Bilge air in cabin space. 1- seal bilge from the cabin or ventilate bilge full time to pull a negative pressure. 2- install traps in condensate lines so water cannot be drawn back into the evsp. This should be routine if the evap. coil/drain pan is in the return. 3- drain condensate pipe to a pump out similar to a shower drain catchpan and pump overboard. Or install condensate pumps to discharge condensate directly overboard. 4- Install return air duct from fan cabin spaces so no bilge air can be circulated only cabin air. 5- UV sanitizer in airduct. Avoid ozone generators is any personel locations. Some research needed for various products to sanitize air. I think that 1, 2, 4 should be required.

I suggest putting a P trap in the condensate drain to prevent bilge air from coming up into the cabin. Commercial HVAC guys put p traps in condensate drains for a similar issue - sometimes units will pull so much vacuum that the condensate won’t drain at all. Once they install a p trap, it drains fine and isn’t able to pull a vacuum on the drain line.

I was thinking about the gas in the water tank issue you had:
Couldn't a person install a temporary recirculating pump from the bottom of the tank to the deck level fill and run it for a few hours at a time, to make sure the tank gets scrubbed by the degreaser\dawn you put in it?
Maybe put a tee in the line connecting them to drain off\fill every so often.
Hopefully you don't have to do this "repair" too often, seems like a PITA.

On my boat, the fresh water fill is literally about 18 inches from the port fuel fill on the side deck. Right after I bought the boat, I caught a fuel dock attendant as he was literally sticking the diesel pump nozzle into the water fill to begin fueling the boat. Since that near miss, I never walk away when the boat is being fueled and also had an adhesive placard made which says "fuel fill" and points to the correct cap. I can't imagine what it would take to ever get my fresh water tank decontaminated, if gallons of diesel were ever to be pumped into it. Of course, it would also be bad, if fresh water ever got pumped into the diesel tank. Sometimes, I think that certain aspects of my boat must have been designed by the engineers in Taiwan late on a Friday afternoon before a holiday weekend.🙄

I have seen quite a few boats run out of fuel. In my case I watch my tank level closely. I had a friend who was a charter captain . He had an old Brownell with a two cycle diesel. He ran out of fuel right at the dock. What a time he had purging the air from his fuel lines. Another friend had a big sailboat. He went to the fuel dock and left the dock person to fuel his boat. By mistake they put fuel in his water tank and went through the process you used more or less to get rid of it all along with the smell. I remember it took some time to clean the tank out.

That clear reinforced water line that’s so common in the freshwater systems is so problematic. No matter how tight you tighten the hose clamps they always to leak some time later, so you snug it up and some months later it leaks again. What’s happening is the moisture, both inside and out is causing the vinyl to shrink and harden across the hose’s cross section. This means the ID is enlarging and loosening over the hose barb. The OD shrinks away from the hose clamp. The way to solve this is to use “stainless, double wire spring hose clamps” these provide constant pressure evenly around the circumference. A common worm hose clamp can’t follow up on the tension. You might have to purchase a few different brands of wire or even some band clamps to find the ones that work best for you.

    • @WillFixThat
