As the owner of a '96 Ranger 5-sp I enjoyed your video. I would plead for much more detail. For instance "the starter is held in by two 13 mm bolts....." and so on. This would be incredibly helpful to us shade tree mechanics. I know it is hard but please try to video the actual removal/installation of each part, not just the done deal. These are the sort of video's that really help me.
Got a 1995 Ranger extra cab. Will at some point have to replace the clutch and have been wondering about it. Thanks for the video. Will save this for future viewing! Keep 'em Up.
Did you bleed the new slave? Just did a clutch on my 08. Clutch flywheel Pilot and rear main seal. However pedal is just seems softer than before i did the job.. No leaks fluids good. Any ideas? I just slapped the slave in did nothing else Best tyvm for video
I had a 93 and a 99 ranger both 5-speed. They seem to be very light duty transmissions. Shered 1st gear in my 93 4.0 and lost the synchros in 3rd in my 99 2.5. Both under 100k miles when it happened.
Exact same problem AFTER a new clutch, press plate, master and space installed. Bled at dealer twice. After a couple of weeks, same problem. Just had another new slave installed - seems 95% fixed. Time will tell. I really suspect that a slave would have fixed yours. That is, if mine is finally fixed. Lol.
How did you get the transmission back in? We've been wrestling it for weeks now trying to get it back in. We're asking everyone why it's so hard to get it back in. We're honestly about to give up & burn this project to the ground, any help would be extremely helpful, thank you 👍 👌
Did you need to remove the shifter stub at the top when you removed the transmission underneath? @11:16, I saw you still had the shifter stub attached to the transmission.
I think its just the rusty Ford's that the disconnects don't work on, both my family's 99s, mine and their box truck, the disconnects I've had to deal with in various places, some better than others, all worked great.
Clutch didnt look too bad. How was the flywheel on that ? Some people scuff them up a bit with sand paper, some just install a new clutch or have them turned if they were damaged. Whats your opinion on that.....
More350Power The flywheel looked about the same as the pressure plate that came off. It's probably not a bad idea to resurface or replace the flywheel when putting in a new clutch but because its my truck I didn't bother.
how did you get the pressure plate fins to compress that much? I torqued mine down evenly and Its not enough for the trans to mate to the engine need help!
I think the reason you feel this way is he's speaking to people who are constantly working on different vehicles and have built a more mechanically inclined prescription not to the guy serving at Starbucks who decided to take on a project with his tool bag containing a Philips screw driver and a pipe wrench
I'm having an issue inserting the input shaft back into the clutch as soon and the throw out bearing touches the pressure plate it want go anymore ,so I have about a half inch gap between the bell housing and the engine. i only replaced the slave
At 2:18 wouldn’t u like to just get the stick shift an beet the engineers with it that just had to design a transmission with a internal slave cylinder?
What year is your car? I have been doing extensive research regarding the clutch for the 4.0 V6 engine and there are four generations of clutches, and yours is either the third or the fourth gen with self adjusting mechanism. Ford has gotten me extremely infuriating as their vehicle fitments are all over the place and the logic just doesn’t check out! Let me explain, the first gen pressure plate(5L2Z-7563-A, non self adjusting, discontinued), fits 1991-1995 ranger and 1991-1994 explorer, the second gen pressure plate(F67Z-7563-GAA, non self adjusting, discontinued) fits 1995-1997 ranger and explorer, the third gen (YL5Z-7563-AA, self adjusting, discontinued) fits 1998-2004 ranger, 1998-2001 explorer, the fourth gen (7L5Z-7563-C, self adjusting, available) fits 2001-2011 ranger, 2001 explorer, 2001-2002 explorer sport, 2001-2003 explorer sport trac. However! The flywheel(2L5Z-6375-AA, available), fits 1990-2011 ranger and a bunch of other models, I mean if the flywheel fits all models, I don’t see why the fourth gen clutch doesn’t fit all models too.
I may hate California politicians and want to move out of state to a nice conservative state every time I leave for he house or turn on the TV but when I see cars from snow country covered in rust it is one thing I do like in California... No rust. My 1998 Mazda b2500 (ranger clone) looks like it is new still underneath once I washed the road grime off. Great video and thanks for posting it.
Thats what happened with mine, slave is still great, pilot bearing sticks, still goes in gear but gotta wait for the input shaft to free up from the pilot bearing.
Oh i can see what the next video is going to be. It is going to be about the green 1982 Ford are you fixing it or did you just drop gas in the crab to make it start?
im currently doing my clutch replacement (pressure plate and slave cylinder too) with two friends of mine and those two bolts alone took 3-4 hours. We took the exhaust manifold out, was the only way we were able to undo the top bolt from the passenger side. The other one was a tiny bit easier with the right extensions. But those two alone were a pain in the a**. Currently waiting on the kit to arrive to put everything back in
The clutch kit he got is for a heavy duty transmission. The a regular clutch kit won’t work for the heavy duty transmission. It’s a factory kit but it’s special order... I just bought one from NAPA for my 2003 and it’s hella expensive. But the only alternative was to replace the heavy duty transmission with a regular transmission and then use a regular ford clutch kit. I’ll be installing it this week and hope it goes well :)
Man there is a bunch of whiney ass people complaining on here. Would you like this man come to your house and hold your hand too while replacing your clutch? Just buy a chilton manual if you need to know all the details

I have a '93 rice Ranger with a slipping clutch. This video will definitely help.
I changed mine on a 95 ranger. They could have put the slave on the outside and saved me a lot of work

barfass You're welcome. I hope this video will help when the time comes.
how to tell what size of clutch 8inch or 9inch
This looks alot easier then it is
Excellent video thank you for your knowledge and time making helped a lot
Nice work! 311k on that and still runs good!
klc317 Thanks
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It helped me out tremendously.
Did you bleed the new slave?

It would help if the transmission fluid got changed when its supposed to

Did u keep having problems?

Self adjusting pressure plate was what u put in vs what came out wasnt.. Did you Notice any difference?
Greats video. Thank you!
Did you need to remove the shifter stub at the top when you removed the transmission underneath? @11:16, I saw you still had the shifter stub attached to the transmission.
Would it make a difference if I left the old pilot bearing in there
It might be a good idea to replace the flywheel because the starter teeth get worn down. Replace it now while you're at it.
Was the pilot bearing destroyed before you pulled it out? Did the trans hold up okay?
Gracias for the video
Fargo is one of my favorite movies. Yah, ya know right? Over here yah. Prowler needs a jump. Cool vid.
Thank you!
oh yeah tool size, type needed would be nice to know. socket, wrench extensions???
hey man thank you for this video. just got a ranger and you helped me out to know exactly what to do before I did it! great video! keep it up!

How n from where did u take it out the top passenger side bolt????
Doing this tomorrow not to psyched about it
same...lol
My info got my clutch kit from rock auto for like 115 put 500 miles on it and then it handed everything I threw at it from 6k dumps and hard shifts 👌🏼
k thx gonna try this weekend
how did you get the pressure plate fins to compress that much? I torqued mine down evenly and Its not enough for the trans to mate to the engine need help!
Did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same problem
you skiped the parts that actually help other people out.
yeah like the top 2 bellhousing bolts. Makes me wonder if HE really did it!
I think the reason you feel this way is he's speaking to people who are constantly working on different vehicles and have built a more mechanically inclined prescription not to the guy serving at Starbucks who decided to take on a project with his tool bag containing a Philips screw driver and a pipe wrench

friend the 2L5Z-6375-AA clutch will fit my explorer 1996 4.0 ohv standard 5 speed? Your answer would help me a lot.

Come to South Carolina or Florida lol
I've noticed the piolet barring goes before the clutch

Great video. Helped me out alot. Gained a new subscription

Steven Lebbing I did a temporary fix on it to get it started.
seen a guy pound out a pilot bearing out with a ball of bread and a wooden dowel
O whao good
so how long did it take really? weekend? week? one day?
How to know if pressure plate is bad
Ford ranger 3.0ltr how to know if pressure plate is bad
How did you get to the top 2 housing bolts??
yeah how convenient that he left the hard part out! Makes me wonder if HE really did it!

With persistence, persuasion and determination I found removing both inner fender wells and going through the side worked tremendously well
where did you order your parts from?
+teiaperigosa I got them online from rockauto
You can get the kit on Amazon for 220 buck Canadian too
Why did your dad ever buy this truck for?
RomneyGack To replace the blue truck.
Definitely had a different clutch in it that pressure plate isnt factory

why in the fuck did ford put a slave cylinder inside the transmission..
Brendan May because ford
No clutch torque specs. WTF?!
U monetize ur videos?
guitargod259 Yes
Wow you must make a killing off of it.
guitargod259 I wish
