    You can change the whistle of the 4-4-0 locomotive by pressing prog/esc four times until it reaches program track. Hit Enter. Press 2 for CV. Depending on how old the locomotive is the CV’s might be different. Type in 115 to select whistles. Hit Enter, then enter a number 0 to 2 to change the whistle. Hit Enter when you are ready and press prog/esc. Enjoy your new whistle. (Changing the whistle might require unplugging and replugging the power pack due to the bell button being changed to a whistle. Doing this will reset the bell button to sound the bell) I hope you found this useful!

    How did you wire the switches on your layout for both dc and Dcc operation? I also have electro frog turnouts and I’m not quite sure how I’m going to run both dc and Dcc while all the tracks are live… any tips?

      I put insulating joiners on both frog rails of most of the switches, and wired power feeders to the resulting isolated sections of rail. Those switches essentially operate like Insulfrogs, but without an electrical gap. (They do short out if I try to run through them the wrong way.) The only exceptions are the yard switches, which are wired like normal Electrofrogs and only power the track that they're lined for.

      I’m in the process of doing the same thing to my layout, so I came back to this video for reference. My layout is currently wired with a duel-pack DC controller, as my layout has two running lines. The two lines are isolated for independent DC control and I can only use my DCC controller on the outside line. Any suggestions for how I can wire it so that I can still run two DC locomotives at once, while also being able to run DCC locomotives on both tracks?

    Now how did you get that switch from DC to DCC to work?

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  2 роки тому +1

      It's a DPDT toggle. The center pair of contacts goes to the track. The DCC system's output goes to the pair of contacts on one side of the switch, and the DC transformer's output to the other. Thus, depending on the position of the switch, either the DC or DCC output will connect to the track.

      @@michaelramsey81 Thanks man, I needed that info because I wanted to do something like that on my layout. Huge fan and I would love to see more videos from you! By now!

    I just had an idea regarding this being your only sound locomotive (as far as I know). I know at one point you made a dc sound system for your old Red Oak layout, using a Bachmann 4-6-0 sound decoder. I know you don’t have that engine in working order anymore because of the garbage motor Bachmann used for it, but you do have two spectrum 4-6-0’s. Would you be able to wire the decoder back for use with one of them?

      I've experimented with that. Although it hasn't appeared in a video yet, I actually bought a TCS WowSound decoder and speaker. They're currently installed in my Spectrum SY Mikado (I wanted to put them in one of my Spectrum 4-6-0s but the speaker wouldn't fit).

    Great goin' on the NCE !!.. NCE is king..Be carefull not to press down hard on the speed wheel..It ruins a chip or such on its axle and quits working, forcing use of the speed buttons...I broke mine and NCE sent me a new wheel. ..(maybe they've reinforced them since then, some 12 years back)..

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81  Рік тому

      I've already replaced the wheel encoder on mine once before. I ordered a couple of extra ones in case I need to do it again. That seems to be the one weakness of the PowerCab - apart from that, it's been a fantastic system.
