I just got these EX bad boys and already own the EQ. And I have to say.. these sound INCREDIBLY INSANE 😱 not only is it louder, but the bass is brutal and soundstage is so much deeper and fuller!! I waited until the Black Anthracite became available and got it last week and have been using it ever since. I love it. It is quite different from the EQ: the bass is more pronounced, there is more power and punch, and everything sounds "closer" to you in terms of placement of the voice and instruments. It's like you are sitting within the first 10 rows from the stage (or even on the stage) while it's more like you are sitting in the middle of the venue with the EQ. The EQ has more "space" while the EX sounds denser. Well, that's how I hear them, YMMV. As for the other features, the EX is definitely more comfortable. It sits flush and tight in your ears and does not at all move around doing strenuous physical activities, which makes it ideal for use at the gym or for running/hiking outdoors, which I do on a daily basis. I also like the controls are one less tap than with the EQ. I use large Comply foam tips so I get very good passive noise isolation and when combined with the ANC, it's very effective for blocking out noise. Due to the more snug fit of the EX than that of the EQ, the ANC also seems noticeably more effective. I don't really pay attention to people who say that the EX has poor ANC because, to me, with good passive noise isolation, the overall noise reduction is on par with the Sony WF-1000XM4s I had for a while and those were not comfortable at all. The EX is now my favorite set of earbuds but I'll still keep the EQ around. They are different enough but I get the sense that the EQ will slowly start gathering dust. The sound quality of the EX is so good that my Audeze LCDi4 may also end up getting very little usage for my daily trail runs on the mountains. I really love the LCDi4 with its open back design and sound for nature runs but going wireless and getting the snug and compact fit of the EX is more practical. The EX pretty much checks all the boxes for me. I do wish the case was smaller and I agree that it's not the most pocketable device. But, other than this little niggle, the EX is everything I wished for as an improvement over the EQ. I love it and expect it to be my main earphones for a long time to come.

Thanks, John. With regard to the wind noise on the EQ mentioned by another commenter - My concern is not with the performance of the mics when in a call in windy conditions, rather it’s their tendency to pick up and transmit wind noise when listening to music. The EQ perform really poorly in this regard. The Apple AirPods Pro have somehow cracked this problem and you can have ANC on in reasonably strong wind and you don’t get that awful whooshing sound that you get with the EQ. @@jonnymarkbeadle Don't know yet. I haven't had a chance to test them outside in the wind. But the noise canceling is better than anything I had so far. I got EQs in January but still struggle a little with the fit. I can’t just put them in my ears and forget about them like my old Sennheiser Momentum TW. After watching your video I have gone a bit mad and pre-ordered the EXs. Expecting them a week on Thursday!
Also how quickly do the earbuds charge? One of the main selling points of the Airpods Pro is that they charge so quickly, you can sit and watch the charge counter ticking up every few seconds..
The closest to that colour will be the Black Anthracite for now. I'm sure there will be special editions and seasonal colours to come in the future though. -John
I got my Beoplay EX a few weeks ago and love how they fit and sound! The only concern is the wear sensor; each earphone is equipped with a wear sensor and automatically cuts its power when removed, "without pausing music playback"; I thought the music should pause when removing them. I'll appreciate your feedback.
Color me excited!!!! The looks and paper specs are very appealing. I hope the app integration is solid. With B&O, the sound is typically the one thing I don't have to worry about. I own the Beoplay Portal and like them quite a bit but am not the biggest fan of the Beoplay HX (due to the questionable wear sensor and poor low end at max volume), which I sold. I was also not thrilled with the look of the EQ. I will 100% give these a try after waiting for a few reviews.
I have the portal as well ( mainly use it for Xbox) and whenever I use them on my ipad for music or movies, there's a massive difference between them and the HX, for some reason they just sound better. If only we could do Atmos via bluetooth (own a LG CX and I want atmos via headphones late at night).
I tried these and they just sound phenomenal, I just wish the ANC was more existent and the same goes with the Transparency mode. In the end I decided to return them, they're just priced about $100 too high in my opinion. I ended up going with the Sennheiser MTW3, they were a slight step down in sound quality but checked all the boxes everywhere else. I may revisit this if I could find them for a deal price as the sound on them is just amazing like always with B&O.
Hi John... "I think the best earphones I´ve ever heard"... Hmm... And in comparsion to the H95? I know the comparison is unfair - Over Ear versus In Ear - but I'm curious what your opinion is, you've heard them both...
Best in-ear earphones yes, my favourite are EX.....I'm still an over-ear kind of man. I tend to use earphones in public as they're discreet and convenient but at home it's all over-ear for me. In my experience bigger over-ear headphones always sound better. For outright sound quality I use Beoplay Portal at home or H95 as a treat in the store. -John
John out again with the velvety smooth super sexy videos that feature himself with some B&O around! Always makes for good watching, thank you once again!
I've been using them for a few weeks, the only downside is the ANC, when I've used AirPods Pro so far and since december 2nd heneration, the ANC in the EX is not even 50% of what AirPods offer, if you improve the ANC in the future, you'll make the perfect earpbuds. meanwhile I carry both and listen to music on EX only in quiet places.
Hi Staray, B&O are calling them 'next generation' earphones so I suppose they are the flagship. I like there is a choice between 2 solid pairs of earphones, if you don't mind the stem then EX are fabulous, for those who dislike it then EQ are still top performers. John
@@BangOlufsenManchester Right, that makes sense! In your opinion which one sounds better to you. I don’t mind a subjective answer hahaha. Was thinking about buying the EQ but if the EX sounds cleaner than I guess thats the one to pick.
@@staray1282 The EX are less fussy with the fit and a more effortless, particularly with the low frequencies thanks to the larger drive unit. If I was picking between the two , personally I would go EX. - John

Great thoughts at the end John! I’m exactly where you are when it comes to replacing the EQ with the EX. I just can’t get my head around that stem. I don’t want it. The protruding part of the earbuds of the EQ is already more than enough. I wish B&O were able to shrink the size but I’m not going to replace my EQ with the EX. I still think it was the E8 3rd Gen that had the cleanest design. If the EQ disappears without a similar replacement, then I’ll use my EQ for as long as the stem is around. Otherwise H95 most of the time anyway. I get it that the EX is a great choice for some, I’ll pass this time.
Hey Csaba, I suppose it's tough to cram electronics and good batteries into such tiny cases. I was the same as you and really didn't like stem earphones.....until I popped EX in my ears! John
@@BangOlufsenManchester That's indeed a huge challenge. I am sure B&O has put a lot of effort into the development of the EX and weighed many things before going with option A, B or C. But it is also B&O and the product has to have a certain appeal. To me these are sadly not appealing enough to even try them for their sound (seldom I say that about a B&O product if ever). When it comes to sound, I will always go with the H95, and for the use case that earphones cover (for me) the EQ and my older E8 Sports are perfectly adequate. I will still love B&O, just not this product :/. As for your review, I think it was very thorough as always! Thank you for making it!
@@ichigokurosaki9117 In terms of frequency response they will both cover 20Hz, as low as you can hear. H95 will have more control being a much larger driver in an over ear design.
Mine arrived yesterday! Have been using them for past 24 hours. Wow. If you are thinking about getting these, just do it. I have the EQs and got these mainly because I struggle to maintain a secure fit with those. The way the EXs fit is vastly superior. I have large ears and after trying the medium tips, swapped them for the large size which give a better seal. As John says, they are much easier to just pop in your lugs and they stay put without having to push them deep into the ears. The sound quality is about as good as you can get. I was listening to some Miles Davis last night and it sounded like he was standing next to me. I will say though that both the noise-cancellation and transparency modes are, to my ears, not quite as effective as on the EQs. They work, but they are subtle. Not a dealbreaker for me but something to be aware of if that is a priority. Wind noise is still picked up as per the EQs but not as loudly, probably because the transparency mode is not quite as clear. The case is matt-finished and not as slippery as the EQ case which is a good thing. I dropped my EQ case onto concrete the day after I got it due to a combination of cold hands and a mirror-smooth surface. Overall, the EXs are much more practical and again, as John says, the bass-response is deep and effortless. If you are deciding between the two models, it’s a no-brainer, get the EXs. If you already have the EQs, if finances allow, I would still consider upgrading.
@@hameedfazal1463 Hi Hameed. The blue colour is really nice. This is the colour I would pick if all were available now. The case is slightly thicker and wider than the EQ case but not quite as long. It is easily pocketable.
Ive got Sennheiser ear buds.they are truly awesome. I don’t believe that these will be superior. Id have to try them to believe before i buy. Plus i get up to 9 hours of play from my Sennheiser ear buds
I've recently bought the EX's and I've issue why people around me can hear what I'm listening to? I've tested my Jabra 75t Active and in them I did not have that problem. They are both in-ear buds.
I'm very happy with the EQ's and I get a great fit and noise isolation (coupled with ANC) with large Comply tips so I don't *NEED* the EX's but I'll have to consider them if there is a noticeable difference in sound quality or character. These should also be better for gym and outdoor activities although EQ's have worked out fine for me. I've also never been a fan of the AirPods stem design but these do look somewhat better. Not what I need now but I do *want*!
@@SigmaFish The EQs are definitely on the big side but I guess I have large ear canals. I can get them to sit nearly flush with my ears and I can wear them comfortably for hours on end.
I bought the H95 weeks ago the sound blow me away i also own the EQ the sound no nearly as good as h95 i wonder how EX compare to h95 in terms of sound & bass
Thanks John for another great video. One question I had re: the EX earphones is how do they perform in windy conditions. One issue I’ve been experiencing with the EQs recently is the mics seem to be very sensitive to wind. This is particularly frustrating when ANC is turned on. So was curious if the stem design of the EX maybe resolves this issue. Was also wondering if B&O offer a trade-in scheme for their IEMs?
I was personally very impressed with the mic performance. Outside in the wind I didn't have too many issues. No mic is perfect in those conditions though. Probably the best in ear mics I've used though. John
$399 US EX design looks very Anker and Soundpeats which kinda disappointment but as I hear about John, he had same comments about EX and now it really change my thinking how honest John is. I now want to try them and see if it is really worth paying $399. Thanks for honest comments John, you really change my thought on the EX.
Could you be so kind and draw a comparison between these and the AirPods Pro. In currently use the ladder and don’t see a difference except for price and sound quality. I previously owned the H5 which had great sound quality but were just inconvenient to use because of their size and weight
Just purchased my pair a few days ago, sadly I think I received a defective pair, getting very very bad connectivity issues while wearing them at the gym in a crowded area, pretty much useless. I would leave to a none crowded area and it would go away. I will be re-buying them again! Just one more time, if the same issues persist sadly I will return them and go elsewhere. 🤞🏼
Sorry no, Anthracite Oxygen, Black Anthracite and Gold Tone are the only colours. There may be more later on but Nordic Ice was a 2021 Winter special edition.
Hey John, great video as always. Just wondering, how well are the EX’s ANC compared to the EQ’s ANC. Personally, the EQ for me is barely useable during windy condition and ANC isn’t that great. Also you only mention about the bass being more effortless but how about the clarity, mid-highs? Looking forward to your reply.
Ya I would also say the noise cancellation goes in an out meaning it fads in and out. it doesn’t stay very strong. I personally don’t think it does a great job of cutting out outside noises .I do landscaping and they’re uncomfortable to use when around noise because they don’t cancel out all that much. I love the sound though, The sound and the fit and the look are amazing best bass I have ever heard in the cleanest. Can’t wait to try the new ones out with the bigger subwoofer.
Got mine on pre order. I had the Google pixel buds pro which I returned. They were quite good with sound nice and loud too & the bass was BASS! but the fit wasn't good for My ears because they stuck out too much from my ears.. looking like Frankenstein 🤣 so I decided to go with these for a slimmer profile. I hope they deliver the sound that they claim to have. For me it's ok if they don't have the best ANC or transparency mode. I just want a nice crystal clear sound with deep bass if that makes any sense
Every time I charge the headphones to 100% and take them out out of the case, the battery charge indicator for the right ear-tip falls straight to 94-95%. For the left ear-tip the app states 99%. This happens within 10 seconds. Do you also observe this behaviour with your EX?
These earphones do look good, but I will stick with my headphones thanks. I just don't like any earphones because they all inevitably start to get uncomfortable after wearing them for a while and the guaranteed bass that you get from headphones is unreliable with earphones because they move around. Great video though John - you are a pro
Sir Beefers! Good to see you in the comments section as always. I'm a over ear kinda man too so I get you. I do like earphones when in public though. - John
The driver size is interesting as that is the same driver size of B&W's dynamic driver in their latest earphones. They are also known for incredible bass so is it possible B&W are providing the drivers to B&O?
I have something to say about this product, because I own the Beoplay H95 too, and I can agree that it doesn’t g have the same user friendly interface as Apple ecosystem, and the noise cancellation is not that strong compared to the AirPods Pro and another player in the market. But I need to point something, the noise cancellation on this device is way more natural and way way less intrusive, the comfort from this is night and day better then Apples, and the most important is, the sound quality on this is night and day better.
Hello John, thanks for this review! Not a lot of material out there so great to here some first hand experience. Considering the codecs, I am wondering - do you think that future updates could potentially include aptx lossless or alac. I am wondering from a hardware/software perspective, do you think this would be feasible?
I have this for over a month now and I can say they are not worth 350£ at all,ANC is a good but when active the wind will be very noisy, battery life is about 4h with ANC and transparency mode off,not so comfortable after 2h I can feel them. The only good thing about them is the sound quality and that's about it. Two thirds of the price is the brand
interesting opinion I find my pair to be fine in wind and I live in Manchester which is a very windy place. not sure I agree with your analogy of the price if you take two thirds of the price from these headphones we would be at quite a low bar in quality, and you actually state the sound quality is good. So if this is the case what is the issue??

I agree with you the same thing I bought eq in dicembre but I have a big difficulty to wearing them after 15 minutes come outside i traied every thing to getting confortevoli but nothing goust yourself them at home no sports I very interesting to know how about fit and I will ordere them for 30 day's to prove and will see.
He says Ex my number 1 now.
I got EQs in January but still struggle a little with the fit. I can’t just put them in my ears and forget about them like my old Sennheiser Momentum TW. After watching your video I have gone a bit mad and pre-ordered the EXs. Expecting them a week on Thursday!
I'm also an EQ owner and I immediately bought these because the EQ's fit also bothers me!
Also how quickly do the earbuds charge? One of the main selling points of the Airpods Pro is that they charge so quickly, you can sit and watch the charge counter ticking up every few seconds..

Great review! 💪🏼
Nice video thanks John 👍. Colour wise I was personally a fan of the charcoal sand of the first E8's, so would love to see them in that colour
The closest to that colour will be the Black Anthracite for now. I'm sure there will be special editions and seasonal colours to come in the future though. -John
@@BangOlufsenManchester thanks John, nice to hear from you. Take care and keep up the informative and honest reviews 😀.
One question... When will these be released in the US? I have the EQs and love them. Can't wait to bring these into the fold.
-John
@@BangOlufsenManchester Thank you for your very quick reply...
Fix the ANC and transparency modes..
Would it be better than airpods pro , for my iPhone ? what would be the pro's of this one ? Thanks .
Also great review. loved it
Man obviously these are better in every aspect than apple's crap called airpods pro.
Hey John, is the EX the new flagship or is the EQ still the flagship, just like how H95 is the flagship not HX.
- John
@@BangOlufsenManchester can you please compare the max volume and bass between the two. The eq are a little lacking in bass even after tweaking the equalizer, are these able to hit a bit harder and louder? Does eq adjustment increase the bass?
Should I get these or are you guys going to release a new model this year? I don’t want to feel like I should have waited for the EXI or whatever it’s going to be called in a month or two. 😅
I can honestly say at this moment I know of no replacement on the road map.
@@BangOlufsenManchester sweet! I ordered the ex yesterday. I can’t wait to get them 😃
Thank you, single tap for the win! I just wish the off-white color was available now! I still can’t get the the track controls to work on the Eq but these work great! Just wished for a little better battery life and better anc! Other than that I might get another pair because I enjoy them! Please add a single tap options just like the Ex for the EQ!
Awesome vid, and exciting new product from B&O!
But in order to replace my AirPods Pro. Do they have a transparancy mode?
They do indeed.
@@BangOlufsenManchester and how does it Sound. Is it as natural as their HX and Portal Headphones, which i have?
@@alexanderulv3886 Yes, all tuned by the same people and have that natural B&O sound signature. I also have Portal so I could do a direct comparison at home. John
@@BangOlufsenManchester please do my good sir😍
@@csaba5415 Nothing wrong with that Csaba, you're spoiled with H95! You're right, EQ and E8 are still perfectly good earphones.
@@BangOlufsenManchester does H95 still have deeper bass than EX?
How is the blue colour in person and is the case as easy to pocket as the eqs
@@hameedfazal1463 Hi Hameed. The blue colour is really nice. This is the colour I would pick if all were available now. The case is slightly thicker and wider than the EQ case but not quite as long. It is easily pocketable.
@@DavidSmith-uk5ci thank you so much torn between the ex and eq and the case was my big worry for every day carry
I'm hoping B&O EQ 2.0 This year cause I love the design of the EQ
Eq will be gone. If you look at the spec, this ex will surely replace eq.
@@T17-r6i I still have my EQ well I have to wait for next year to upgrade my EQ To B&O flagship
They are both in-ear buds.
what will the next earbuds you make? It’s already been 6 months since beoplay EX released
Personally, I found the shape of EQ is too big and mostly leaves some aches on my ear after a long journey (1-2 hr).
@@SigmaFish The EQs are definitely on the big side but I guess I have large ear canals. I can get them to sit nearly flush with my ears and I can wear them comfortably for hours on end.
@@alexkhan2000 agreed orlok. Same for me & i wear them up to 4-6 hour sessions.
Do you think the next earbud release with noise canceling will have ear wings?
would be nice wouldn't it
When will the EX be in store?
I got my first batch today but they were all pre orders and I'm sold out again. Should have some more next week. John
I bought the H95 weeks ago the sound blow me away i also own the EQ the sound no nearly as good as h95 i wonder how EX compare to h95 in terms of sound & bass
I am using the EX just now and they are amazing as good as my H95 just a different experience.
Y the hell I went for AirPods Pro 2 before these! These are remarkable just got mines today 🤩
Well at least you ended up with the right choice...
Thanks to the detailed review. For the earphones, Beoplay EX is the cheapest-looking B&O earphones ever. I feel disappointed :(
I made that mistake and judged them on the photos. In the flesh they are really nice and feel very premium. John
Is that B&O Wireless earbuds flagship this year?
Do they have the feature to use the casing as a transmitting device? to use in airplanes with a 3.5jack to usb c cable.
When will they be available to try in store?
Very soon here. My stock is slightly delayed, I had to borrow the pair featured in the video. John
I cant find them anywhere online mate, can you ship to Saudi Arabia?
How is the call quality in a noisy environment?
Been looking for them I can’t find them anywhere😭😭
They are restocked on UK B&O website a little while ago! Get them asap!
They have been very popular and sell out quickly. As soon as I got my stock they were sold straight away. Hang in there it'll get better! John
Hi John, may I know is there Nordic ice colour for EX?
Sorry no, Anthracite Oxygen, Black Anthracite and Gold Tone are the only colours. There may be more later on but Nordic Ice was a 2021 Winter special edition.
@@BangOlufsenManchester Thank you!
How does the ANC compare to the Airpods Pro?
How does it grip the inner ear?
Hey John l,like you honestly opinion you Rock dude
Thanks Rene.
Is the case waterproof, or is it just the earbuds that are waterproof?
just the earphones
Only earbuds.
Works spatial audio on the Ex ?
Hey i was wondering what size is the comply tip that came in with the beoplay ex? ( S / M / L ) ?
I suspect it’s M
Do the EQ have wear detection too?
Yes they do
how are they comparing to the sony ?
Tarkan got one as well
Are these better than the EQ for smaller ears?
Absolutely yes
Can they play HiRes streaming using iPhone iOS?
How much?
Is the EX going to replace the EQ?
No, for now they will run side by side.
Bought a month ago, done an update last week, now don't work when calling or incoming calls, Bluetooth isn't working
oh no have you tried to re set them
This guy’s accent sounds cute 🥰
I'm originally from a place called Stoke On Trent in the UK, that's where my accent comes from. Thanks 👍
Why can't I download the App to my digital audio player?
Is your audio player an apple or android device??
@@BangOlufsenManchester, it's a sony walkman nw a306 which is Android . Also they don't seem to go that loud?
Honesty, I LITERALLY just bought the eq's less than a month ago. Do these sound that much better than them ? Especially with the new 9.2mm drivers?
Wait for flossy Carter to review them
Nothing wrong with EQ, I have them too. I'll also be interested to see if Flossy knocks the EQ off his top spot for the EX. Love his reviews. -John
I will say the eq (when I tried it) did have connection issues (why I returned them), so....maybe these will improve that?
- John
Compair with sony wf4 the sound which one better?
Can one change the keybinds of these (in Windows), e.g. to attach them to UA-cam controls ?
The driver size is interesting as that is the same driver size of B&W's dynamic driver in their latest earphones. They are also known for incredible bass so is it possible B&W are providing the drivers to B&O?
Does it have multipoint?
Yes
I have something to say about this product, because I own the Beoplay H95 too, and I can agree that it doesn’t g have the same user friendly interface as Apple ecosystem, and the noise cancellation is not that strong compared to the AirPods Pro and another player in the market.
But I need to point something, the noise cancellation on this device is way more natural and way way less intrusive, the comfort from this is night and day better then Apples, and the most important is, the sound quality on this is night and day better.
Now this is the one ☝️. Can’t find a price tag of it anywhere though!
In the UK they are £349

Hello John, thanks for this review! Not a lot of material out there so great to here some first hand experience. Considering the codecs, I am wondering - do you think that future updates could potentially include aptx lossless or alac. I am wondering from a hardware/software perspective, do you think this would be feasible?
Bring back Nordic Ice to this release
John can sell me ocean water in a Food Flask and i wont question him , He is so calm and genuine with his reviews... Bless Up Mr John
