    Lovely done Mike! My dad (and grand) had a lot of Märklin train things and even had a room in the house just for it. He (grand) made a lot of the stuff (electrics, houses, etc) by himself, like you do. I have pictures of it I could share. About one year ago my dad sold it all after more than 50 years storaged. But it went to someone who will make the trains roll again, so that's ok :)

    Absolutely love the layout, shows that you can have an HO scale Model Railroad in a small space. I've been taking tips and inspiration from other people's layouts and trying to adapt the features i like the most and trying to adapt to my future layout. Keep up the good work!

    Superb layout! I would say the track plan for the space is quite ingenious, with a turntable and yard located on the inside of each loop. Great channel as well!

    Since there's a port on your layout, you could try getting some more equipment like cranes to load and unload fishing boats. I think there are toys you can buy to weather and make look like actual equipment you would see working at a port.

    0:19 it’s nice to see No. 12, I think it has become one of my favorite UA-cam custom featured engines (you know, the types that UA-camrs customize and are basically a part of their channel - everyone recognizes the engine when they see it and it’s exclusive to that UA-camr) I really do think it’s a shame that it doesn’t run, but it looks very nice on static display!
    Keep up the good work, Michael!

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! I'd love to get #12 running again someday, but I doubt it will happen. More likely, I'd just end up buying another Bachmann 4-6-0 and re-creating it from scratch.

      @@michaelramsey81 imo you should give #12 a backstory (doesn’t need to be real) just something interesting to give it a reason and a story for it being on static display! And once it runs again (I believe In you!), you can make it as if some group on the Westport and shelter cove railway had a restoration project.

    • @TheBerkshireMainline
      @TheBerkshireMainline 3 роки тому +1

      @@michaelramsey81 If I were to come up with a backstory for #12, it would be something like this... I do not expect you to use this story, but I would be extremely flattered if you would. so I am pleased to present to you, the backstory of #12.
      In the mid 80’s, #12 was doing an excursion run for the annual “steam by the harbor” event at the WP&SC RW when the engine had a boiler malfunction, stopping the engine near the lighthouse. After the crew determined that the engine had a malfunction, and would need to be stopped, the engine’s fire was put out, and the water in the boiler was drained. In no time, the Fire-Department arrived to make sure that the engine wouldn't explode. The engine proceeded to be towed to the yard by #40. While the situation was de-escalated and all the precautions were taken, #13 was steamed up, and coupled up to the train. After #13 had passed the yard, #40 continued towing #12 to the turntable to be properly inspected and to not delay the passage of oncoming trains on the main line. The event was continued while Railway officials were fuming over what just happened to their beloved #12. Once the engine was inspected in the following weeks, the railway officials determined that the engine suffered a major boiler leak and it was a miracle that the engine didn’t explode. After long consideration, the Railway decided that it was too expensive to mend the engine and decided to transfer it to static display later that year. In years to come, a new engine was brought in to replace the #12, the engine was #9 and was renumbered from its original number in the coming months. After many years, in 1997, #12 was lacking some love, so a railway historical society club called the “Red Oak R.R Historical Society” came to cosmetically restore the locomotive in 2004. The locomotive was repainted in it’s wonderful and original Black, Sky Blue and Maroon paint scheme. Now we come to 2020, The Red Oak members decided to offer a full restoration project on the engine, and for a bargain price! Thankfully, the WP&SC RW agreed to the project and in September of 2021, the restoration project began!
      Once again, I do not expect you to use this, in fact you can change this up. I hope you are pleased with my story and I also hope that it will come to good use.

    Do you think you could film the running video but put sound from real engines in as well? I'm sure many people would be willing to help (including myself) as long as we know what whistles each engine has. Perhaps a list of locomotive numbers corresponding to the whistle it has, for example:
    22 - ALCo 5 Chime
    35 - Crosby 3 Chime
    38 - Southern Freight 3 Chime, etc.
    But that's just an idea

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  3 роки тому

      It's an idea I've thought about. In a couple of videos on my previous layout, I did a few seconds of real engine sounds. I don't do it very often, though, because editing the sound to synchronize the speed is very time consuming.

    You should get a roundhouse for your layout

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  3 роки тому

      I have thought about it, but since there are stalls going most of the way around the turntable, it would have to be a huge roundhouse. Besides, I like my locos being on display. I might add a small roundhouse covering only 2 or 3 tracks at some point, but probably not all of them.

    I'm not that experienced at building models and kits, so I'm just a little curious how easy it is to put together. for example, do the pieces all simply click together, or did you have to use glue or something? also are there ready built boat models out there, in case i can avoid buying a kit?

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  3 роки тому

      It really depends on the kit. Some will snap together without glue (although they usually hold together better if you use glue). Most kits require some glue. This particular boat kit has a lot of tiny parts that have to be glued, so I wouldn't recommend it for your first kit.
      There are quite a few pre-built HO structures on the market, but not many boats that I can find. If you'd rather not have to build a kit, there are a few 3D printed HO scale boats available on eBay. The detail usually isn't as good as a kit, but they can be made to look decent. Here's one that comes pre-painted: www.ebay.ca/itm/164875836879
      If you want to learn how to build kits, I'd recommend starting with some simple structure kits first. They're designed for model cement, but you can use superglue if you want - just use a toothpick to apply it very finely, and get some CA accelerator to cure it quickly. Once you have 2 or 3 successful kit builds under your belt, the Walthers boat kit shouldn't be too difficult.

    If you want to go with the Star Trek look, do you member in one of the Star Trek movies they had the enterprise ship I’ll go with that

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  Рік тому

      Yep, I believe that was in Star Trek: Generations. If I had room for a ship that large on the layout, I'd love to have a model of it, but for now, I think it would overwhelm the harbor.
      Fun fact - the actual ship used for the 19th century "Enterprise" was the Lady Washington, which my grandfather used to work on, so I actually have a personal connection to that movie.
