Very good point about finding the right size ear tips for each ear. I always use Comply foam tips with medium size for my right ear and large size for my left to get the perfect seal in both ears. The Beoplay EQ I received came with a set of foam tips but they are medium size so I'm using one in my right and a large silicone tip in the left. Sounds great but I know it will sound even better with better sound isolation and ANC performance when I receive the Comply foam large size to use in my left ear.
I know that some people - like my wife - do not like their ear canals stuffed with ear tips that feel tight but I can't emphasize enough how important a good seal is for the best possible sound as well as getting the most out of the ANC performance. The bass response improves greatly and everything sounds fuller and bigger while retaining the high-end clarity. I know that silicone tips tend to feel more comfortable but I always use the foam tips even if they make the ears feel a little "stuffy".
BTW, the Beoplay EQ sounds pretty amazing and I'm an audiophile with super expensive headphones like the Abyss AB-1266 Phi TC and RAAL SR1a driven by Chord Electronics TOTL DACs and amps as well as Audeze LCDi4 and JH Audio Layla custom IEM for wired mobile usage. I already own the Sennheiser MTW2 and the Sony WF-1000XM4 and, *to me*, it's no contest. The Beoplay EQ is clearly superior in almost every way in terms of sound quality. And, for my ears, it's also the most comfortable. Sometimes I'd use it for 4+ hours straight and not feel any discomfort at all. That has not been the case with other earbuds I've tried. They'd always start feeling uncomfortable after about an hour of use. Not sure what it is but it seems that the geometry of the Beoplay EQ's casing just conforms to the shapes of my ears.
I do hope that B&O will add the skip/back track function with a future firmware update. The touch control for adjusting volume level is also finicky and difficult to set to the exact desired setting so I often just use the phone to adjust it. As of now, the Beoplay EQ is a no-go for gym usage because of these shortcomings since the phone is zipped up in my belt fanny pack during workouts. For now, I'm sticking with the Sony XM4 for gym usage but I really don't care for its sound signature and will soon try the M&D MW08 Sport and hopefully I can replace the XM4.
Overall, the Beoplay EQ is really fantastic set of ANC earbuds. I'm an extremely demanding listener with summit-fi gear that adds up to the cost of midsize luxury car and Beoplay EQ does not leave me wanting more. The same goes for the H95 that has now supplanted my APM. I just jive with the B&O sound signature in the way that Abyss house sound jived with me. To me, they sound similar in that they are very expansive sounding with a huge soundstage that stretches wide, high and deep. The imaging and the placement of the different instruments in their own respective locations is something I've never heard in a set of earbuds before. The resolution is excellent - almost to the point of being analytical but in a good way.
The B&O sound is not the warm, rich, lathery and intimate type. It's pristine, balanced, neutral, clear and spacious and that isn't for everyone. I just prefer the latter and I've owned audiophile headphones like the Audeze LCD-4 and LCD-3 that would be categorized in the former. It's really a matter of personal taste. It's best to try out in person to find out if the sound signature is right for you as well as the physical fit. Everyone's ears are different and we also hear things differently. One man's honey is another's poison. At this level, there really isn't the "best" but finding what works the best for you. Fortunately for me, the Beoplay checks all the boxes. I just wish the functionality will improve a little more and it'd be virtually perfect - *for me*, at least...
Loving the feature of just using one earbud, it only works with the right one on the older E8's. Like the case a lot more too! Great video as per usual!

I demo'd my Beoplay EQ for my wife and she was stunned by the sound quality and she has obviously listened through all my audiophile gear but she always preferred the convenience of wireless. I got her the Audeze LCDi4 IEM for her personal use and the Abyss Diana Phi audiophile headphones to use in the bedroom but she hardly ever uses them. She doesn't like being tethered to wires. Based on her reaction to the Beoplay EQ, I had to get sand colored one for her and it arrived two days after I ordered it through the B&O site. She absolutely loves it/
We had always admired B&O products from afar but their speakers are a little too "luxury" for us at this point in time so it's good for us to get started with these earbuds. I'll be getting her the silver or gold tone H95 as well to complement my black one when we can start taking flights together again.

I watched a review a few months ago about the Bowers & Wilkins Pi7s and bought them right after with no disappointment. The sound quality was insane and the bass was refined and powerful. But I did have some problems:
1) The bluetooth connection was shaky at times over longterm use. If my phone was angled a certain way in my pocket, I would drop connection easily.
2) You can only go from Noise Cancellation to Neutral by tapping the left earbud. I feel that it should go towards Transparency instead (which wasn't even that good) so you could talk to someone if needed.
3) The case.... Oh the case... I've never been so disappointed by the build quality of something so expensive and premium. It felt flimsy and absorbed every knick and scratch from quite literally anything. I purchased the white pair and not but two months in it looks like it went to war and back.
After watching this review, I made a purchase of the Beoplay EQ's to see if they could address all of my concerns from the Pi7s and man did they impress! Build quality is insane! I feel like it is an experience every time I open the case. Beyond that, it has a reasonable transparency mode and solid bluetooth connection.
They do need to update the touch controls to include skipping tracks and a voice assistant but these sins are forgiven with the job they have done everywhere else.
Pair them with the Comply tips and you have something that comes close to the Sony Noise Cancellation - not quite but close! I ended up ordering a set of large pairs from their website because the medium pair was not quite the best fit.
I really wanted to write this for those that are comparing between the Bowers & Wilkins and these. GO GO GO for the Beoplay EQ's! You won't regret it. I loved this sound so much that I purchased the H95s (Bang & Olufsen's top tier over ears) immediately and also stunned by their performance.

Hi, great review. I need to reiterate what was said above. The B&W PI7’s are unfortunately poorly manufactured. I think I tried 4 pairs of these, one of which lasted 3 months before the usbc connection broke in the case. I really did like their sound, but there is no substitute for quality. I have bought the EQ’s since and a Beolit 20. Thank you Amazon for amazing deals saving a combined £200 off the RRP. I am delighted with the B&O products - it’s the sound and quality of manufacturing that makes them so special.

I purchased a pair of Bose QuietComfort earbuds about a month ago, and even though I like them, I can now clearly see that I’ve made a mistake and should’ve rather purchased the B&O EQ earbuds. I absolutely love & appreciate quality workmanship in a product, and I can see that the B&O EQ definitely has it. I now have to find someone who will purchase my Bose earbuds, unless you wanna send me a complimentary pair of B&O EQ earbuds so that I can tell everyone about them. I'm not usually given over to hubris but these are great. I've just listened to War of the Worlds and the detail is amazing. I've listened to Beethoven and its just as clear. I've listened to Kraftwerk and its the same. Anything you throw at it will be amazing. It's what I would expect for equipment valued in the hundreds. The app is great as well. The tops are sharp, the bass is there but not too much and the mids are clear and distinct. Buy these!! You won't be disappointed!!

@@BangOlufsenManchester Great to have your feedback. Having lived with them for a few months I'd like to offer some further thoughts. I've listened to Elton John's 'Blue Moves" and I was very impressed with the shimmering quality of the strings and the balance between left and right channels. I imagine it comes pretty close to what Elton and the band heard though the studio speakers back in the day. I've also reviewed 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' and 'Captain Fantastic' and the results are similar. Crisp, clear mandolins and piano. Non-invasive bass and Elton's voice sounds as if he is in the same room, to the point you can even hear his tongue click!
compare to E8 the EQ has better bass and of course, they still keep their signature sound well balanced. I was thinking to buy B&W PI7, but just can't turn away of B&O product as sorry i am a B&O fan. have to look at their design and quality and not much company can do that. I compared B&W PI7 to B&O EQ, it'sAU$50 difference as B&O bit expensive. but B&O uses better material for their case as always no mentioned the alumni this time when you touch it and feels so smooth. thank you for sharing the video!
Hi. I really liked your comparison. I have the jabra 85t and i want to upgrade to the next level. Also, i am really disappointed from the call quality of the 85t. Everyone tells me that there is a lot of background noise and they can not hear me !!! all the time !!! I can not understand why the 85t have good anc for me (so i hear everyone clear and clear music) but there is not anc for the other end. So they can also hear only me and not my scrounging. I realy like to hear from you how the eq on call quality. I am talking aboute a situation when i am near a road with cars or in the mall and people talking. Everyday use basically. Thanks man 😁

Great video as always John! With support for ANC and also the functionality to use either right/left earbud independent of one another, it sounds like Beoplay EQ earphones are a decent improvement over the already excellent E8s. I do have one question re: the Beoplay EQ earphones:
1. Do the BeoPlay EQ earphones support multipoint audio e.g. can you pair the earphones with multiple devices. If you were listening to music on your lap for example and you received a phone call, the EQ earphones would then pause the audio from the laptop and switch to your phone so you can answer the call?

I have a pair of E8 Motions, love them for sound but the wingtips do start to dig into the ear/feel uncomfortable after 45 minutes or so. Hoping this design is an improvement, also excited for ANC!

Hi Antonius. ANC is most effective at constant background noise. Sudden noise is somewhat suppressed by the passive noise cancelling but ANC cannot react that quickly.
Made for iPhone" means that an electronic accessory has been designed to connect specifically to iPhone and has been certified by the developer to meet Apple performance standards.

I wonder if i have e8 3rd and you say that it is very close sounds quality can the noise cancellation be a game changer and reason to upgrade? E8 3rd is very light and fits perfectly. What is comfort in eq? I use it for jogging and listening music. E8 sport seemed to me a bit worse sound

@@nikoskomninos7158 I am using TrueGrip™ TW-400-C in medium, luckily I had a few of these left over from previous earbuds & they fit perfectly! Ordered another batch as well. I use the PI7’s in the gym 6 days a week, 2 hrs a day, with the memory foam tips they have easily become my favourite for the gym! The comfort & sound quality are EXCELLENT I hear nothing but the quality music with ANC on in the gym; & they NEVER move out of place through vigorous lifting or cardio. These are literally my favourite true in ear wireless earphones and I own well over 10 others.. considering buying another pair in white as well! ComplyFoam tips add an additional improvement of a solid 15% all around in music quality as well as ANC improvement. They change from magic to magical! Cheers.

@@nikoskomninos7158 I mostly use it in the gym with my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and Apple’s lossless audio - zero complaints. I think they sound very good even with Apple’s audio. That shouldn’t be a concern. The bass is so nice, deep and clean, feels like a proper sub in your head, not overpowering but just perfect and the rest of the instruments and vocals are dialled in to perfection. There is zero distortion, just an overall very pleasant sound signature. You won’t have any regrets if you enjoy excellent sound quality. Definitely helps me squeeze out a few extra sets & reps in the gym. They are so comfortable I forget they are even in my ears. The only thing they can improve on is the app, and maybe battery life; but those aside this is a superb product imho.
@@nikoskomninos7158 Another thing I’d like to mention on iPhone go to the EQ setting and set it to Electronic. For some reason this EQ setting on iPhone sounds the best to me regardless of what kind of music you listen to. I really enjoy the sound.

Very similar to be honest, they all use the same tips. If you have used one of the older models before and liked them you will love EQ.
Great review! But could you please show how to tap ;) I’m not pro in that and I can’t use these tapping functions. I have the big headphones and never had problems with tapping
One correction, the other Beoplay e8 can use just the right bud, but these you can just use the left.
Hey John! Hope you’re well and had a good summer! :) Great walkthrough as always! My biggest concern with the E8 series is that they tend to become unreliable after a while, and sooner than I’d expect. It could also be because of when or how much I use them. I alter a lot between earphones and headphones, and in my experience headphones are always much more reliable even after months of not using them. I’ve had a dead E8 charging case replaced, earbuds not connecting at all, and most recently my E8 Sport seem to have died. The right earbud was 100% charged while the left one was completely drained and not charging at all even if I’ve kept both charged at all times. This must be because of me having used the right one only without taking the left one out of the case over several months. There seems to be a pattern across several generations of E8s where if I do not use the earphones for a few months at all, then they might stop working altogether. I.e. I had them fully functional and charged in January, then I was using only headphones until April, then I charged the E8 again to pick them up again, and inspite of a recharge they were completely dead. Because of this I am prepared that if I get myself a pair of EQs which I now need since I’m without any earphones for the moment, then these might stop working if I don’t use them actively all the time. It is sad because I’ve been consuming them as if they were clothes. Not very environmental… :/. With that said though, I still maintain that the E8 has been a fantastic product and I’ve loved using them. They work very well when they work :). But I also had a question. B&O claim that the EQ can be used comfortably while resting on a pillow. This has always been a problem for me since the E8 do indeed become uncomfortable while I am resting on the pillow. Have you tested this? Do they feel/are they actually more compact than the E8? I do find the upgrades in the EQ attractive enough so I’ll probably get a pair some time this year. Until then my H95 will keep me good company :).
Good to see you in the comments. I forgot to mention, they recommend that you charge them at least every 14 days to keep the batteries healthy. My E8 first gen still work fine although the battery isn't quite what it used to be it's still very useable. Unfortunately batteries have a finite number of charging cycles before they start to degrade and hold less charge.

About the pillow test of the EQ I also asked above: have you had a chance to test how comfortable they are when resting on a pillow with the earbud in your ear?

Is the sound a big upgrade from the Bose quietcomfort earbuds?
Thanks for video. I have massive ears and not all earbuds fit well. Have had Sennheiser Momentum TW first generation for almost three years. They fit perfectly, but having battery issues and am considering upgrading to B&O eq. On the B&O website, unlike other headphones etc, this product does not specify a 30 day trial. Does your store allow trying for fit? It’s a 100 mile round trip but would be worthwhile to decide between these and HX over-ears. Cheers in advance.

I own the 3rd gen E8 and not gonna lie, im a bit sad the case isnt leather anymore :( its soft and firm at the same time, so comfortable to hold

I've just got EQ. I found some problems about ANC
1. When traveling in the train, My EQ make a little weird noise into my ears (my old Sony XM3 ANC never make a weird noise)
2. My EQ randomly swithing to transparency mode itself. Adaptive option disabled and no accidental touch at all.
Anyone knew how to fix these issues?
Overall It's a good pair, but these annoying issues cause bad experience.
Doesn't worth $400 at all, actually with the war going on and the economy crisis drop, such things no longer a priority to consumers, it will lead this B&O model to dust on the stores shelves for longer time, and on day they will sell it for $50 and still no one will buy it.
They really should have, or at least add, touch for track control, skip to next, go back to previous, rewind, fast forward, stop, and play, to rest of touch controls, and that would really quite possibly make them best ear buds overall, hands down, no question
I agree, I miss the track skip but that was sacrificed by making all other controls at least a double tap to activate. This makes it more difficult to accidentally input commands while fitting or adjusting them in your ear. You gain in one way but loose in another.
How long the battery life?? And how can Battery be Replaced??

Just asking.I have been considering beoplay e8 sport or beoplay eq, but I want to use it while I am biking. Which one you think is the best option
For intense biking in all weather I would perhaps suggest the E8 Sport, it's exactly what they were made for plus the added fin will keep them more secure in your ears.
I'm kind of thinking that these aren't replacing the E8s 3rd Gen (like you said by using the word "predecessor", makes it sound like they are replacing the E8s) but I've heard that these are sitting as a whole new line of earbuds kind of like how you have the Airpods (like the E8s) and the Airpods Pros (like the EQs). Just my thoughts and what I've heard.
They have replaced E8 3rd gen as they are now discontinued. The E8 Sport will continue for now.

Can you skip tracks with the touch controls?
will there be an update to increase volume? compared to my APP or PI7s they don’t get as loud. and i’m not deaf or one of those people who plays music at egregiously loud volumes either. my airpods max almost never go above 75DB, the fact that i have to nearly max these out to get the same volume is a bit of a bummer
75 db only? My airpods pro maxes out at 109 decibels 😂

Hey, i just bought these, but none of the eartips stay in my ear, all of them drop out, the airpods pro and airpods i had really fit well, i was able to run, do exercises and they didnt even move, but these are just horribly uncomfortable, maybe im putting them wrong in my ear… please help me

I've never had the pleasure of hearing Beyerdynamic but I have heard some Sennheiser headphones over the years and been very impressed with some of them. They have been around for a long time and are one of the big players in the headphone world and often get very well reviewed.. John

I just bought the B&O EQ and I have a problem with right airbud. After I did the last updated the right airbud not working. There is light white flash flashing 35second interval with the sound coming from the inside the bud. I tried to reset the airbuds but impossible. The beo app shows just the lift airbud and case. Any help plzz 🙏

I would think the bigger drivers would add greater efficiency at lower frequencies and possibly add more bass extension (I.e. not a “bass boost”, but the ability to reproduce lower frequencies).
Also, I’m curious about how the ANC on/off benefits transparency mode and call quality. B&O specifically called-out the use of a dedicated ANC IC instead of using the integrated functionality of the Qualcomm chip. I’d like to know the benefits of this approach.
Any feedback/observations on these?
The EQ were perhaps very slightly more defined in thier sound but not a massive difference to be honest (to me anyway). The E8 sound really solid so it's no bad thing. Both already go down well into the subsonic frequencies.
I'll have to test calls with the ANC on/off. I think I made calls mostly with ANC on or I really liked the own voice feature.
@@BangOlufsenManchester The e8’s don’t compare with my H9i’s in terms of frequency range and sound reproduction (nor should they). The two are very different and have different use cases. With that stated, I use large comply foam tips for a tight seal with my e8 v2’s. They definitely don’t go down as low as the H9i’s. If you are stating the EQ’s are the same as the v3’s (which are similar to the v2’s), then I’d expect the EQ’s to not go into the subsonic frequencies (at least for me). That’s unfortunate. The other added features though are very much positives.
I will also add the when my H5’s were operational, they too had better bass than the e8’s. I gladly traded the wire away for the convenience of the form factor change though (and hoped for eventual improvements with the e8’s bass).
Can I use this with airpod pro connected to 1 iPhone?
If these were 300 I would buy them, since that is my budget, sure I could save up another couple weeks, but I don't feel comfortable spending that much on earbuds
Same for me. I bought my wife the sennheiser momentum 2's for Christmas and the sound, quality, features and customization is right on par for the price point. I simply can't get myself to pull the trigger on the B&O's with less funtionality for twice what I paid for the S2.

I can’t believe people are OK with this, I want my earbuds to sound exceptional but I also want to be able to skip and rewind tracks as well as use a voice assistant and for $400 I’d be stupid to pay that price without those options.
Are they LOUDER than e8 3rd gens, with the slightly bigger drivers? I often crave more sound pressure with volume 100%.. 🤔
From my listening not really but I'm not a lover of super loud music, I want to keep my ears in good working order for as long as I can 🙂. Sometimes it's limited by the headphones and also the device you're playing from. I found these and E8 to be about the same.
@@BangOlufsenManchester I currently own the E8 3rd Generation would you say these EQ have a noticeable improvement in sound quality? I find the E8 to be great sounding I just don't like the hissing they make at low sound levels and the connectivity isn't great... Any help would be greatly appreciated. how do i connect to my laptop, it only shows LE Beoplay EQ and Beoplay EQ Case , even if I connect with both, the sound wont come from the buds,
You need to connect to the case not the headphone its hard to do or help remotely sorry

I think mine might be fault after 2 days from new…..right ear bud has intermittent interference and popping and hissing during speech …..😒
Contact who you bought them from or Bang & Olufsen support, if there is a fault they should get replaced. John

What's exactly wrong with shakes and fries? After a while, we all want to give our palette something different to sample. I used to eat peanut butter hamburgers. I have been so greatly disappointed by your range of e8 earbuds. I bought the original e8's that broke within 12 months, then i bought the 2.0 version and the charger case broke after 15 months, and some months later the earbuds themselves. Soundquality is great, build quality is horrible though. For the pricetag I expect so much more.. we are not even taking about intensive use.. i use them for about 5 hours per week in the gym, thats all..

I have a pair myself, it was mildly annoying at first but now I'm used to the missing skip controls. It makes the other controls better and you're less likely to press them by mistake as all controls now need at least a double tap. I've been very happy with them but I understand why it's annoying. - John
I have E8s first gen...didn't like the touch controls...so I bought 3rd gen & connection mediocre ,fit was only good with comply foam tips & touch controls are not good....Master & Dynamic MW08 are so much better.
Do you find the E8 to be poor at connecting to your devices ? I have found this to be the case...
@@ronervine Hey mate....it was a "mixed bag" as we say here. The connection was one problem, so sometimes good & sometimes bad...more good to be honest.
The sound was excellent when they worked, but let me explain....
The MAJOR problem is this....you take them out of the charging case, (they pair) & you try to twist them into your ear for a good seal, but as you twist, you touch the "touch controls" as you try and maneuver them for the best seal...so they then go into pairing mode - 'cos you hold them for too long, so they don't work.....
So to "reset" them, I would put them in the case & take them out again - for some reason the second time I would take them out of the case - they're not connecting to the phone so I had to delete them as a BLUETOOTH source & I have to go through the whole pairing process....this happened about 85% of the time.
Then if the foam tips were too loose or worn (as I found the silicone tips useless so used foam tips) and the seal was poor & I found myself consistently trying to push them back in or rotate them but would press the side controls & would either pause, activate transparency mode etc., etc....
So for a pair of earphones that were supposed to be convenient, they were everything but that - so I found hem incredibly frustrating!!!! These were the E8 1st Gen, so when the 3rd Gen were announced, I thought I'd give them another change - "better" design blah, blah, blah....but not too much different.
I think these earphones are made & designed to be worn & used at home when you have 2 Hrs to spare to get a proper seal, re-pair to your device (almost always for me) & sit in your lounge room without having to go outside anywhere as they are very "sensitive" in terms of movement & connectivity, sound isolation....
I bought them so I could wear outside whilst I took my dog for a walk but have retired both Generations....have since bought the Master & Dynamic MW08 & for me are a better fitting, more convenient & good sounding product, not as "high-end" compared to B&O, but to be honest I don't even want to go back & compare their sound....could not be bothered.

Too bad they connect randomly depending on if you have another player open ect - and the case even more random.
Too bad they use up all battery if they are left outside from the case (even not connected to BT and you have set the 15 min auto turn off)

Too bad they did not implement a battery management system like Apple Lithium-Ion degrade so much faster when always charged to 100%
(you can't charge them manually to fx 80% and store them outside the case - because again they for some reason use all the battery.)
Too bad the ANC/or something (mic's) is on - event hough you select off/neutral in the app. - If you have/own them - try this : set them to neutral...and then in a room with some background noise, take them out and listen carefully when you plug them in the noise will be less because of the tight seal in your ear
But after a few seconds when they turn on the difference is obvious - This is also the reason when your hair or something touches them they scratch because for some reasons the microphones are on even in Neutral ...whyyyyy ??
Also WHY do they start up always in AptX - It uses more battery than AAC - Why cant I select what I prefer in the APP ..no I hve to go into developermode every single time to select it.
Also too bad they turn up volume whenever you try to adjust the position in your ear. (so annoying)
Also they often get the tapping gestures wrong 3 taps - skip ... 2 taps ANC mode ...1 tap+hold volume ...it all gets mixed. You end up cycling thryu the various ANC modes but not really knowing what mode you are in if you do not have the app ... PLEAAAASE make it possible to select/deselct these tapping/gestures in the app.
But YES they are loud and crystal clear - but all these bugs and stupid programming ..makes me prefer my sons Galaxy Earbud 2 Pro or the Airpods - Not as good sound BUT every thing works so smoooooth and they are smaller feels more secure too.
I personally thing its so embarrassing a Danish cool company have som many technical bugs and ux bugs..... COME ON ...

@@BangOlufsenManchester yes eventually after a factory reset the ANC started to work so take it is not on when you select neutral. But left earbud started to constantly disconnect with 3 - beeps , after googling I learn this is a not at all uncommon problem , there is 100s of postings about this issue.
I hope my Deal will take these back.
For me this is so frustrating that a huge company like B&O don't test these things.
