- It's been a couple of years since I hiked the wainwrights coast to coast, and in that time I've received lots of messages from people attempting to do the same hike after watching my videos. I thought I'd put together a video to help people who are contemplating tackling the hike in the future. I hope it prooves useful for someone at some point.

That’s twice I’ve watched you finish the Coast to Coast and that’s twice that I’ve been moved to tears by it.
You are the most genuine and likeable bloke I’ve ever met (but not actually met) and I’m sure your Grandfather would be so very proud of you. Thank you for what you do for the rest of us.

Ah the deep fried badger bollock filter, it’s grossly underrated.
I loved following the original coast to coast series you did, top work mate.
Get great fitness and practise is the most honest and best advice I've seen on a video! nice one man.

Watching your coast to coast video was what spurred me and my partner on to do the walk back in 2019. We didnt have any experience and were quite naive about it, no training, never camped and took 4 gas canisters haha! We've since found a love for wild camping and long hikes. You are absolutely right. It was one of the best things we've ever done. No hike we've done since has topped that experience. Thank you for your videos!!
Years ago.. When I started hiking again I got a book about ultra light hiking 🤣🤣 I read it and just put it away.. this guy had like 9lb base weight.. a half toothbrush, a tyvek tarp thingy and I can’t even remember what other ridiculous stuff..
I don’t care how bad my back is at this point, I’m going to carry the kit that lets me be comfortable 🤣 if you can’t sleep comfy you’re going to be miserable.

I'm all for reducing some weight - I did a brief camp out on new year's eve where I was just under a mile from the car, I brought a whole load of creature comforts including some booze, lots of food etc. My pack was in excess of 30kg, not something I'm keen on repeating for any great distance, but it was uncomfortably doable. Of course, for a long hike I'd strip loads of weight out, but there's no way I can be arsed to get down to 9lbs if I plan on enjoying myself.
OMG! The end had me in tears. Family, and our ancestors, matter. 💕
Certainly dry out feet, socks every 6 to 8 miles if you can . It helped me !

I love the sentiment about gear weight, I'm about to do my first ever long distance thru-hike in a few weeks and the whole 'lightweight gear' debates made my head spin. I just got what I could afford in the end and have faith in my fitness to get me through!

Robinhood Bay rang a bell with me for some reason, then asked a few questions and found out why. In 1976 when we were in the UK, my brother and went surfing there.

I'm doing two 20 mile hikes a week just to condition my body. Holding about 12kg each time. Won't be trying it till next year, plenty of time to test some gear 👌
Completed the coast to coast July 2020. Wild camped and wore Altra lone peaks. Had no blisters no injuries at all . Watching you vids helped me plan my light weight kit and led to my success thanks 🙏 I completed it for the BHF and I have grandsons and want them to appreciate it one day like you Hazy atb Dave
I’m doing the C2C this year, just got the new all weather lone peaks, I had the original lone peak 4.0 mids they are very good.
I would also suggest to avoid Facebook wild camping forums as the comments are largely negative (not all of them)
I've left all of them and just take my tips from this lad and other youtubers 🌲👍
Kin legend mate, binge watched the walk, I bike tour but looking into hiking too, def a inspiration and in a language I can understand, though I did fink you was Manc until my wife who is a Manc said nah he's more staithes she likes to be exact , anyway top bloke would definitely have a beer with you , lads lad, man's man , 👍👍

Just love this, you hit the nail on the head on every point. I did this 26 years ago 20 months after a very badly broken leg one late October. Like you this is my Proudest Long distance walk, it is very hard, so enjoyable, difficult to make time to see everything. Big regret doing it with short daylight days. Meet some great people in the Black Lion! Grandads and Dad's are all so missed....keep going my friend ! 👍
You're a very confidence person. Very brave and focused. Apart from that I love hanging out with you on youtube when you venture into the forset, I feel like am there too. 🌈🌲🌳🌲🌲🌳

Oh, and I'm going to be doing the Wainwright walk from my 50th that's in two years for three charities, British Heart Foundation, Cancer research, and Great Ormand Street hospital that all mean a lot to me. It's people like yourself that give people like us so much inspiration to do things like this. all the best.

if i had watched this in 1979 before I carried 42 pounds in 8.5 days with 3 others that fell out and split up when my mate sprained his ankle and me and him took an easier route so he could finish, I would have enjoyed it. It was still an acheivement, but I didnt ENJOY it. Listen to this man, he knows stuff.
I am going to do it again, age 66, and this time I will put that right. Max 20 pound pack, 12 days min. at LEAST three pubs! Peace to all.

But I’m well aware that there are folks out there who don’t yet understand the nuances of all that is involved in what you are doing.

Absolutely loved those videos. I am from Middlesbrough, but spent a lot of time in the Lakes and have walked all the major fells. I know so many of the places you visited and have had a beer or two in some of the same pubs. I also did the Lyke Wake Walk when I was 11. That was a modern take on Wainrights walk. Well done mate!

I did the coast to coast back in 2015 and watched your vid a few months ago as a reminder. Watched a few more of your vids since. Always entertaining and obviously a lot of effort goes in to producing them - keep up the good work buddy.

I suffer a lot with “hotspots “ and subsequently blisters . I now believe that popping fresh socks on at lunchtime helps ! (Two pairs needed for each day of hiking)
If you're that bad might look into a super thin type sock under your reg socks. Sock liners.
Another great video Mr Haze. I did the 'Way of the Roses' coast to coast last year on the bike. Now watching these it looks like you are going to make me do the Wainwright version on foot.

Good bit of advice about being wary of following the ultralight brigade. I've bought into some of the ultralight stuff, but often find myself reverting back to older, slightly heavier, gear as I prefer the added comfort and robustness of it. I also feel more at ease when I don't have to be precious about my stuff. To each their own though. It takes trial and error to work out what works best for you.

Great video Mr (as were all the C2C vids). I lost my beautiful mum in December to dementia, and I'll be doing the C2C for her and Alzheimer's Soc. Quite experienced hiker, but not in long distances. You've really helped to allay a few fears and trepidations, and inspired me to get fitter and enjoy the experience more. Thank you for this and all your great content. Top man :)
