I like this channel, as someone who has sat on both sides of the table as a client for chemical dependency treatment and now as a chemical dependency counselor, she has some great thoughts and ideas. If more counselors took this type of approach, I think the results would be better for everyone. I think I will use some of these ideas and activities.

@@DocSnipes I agree that she expresses a lot of care and concern for her clients. She sees past just what the client is presenting.

I think this was very good, but I had to stop partway through because of the continuous examples about diet and weight loss. I would recommend non-dietitian examples be used more frequently, such as substance use, behavioral issues, relationship issues, codependency, etc. "Health" includes so much more than just our physical appearance, and these other health issues are the greater determinants of our physical health. So, I think instead of only motivating people to lose weight (which they probably have attempted to do many times) we help them become motivated to reduce stress, improve sleeping habits, do exercise for their mental health/increase endorphins/let off steam, get frequent and/or specialized medical treatment, etc. All of these things would enhance one's entire well-being overall, and most likely allow their bodies to land at a weight that is optimal for their functioning.

      hear hear!
(I wouldn't use the word "dietitian" because even though it's just an adjective from "diet" as in "eating" but instead say "diety" (even though diety is not even a real) word a lot of registered dietitians are HAES and all about adding delicious foods to improve nutrition, nothing about weight loss.. I just don't want to tarnish them with an association with diet culture which imho is a death cult! )

It’s a continuous example because it’s one of the more common goals that people motivate themselves to accomplish!

I really like these! I'm sure I'm the problem but, I find I have to understand the flow of your presentation before going back and writing things down. For example, in "6 characteristics" one of them, Motivation is multidimensional" lists six dimensions; I thought those were the characteristics 🙃🙃

I know what you are saying, but I think it's almost impossible to completely list all the possibilities for each situation. My brain was coming up with more and more situations as she was talking. I guess that is the whole purpose of the presentation.😁
