I'm really glad Eric correctly identified X-Cutioner's speech as 'Proud Boy shit'. I was so tired after this episode came out, seeing people claiming that he had a point or saying he was 'spitting facts' - and not even the obvious suspects.
I always appreciate how X-Men is so good at getting people to take off their masks to show their bigotry
Ya, a lot of fans can miss the very obvious point sometimes. It's kinda funny that it was one of the more on the nose speeches in terms of what it was trying to say, and people still managed to not understand

funny just how easily minorities and allies can spot this kind of dialogue while others are completely oblivious to it
Remember during Falcon & Winter Soldier, when John Walker brutally murdered someone in public for a crime he didn't even commit -- and then a ton of people were praising him and saying he was right to do it?

In the original series Wolverine has said that Morph was the only one that could make him laugh. They are really good friends.

I think from Wolverine's perspective they are great friends but I get the feeling, from this series especially, that Morph is in love with Wolverine.

Storm striking the desert sands with lightning to make a glass tornado which ripped the sentinels apart was so awesome! And Magneto’s dialogue in this episode is some of the best ever written for him.
That was epic.
I loved the first episode but Magneto's speeches in this episode is what sold me on 97 as being more than fun nostalgia. This is peak X-Men.
cyclops vs xcutioner is a really potent encapsulation of the minority struggles that x-men captures. cyclops is being beaten, spat on, and called petulant, all while *keeping his eyes closed, forced to protect x-cutioner*
Well said. Especially xcutioner's statement about "it's your whining, I hate your whining almost as much as I hate you." That's, unfortunately, how many bigots view the protest of minority struggle.
Magneto's "do not make me let you down" speech STILL gives me goosebumps. Holy fuck, this series is incredible.
The first episode of X-Men 97 is a fun return with a cool cliffhanger. From the second episode onwards - it becomes the greatest X-Men adaptation ever.
"Everyone has issues, but we're not complaining", that line was so obviously written by someone who knows what they're doing.
And the scene of the doctors denying some people access. In this case they have kind of a point since mutants have powers.
In real life they have no excuses.
Overall I like how they portray social issues threw the X-Man but sometimes it doesn’t work that well. Because like you said they have actual powers and make some of humans concerns relevant vs in the real world they wouldn’t be.

I forget who said it, but X-Men 97 sums it up pretty well:
“Venom became a hero over the years because of his fun power set and great design. Magneto became a hero because it became harder and harder to say he was wrong about the world.”

@@looming416absolutely. But the trajectory is there, and in recent years the Power of X and House of X runs really cemented him and Charles as united behind a shared mutant cause that’s an amalgamation of the two ideologies.
Fun fact regarding Magneto's helmet. It blocking Charles' telepathy was an invention of the 2000's movies, so at the time of the original cartoon it pretty much was just there to look cool.
Juggernaut does have a helmet that blocks telepathy though

Wolverine thinking Apocalypse was coming during Jean’s pregnancy is so him😂 & Magneto has some of the hardest lines so far & him battling with himself with Charles ideal was cool up in the atmosphere

Magneto's speech in this episode was incredible and it hasn't left my mind since the episode aired even 9 weeks later. X-Men 97 is Marvel TV at it's best!
I'm a life long X-Men fan, 30+ years. This show is the best adaptation of the X-Men in any medium. The writing in this show is thoughtful, heartfelt, profound, and highlights each character's personality and their dynamics amongst each other accurately. Like, this show is the closest thing to how the comics feel. The animation only gets better and the action sequences will exceed your expectations. You haven't seen anything yet, as far as the feats they display when it comes to showcasing their powers, the fight choreography, the team work. You guys are in for one of the best comic book adaptations ever.

Matthew Watterson has such an awesome voice! His performance as Magneto is simply superb.
Storm is never from Wakanda.
She is effectively a combo of Kenyan, New Yorker and Egyptian.
Her mother was a Kenyan princess who gave birth to her in Harlem, and when she was 6 months old she moved to Cairo, where she grew up.
As a teenager, she eventually goes to the southwestern edge of Kenya itself, where she's basically a princess, where she meets T'Challa.
In Kenya is where she first gets her powers, and she gets like adopted by a tribe and becomes their weather goddess.
And then Xavier finally comes along and recruits her.
Much much much much later she gets back together with T'Challa, who at that point is Black Panther and king of Wakanda, and they get married and she becomes queen of Wakanda.
I blame Reginald Hudson for wanting his Black Power Couple so much he overrode established characterisation… Also, the whole thing about Wakanda having the cure for cancer (among other things) but withholding it in what allegedly *isn’t* supposed to be hypocritical actions.
And people think the MCU *started* the problems in writing we most complain of… Pah.

@@franciscooctavius5957 Not gonna argue with that; they did some stuff better than the comics (especially when they took messy or just bad stories or story concepts and made better versions of them - see "Civil War"), but they've increasingly made bad choices in recent years.
And yes, a lot of things they were doing from early on were bad. Especially when they did them so often, so we couldn't view them in isolation (like setting up a villain and then killing them off anticlimactically in their second appearances - see Zola, Crossbones, Klaue, Strucker... they even almost did it with Mordo in DS: MoM as the script has the version from DS! being killed by Wanda!)

This may be the first time I've ever wanted you all to binge watch a series in one sitting.
I have never loved Magneto more as a character on screen than in this one episode of tv! He still is the same man we knew as the antagonist in the original series, but to honor the memory and legacy of Charles Xavier, he is trying to be a better version of himself.
It even reflects in his new uniform, it’s no longer armored or intimidating, a symbol that he is willing to change. Also I love that he is far more proactive than Charles was, by taking the Morlocks to the safe haven of Genosha rather than leave them in the sewers.
Morph and Wolverine are friends since the 90´s version of the show, Logan is the most angry when he is killed by the sentinels
If you thought this episode was 'Hot Fire', you're gonna be roasted alive for the rest of the season, sooner than you think

Magneto is an absolute HIGHLIGHT in an already fantastic show
Everything Magneto says in this episode is basically, "for everyone in the back who somehow still don't understand what X-Men stories are really about, let me spell it out for you."
They understand, they just choose to not know.
Eric’s impression as Magneto saying “Never again” at 14:37 was actually incredible and really spot-on, he could totally be a voice actor.
I noticed that too, alongside his impression of "Who, Apocalypse?"
Jean saw Cyclops eyes when she was Phoenix. Phoenix’s powers could hold back Cyclops powers
Scott also loses his powers a couple of times on the og series, both times Jean being there.
I believe Jean can use a psychic block to stop Scott's blast. He can't control it because of a brain injury as a child

I believe during the Phoenix arc, Jean used her powers to neutralize Scott's eye blasts.
Logan being totally ready to fight against apocalypse but being totally dumbfounded when he realises it's the baby is so....Logan.

A good way to think about which powers Morph can use is to compare him to Eraser from My Hero. If Eraser couldn't turn it off, Morph can use it and vice versa.

About Jean seeing Cyclops’s eyes, she hadnt seen them before the Dark Phoenix saga. She used her enhanced cognitive powers to briefly turn off Scott’s vision which allowed them to see each others eyes properly for the first time. And then they boned.
The dialogue just gets better and better and better each episode 😩
Magneto's little speech up in the Atmosphere reminded me of Samuel Jackson's speech in the Diner to Tim Roth. "I'm Trying Ringo, I'm Trying REAL HARD"
Magneto doesnt believe in Charles methods, but he believes in Charles
Rogue's power is that she siphons life energy and memories from anyone she touches. In the case of mutants, she also gains their abilities for the same duration. That's literally her only power. But when she was a villain, she held onto Captain Marvel to the point she almost killed her, and permanently absorbed all her powers, and her memories. Thus her super strength, super durability, flight.
Morph's ability is hecking AWESOME. I never realized he doesn't just shapeshift into other forms, but also getting their physical mutant abilities.
God, after the finale im so ready to see these reactions. This is peak Marvel
fun fact there is a younger rogue comic where she has to absorb sniping skills from blackwidow cause her shooting arm is injured and she becomes a perfect marksman for a bit
In one comic, she actually gets complete control of her powers, and she is able to remember and use everyone's memories and powers shes ever touched. It was great.

Whose watching this after the finale? Y'all are in for some straight fire. This show and season as a whole has made me feel more excited about future animated shows they will be doing and did not disappoint. Not one episode was ever even just okay. It was all fantastic in my opinion.
Every line of Magneto blew me away. And I was genuinely shocked when Storm got hit.
22:00 They address this later in the show, but Jean is strong enough that she can block his optic blasts and see his eyes.
Storm is actually American. Her parents were diplomats or some such and they and Ororo were in Africa when her parents tragiclly died. I believe there was an earthquake and the hotel they were staying in collapsed. Ororo was trapped in the rubble for days and that's were she got her paralyzing claustrophobia. She was rescued and ended up a homeless street urchin making by on pickpocketing tourists. One fellow she tried picking his wallet happend to be Xavier. Of course it's impossible to pick a telepaths pocket. So he froze her mind and seen she was gifted. He let her go but kept track of her and when she got older and he needed a new team of X-MEN he asked her to join him and the team.
So glad yall are finally checking the show out. This is the best show of the year thus far, imo. I've finished it. Which says alot since, I watched/covered Shogun, The Bad Batch S3 and Fallout. Yall ain't ready for what's coming. The dialogue is gona get better and better!!!

In the OG series during the Dark Phoenix saga, Jean was strong enough to hold back Scott's beams, they had a scene where Jean stopped the beams bc she wanted to look into Scott's eyes
Rogue absorbs [everything] from an individual: memories, knowledge, etc. She just happens to also pick up powers if the individual innately has them. There are some great moments of her using this in the field in other media (X-men Evolution, Wolverine & The X-men)
Well, Jean has blue eyes (in the show anyway), and the baby has brown eyes. So by deduction, he has Scott's eyes.
Magneto's lines are amazing in this episode :)
I love how bold this show is to have a scene reminiscent of the Jan 6th insurgence with the FOH attacking the trial. And then when X-Cutioner is pummeling Cyclops, his speech about how racists like him perfectly mirrors how white nationalists feel THEY are stronger for not complaining about being persecuted.
There’s sadly no way that the MCU would ever be brave enough to do this in their movies, but I would love to be wrong.
You know what this works the other way around as well. But here the fear is much more , because here the common human is afraid they are getting replaced by "mutants" just like how the current government favors Illegal Immigrants more than their own citizens. The sense of education , manpower and employment risk humanity can face with a more efficient and durable "mutant race" has arrived , kind of similar to overexposure to you know "special individuals" and "artificial intelligence" taking over regular citizen's job in the name of "diversity". And then there is government focusing more on surveiling and supporting "Genosha" a mutant haven with better infrastructure while abandoning their own states and cities problems , just like United States does with giving away taxpaying dollars to countries like "Ukraine" and "Israel" rather than investing on their own underdeveloped cities or better health care , which is funny because some "folks" screamed at Trump for not caring about health care while at the same time not saying a damn word when Biden is doing the very same thing.
Now , before you label me as some "right wing symphatizer" , let me be clear , I am not picking sides , I am just the guy who knows both the sides of the Political Spectrum is equally ridiculous as the other. But I agree Jan 6 was a huge mistake from the "right wing" politics

Magneto is arguably the best character in this show
The story lines of this series are singular talent on display. In addition to the visuals which literally place you directly in the comic book. Keep watching you will be amazed. Storms story line is one of the best ever written. And if a cartoon depiction could ever be hotter than Haley Berry, they’ve achieved it lol. So many huge moments in the comics are covered in this 10 ep series you will be blown away.

After everything that is the MCU, it’s so good to have something from Marvel that actually takes itself seriously and doesn’t constantly make fun of the concept of superheroes. The grand moments aren’t cut short with a joke, imposing characters aren’t made fun of for being too serious or lame, the writing is actually good.
21:40 *Aaron:* _"Has Jean seen Cyclops's eyes?"_ Yes. There is a scene in _X-Men The Last Stand_ where she tells him to open his eyes and that she can hold back the power completely.
Now that scene was essentially lifted directly from the comics, shortly after the *Phoenix* power is starting to manifest itself. *Scott* and *Jean* are at Warren Worthington's (Angel) compound/getaway in the desert. They're having a picnic on top of a plateau when this occurs. In *Scott's* thought bubble, he's kinda freaked out at the power required to hold back his optic blasts, and she's not breaking a sweat.
I think they should have played out the Phoenix Saga over the course of 3 films.
