Glad to see you put Invasion of the Dinosaurs in the top half. If the dinosaur effects were Jurassic Park quality, I feel like this one would regularly crack most Pertwee fans’ top 10.

Hopefully for The Collection Range they update the effects, regardless the story is still great!

The Deamons is my favorite. I was all set to meat Jon Pertwee at a GalifreyOne convention in Los Angels, but he passed away one week before the convention. He will always be my favorite doctor.

Funny - Mutants and the Time Monster are some of my fave Pertwee stories. Inferno is indeed a masterpiece however. But I enjoyed listening to different opinion :)

I think you need to invest in a better microphone. Too many audio dropouts to hear what you’re saying most of the time.

My list of essential Pertwee stories:
    1. Inferno
    2. The Green Death
    3. The Sea Devils
    4. Spearhead from Space
    5. The Silurians
    6. The Daemons
    7. Day of the Daleks
    8. Terror of the Autons
    9. The Time Warrior
    10. Claws of Axos
    11. Curse of Peladon
    12. Planet of Spiders
    13. Mind of Evil
Imo these are the must see's. The other stories all have some merit as was fairly pointed out in this excellent video analysis.
One of my first specific memories is of watching the Sea Devils emerging from the waves and having nightmares about that - I was 3 😂

I am that one guy who really likes The Mutants. I might be a bit biased because it was the first full story that I watched as a kid but I think the concept and the solid villain elevate it. I’ll give you the poor acting by several of the cast as a weakness.

My own personal favourite is Day of the Daleks. The thing about classic Doctor Who is that there are always flaws, whether they are in the script , the production, the direction, the acting, the sets, the design etc and your enjoyment of a story often depends on how much the good aspects outweigh the flaws. In the case of Day of the Daleks I find that the flaws don't really bother me. The Daleks aren't written into the story that well and they aren't portrayed or directed well. But I don't mind. The story is really good, the pacing is good, the acting is good - in particular I loved Aubrey Woods. He is great as a slimy, self-serving, cruel controller of the human workers acting as a middleman for the Daleks but he also convinces as a man who, in his own twisted way, is trying to do the best for those humans who are being worked to death and his transformation when the Doctor convinces him to switch sides and help destroy the Daleks, which leads to his own self-sacrifice, is very moving. That aspect of the story is mirrored by the guerrillas who are genuinely trying to save the human race by killing Reginald Styles but through their interactions with the Doctor eventually realise that they are actually helping to bring about its destruction. It's that element of tragedy in those two parts of the story that gives this story an amount of depth that, for me, make it one of the most emotionally satisfying stories of Doctor Who that I have watched.

Nice to see the love for Inferno and Daemons. Daemons is my #1, Inferno #2.
I wish we had gotten another season with Liz. She was my favorite companion from this era.

Not only is Inferno the greatest 3rd doctor story its the greatest of all Dr who. Colony in space Planet of the Daleks and The 3 Doctors are my top Pertwee Stories as the Dicks Letts Who series was the most political collection of stories aping what was going on with environmental protection and exploitation and the death of the British Empire.

It really has to be said that outside of Pertwee's first season, the rest of the era is a low point in terms of the writing quality. I think a big part of this was the supervisory role of Robert Holmes with regard to the scripts. His stories represent some of the high points of a lackluster period for the series (Jon Pertwee post season 7).
    Edit: My actual ranking
    1. Spearhead From Space
    2. Inferno
    3. Terror of the Autons
    4. The Time Warrior
    5. Silurians

I would disagree as I feel the Pertwee era is the most consistent in terms of story quality.

@@IsaacWhittakerDakin I get a bit long winded here so please feel free to tune me out. There's a subjective element with these things, but so many times with the Pertwee era, these are four part stories (if that) and they're making them six part stories...a...lot.
That obviously isn't the whole story, because I feel Pertwee's first season was very strong and 3 of those stories are long.
The mistake is made whereby you rely on action and chase sequences and that's a weak point for doctor who in the 2000s, never mind 50 blanking years ago. Padding and people being captured and escaping and being captured just to fill time. It feels like a Brit version of that Planet of the Apes TV program with Charles Naughton.
The eclectic nature of the program is also absent with the earlier Pertwee stories. In the Hartnell era, for example, you never knew where you were going next. That spontaneity is conspicuously absent in the early 70s. Sometimes the earthbound timelord phenomena works like with Robert Holmes' two Auton stories. Other times they just seem like British versions of 1950s Burt Eye Gordon movies done 20 years later (Demons, Sea Devils, Green Death, Dinosaur Invasion, The Spider Planet). And while the messaging back then wasn't nearly as cringe as what you get now, it does seem more heavy handed than at any other time during the original 26 year run, excepting Mcoy and the writing then was much better. Delgado was an amazing actor but his over use kind of spoils the magic.
It really isn't the fault of the actors. For whatever reason (Hinchcliffe's approach to production, Holmes' oversight on scripts) causes a drastic change in quality during Baker's first season. Every story in season 12 is an absolute classic besides Revenge of the Cybermen. I don't think this has much to do with the fourth doctor's acting, rather it is a commitment to writing.
There's definitely there there. For my money, I'd say Season seven Plus Carnival and Time Warrior is about all I care to see more than once.

In the era of Barry Letts, Doctor Who was very political. Inferno, Claws of Axos, Green Death, Silurians, Colony in Space, Curse of Peladon or Day of the Daleks are just some examples.

how can you possibly say the music to 'Death to the Daleks' is awful? - it's so frightening. Not the Daleks in the Exxilon city but the music where the bandaged creatures try to sacrifice Sarah in the caves...the scariest music cues ever in Dr Who.

A Star Trek: tNG took the plot of the "Mutants," and in 45 minutes, did a richer, more nuanced story.
