- The Lone Piper at Queen Elizabeth II Funeral
The music that signaled the start of the Queen's mornings signaled the end of her funeral, as he played one final lament, “A Salute to the Royal Fendersmith,” while her coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault beneath St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Pipe Major Paul Burns
I felt it was the most simple part of the day but the most poignant
I've made a couple of subtle edits of my own to enhance the original broadcast
The piper called for her soul, and led her away, so the family could bury her remains. What a beautiful moment.
That is a beautiful and wishful idea. She would be child skipping to the music? Your comment will give people a lot to think about.
Emma.. Extremely emotional and very moving... was in tears with the rest of the world XX
@@feliciawillson3345 I personally think she would be herself from her 20’s with Phillip waiting at the end for her 🥺
Beautiful
@@louisegraham157 I like that idea too.
As a Scotsman, I'm intensely proud that my beloved Queen Elizabeth II chose to see out her days in Scotland.
Rest in Peace, Ma'am.

She loved Scotland.
As do we.
Until ya come to Wembley.x
Born in London tho!
@@DRoberts-we2vg Yes she was, however she was half Scottish, her mother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was a Scot born and bred. Her late MTQ was proud of her Scottish roots and of her love of her Balmoral estate, which was privately owned by her.
She loved all of her peoples in the UK, Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth and served over 70 years of unwavering service with no prejudice.

@@deenieteenie3934I’m actually a sea cadet and when I watched her funeral. It was just a massive sorrow for the people in London and global.
I'm Japanese, but I don't think there's anyone who has been so loved by the people. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Princess Diana was loved greatly too. It was an amazing turn out for her as well. I remember men and women openly crying in the streets and the beautiful sound of the church bells as her casket left the church after her service. I felt so sad for Harry and William. Both just boys at the time and having to solemnly walk behind their Mom’s coffin in public for some distance. Also Diana’s brother’s speech for her was beautiful and touching, and the massive round of applause in reaction that spilled from the public outside and spread inwards into the church. Elton John also sang ‘Candle in the Wind’ at her service. Unforgettable. All of it. The Queen’s service was touching too. Incredible life of service. 💜
Thank you, you are very kind. M.

The funeral was phenomenal, Just absolutely beautiful, but her piper at the end and walking away playing her favorite music finished me for keeping composure! Most beautiful funeral I have ever seen. ❤️❤️😢😢❤️❤️
Definitely and Prince Phillips funeral was just as beautiful 💜
@Sarah that's very emotional
It was such a wonderful funeral. The scottish out did themselves with the bagpipes! God save the queen.! 🏴🏴🏴
Literally the bit that busted me. You just know it’s the end. The final farewell.
Just the pipes would've been moving enough. But him slowly walking away..... . So moving!!!! A beautiful and dignified farewell.
And just like that, The Lone Piper led Queen Elizabeth's soul to heaven.
No one does this better than the British. Absolutely beautiful, and yet soul wrenching at the same time.
A Scottish lament for King James 1V of Scotland 🏴 and those who fought alongside him on Flodden field….September 9th. 1513.

Bonjour,
He did such a beautiful job. This reminds me of my dad. Who was originally from Dunoon then moved to Canada. My father used to play with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders in Canada.
Very moving. Specially the fading away.. Imagine being woken up by a lone piper every morning, here in Scotland
as the Queen was.
long live the king!
Not just Scotland... Her Majesty was greeted by a Piper everywhere everyday...
I would have loved it. I do this for Woody.EXE’s arrival and he literally cries
Queen Elizabeth 11 was the best and so is this music.
Even a non-royalist like me teared up at the end. As a proud Scotsman, it was good to see the bagpipes see her to her final rest.
The pipes have been adopted by so many countries across the world. Their beauty and poignance is appreciated by people on all continents.
@@archiebald4717
I play several instruments, but think bagpipes would rank first as my favorite (even though this is not one that I play). I know of no other musical instrument that so instantly cuts to the heart, and that so poignantly stirs emotion. Knowing that the queen loved the pipes and awakened daily to a piper outside of her window makes this last farewell to her all the more stirring and sad.
For all different ideals and places of origin, Britain is stronger united and the bagpipes are a proud passionate instrument to represent the Scots with huge respect.
Beautiful symbolism: The lament fades as the piper slowly walks out the shadows into the sun light.
May she rest in light. Duty done.
Elizabeth the Devoted.
Your boys did a cracking job :)
The Most Beautiful Farewell...The fading sound of the pipes intertwined with Her Majesty's reign fading softly away into history.
Two Sugars .. Beautiful comment xx
Beautiful comment, indeed.
I go for Elvis…well, he had Scottish genes, so….
The bagpiper and his last farewell. The most touching and emotional moment of this funeral imho.

This was the moment for me, positively ethereal as the piper walked down the hall, it felt as if he was leading the Queen to heaven. As he turned the corner and the music faded it was the most poignant moment of the day. Just magnificent.
100% feel the same way. It’s was just beautiful.
Only time I cried throughout it all. Missed the subtlety of the coffin lowering! Had to play it back once eyes dried.
Scotland may wish to separate from the UK, but the Queen revered it above all places.
I hope they are able to compromise. If not, those entombed there may not end up resting in peace for long.
How that coffine loarded to underground
What is the mechanism of that
@@tharidu6792 I assume some kind if hydraulics but since it it an old chapel, could be a manual mechanism where someone turns a wheel to lower it. It was so slow I missed it the first time. I was concentrating on the piper and when they cut back to the chapel the coffin was gone! Had to replay it.
DIVERGENT Senior is that chaple is Underground?
Can people go to Royal chaple?
I don't know what it was, and I'm sure I'll never explain it, but for the first time in my entire life, after the deaths of so many celebrities, well known figures, Royals and people who had been in my life since I was a child; when I found out Queen Elizabeth II had passed away, I felt sick, adrift, and lost. I'm far from a Royalist, but I believe that with her, an era ended. Rest in peace ma'am. God Save the Queen.
Many of us felt that. Her majesty was all we knew. Savour every moment. Nothing lasts forever.
Me and my mother went out after the funeral and I just cried in my mothers arms when it was over. Everyone stopped to see it because it was so heartbreaking for my mother to do this in front of everyone but she’s always brave my mother
Funny you say that, I'm no Royalist either, but when The Queen died, I actually felt a loss in my heart and I couldn't explain why.
What a beautiful service! THANK YOU GREAT BRITAIN for keeping so much dignity and beauty in our world.
The final farewell, a lot of emotion, a lot of tradition, a lot of respect.Queen Elizabeth II the Queen of the century.
Thank you, Pipe Major Burns for that truly beautiful send off for her majesty. Your performance will stay with me till the day I pass. So very moving. God bless Lilibeth... and God bless you, sir.
Totally agree , the delivery of this piece of music is absolutely regal .
Which god?
It makes me sad how were all here and then just one day were not.
Even though I had no particular interest in the Royal Family or their activities, the thing with the Queen is that she was just a constant, and a symbol of stability, we've become so accustomed to her just being there and hearing this lone piper play and seeing the Queen lowered into the ground never to be seen again, not only makes you feel for her Majesty but all loved ones we've lost. Sad, haunting but beautiful at the same time, a fitting end to a most wonderful service.
So sad to see that very haunting but proud and noble send off for a remarkable person. Sad but beautiful. RIP Your Majesty. Now being with your parents, sister and husband.🇬🇧 🙏 🇬🇧

I'm not a Royalist, I'm a Humanist and this ending with the Piper was very spiritual and actually beautiful.
It felt like the Piper was leading her Soul from the coffin as she followed behind into the distance to her final resting place with God Almighty.
That was the finality befitting for such a Monarch without a blemish to her name in her entire 70 year Reign and 96 year life. 🙏

I truly believe that any Land that has had bloodshed, where a person/s last breath was taken should always be blessed in Jesus name.
This also gives sanctity for the many who's bodies could not be recovered especially in War Times.

What a beautiful powerful moment Elizabeth was truely queen of scots
one of the most touching moments of the whole funeral ritual.

Scottish is the same thing as British.
British= Scottish, English, N.Irish and Welsh.
The Scottish are British.
@@drrd4127 Yes I know... I'm referring directly to my father and mother....Dad Bognor Regis and mom from Edinburgh...
Being British is just holding a passport. Queen Elizabeth II is a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce and House Stuart. She is Scottish by blood. Elvis Pressley and 34 US presidents were Scots descent. The Scots volunteered for the Alamo and the term 'Gringo' comes from the Mexican army hearing them sing every night Robert Burns 'Green Grow the Rushes, O'.
@@drrd4127 Northern Irish aren’t British for a start

Wasn't this just the most moving tribute to Queen Elizabeth? Amazing.
Every morning our beloved Queen was woken by this piper. A fitting tribute played one last time
Splendid job by PM Burns. Few people realise how difficult it is to play at the funeral of someone you know. He was her personal piper who woke her each day with this tune.
And he's stayed on as Charles' piper
What a touching moment. I adored the queen of England. God bless you Ma'am.
Such a poignant event. And the bagpiper at the end was so magical. ♥
It made me cry. It was probably the most moving part of the entire funeral

We all knew this day would come, and yet we were never ready for when it did
This was an incredible day, one I never witnessed before, the pipes were truly from the heart. Very soulful and beautiful. Very fitting to the greatest Monarch.
The tune was written by Pipe Major Jimmy Banks 1st Battalion Scots Guards in memory of his Brother,I hadn't heard the tune before but what a haunting melody and Pipe Major Paul Burns played it on an excellent Bagpipe which added to the fitting Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 11.
May She Rest In Peace.
I hadn’t heard the tune before either. Apparently PM Jimmy Banks’ original title was ‘A Salute To Willie The Royal Fendersmith’. It was written as a memorial for his brother, Willie who died in an accident 30 years ago.
Jimmy Bank’s tune is really lovely and I can see why The Queen liked it. It is a beautiful tune, created out of the composer’s own personal experience of the loss of a loved one.
How fitting and how poignant, for this to be played at The Queen’s funeral.
I think ‘A Salute to Willie The Royal Fendersmith’ will now, justifiably, join the ranks of those other well known laments, traditionally played in times of grief (Flooers O The Forest, Sleep Dearie Sleep, and Amazing Grace).
