Need to add some l.e.d light bars around the top of the bus that way you can light up the area around you and can see whats going on in the dark. Without having to get out of the bus.
Yeah, hubby effed up. I love you guys and you have to plan for EXCELLENT communication in emergencies. Jay, you needed to listen to your wife--get back in the vehicle and LEAVE the area. If you'd have been hurt, there is NO TELLING what they could have done to your wife. There were THREE cars, man... Jesus... You CAN'T think with your ego in those situations. You MUST defer to your wife and the caution she was trying to help you see you both needed. You really potentially put both of you in harm's way. Not unforgivable--we're all human, but it's just so important to learn from these types of situations and be a better man/husband for it. I believe in you, brother.
Yikes! Glad you two are okay.. It's important to deescalate those types of situations to the best of your ability. Being heavily outnumbered, if these folks had very evil intentions you would have played right into it.. Always be packin! And more importantly know how to shoot. Glad you're alright.
Tell Jay to invest in some solar floor lights that can activate by motion detectors and that will scare the be Jesus out of them and give you a piece of mind without putting either one of you in arms way. I think you can adjust them to sensitivity of the area your around so they won't come on by just anything. Hope this helps.... You two have a wonderful channel

It’s literally concentrated in 15-20 square blocks. The rest of the town is fine. It’s sucks because the heart of the city is being destroyed. Now the governor has brought in the State police and national guard and are charging crimes at the state and federal level. Hopefully this wraps up by December.

We've been full-time for 3 year's now, in our 40 ft motorhome. And we have gun's. We've had no reason to brandish our weapons, but would if we had to. I pity the fool who brings trouble to our door. But being harmless, don't mean being unprepared. Stay smart and stay safe.

This kind of thing would make me want to have a 4 corner camera security system that always records. You could monitor it from inside without ever opening the doors. Also, the cameras never lie (and make great youtube videos if you catch people doing shady things)

Kels is 100% RIGHT. Call 911 and stay below the windows to prevent anyone seeing you and keep your interior lights off. Turn your exterior lights on and set off the alarm on the bus if you have one. I bought a low cost wireless camera from an Oregon company called Wyze. Less than $40 & connects wireless to my phone. I can see anything going on.

Great videos as always you two, and I'm glad your okay. I find it disturbing in 2020 that people think that one who has a converted school bus must be a "hippy". That era ended long ago. Today in 2020 our busses are self built works of art, and done the the way we like with many reasons. We are not hippy's, we are builders of tiny wonderful houses on wheels.

Yes, that could have ended very badly. Many mistakes were made. NEVER just walk outside. EVER. Install LED flood lights all around the bus. The more the better. Fire them up when necessary. I’m glad you’re safe. Love the channel. 👍😊

This is why we carry... For the crazies that may also be carrying. You never know. However I understand that not everyone is comfortable with owning a gun. At the very least get a taser or some pepper spray! You don't want to be stuck in a situation where you can't protect yourselves. Stay safe!

I have family in Clear Lake, yeah don't like going there much.
Sadly I’ve lived here my entire life and California as a whole is not very friendly to this lifestyle. Safest bet is disbursed camping on national forest or BLM land. Invest in bear spray and pepper spray. We also put 8 Reolink cameras covering 360 around our rig and they record all motion. Easy to see what’s happening from your phone or any tablet inside. They run $45 ish a camera so not too bad.
Bear spray, wasp spray, firearms, floodlights. California native here too, and you’re so right. This state can be really scary in the wrong areas the last few years, and sometimes even in the right areas.
They were on BLM land when those jerks approached their bus.

I have some land in a rural area as a home base to park my bus, and I let other skoolie owners park there as well. One of my neighbors did something similar to us. Just lots of senseless harassment. Apparently he cooks meth and felt intimidated by us women. Eventually I called 911 and the sheriff told the guy I had a lot of guns and would kill him if he ever came on my land again. It’s been quiet since then. I don’t have guns 😂 In the end guys like this are very small but want to be seen as big. I hate letting them scare me. But people are crazy and don’t value life like you do. The spotlight is a good idea- and wasp spray is a very safe and effective solution instead of guns :)

Always got to expect that kind of shit. I grew up around it all the time. If you don’t have a firearm you should get one. The way to address that situation do not open the door!. if you have a roof hatch you should come out the roof hatch with a very bright light I’m talking 100,000 candle power. With your firearm ready.And shine it right in their face if they claim to be a police officer Ask them for identification. Have them slip the identification through a window. Verify that it is authentic. There are a lot of imposters out there that will pretend like they are a cop to rob you kill you or rape you. If it is not authentic with the light still shined in their faces tell them to leave. If they are unwilling to leave start the bus and begin to drive. If they try to block you in that could be considered a threat on your life. You will then need to decide whether or not you feel like your life is in danger and whether or not you can use deadly force to neutralize the threat. You guys are very lucky to have come away from that alive.Had they been real desperados It could’ve ended a lot worse.
Great advice! We will be packing heat on our bus for sure. With security system, cameras, flood lights and dogs🙌. I grew up in Cali and would recommend being careful wherever you go. Lots of bad people and crappy laws that support criminals

As well as the idiotic laws that protect criminals. The law abiding citizen feels like a sitting duck with no defense. And the police are a joke. I have been in many situations where I was lucky to get away with my life. I have been ambushed jumped beaten threatened with guns robbed. I have had criminals kick my front door in in my apartment. I don’t play games anymore.
@Joe Drnec, we’re building a bus as a means to escape California for just those reasons. Crime here has gone insane the last few years, and it mostly goes unpunished.
I personally would make a few upgrades to your bus post haste. 1) Install floodlights that can cover 360' around your bus. 2) Install a camera system that can see 360' around your bus. 3) Park places with cell signal, get a ham license or pickup one of those GPS/satellite emergency transponders used by hikers for Search & Rescue. A quick call to the local 911 would have 1. Verified they weren't actually police 2. Gotten the actual police on scene to deal with the harassers. Camera means you have the evidence needed when the police do show up.
Sad to say, but our current political climate has caused every guy with dreams of glory to strap on an AR-15 and act like the county mounty.

Welcome to California! That’s pretty much what it’s like in this state now. Husband was working on our bus in Home Depot (SoCal) parking lot yesterday and saw a guy pull a black baggie out of a trash can at the back of the lot and then proceed to deal it to a woman in the bushes. Now I’m not sure we should be working on our bus there. Last week my son and I saw feds walk out of the same area, so stuff is weird here. Stay safe! Study your areas before you park, ask the locals.
Mount some bad ass light bars on all sides of the bus so you can flood the place with light. Highly visible security cameras and a satellite dish, they won't know if it's even real but the appearance is you have their pic and it's now in the cloud. Kels, get your own gun and learn how to use it. Remember that helpless feeling... what am I going to do, what if something happens to Jay... you'll never have that feeling again. Train on first aid and maintain a well equipped first aid box / cabinet. Keep a bag with water and granola / protein bars, flash light, a gps or compass clean underwear and socks and windbreaker.
Jay, mentally train yourself to be self disciplined. Kels needs you to be there for her. You did everything wrong in the video. Stay in a position of strength, they have a light and you don't... and you approached / exposed yourself from cover. Don't let fear effect your judgement. Always stop and ask yourself, whats the smart move here, if this goes wrong what happens to Kels?
