    Docking is done today for many reasons and in a way to not cause harm or pain and was done when used to farm to keep from getting caught by machinery. I've shown and know this hitch and trust me when I say they are not trying to hurt pr damage a horse they have paid $60,000.00 for and I know they have spent more on one horse recently for their hitch and these horses have it better than most people do trust me

    Magnificent horses.

    Why have their beautiful tails been cut so short? They need their tails to swat at biting insects.

    Wow pretty awesome, does the breed have trouble growing decent tail , like appaloosas or do they trim it down to that. I like the size and build.

    • @barbarad4985
      @barbarad4985 3 роки тому

      Their manes and tails are naturally thick, but you rarely see it, because they often get cropped for shows.

      @@barbarad4985 Thanks Barbara ! I know nothing about this breed, but I really like their size and build. It's good to know they can grow a tail to swat flies, if a person wanted one for riding.

      @@stevieflax the breed itself is rarely used for riding, but it produces some great hybrids with other breeds and those are used under saddle. In Great Britain the Royal guard even uses Percheron/Cleveland Bay mixes. I have ridden a Percheron/Orlov trotter mix myself. And it's curious that the breed has two types of horses - the European lines are bulkier, whereas the American Percheron is leaner.

      Unfortunately many American draft horse owners/breeders still dock the tails= cut off some of the tail bone, which makes the tail shorter, but the rear end to appear bigger. In multi-hitch teams it reduces the chance that a horse can catch the line under the tail, but it also makes it much harder for the horse to swish off bugs.

      They will dock the tail to prevent them from getting it caught in there harness and other equipment. This is common in working dogs to it doesn't hurt the animal just a safety precaution.

    Are Percherons' tails naturally short?

      I used to exercise a Percheron. Sadly he was euthanized after trampling and killing a woman who was helping the owner unload him..

      @ALCRAN2010 2 роки тому

      @@emcasting2603 That sounds like a horrible experience. Was it a stallion ? I can't see euthanizing a horse for that. Maybe a rabid dog, but not a gentle giant.

    • @emcasting2603
      @emcasting2603 2 роки тому

      @@ALCRAN2010 he wasn’t a stallion. I was out of the picture when It happened but he was being sold due to divorce.
      All of the horses were being sold.
      The owners wife managed everything about the horses and the barn very well.
      I don’t recall him being seriously injured. Since it was several years ago I’m checking on that now to make sure it wasn’t a horse story!

    PERCHERONS UNLOADING/January 1st, 2021: One thumbdown = me. Please, HORSE-LOVERS, let the tails untouched, just as they are from their birth. The CREATOR didn't think of amputation when he made this lovely animal!

    Why do YOU cut their tails? Why?? Leave their natural beauty alone. That is the beauty of Percherons. Self centered for show sake.. Disheartening to the breed...
