    I drove a 64 Dynamic 88 to work for many years in the late 70s thru early 80s. Same engine as that (394 2bbl) . Car was a tank! A reliable, go nearly anywhere, snow, ice, whatever tank. I wish I had it back,...

    Definitely looks like an engine swap. I drove a 64 Dynamic 88 and then a 98 Luxury Sedan for over 25 years all across America, then moved to Brazil in 1999. The 98 sits now in a museum and the 88 starred in a crash derby! I had collected every option possible for these models while cruising junk yards across America and did my own maintenance and restoration. The 394 was a bullet proof engine and the roto-turbo-hydramatic never failed me. Both running cars, I bought for $100 each and I changed oil every 3000 miles! I used to be the 64 year advisor many years ago for the two Olds clubs and had all the books, etc. I still have my fond memories.

    There might still be the 'Oldsmobile Club of America' based in Ohio. great source for parts. Also, "Hemmings Motor News" is probably the best source for parts anywhere. Available at some news stands. Hemmings still exists. Best of luck with this!! I've owned several many years ago, and the 394 is nearly bulletproof. One hell of an engine.

    Wow, old school Gen 1 Olds 394. Before I saw it I thought it would be a 330. Bummer it wasn't the 4 barrel high compression mill but it's still cool being a 394. Looks like it's been sittin since LBJ was prez.

    I love 64 Oldsmobiles. My Dad bought a 64 Super 88 with the 394. What a torque monster. I wish he'd have sold it to me instead of trading it in at the dealer for a 73 98. I have subscribed. I am watching from Ohio. Where are you? You never tried to see if it would turn over?

    I had a 64 Jetstar, 4 dr. , I got it off my Dad, he told me it was 350 Olds in it but I thought it was a 330, either way it had the speed automatic, i think Olds equivalent to a 350 turbomatic, i don't remember what Olds called theirs. My cousin had a 64 F85 now it had a 330 and powerglide ( 2 speed auto) . Yours sure looks like a big block Olds, ,394.

    You have what looks like a car someone custom ordered. back then you could order a car any way you wanted. Not like today where you can pick from two or three different option packages. My 1964 Starfire convertible's engine number starts with J and ends with S it is a 394 4 barrel high compression engine. Witch is the standard engine for a Jetstar 1. But somebody could have ordered the 2 barrel lower compression 394 so they could run it on regular gas. The other odd things I notice is it has power steering but manual brakes and it has the heavy duty cooling package because it has the much bigger radiator. Look closely at the bolts on the driver's side exhaust manifold because it is the one that would come with a Starfire or Jetstar 1 for dual exhaust. if this engine was swapped out of another model car it would have the outlet flange in the middle pointing down because the single exhaust pipe would go down under the oil pan and go into the front of the passenger side manifold that has the block off plate for dual exhaust on it. If you can free up the engine it would run on today's gas much better than the high compression Starfire engine's 10.5 to one compression as I need to add octane booster to keep my Starfire from knocking.

      I was thinking the same thing. Someone ordered it which would explain the minor variations from standard offering

    That should be a 394, Some of them were 350 hp I had one in my 65 88, convertible Had a 455,I found a low mile 394 100 bucks back in 1986 that thing would smoke the tire off, and that was a big car

    It didn't look bad at all under those valve covers to me. It looks like those rockers and springs were not rusted up or seized up at all. I bet if he would replace the plus wires cap and rotor points and made a fueling method it would fire up fairly quickly. Spray all the mechanisms on the carb down with penetrating fluid (WD-40 or Whatever your favorite spray is) and make sure it's not clogged up or the jets aren't blocked and away she'll go!

    Also you pointed out the vacuum gauge on the console instead of a tachometer. My Starfire has a tachometer there but our family bought and stripped all the good parts of a 1964 98 sport coupe that had the bucket seats and floor shift console with a vacuum gauge instead of the tachometer. So it seems you could order a1964 Oldsmobile that had the console and Tee-handle floor shift with ether one.

      I wonder if the build sheet is inside somewhere?

    • @raymondsmith7993
      @raymondsmith7993 Місяць тому

      @@PlayOnWheels A build sheet could be under the rear seat or behind the rear seat back. and we found one in a 1965 Oldsmobile convertible stuck to the back side of the driver's side rear arm rest/side panel. But when the car sets where the mice get into the inside the build sheet is most likely to have been chewed up.

      @@PlayOnWheels My 1964 Starfire has cardboard tags stapled to the underside of the carpets that say barton carpet mill September 1963 and my car has a low VIN number and the original owner we bought the car from said he ordered the car in late August and took delivery in the first week of October. So all the parts of the car were manufactured in late 1963 including the engine and transmission so if your car is an early production model too would be why your engine's date code is 1963.

    Nice car model years General Motors used usually start in September so a 64 model actually started in September 1963 so that’s probably the original 394. There’s a day code on the engine two that tells you month year and day on the engine. I would say if you cleaned up the engine and pull the plug, soak the cylinders down with penetrating oil really have a good and leave the plugs out. You might be able to get it to turn over if you do try to turn it over try to do it at the fly wheel. You have more torque there than you do at the balancer and Oldsmobile, like Pontiac had what they called a premium engine, which was high compression with a two barrel and then you had a compression with a four barrel there’s a code on either head at the very front by the exhaust port that’s got a letter tells you what head it is

    This car could easily be an early year model that came off the assembly line several months the previous year. Very common. Just because that block is a year earlier doesn't mean it isn't original.
