummer will always do what is necessary regardless of her personal feelings. The moment required a shared sense of nationalism and she did what had to be done. When Marco's tongue convinced two major factions she did what was best in the moment. As someone who has worked at startups and small orgs that are trying to get off the ground running fast it's interesting to have her be an analog where you deal with short and near term constantly and just try to plan 2 or 3 steps ahead to manage the consequences.

    I know it's a star trek quote but the Belters, in this scene, are the opitome of boldly going where no-one has gone before.
    Star Trek's all cushty and sanitised when it comes to space travel but the Expanse is the perfect example of what it'd actually be like to travel to the far reaches of space. Humans will change and involve so much that they can no longer live on Earth but they will travel into the night and discover things never before seen by the naked human eye.
