I feel like people are gonna hate on me for this, but, oh well. I use spurs and a whip. Before hating and getting your triggered ass all out on me, read all of my comment. My mare is a very kind, gentle, extremely patient, and is a great jumper. However, I have to use a whip on her because she sometimes gets very lazy, and wont even advance even if I already gave her a whole walk (meaning 3-4 rounds of her walking around the arena for a warmup) for her to catch her breath. Her last rider, was not the best, she took her off the obstacles, and she sometimes does it, so a little kick in her bum for her to actually go to the obstacle makes her focus more. I use spurs because, she needs them, without them, she literally just walks around the ring. I don´t use my spurs and whip a lot, just when I need to. My leg is very steady, so I don´t hurt my mare when she jumps, gallops, trots, etc. I barely use the whip, since I only use it gently to tap her bum for her to stay focused. And she needs the spurs, because, If I don´t use them, she won´t move an inch. Now, if you´re gonna hate on me, feel free. Just letting you know, my mare is perfectly healthy, well trained, in excellent health, and, very well treated. And, yes, it IS her last rider´s fault for her to refuse the obstacle, but I have to teach her little by little, and she´s doing very good! Barely have to use it, but I have it just in case, and use it when I need it. Thank you for reading all of this, again, feel free to hate on me, but I won´t change my way of riding, because I don´t need to. My mare has excellent health, very good personality, and is my baby, I love her, I´d do anything for her.
I use spurs and sometimes a crop, and I hate it when people assume that you're using them to beat the horse or something. The kids in this video really don't even use the crop or spurs, and when they do, it's just a tap, not a big fat smack that hurts.
I don’t have a problem with spurs or crops, but these kids are so young and don’t have as much experience with jumping to have the privilege of wearing spurs and holding crops.
@@linessjustliness6032 how do you know?! Some of these kids could of been ridding sence that were 1 or younger like many! If thay can jump on horses than there plenty experienced to have a crop and spur
How are they so good?? It's not fair!! lol The ponies are sooooo cute!! I love the one the girl with the red jumper and black body protector is on!! xx It's a very cute vid!! xxx
the wee chestnut with the wee boy and the blue jumper on him looks so old :) i love old ponies taking kids far like that... reminds me of one of my first ponies!
So cute! And such good exercise for those little ponies who are so prone to becoming over weight! Good to see they are not jumping them too high either :)
Crops don't really hurt if you just give them little tap. It wakes the horses up and gets them moving. I think it's fine to use them when your horse is being sleepy or is not listening. But I absolutely don't agree with whipping them pointlessly!!
Actually, it's 'their'. As in, belongs to them xD "Look at THEIR hands" But I totally agree with what you're saying, I think these kids have realt talent!
+zayn_and_ pezz I find your statement seriously ignorant. Have you ridden every horse? No you have not. I've ridden some western pleasure horses in my lifetime that were so dog shit lazy you had to wear spurs just to keep them moving. Unless you've squeezed a horse with your legs for more than five minutes non stop only to keep one in a trot you really have no idea how tiring it is and how much lower body strength that actually requires. One lap around the arena and you're wore out. I've worked with some that don't care how hard you kick them to try to get them to move, but you put on a spur and all you need is a little nudge. It's like they just transformed into a different horse. For some horses just knowing you have them on is enough incentive for them to cut out their crap after they figure out you're wearing them. Then there are horses that if you wore spurs you'd be signing your death warrant. Spurs and whips are harmless when used properly by people educated in their use and are only as cruel as the person using them. They are nothing more than a tool used as a reinforcement of your aids. It is possible to ride with spurs on and not even use them, just as it is possible to ride with a whip and never use it. Also ponies and horses are pretty much two different creatures. Their mentalities differ. Horses tend to be more willing to give in while I've met a lot of ponies that just enjoy fighting with you. A few that have even turned it into a sport. Out of the 32 years I've been in the equestrian field I've only needed to use a whip or spurs with a handful of horses and ponies. I believe it's better and actually kinder to the animal if I only need to tap with a spur once then have to kick a horse all the way around the arena like a moron just to get one that is lazy and stubborn to change gaits. As a rule I want my horses light, I do not want to have to kick and jerk on them to get a response. I only want to tap or pick up a rein, if I have to use spurs to get that accomplished I will. The animals are usually happier in the long run even if they are being tapped with the spur then if they were constantly kicked by someone who thinks spurs or whips are mean. To me that's more abusive than a spur used properly.
Look you can use spurs when you have a steady leg. But these kid first of all don't need them and second of all their legs move all the time so they can hurt the little ponies. The whip however isn't so bad. They don't really use it in the video.
I use Spurs all the time and they probably get teached how to use them so think before you say things u don't know pls I'm also a riding coach so :) bye sweetie
I already ride 8 years and use spurs also. I just think little kids don't need them right now. Look at their legs. They touch the horse way to hard. If you think it's OK for them to use spurs then I won't judge you. My opinion: I don't think these kids have to use spurs. If you don't like my opinion. Fine but don't be so mean because you don't have to be mean. you can also say it to me in a relaxed way. not Bye Sweetie! you won't make lot's of friends like that...
Valeska Willner these r Shetland ponies if I am correct and this breed is stubborn and they don't love their lag on purpose u can see that they r purposely tapping the horse with their heel
EastCoast PonyLover try to move a stubborn sassy pony over a pole when you have literally no strength compared to the pony. I think they only used spurs for the competition because otherwise it would have been a really long day.
Lose the spurs honestly your jumping over practically poles on the floor and there like 5,6 and 7 years old on Shetland ponies you seriously don't need spurs I don't ride with spurs and I ride bigger horses than them and I jump bigger than that they clearly don't no the use for spurs seen as there stabbing the horses flesh no wonder the horse threw him off
Fiona Belbin all the horses Buck brannaman has trained, he didn't need any extra equipment such as spurs. That's why he is my inspiration. My uncle works with him and was trained by him.
It doesn't matter what size horse you all have, if you've ever ridden a pony you know how stubborn they are. I've ridden ponies pretty much all my life and I know someone is going to say that if I ride ponies I'm a little kid but no I'm 14 and I'm tiny only 4'11" so I'm put on the ponies. Ponies are the tinies, most stubbornness things ever and if these kids didn't have spurs or a crop they wouldn't move! Let alone jump, please know your situation before you jump to conclusions!
Fantastic! Every time that little chestnut jinks to the side I think the rider's going to pop out the side but they stay on. Bless them, confident little souls. I wonder what they are doing now. Thanks for putting it together :)
Awww! I remember my first pony. His name was Peanut and he was the most stubborn and annoying pony I have ever come across... But he was my stubborn and annoying pony. I loved him to death! He will always be in my heart now and forever!
omg they are so cute!!!!!!!!!! and the one at 0:14 is really good concerting that he doesn't have a saddle, he only has a pony pad (that is like being bareback)
These little 5 year old are actually pretty amazing riders lol
Othe than the one pulling on the reins
They all used the rains for balance.
I watched this so long thinking I would be a jumper. 4 years later I've been riding for 2 years and I'm a barrel racer and pole bender 😂
Equine Halle lol
I remember watching this years ago before I could jump and I though these were so big lol! Not anymore obviously heehee
OMG! I thought I was the only one hehe😂

Those kids have better seats than some adult riders.
So cute!

l have to say this is extremely cute.
