- What the heck is this thing I'm holding in the thumbnail? You'll find out through this day of exploring ruins with us! Today we are visiting the outstanding Gwalia museum where Steve breaks out the large format camera he's been hiding away in the Mercedes Sprinter van. Then its on towards Sandstone and Lake Mason as we follow the path of the old camel trains.
We have a convoy of eight vehicles including a Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 van, 200 series landcruiser, Isuzu Dmax and Nissan GQ Patrol. This is outback australian adventure at it's best, and an overlanding journey on many peoples bucket list.

This is the fifth of DAILY VIDEOS! where we are camping near an abandoned pub after the drive from Perth to Coolgardie. Over the course of a week you will see 7 videos exploring the Goldfields region of Western Australia. There will be ghost towns, gold mining, prospecting, bush camping and outback exploring all along the way.
I think you just raised the bar with this series. Well done thoroughly enjoying it
Wow, thanks Scott! 🙂
I really liked this episode. Something about the vibe. Rain on the corrugated tin buildings, coffee and buttered scones on the covered porch, the jaffel walk, and the history. I felt like I was there with you.
Cool
Man that camera Steve has is awesome
Yeah man! I knew people would really find it interesting seeing how he worked it 😁
@@Alex.G crazy world 60 years ago hey when we can just snap a pic on our phone
@@Alex.G I'd love to see a full 'rig run down' on that camera, very interesting stuff.
Hi Alex, have to say that the jaffles are definitely a hit. They sound delicious and add something different to your trip
Yeah they were a lot of fun! Simple to cook, but a fun challenge to make it new and exciting every day
Loving the town of Gwalia..... definitely on my "places to go" list :)
The camera was cool love to see the pic
Awesome series. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Thanks Dave, see you there in the comments 👊
Loving this series mate. That old camera was very cool. Good on him for still using it
Thanks 🙂 he was a military photographer and has SO much cool gear like this! And has a big dark room at home to develop it all 😁
@@Alex.G that is very cool. I haven’t been in a dark room or used film since high school lol.
This series is like nothing I’ve ever seen on UA-cam, very cool
He's done some good ones. I really like his John Holland track trip in period correct clothing.👍
Love the series mate
Cheers
Gwalia should be on the bucket list of anyone who is interested in our history. A really fascinating place. The difference between Hoover House and the miners shacks really shows how hard life was for ordinary workers. It would be great is the State Hotel could be incorporated in the overall display. When we visited it was just sitting empty and wasn't being looked after. Always kick myself for not spending a night in Hoover House. Loving re-visiting these places. I took plenty of stills out there but not nearly enough video.
Yeah that was my second time there and I'd go back! Definitely would spend a night in Hoover house 😀 we spoke to the lady manning the counter at the museum in there and she did say they are negotiating purchase of the State Hotel, so we may see it as part of the display yet!
Sons of Gwalia staff used the State Hotel as an office back in the 90’s. Last I seen it in good working order. Lawlers is south of Agnew. Near Pinnacles Station. Yet another open pit, however in 2018 when I was working at Agnew the Mill was about to fill the Pit with tailings. I lived in Sandstone not far from Agnew.
@@Alex.G Awesome, I really hope they get it done, it would really add to the already great things that have there.
Loved this episode, great stories and love the comedy!
This was my favourite day for sure 😁
Once again some great work with information and the music was out there awesome. Well done 👍
Yeah, a couple of hand made soundtracks in there as you may have figured 😂 Taylor and I doing a haunting piano piece, and then Mark was actually playing the piano in Hoover House while I filmed in there!
Great video. Hoover was in WA. That is fact I never learned in school. I really like the historical nuggets. Any size large shirts in yet?
Thanks again
Enjoying this series Alex thank you. Will you be at the 4WD show and will there be mercy for sale?
*merch
Thanks mate I appreciate the support 🙂 I won't be at the show this year unfortunately, I'll certainly miss having a good chat with all you guys!
I love the Fallout reference.
Oh mate! I'm listening to the fallout 3 soundtrack as I cook a barbeque (while responding to this comment in between)
@@Alex.G I love you so much right now. If only there wasn't a 4 day drive between us 😉
❤
Gwalia looks interesting. Would love to have a closer look of the van. I'm very surprised its actually a 4WD.
Yeah I'll try and organise to do a look around for everyone 🙂
@@Alex.G Cheers Ears. :)
That was a fun episode. Was it jam on cream or did you put the cream on the jam...in the scones. How cold was it then?
Oh man it's always Jam first 😁 allowing exceptions depending on the consistency of each. I do have a feeling a non-scone eater in the group may have stuffed it up this time around though.
Great series Alex.... really enjoyed the whole lot... !
Good onya Craig really appreciate the support buddy!
well filmed Alex, well filmed. From the land of Hoover.
👌
Mate, when I saw that big ore crusher! Wow! Wish I was out there. Great video, keep them comin. 😀
Yeah! Can you imagine the racket that thing would make? Nobody would have worn ear protection back then either 😬
Wow Alex great episode love the hoover story great looking BnB your eyes are a magnificent blue in the filming in this episode eyes of honest man
Cheers Peter! Yeah while I love ALL the gwalia story, it fascinates me the most that a former US president resided in such a nowhere town!
Pineapple and Brie.....I didn’t believe it until I tried it. Pretty damn good
Good job as allways
Thanks mate really appreciate it 🙂
Isnt it such an amazing place. We did that similar run July this year. Loved it. This has been great little adventure you have filmed. Enjoying it immensely.
Thanks Laurence and it really is incredible! There are a few awesome loops like this out there 😀
@@Alex.G you guys keep the brillliant work
I lived in gwallia in the 8ties the house is on this clip hahah memories
Haha wow! Probably hasn't changed much hey?
Great series Alex, would love to visit the goldfields some day. Long way from home in Melbourne, though I'm sure there's stuff near Melbourne that you'd love to explore some day.
Yeah it would be such a stark difference to the mountain country you have over there. All I've managed to do is explore 3 days out of Melbourne in a Hyundai Getz so I'd sure love to get back there in a 4WD sometime
Victorian high country should be on everyones list.
Tube Steak Jaffles?
This NEEDS to happen 😁
@@Alex.G And so it shall...
They call the bell a winder bell and differant amounts of rings tell the motor man what needs to be done example skip up or down and if miners were in the skip and what level to stop at
Ahhhhh yep that makes more sense!
more proof that aussies know more about american history, than americans.
Yeah that would be true for a lot of them!
Bye there is much better content on other channels
Cool story....I'm so sorry this free content wasn't up to your standards. Would you like a refund?
