Ha yes I'm still going here :) a bit harder currently with hard to get 'chips' and shipping woes in the business so focused on that a bit. Seems a shortage of new quality gear out there too somehow - they are probably suffering in similar ways. And China is in lock down in some areas like Shanghai. More stuff to come though... and I'll soldier on with reviews as its very interesting stuff. I have a few things lined up for soon. Thanks for the kind words and for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial for sure more uncertain times are ahead all we can do is keep plucking away the best we can. Btw really like the new room filming, very classy! 👌🏼
Thanks for watching Rakesh... I have many on my channel check it out....

As I hate the IR rabbit hole and generally like the stock cabs on this device I’d give it a solid ten. Thanks for the review. Like a few other devices, I bought this after seeing your video. In my experience you are one of a very few reviewers who gives an honest review.
Well thanks for the info. I too liked this GX-100 and its a no-messing and good priced device. Thanks for putting trust in my review too. I honestly try hard to show what I find as a real paying customer to gear under review. Some others don't... and thanks for watching.
What a great video Tony your review of the Boss GX-100 is second to none nobody does videos like you they are much appreciated by me and hopefully anyone who chooses to purchase one I agree with you Roland Boss makes great stuff I was thinking of getting a Helix but after your video I think this Unit is for me very user friendly thanks for all of your in depth videos TONY, you have the best reviews on UA-cam and there honest reviews.
I absolutely love this pedal. With the Bluetooth adapter it is super easy to upload patches from the Boss tone studio from your phone. I traded my Axe FX ultra for the GX100 and have no regrets.
@Rockin' Dave Byron I am very impressed with the feel of the GX100, and it is a pedal unit instead of the rack unit. I just show up, plug in and play. The presets are regrettably bad. So Don't get discouraged. You can watch a few UA-cam videos to help dial in a great tone if you are new to modelers.
Helpful video. Having used axe fx. Helix. Headrush etc. I've found myself using one of these units live and in practical terms it is as good as anything sound wise. Very well built and doesn't worry me the way other units did in terms of reliability. You showing the inside was very interesting. Keep up the good work tony.
Got one two weeks ago, can't fault it, so easy to use and not necessary to tweak constantly with a pc! Glad I opted for this over the GT1000Core. Great vid as usual Tony 👍 Regarding the IR's, once you've loaded them you can choose them from the pedal (speaker options, along with the in-built choices) which is actually very practical!
Exactly my opinion - easy to use and little faffing about. The CORE has its place (I still have mine) but for easy simple general playing the GX-100 is really a winner. Yes I anticipated you can do it form the pedal but (the truth) ha I was too idle to spend long looking for it... :) it's easy on the software of course. Overall a very welcome pedal and one that really did offer things that the others were sometimes cumbersome at doing.... thanks for your opinion too - and for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial Glad I got mine over the core however I am getting really bad noisefloor no matter what I try. I've lowered input gain and even in global EQ . This is with only the output going to my headrush 112 FRFR . Overall though great unit and really want it to be for me but sadly don't think it is. I'd gig with it though 10/10. ;)
I’ve just bought one of these and used it at rehearsals and a small gig. I’m just about to watch your review. It’ll be interesting to see if you pick up on the same things I have. Love your honest reviews. Bracing myself……..here go’s….
Thanks Mark and I'm glad you liked it. Its a good pedal and deserves to be a success for them - and I'm sure it will sell buckets of them. Thanks for watching.
Thanks Tony, very in depth indeed. Regarding the USB cable (or lack thereof, rather) I actually appreciate them leaving it out since most of us probably already have a dozen of them lying around 😉
Another reason to adore Roland-Boss as this is not only very user friendly, built to the usual Boss ultra durable and impeccable standards AND most importantly sounds really GREAT too. What else could you want for such a reasonable price?
Nice review Tony. Seems like a great product in this price range and built like Boss always does. Yes, super SMD miniature components, but that is the standard these days. Not going anywhere near it with my Weller iron. Great functionality on the switches and I like being able to change the input sensitivity for when you switch guitars. I am used to creating banks that work with each instrument. I like the touchscreen functionality better than the Headrush Gigboard that I tried and sent back. If I wasn't already knee deep in FAS products I'd give this one a go. Many years ago I had a Boss GT-5 that served me well. Glad Boss is keeping w/ the times.
Very similar to my views too. Ha I have loads of units and I think some have to go :) - thats the problem when I buy stuff to review some has to go or I can't get in the studio :) Thanks for watching.
Thank you Andrew... I liked this one although I screwed the vocal audio through knocking a switch - but it was watchable and I did not have another two days to redo it all. Not a bad unit and it so reminded me of the GT-100 when that came out. Thanks for watching too.
Hi Tony, In terms of clean tone, modulation, and delays quality between GX100 and GT-1000... are they sound the same? Or one is better than the other? I need your advice before jump to the conclusion and making a decision to purchase one.
I think there is a difference. On the GT-1000 I checked it was initial version and I did not really like it. It's improved these days. I DO own the GT-1000CORE which sounds good to me. The GX100 as I showed here is pretty good for that cost and although tones are subjective either will probably work for you. Hope it helps... and thanks for watching.
I've just watched this and the Pod Go reviews and have decided to buy one, would you recommend one over the other? Thank you for two wonderful reviews.
This was IMO the better of the two units. I like Line6 and have a Helix rack, but the GX-100 was quite well thought out and sounded good to my ears. And it had plenty of power from what I saw. Thanks fore watching and I hope that helps. If you get one come back and comment your own opinion!
Great Reviw Tony. Ive been looking to buy an Multi effects unit around this price and there are so many to choose from. Your review made up my mind . Looks like the Boss for me.
That processing board is the first one i've seen you look at that uses 0402 sized components (.040" x .020"). Indeed, they are microscopic when it comes to rework. You need a very fine tip soldering iron and a microscope to change them out. Or, I do any way. Smallest i can do without a microscope is 0805.
Hi Alex, I'm on your board presently... yes same here it was VERY tiny stuff and certainly hot air etc. would be essential as well as a microscope and tweezers :) At work we have the gear but I doubt I would go near this pedal... Ha it needs guys like you :) certainly not a ham fisted guy like me :). Regards
Good review . Thank you. I’ve had the Ampero one for a few years and the one thing I like about it is that it has balanced output. The other thing I don’t is the it doesn’t have an effects loop so you can’t do the 4 cable method . I am interested in if this unit can get good pushed clean sounds without spending two weeks trying to dial it in.
This one DOES have an effects loop and you can 4CM this unit from what I see. No balanced outputs though. In my short experience (yes I really did video as I plugged it in) so far I think you would not spend forever trying to get the sounds and its a very easy unit to use. I like the simplicity of course, but you can seem to do lots with it especially with the software. Thanks for watching and stopping by...
I have always thought the amp tones are the real secret to great guitar, and the effects become a sort of 'mask' that can (but not always) enhance the sounds heard. Thanks and great question.
A great in-depth review, Tony, and I've seen a couple from your channel from time to time! But I have a question - as I recently saw your in-depth review of the Mooer GE300, I was wondering... Which unit is the better one, side to side: the Mooer GE300 or the Boss GX-100? Or am I going about this all wrong, and the units are meant for completely different consumer types?
Better? A difficult one - simply because better means different things to different people. For example, for me, I liked the ease of use of the GX-100 whereas some functions of the MOOER GE300 were a little strange, as was the 'two apps' which should have been one for the GE300. Then there is the tones... well, again that becomes a personal choice. Really you have to try them both side by side if you can re tones and also the 'feel' becomes important on simulated amps. Both devices are aimed IMO towards not pro users so are competing in the same exact market. There are many more to consider and of recent times I have reviewed many of them... some good, some less so. Hope it helps a bit.
I have NOT tried it on the Marshall HJS. But I do know that when using the Helix Rack (for example) that it can be a bit awkward - and I doubt that this pedal or any other MIDI pedal would 'just work'. Having said that, once it's set up it should remember the settings and be fine. Hope it helps and thanks for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial It's funny, the older Gt processors just automatically worked as midi controllers for most products back in the day. There seemed to be a basic default setting that all manufacturers used but now a complete setup is required. What's up with that Boss?
That's a personal choice... for me I would go the GX-100 every time... but remember - I say that bearing in mind my style of playing that can be heavy rock stuff. Thanks for watching.
The select knob on mine got damaged, when you press it down it doesn’t select the source anymore when assigning fx. Any suggestions as to how I should go about getting it fixed?
Hi Tony, How's it going. Getting shut of some vintage gear (let's face it it's only musicians who check your gear out but people are more than happy if it sounds right) getting this or the gt1000. What would you recommend mate? Cheers, Andy.
Look closer at the specifications... like blocks etc... and that's really where the gear will vary. The tones are subjective, but the specifications are not! Hope it helps and thanks for watching.
This one is IMO easier to use... sounds are subjective really and for that reason best if you can check one out in 'person' so to speak. The GE300 I also reviewed here: ua-cam.com/video/rSZVMzVR2fA/v-deo.html so do take a look. Thanks for watching...
@@tonymckenzieofficial Congratulations ! nice your video! Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I wonder if you made a similar video with the headrush? Thank you
That's a great question... but sound is subjective really. What I would say, is that if you can that you try both units yourself. Don't listen to others telling you this or that. And when you try them play YOUR style on them, because I have found that some units are great at clean tones but lack in heavier tones. And some are the opposite. The one thing I could say, is that Boss have custom chips inside that unit, and it is highly likely (although I have not examined one) that the Valeton has off the shelf components etc. Of course the software is also important on these types of units as is the operational functions so do consider the 'ease of use' also which really does matter. I hope these comments help a bit and thanks for watching.
i dont know if you can demostrate it properly, but how bright is the interface in daylight? or say a very bright light across it. Readable? Thats often been my biggest qualm with lcd displays on pedals.
It did seem bright. On the video it looks like no lights in the room but there are - and those can be glaring sometimes. If I get a chance I'll just knock a short video out about that. Good point... and thanks for watching.
Hello Tony, silly question here from a 53 year old guy that is looking for SIMPLE and EASY to program multi effects unit. I seem to understand that a good IR will simplify a lot of basic sound setting work. Can I presume that with a good IR pedal (T.C. Electronic's Impulse loader as an example) I could combine it with a good old Boss ME-80 and obtain a similar quality sound as I would with a GX-100, without the complexity and the endless options. Is that a fair assessment, or am I stuck in the ice age ? I've had my eye on the HR MX5 but the more I read on it, the more it seems to offer too many possibilities and I fear I will just get discouraged spending too much time programming PS: My unit is intended for live performance only and I am not planning on playing through an amp, but rather straight into a PA thanks very much in advance Tony!
Great question. Well, any IR device (there are many inc the one you mention - I have one of the BluGuitar ones that has built in IR stuff) can effectively change thew sound that you hear if used as it should be. And you're right the IR and its settings does change the tone you hear of that there is no doubt. But... think about thew question... assume the Boss ME-80 tone is fed to one of those devices, then the sound coming out will be the ME-80 and 'changed' because of the IR device. But it won't change the underlying tone fed in to the IR device... what you hear would be the ME-80 plus a speaker sim.... if you get me. In other words, it won't make the ME-80 (and this is just a silly example) Marshall amp sound like a Marshall amp sim from say a Lie6 Helix. Of course the speaker influences the underlying tone, but it would not make that underlying tone anything other than how it would sound through a speaker - I hope I got that said right. Some guys might disagree... but that's how I understand it. The MX5 has speaker emulation in it. I know EXACTLY what you mean about the complexity of the simulators - and while some are 'OK', others are like piloting a 'blackbird' :) So the IR device and ME-80 might be fine for you... my guess is that it could work - and you raised a good point and one I have not been asked before... and thanks for watching. Hope it helps.
Like the first noodle - very Santana-like, a slight dusting of Steely Dan and maybe a little Al Di Meola? I have a deposit on one from GAK when they finally get re-stocked!
I can recommend the GX-100 as probably one of the better units for a low(ish) price - I still have mine too :). Do let me know what you think when yours arrives - nice to hear what others think. Thanks for watching.
The Reasons I prefer Boss over Fractal and Lime 6 is that if I want to start all over I just perform a factory Reset .On Fractal I have to use Fractal Bot and redownload Patches from another source and hope that Fractal still supports the product which on some of their products they no longer support.
Good points. And theres more... on some devices if you 'cock up' the original as shipped and did not do a backup then sadly I have found some sims have great difficulty in resetting to factory... not just re the hardware. Great point you mention and one that is not mentioned often... aggro of resetting at a gig could be extremely painful with some devices, but I guess all those followers of each brand have their 2k backup waiting in the wings... not! :) Thanks for watching.
Great in depth review!! ...question... do you know if buttons C1, C2 and Bank up/Down can they be assigned to turn effects on/off? there by, giving you 8 footswitchable effects in one patch? thanks! Have a great day!!!
I don't know the answer from the top of my head so to speak... anyone else know... (I don't always spend much time on the gear once reviewed unless I have nothing else and currently I have yet to get back to the pedal so sorry about that). But thanks for watching appreciated....
Hello Tony, thanks for really nice review. I have one more question - how would you connect GX-100 straight to mixer? Usualy, you would use XLRs, but these are missing here. Thanks.
Well I guess which mixer? Mine has regular 6.3mm connectors and XLR (those combo ones) so I just plug in. An alternative if you have a desk that works digital and can receive/send streaming audio is to connect via USB. It all works and while it's not XLR seems fine to me. You could of course also mic an amp and turn off the simulators in the pedal, but that can sort of defeat the object I guess :) Thanks for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial usualy, it is behringer xr18. This one has also 6,3 jack input. But my question was more about balanced/unbalanced output of gx-100. My teoretical use case is doing whole sound on gx-100 and send this sound to foh guy, who will mix it with whole band. Right now, I use Ampero, which has xlr out and that is straightforward. Thanks for your time.
Is it possible to plug it both into power amp to guitar cab with ir off, and to PA with ir on at the same time? How does it compare to pod go and mooer ge300? Cheers
I'm going to guess that you can't do that. You can have two amps and there is the mix block but I don't see how that could be done - but also remember I have literally only had this unit as long as the video was posted! I really did look at it fresh :) If anyone knows a definitive answer to this then please do post it here... great question BTW... and thanks for watching.
I thought this one was so easy to use and it sounded good in real life. Some other units are not quite as good as this one... and on the playing I went direct in to the recording desk without anything else...
I stopped buying separate pedals many years ago. I don't see the point when you have pedal boards like this with so many pedals within it for such a small outlay and because it is Boss it will last you many years. 😎
I agree. While I do have some pedals for in the studio it would also be my choice to buy an effects unit for live stuff... I have a Helix in a rack for that and that works great. Thanks for watching.
Well it's all subjective really I did try to show differences with different guitars etc. and different patches and one IR I just flipped in as well as the regular Boss stuff. Seemed alright at the time, but the last track my mind was really elsewhere so I could have been much better with heavy stuff... but it lost it early on I guess. In any case I thought in the room that it all sounded OK on the effects and the tones.. thanks for watching.
Yes they do - and opening many Boss and Roland I always see them in there. Hard to get to the other one under the board on this unit, but it's all getting smaller and smaller. Boss are masters at that, and I guess its because they sell so much gear. Thanks...
Ah the GT-100 I remember that so well... it was so good when it came out too - I commented about it in this video. The two screens were a boon. I like the Eventide stuff, H9 - but I wish they would have released that unit with more controls etc. on the unit and made it simpler rather than for mainly on pedal board. I have had a few of the H9's but I always stumble on the controls. Having said that - incredible effects from one of the best out there. Thanks for watching.
You'd have to be a real tone snob to want more than 15 effects. But I've only been playing for about 2 months so what do I know. I just ordered one of these.
I bought my gx100 December 2022 it worked fine until early this autumn. The knobs and function buttons started to not respond when I pushed them. It works perfect for about 30-40 min then it freezes up. I have to pull out the power cable plug cause the on off button doesn't respond. I did a firmware update to 1.12., and that extended the working period for about 70-80 min before it freezes up...Any ideas?? Thanks in advance..
Well I sincerely hope you guys will be OK the news is horrible right now and IMO the world is not what it was in the 1940's, its just that some in power think it is. Sincerely stay safe there if that's possible. I'm sure everyone wishes you guys well.
Does the GX 100 sound very different from the GT 1000 ? Asking because you were not too impressed with the latter!! To me the most important thing about any review is how it sounds.
Well I do think everything about a device is important, but obviously the sound is at the top of the list (at least until it breaks!). IMO the GX-100 is different than the GT1000. I reviewed the GT1000 when it first came out and I have to say it was not a good device for tone... there was no doubt about that. The GT-1000 series has more recently improved though and if you watch my review of the GT1000CORE you will see reasonably good tones IMO. In fact I still own a GT1000CORE.... while we all have our priorities re gear, it's far from 'just the tone' that matters though and any failed bit of gear you ever owned 'outside the warranty' will confirm that when you have to pay for a repair or buy a new one because they 'can't repair it' type of thing. Hope it helps and thanks for watching.
Thank you for your insights, in the GT 1000 they introduced mastering FX in firmware 3.20 , and I read somewhere that this particular effect is not there in the GX 100 ( maybe they incorporated it into the overall sound of the GX 100) . Although I am a hardcore Boss fan ( have the VG 99 , GP 10 , GT 100 etc ) I wasn’t too thrilled with the sounds of the early firmware of the GT 1000. However will appreciate if you could do a comparison between the two units with both sporting the latest hardware as I am about to pull the trigger on a GX 100
Thanks for another great review Tony, it is so close to making me buy one, but at the moment £499 is too much to spend on what for me would be an expensive toy. I only play at home, and only want clean tones with a bit of tape echo for the music that i play. Perhaps the new Ampero or Nu-X will be better for my requirements.🙂
New Ampero is hardly any cheaper, and you'd be without an expression pedal. If you want that, and as many switchesvas the Boss, it would actually be more expensive.
@Harry Anderson Trouble is Harry, there is a load of not so good ones too... honestly you could spend a very long time trying to work through them all. But good point if you can find the good ones.
Oh I know - trust me on that. In the sectors I'm currently in there are massive problems with 'chips' shipping and even a lock down in China... it all makes for a very volatile time in business and that makes me feel like being very careful presently. The Ampero stomp II I reviewed and you might have seen it. But I have yet to look at the Nu-X unit. Yes from what you say the GX-100 might offer more than you need anyway.. what I liked was the ease of use really. Thanks...
Oh I know - I was very surprised about that - and the laptop I used is no slouch (i7). But did you notice how fast the live sets loaded from tone studio? almost instant. I literally only had this unit as I recorded things and not long enough to explore every facet, but you're right in reality it did sound good - even with the standard included IR's. Thanks for watching.
used and compared this to the gt1000... the sound quality on the gt1000 is amazing compared to this. and being a tone snob i had no choice but to return the gx
I reviewed the GT1000 on Version 1 firmware, and trust me, at that time the GX ate it for breakfast in the GX review I made. They say the GT1000 has changed (and I know the GT1000CORE was an improvement) and for the price lets face it, it should be! :) Thanks for the post and for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial I’m sorry I didn’t get a more detailed thought across. However, There are a ton of crappola videos for this new Boss unit. Nice job telling it how it is by the Pro. The old dodger in the back with spandex playing a 80s Charvel still could be someone we know.
Loved it, great in-depth evaluation. But not the Boomer audio. The refraction off the walls make the audio very difficult to tolerate and the sibilance was harsh. Maybe invest in a lapel mic?
Indeed I DO have a lapel mic. This audio did have a problem (I set the mic wrong by accident) and if you watch (for example) the SG review (last one made) its substantially different. My apologies for the audio but I could not go back to do it all again - I spend far too long making and then editing. In any case thanks for watching - appreciated.
I did check the tuning on the first track in particular as I used three different guitars and three presets... with one external IR. On the last track it did sound 'off' a bit to me too. Certainly not my best playing as it was generally just a jam so to speak. The tones went direct in to the desk without ANY other device whatsoever. Maybe I'll revisit it on a different video. Thanks...
Exactly right. That's one thing I can absolutely agree on... and at the level that's inside these things these days did you notice how small those components really were... out with the soldering iron and in with the hot air and microscope as Alex below commented. Thanks for watching.
Microphone that was knocked in to the wrong setting... and only found out AFTER two days of recording. It happens and sorry about that - but it IS watchable because actually last night I watched it on a TV! :). Thanks for watching though and expect a return to decent audio next time.
Yes the audio on this had a microphone problem and has been reported previously in the postings... but hey thanks for letting me know and sorry I can't go back and fix it... or I would. Try my latest reviews like the UA Dream 65 pedal and you might be OK with that... and thanks for watching.
Hey…Flash News!…There is a problem when using IRs, they sound like a pillow is hiding their true audio, I don’t think it’s anything related to firmware, sounds like a buffer hardware problem to me!! Keep up with the great gear reviews, your saving me a lot of money!!
Sometimes I do get microphone problems... and often I find out after the recording :( but to be fair, its really not that often. Most other reviews are information light so I guess it depends what you want from a review. Thanks.
@@tonymckenzieofficial Ok. I thought I was a shame since you made such an effort with the video you made. Anyway. 😎 Any idea why my EXP1 Switch doesn't work. Could it be mechanical?? Thanks in advance,
@@nashville500 I can't tell you why it won't work, but that could be maybe dodgy switch, cracked track even. I have no circuit diagram either sorry, they tell me nothing and even though I have reviewed their gear for about 15 years or so I never hear even a peep from them. Most of my reviews on pedals ands simulators etc. are generally long and include many things that others never do, while it makes the videos long, there are generally always chapters in the text below. Sorry I can't help more...
At that price point with so little refinement other than a touchscreen? So little in customizable sound opportunities compared to many others (line6) I'd give it a 6. Its gonna be trash heaped within the next 2 years. Don't get me wrong I love boss but they dropped the ball on this and didn't give it what it really needs........
I get your point for sure... but Boss themselves have in some ways shot themselves in the foot so to speak. This is sold at a reasonable price (below the GT-1000CORE) and certainly has less features than some on the GT-1000CORE device. Its a market that is getting so crowded these days and the 'next' pedal always romises more for less etc. Personally I related this pedal as being an 'update' on the GT-100 in many ways... a bit more of an 'every day' workhorse particularly useful for the live stuff although I guess it could do the other stuff. The low KHz was a little surprising... but not entirely unexpected for this price sector. Great comment and thanks for watching too.
Anthony Hopkins reviews GX-100. Great video, love the detail! Also love the chopstick and great jam sesh!
Thanks! and thanks for watching.
As always man you have the best in-depth gear reviews, thanks for this, hope you’re well
Ha yes I'm still going here :) a bit harder currently with hard to get 'chips' and shipping woes in the business so focused on that a bit.

My pleasure! and thank you for those very kind words... appreciated.
I absolutely love this pedal. With the Bluetooth adapter it is super easy to upload patches from the Boss tone studio from your phone. I traded my Axe FX ultra for the GX100 and have no regrets.
Glad you like it!
, I'm thinking about getting one, thanks for you statement in your comments, be safe, Rock On & God Bless!!!
WOW, if you traded your Axe FX for this, that says a LOT about the GX100
@Rockin' Dave Byron I am very impressed with the feel of the GX100, and it is a pedal unit instead of the rack unit. I just show up, plug in and play. The presets are regrettably bad. So Don't get discouraged. You can watch a few UA-cam videos to help dial in a great tone if you are new to modelers.
Love your content. Thank you. This is on my wishlist.
Awesome! Thank you! and thanks for watching...
Great comment and appreciated... always useful to many when someone also tells the way it is for them... and thanks for watching.
Great review, really helpful. Probably going pick up one of these now! Thank you.
Yes I liked the GX-100 especially for the price.
I'd gig with it though 10/10. ;)
Tu sceglieresti questa boss o ampero2 stomp?
I’ve just bought one of these and used it at rehearsals and a small gig. I’m just about to watch your review. It’ll be interesting to see if you pick up on the same things I have. Love your honest reviews. Bracing myself……..here go’s….
Ha I'm sure you'll get on with it as you move forward with it ;-) it's a long video, but they always are. High quality Boss gear. Thanks.
Great revue Tony thanks for the info keep up the great work cheers.
Fair enough point, but what if you don't have one? Get the money out... sadly. Thanks for watching.
Another reason to adore Roland-Boss as this is not only very user friendly, built to the usual Boss ultra durable and impeccable standards AND most importantly sounds really GREAT too. What else could you want for such a reasonable price?
The GX-100 is quite a pedal actually and certainly worth a look. Thanks...
@@tonymckenzieofficial Oh no, don't mention it but THANK YOU Dearest Sir.
Tony - Thank you for the review! I'm buying one unit this month (April 2022)!
You should get on with it... not a bad device at all and I loved the touch screen that worked for me without incident... thanks.
Great job Tony as usual, thank you!
My pleasure... and thanks for watching.
Always enjoy your content and reviews sir!
Thank you Andrew... I liked this one although I screwed the vocal audio through knocking a switch - but it was watchable and I did not have another two days to redo it all. Not a bad unit and it so reminded me of the GT-100 when that came out. Thanks for watching too.
Hi Tony,
In terms of clean tone, modulation, and delays quality between GX100 and GT-1000... are they sound the same? Or one is better than the other?
I need your advice before jump to the conclusion and making a decision to purchase one.
I think there is a difference. On the GT-1000 I checked it was initial version and I did not really like it. It's improved these days. I DO own the GT-1000CORE which sounds good to me. The GX100 as I showed here is pretty good for that cost and although tones are subjective either will probably work for you. Hope it helps... and thanks for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial Well said. I just purchased the GX-100, thanks to you. Cheers!
Awesome review! Thanks for the detail.
Glad it was helpful! and thanks for watching.
I still have mine and this one for the price is really pretty cool. If you get one come back and post your opinion too! and thanks for watching.
Regards
NICE ONE TONY WELL DONE
Thank you kindly
What would it be better to prioritize for a live situation? Having better sound quality for effects or for amp simulation?
I have always thought the amp tones are the real secret to great guitar, and the effects become a sort of 'mask' that can (but not always) enhance the sounds heard. Thanks and great question.
Good review as always
I'm after a compact unit that is feature packet
Gx100, headrush to zoom G6 or others in your opinion
GX100 is pretty cool, but also NUX Trident check my review... thanks
sir is it possible if you open the unit, theres a contamination of moisture in board and affect the function of the unit,?
I doubt that. I have opened up hundreds of devices and never had a single issue. Thanks
The enclosure is not air tight. Moisture will have no problem getting inside
Hello Tony will this unit midi channel switch your Marshall JVM410-HJS without any additional setup?
I have NOT tried it on the Marshall HJS. But I do know that when using the Helix Rack (for example) that it can be a bit awkward - and I doubt that this pedal or any other MIDI pedal would 'just work'. Having said that, once it's set up it should remember the settings and be fine. Hope it helps and thanks for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial It's funny, the older Gt processors just automatically worked as midi controllers for most products back in the day. There seemed to be a basic default setting that all manufacturers used but now a complete setup is required. What's up with that Boss?
Balanced XLR outs would have been nice.
Agreed....
Your correct Roland have designed their own chip since the GT 100, all other modellers use chips made by other companies
Thanks Matthew for conforming that point... and for watching of course...
Hi, can you pls advice on which one to select among Line 6 Pod Go and gx100. I want to use mainly for church music
That's a personal choice... for me I would go the GX-100 every time... but remember - I say that bearing in mind my style of playing that can be heavy rock stuff. Thanks for watching.
Have you chosen or brought any of them. I am also in the same situation and confused.
@@aji_vrz hi, I have not bought yet. Planning for next month. I am more inclined to line 6 pod go because my purpose is church music.
The select knob on mine got damaged, when you press it down it doesn’t select the source anymore when assigning fx. Any suggestions as to how I should go about getting it fixed?
How old is it?
Hi Tony, How's it going. Getting shut of some vintage gear (let's face it it's only musicians who check your gear out but people are more than happy if it sounds right) getting this or the gt1000. What would you recommend mate? Cheers, Andy.
Look closer at the specifications... like blocks etc... and that's really where the gear will vary. The tones are subjective, but the specifications are not! Hope it helps and thanks for watching.
Good review. Hey how would this compare to the mooer ge300. Basically looking at sound quality. Am stuck between this and the mooer.
This one is IMO easier to use... sounds are subjective really and for that reason best if you can check one out in 'person' so to speak. The GE300 I also reviewed here: ua-cam.com/video/rSZVMzVR2fA/v-deo.html so do take a look. Thanks for watching...
was your mic working?
Maybe or not... I found the problem at edit time :( but that's life I guess. Thanks
thanks!!!!! could i do something similar to the scenes of the headrush with de gx-100 ??? happy weekend
It is possible to assign anything to any button etc. so while there are no scenes that I saw, you can work around it I guess. Thanks for watching.
@@tonymckenzieofficial Congratulations ! nice your video! Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I wonder if you made a similar video with the headrush? Thank you
Great review Tony, do you think i can use it with pedals as digital amp? Of course I would use it with headphones. Cheers!
Certainly but remember no real output for just speakers etc. but to headphones might well work.
@@tonymckenzieofficial thabk you very much tony.
hello sir, greetings from Indonesia, I have a question, which one do you think sounds better, valeton gp 200 or boss gx 100?
@@tonymckenzieofficial Thank you very much sir🙏
When are you going to review the ZOOM G6?
I'll consider buying one ;-) thanks for watching...
i dont know if you can demostrate it properly, but how bright is the interface in daylight? or say a very bright light across it. Readable? Thats often been my biggest qualm with lcd displays on pedals.
It did seem bright. On the video it looks like no lights in the room but there are - and those can be glaring sometimes. If I get a chance I'll just knock a short video out about that. Good point... and thanks for watching.
I'm undecided. between the Boss GX-100 or gt-100, What do you think is more recommended?
The GT-100 is like me... getting on... :) so I have to say that it would today be the GX-100... hope it helps... and thanks for watching.
Sir can i ask you, i put my gx100 in the seat of a car, then it drop to the floor, is there any cause the gadget to malfunction?
That would be difficult to say, but it is possible. Thanks.
Thanks a lot. Really helpful.
Great to know and thanks for watching.
I've had my eye on the HR MX5 but the more I read on it, the more it seems to offer too many possibilities and I fear I will just get discouraged spending too much time programming
PS: My unit is intended for live performance only and I am not planning on playing through an amp, but rather straight into a PA
thanks very much in advance Tony!
Tony, thanks for the review. It’s pretty much what I thought. I love simple. Crack on!
Yeah me too. It worked very well too... thanks...
Thanks for your time.
use a DI box.
You could use the fx send output to your guitar cab without IR And the main outs to the front of house.
I been playing the GM40 but I want to buy one of these I think this would be good playing through my studio monitors
Super, thanks. Pretty clear picture. Sounds much more full bodied and smooth than the GT-1 or am I imagining that :)
@@tonymckenzieofficial Cheers :)
@@tonymckenzieofficial Although I am surprised that two devices with such huge price differences are almost the same in quality.
So as always BOSS uses here their own unknown proprietary DSP chip ? Or even chipset ?
Yes they do - and opening many Boss and Roland I always see them in there. Hard to get to the other one under the board on this unit, but it's all getting smaller and smaller. Boss are masters at that, and I guess its because they sell so much gear. Thanks...
My input and output level only goes halfway on the bar,is that normal,Tom Quailes went almost into the yellow level
check the global input level first...
Nice but I’ll stick with my GT100. To be totally honest I prefer my Eventide H9’s. Another great gear review my friend❤️🔥🕊
The GX-100 is a pretty good pedal and I liked that one quite a lot... you'll probably like this one... Thanks.
Great review !!!!! thnx !!!!! peace out !!!!
Thanks for watching - appreciated.
no stereo effects loop though... thats a bummer
Good point... thanks for watching.
No 'easy' answer I guess. Try another power source maybe...
@@tonymckenzieofficial I measured 9,3 DC volts in the powercord plugg..
Can someone tell me how to navigate my way to building my own signal chain instead of messing with the pre-sets?😊
Two steps forward, one turn left, two steps back, turn left again and hey presto... you're lost :)
AS ALWAYS MY THANKS TO YOU FROM OUR UKRAINE !!!
I like my GX-100. So far only the Pitch Shifter has disappointed me, but otherwise a solid product.
Agreed, it is a solid piece of gear for sure and the software was excellent too! Thanks for watching.
Helix Lt please
Maybe or not....
Thanks for another great review Tony, it is so close to making me buy one, but at the moment £499 is too much to spend
on what for me would be an expensive toy.
I only play at home, and only want clean tones with a bit of tape echo for the music that i play.
Perhaps the new Ampero or Nu-X will be better for my requirements.🙂
There are plenty of free amp/cab sims and IR loaders out there atm too. ;)
Thanks...
Fantastic job! Damn that software is slow compared to HX Edit. From what I've heard, the GX-100 does sound great though.
Boss is the Boss!!

used and compared this to the gt1000... the sound quality on the gt1000 is amazing compared to this. and being a tone snob i had no choice but to return the gx
I reckon the amp models on this sound better than the GT 1000

There are a ton of crappola videos for this new Boss unit.
Nice job telling it how it is by the Pro.
The old dodger in the back with spandex playing a 80s Charvel still could be someone we know.
Made in Malaysia !!!
:) Maybe better than China right now... China is on lock down again... one area 100 hospitals and they said 165,000 people in them. Sad really.
Hmmm listed to the demo at the end sounds like a cheap digital amp to me 🤷 we're you in tune? Sounds off.
Thanks...
🤣
Open them up... in another era they would be called dedicated computers.
Exactly right. That's one thing I can absolutely agree on... and at the level that's inside these things these days did you notice how small those components really were... out with the soldering iron and in with the hot air and microscope as Alex below commented. Thanks for watching.
Tony, the voice over quality is terrible in this one. Can’t comprehend anything you’re saying. What happened mate?
Microphone that was knocked in to the wrong setting... and only found out AFTER two days of recording. It happens and sorry about that - but it IS watchable because actually last night I watched it on a TV! :). Thanks for watching though and expect a return to decent audio next time.
Need to lose the reverb/echo in the video. Next to impossible to listen to.
I did have some problems re mic for sure. Thanks...
Things I Liked and Disliked about your video - I liked everything but disliked the audio, sounded like you were in an echo chamber.
Maybe someone could do a review of sound quality on your video...
🤣👎
You can't please everyone right? but most seem to like it all....
