I found this video helpful. On the other hand I find that this generation of games tends to lean towards crafting and for me, that is a waste of my time. Example: In 2001 I spent around $400 USD on bring home PC games without MMO! In 2012 I spent Almost $900 on MMO. Once I got past the Insane MMO expenses because I could never compete with the hackers, thieves, gift card reseller insanity I dropped MMO altogether! Leave them games for all the crook and rich folk types! And so it is 2022 and I get my best fix; For free with youtube ads of course (but I mute them so fast I rarely hear them) and I watch Glock 9, saven and raptor to name a few youtube gamers and this satisfys my gaming. You do all the work and I get to enjoy. (cheapest gaming fun)! What are your experiences folks? Please comment to make us all think!
"whip out your auger and start digging" That's what she said. Strip mining is great. Sometimes I look for a tripple iron rock cluster on the top. Usually has giant expanse of just iron underneath.
Tip: for the poi you should mark it on your map with a icon that would look like a poi and put the name as when you looted it and then change it again when you looted it again :)
honestly if you have an automatic weapon with good amounts of armor then u can easily raid any poi. Rushing higher tier quests gives u good rewards. I did a tier 5 clear zombies on dishong tower on day 36 mainly as i had an assault rifle with 1000 bullets, which made the quest relatively easy, only tough part was finding the last zombie. I did get a sniper rifle and auger for that. Bottom line, if you have the weapons and armor then u can do anything u want in 7dtd basically
I have a question- exactly when do you consider mid game? Is that determined by time in game or levels or game level or maybe even points acquired? Always great knowledge Saven, thanks!
My guess is, his definition of mid game is both your game stage and your progress lvl. But I've only been playing the game for about 60 hours. So I could be wrong. Seems about the stage im at. And im lvl 70ish. game stage 100ish. Getting decent quality loot but not the best in the game.
The answer to that question is rather subjective. I would probably base it on game stage/loot stage. Mid game would be around the 50ish mark for game stage/loot stage. Late game would be 100+ or thereabouts. But like I said, it is subjective.
As for the loot respawn, I would add the time as well, because sometimes it could happen that you go too early during that day, and restart the timer :(
I always try to stay active at all times, Sometimes i loot for multiple days and nights in a row before reserving the first 2 days before horde night its pure resource collection and base upgrades, i generally focus quests from the trader lately and am considering a movie into the snow biome after the day 21 horde.
Very good tips. The better barter is a great suggestion for the mid game as finding an Auger or Crucible naturally is nigh impossible. Another suggestion that I had for marking POIs, as you've looted one, you could put up a 2-high wall with a sign on it marking the day, or some other indicator with a sign so you know when to loot it next.
@@samuelneuin1988 True - I was thinking in the future creating a one-high barrier, 8 blocks out of wooden frames (maybe even upgrade them to Wooden Tier 2 for extra XP).
Relooting pois that have respawned loot is lame on single player since it stops you from exploring your map more, its only good on multiplayer servers. I would recommend going in your game files and turning loot respawn off of sp.
@@FireFeniX203 You could always come back the second day. Really nice if you're looting a place with lots of materials like cement or cobblestone ETC. I also use the reset to dig for clay because I don't want ugly holes near my base even if I can't see them over the hill or something.
"Upgrade to steel" In my midgames, I'm nowhere near getting a crucible, so all I have are the few bars I get from harvesting, which barely make one or two blocks worth...
If you don't already have one (don't think i missed one yet) maybe consider a quick and dirty how to save your game video would help some folks. Maybe as important as anything else in the game. (Just had to recover mine).
Holding back on quest tiers also means that you delay the discovery of new traders. That is ill advice, as traders are an important potential source for the must-have items. You want to have at least 3 traders available ASAP, especially if your game stage increases quickly.
You can also go exploring urself. Find a city, quite often they will have a trader. Take for example my game, my initial trader suddenly gave me a 1.8km NW quest, I went there, completely new city. Also had a new trader in it. That trader in turn gave me a SW quest, which also ended me up in another city with another trader. I was still at T1 quests at this point, but already had found 3 traders.
@@VirusHD You were rather lucky then. Many cities don't have a trader, and running around early in the game before you have a vehicle costs time. And it is dangerous, depending on your game settings (zombie strength and speed). Holding back on tier 1&2 quests is ill advice from Saven regardless: New tier of quests comes after 10 quests, whether you complete them in a day or a week - so there is no benefit in holding back.

Quests are not worth it in the slightest until at least 3 upgrades into the quest rewards skill tier, and getting up to tier 3 quests before gamestage 60 is a waste since the clears take way too long. Way better off looting Poi's you know where the end loot is and pole to the top/sell the stuff to the trader to get dukes early than doing quests. I Don't think Ive ever had a playthrough where by day 7 I didn't already have at least a bike or minibike bought from the trader from dukes I got by looting, or where I had less than 2/3 traders unlocked
@@VirusHD I don't cheat my way to the main loot cause it makes the game too easy. I did it in the first couple of hundred hours of playing 7D2D, but not anymore. And without doing that, the quest rewards are worth it for sure, for gear, ammunition and money. Rushing to Tier 3 quests not only gives you 3 traders without wasting time scouting around, it also gives you (normally) 10 extra times to raid the "bookhouse" (house_modern_05) and then 10 times the church to get the books and schematics that are needed for the end game. But it all depends on the settings. If you are playing anything else than permadeath, nightmare difficulty and insane zombie speed (and to a lesser degree horde every night), the game gets so easy that any strategy works.
@@maxzweistein8951 i mean, i personally prefer zombies to not be on insane because my idea of difficult doesn't mean being a bullet sponge. I wish the difficulty affected the AI more than how spongey they are. I do agree it varies on settings, however I'd say the average 7dtd player benefits more from holding off on quests, whereas the seasoned players can rush it. Seasoned players can do a full t5 in 12 hours ingame with a base baseball bat, meanwhile the average player will only get halfway in that time even using an auto shotgun/tac rifle/m60
I'm new to the game and the last tip, which is marking the map i did discover it by accident. It's really easy to lose track which building you looted. Instead of marking them as Days, i just mark them an X then named it Looted then insert a number (Looted 1, 2, 3, and so on.) Btw, very helpful tricks and tricks. 👍 (I'm already at Day 10 and collecting some ammo for my Ak and pistol)
Could you make a video of late game fortresses? I've made your Death Hole base and it worked great, but now I wanna try other bases, perhaps with some useful traps
Horde base tip: (If it is possible) just dig a ditch around a trader, at least 3 deep and 4 wide, but deeper and wider the better is. Now you are protected against everything that does not jump far or vomit and fly. The only thing that can be destroyed now is bridge or whatever you build to get zombies one place and kill them.
Another way to mark a POI that you want to loot again without cluttering up your compass with markers is by bringing a writeable box with you and mark it with the day the loot will respawn.
Quite a bit late, but another method for marking looted POI's and when they'll respawn next is by placing a wooden sign on the POI and writing down that necessary info; that way your map won't be clogged with permanent waypoints.
I've made the mistake of speccing into things you don't need to, you will find a crucible..get to game stage 11, do the quests, build a good base, if you find yourself needing points, mine and upgrade, then do more quests, I am on number 3 of my tier 5 quests, level 77 game stage 168, 3839 kills ,quests are easier than trying to free loot a tier 5, they are tough as can be but the quests are fairly easy, bought a T3 Vulture at level...25?..haven't looked back, all the batter up books are objectively the best series to complete, power attacks fill stam...smash smash smash, beer and sham chowder ftw, my first time getting this far in the quests, coming out of the shotgun Messiah with 2 broke bones, not infected, well fed and another yucca smoothie to ease the pain 💪
Before u do clear zm mission go to that point clear it and loot before u hit start mark. Than hit start mark once looted and it will reset object and u can do loot and clear 1 more time.
All good tips, however, I play on disabled loot respawn/200% loot availability. soooo, that last tip... but still, good tips are good tips, even if they don't benefit ME.
Can someone who actually knows this for sure answer me this. Is a fireaxe and steel axe considered melee weapons for sake of sexy rex. And even other things like flurry blows etc.
it's good tip with strip mining, but as i know no matter what distance is ogre would trigger screamer spawning. would it happen during strip mining? usually i dig down to bedrock and mining there, but it is not very convenient neither And marking POI's on map is not convenient, because then a lot of X'ses will be shown on direction bar and it's not good. I personally always disable loot re spawn option but i like to mark POI's to know that it was looted already. so i am carrying with me paintbrush and painting some symbol on every side of POI, so that i could see from distance, that it is already looted. unfortunately there is no option to draw digits or words with paintbrush but it is possible to make your own system to mark a day this way.
Day 36 is much more believable for mid game than day 1 was for your late game tutorial. don't think that wasn't the first thing I looked for. I really hope they add the option to pick what tier you want. I love running tier 4's, but I hate it when i am only offered four tier 5's and a tier 1.
Question for you: if I loot a POI on let's say day 10, but I get a trader quest which allows me to reset it on day 20, does loot respawn 30 days from the original loot date which would make it day 40? Or does it go off of when it was last reset, and on day 20 that would mean the normal loot comes back on day 50 now instead of 40? I guess more simply, does loot respawn day change if it gets reset mid-way through the normal 30-day period?
What's up Saven how has it been? Over all I am on Game Stage 400 and it's become quite interesting. I find it useful to open up trader routes. Yes the IV and V quests are long and kind of annoying more than anything. Clearing out Zombies that you didn't see on the way is a pain in the ass to go back and find. Hence why it's nice to have an Auger to just drill to the enemy. LOL
I'm hanging in there! At game stage 400, you should have a great setup to take on those top tier quests. I agree that they can be rather annoying at times, however.
Saven, I've gone through tons of your videos. Being new to 7 days they have made me a more efficient player by far. I'd love to see a video of some of the better poi's for loot. I've explored so much and feel like I'm still missing so much haha. What are some of the areas you go to, to find some of the better loot? And how do we get to the house on the hill in the snow biome ?? 🤣🤣 without the gyro!?
I wish they would give us the option to mark POI's without them cluttering up the HUD. I like that ideavof marking the days but it makes the HUD unusable

@@diabetichamm3776 The correct term for this is actually Mountaintop Mining (MTM) or Mountaintop Removal Mining (MRM). Strip mining is technically a type of surface mining, not underground. Minecraft users have incorrectly used this term since the beginning, but of course it makes some sense as you are mining in "strips". A more appropriate term for this would be "Room and Pillar" mining or or even "Stope and Pillar". Perhaps it's even more like "Longwall" Mining how most of us play.
im on day 49, still havent got a crucible... my first time playing i guess i got everything late.. i got a workbench on day 14, a forge on day 21, a cement mixer on day 28.. im still using wooden spikes, pit traps and bow & arrow & blunderbuss to defend my base.. only recently got a bicycle and havent explore much of the map yet.. maybe like 1/6th? should i have 2 bases? one for living one for defending? also mining.. i saw a video saying to go to level 25.. but i find nothing but rock under the first 3-4 layers... i tried digging a mine under my base and the roof of my high up building collapsed... i dunno if due to the mine 30 floors below or due to my farmplots i put on the roof.. i never used those storage boxes yet.. i was using the secure chest things cos they are cheaper to build... but they take up a lot of space and cant put names on them i think
@@ghostwolf9664 im on my second playthru now... i only use a mace and a bow... i use a mace in my strength horde base and mace & bow in poi's using stealth.. i still have hardly ever used any mines grenades traps or guns.. i just store all the ammo i find.. i also quite often dont even do horde night.. i just go on the roof of a poi get rid of all the ways up to the roof and just sit out the night maybe build a small concrete hut to protect me from birds... sometimes i dig right to the lowest level & fill above me with concrete and just mine the whole horde night... works pretty well.. why defend your base and waste tons of resources having to rebuild everything when you dont need to?
Yo I got a question I'm playing on alpha 15 with my Xbox they ont update the Xbox version for some reason and I don't know if our version has the nameable storage boxes? Do we have this I swear I looked?
Totally disagree with the quest tip, you get consistently better rewards for higher tier quests and you can always do earlier tier quests if you want to, there’s basically no reason not to level up your quest tier
I typically drop a wood frame block at the front of a POI if looting is still in progress and I need to come back. I upgrade the block once if the building is fully looted/salvaged. I only really take note of the bigger POIs like factories when worrying about the 30-day respawn times, as there are usually around 8 full towns/cities or so in the bigger maps, so finding loot is rarely an issue.
Yeah I'm really looking forward to A20. They are supposed to be adding to trader quests. We are going to have access to 5 quests for each tier we have unlocked. If you've unlocked tier 5, you'll have 5 tier 1, 5 tier 2, 5 tier 3, 5 tier 4, and 5 tier 5 to choose from. That'll be nice!
is there a reason you put your ladder on the inside of the mountain for strip mining instead of outside? i did a bit of mining in the desert one whole day but i was digging a huge hole.. i got a lot of resources but, i got attacked by screamers and nearly killed couldnt get out of my hole quick enough... i recently found a level 1 auger.. is it just repair kits to repair it? does it break quicker? should i stick with iron pickaxe for now or only use the auger? is it using gasoline? thanks
@@xNovaSounds apart from horde night... i built a small base once on top of the steepest highest mountain i could find thinking id have hours of waiting while they tried to tunnel up from the ground.. instead they just all immediately spawned right on top of me and i died in 5 seconds.
@@tigrecito48 Yeah, the zombies spawn on dirt/clay/sand. So on horde night it spawns them right on top of you, as close as they can. To mitigate this, you could cover the whole mountain top with concrete or flagstone. But then they'll probably just attack the mountain base until the whole thing comes crashing down. Strip mines are great on mountains, bases are better built inside the mountain with concrete walls and traps along the way.
@@xNovaSounds the best way ive found of just avoiding the horse once youve already got iron or steel pickaxe and cobblestone or concrete & stamina perks is just to dig straight down and refill in the hole and they just mine sideways the whole night.. not only do you waste only a few resources but you gain resources from mining instead of losing them from your base being damaged... if you dont stand in one play for too long, the zombies instead of digging closer & closer to you, they dig back upawards again and then back downwards.. so far theyve never even got close to me even with irradiated zombies etc
Dumb beginner question.... what is difference between home and horde bases???? how do the zombies know ONLY to attack the "Horde" base on horde nights???
The zombies aren't attacking your base. They are attacking the player, wherever you may be. I personally like to create 2 bases: a home base where you store your stuff and craft resources; and a Horde base to fend off the zombie jerks on Horde night.
Why upgrade your home base to steel? Flagstone is enough, even on insane difficulty. What will attack there, except an odd wandering horde or a screamer? If you can't quickly take out those, you should play candy crush.
Actually I dont think this game is good enough to go mid game lmaooo, the latest me n my friend got was day 25 and stopped for a bout 2 months, because after you get all the vehicles the game is pointless.

One rank of Master Chef is a godsend. Bacon and Eggs, as well as Red Tea are so good. I recommend it for any solo players.

Good addition! I usually wait until the day after the reset day just to be safe but marking the time as well would work.
To be safer and not mess around with numbers too much so it becomes a headache, just type in the next day of the reset.

Depending on the POI, care would have to be used to prevent getting within the 8 block radius to keep it from respawning

I don't know if it was changed, I've taken a lot of breaks during A21, but you can go back to previous tiers on the quests. That is a thing now.

Loot the POI without activating the quest and then loot the POI after activating the quest.

This design idea does work. However it is extremely time consuming to build.
And here I thought strip mining meant that when you lose at mining you remove an article of clothing :P

I'm researching game mods. Need to educate myself a bit more before I start making videos on the subject though.
I've made the mistake of speccing into things you don't need to, you will find a crucible..get to game stage 11, do the quests, build a good base, if you find yourself needing points, mine and upgrade, then do more quests, I am on number 3 of my tier 5 quests, level 77 game stage 168, 3839 kills ,quests are easier than trying to free loot a tier 5, they are tough as can be but the quests are fairly easy, bought a T3 Vulture at level...25?..haven't looked back, all the batter up books are objectively the best series to complete, power attacks fill stam...smash smash smash, beer and sham chowder ftw, my first time getting this far in the quests, coming out of the shotgun Messiah with 2 broke bones, not infected, well fed and another yucca smoothie to ease the pain 💪

Before u do clear zm mission go to that point clear it and loot before u hit start mark. Than hit start mark once looted and it will reset object and u can do loot and clear 1 more time.

You can change when loot can be looted again. I have mine at 5. It is easy to change. It is in the menue before you start a game.

All good tips, however, I play on disabled loot respawn/200% loot availability. soooo, that last tip... but still, good tips are good tips, even if they don't benefit ME.
Can someone who actually knows this for sure answer me this. Is a fireaxe and steel axe considered melee weapons for sake of sexy rex. And even other things like flurry blows etc.
it's good tip with strip mining, but as i know no matter what distance is ogre would trigger screamer spawning. would it happen during strip mining? usually i dig down to bedrock and mining there, but it is not very convenient neither And marking POI's on map is not convenient, because then a lot of X'ses will be shown on direction bar and it's not good. I personally always disable loot re spawn option but i like to mark POI's to know that it was looted already. so i am carrying with me paintbrush and painting some symbol on every side of POI, so that i could see from distance, that it is already looted. unfortunately there is no option to draw digits or words with paintbrush but it is possible to make your own system to mark a day this way.

Day 36 is much more believable for mid game than day 1 was for your late game tutorial. don't think that wasn't the first thing I looked for.
I really hope they add the option to pick what tier you want. I love running tier 4's, but I hate it when i am only offered four tier 5's and a tier 1.

Question for you: if I loot a POI on let's say day 10, but I get a trader quest which allows me to reset it on day 20, does loot respawn 30 days from the original loot date which would make it day 40? Or does it go off of when it was last reset, and on day 20 that would mean the normal loot comes back on day 50 now instead of 40? I guess more simply, does loot respawn day change if it gets reset mid-way through the normal 30-day period?
The respawn timer would reset meaning it would be relootable on day 50.
What's up Saven how has it been? Over all I am on Game Stage 400 and it's become quite interesting. I find it useful to open up trader routes. Yes the IV and V quests are long and kind of annoying more than anything. Clearing out Zombies that you didn't see on the way is a pain in the ass to go back and find. Hence why it's nice to have an Auger to just drill to the enemy. LOL
I'm hanging in there! At game stage 400, you should have a great setup to take on those top tier quests. I agree that they can be rather annoying at times, however.
Saven, I've gone through tons of your videos. Being new to 7 days they have made me a more efficient player by far. I'd love to see a video of some of the better poi's for loot. I've explored so much and feel like I'm still missing so much haha. What are some of the areas you go to, to find some of the better loot? And how do we get to the house on the hill in the snow biome ?? 🤣🤣 without the gyro!?
With the change to the loot progression system, there really isn't such a thing as "better loot" I do have a list of quick loot locations coming soon.
I wish they would give us the option to mark POI's without them cluttering up the HUD.
I like that ideavof marking the days but it makes the HUD unusable

@@diabetichamm3776 The correct term for this is actually Mountaintop Mining (MTM) or Mountaintop Removal Mining (MRM). Strip mining is technically a type of surface mining, not underground. Minecraft users have incorrectly used this term since the beginning, but of course it makes some sense as you are mining in "strips". A more appropriate term for this would be "Room and Pillar" mining or or even "Stope and Pillar". Perhaps it's even more like "Longwall" Mining how most of us play.
im on day 49, still havent got a crucible... my first time playing i guess i got everything late.. i got a workbench on day 14, a forge on day 21, a cement mixer on day 28.. im still using wooden spikes, pit traps and bow & arrow & blunderbuss to defend my base.. only recently got a bicycle and havent explore much of the map yet.. maybe like 1/6th? should i have 2 bases? one for living one for defending? also mining.. i saw a video saying to go to level 25.. but i find nothing but rock under the first 3-4 layers... i tried digging a mine under my base and the roof of my high up building collapsed... i dunno if due to the mine 30 floors below or due to my farmplots i put on the roof.. i never used those storage boxes yet.. i was using the secure chest things cos they are cheaper to build... but they take up a lot of space and cant put names on them i think

@@ghostwolf9664 im on my second playthru now... i only use a mace and a bow... i use a mace in my strength horde base and mace & bow in poi's using stealth.. i still have hardly ever used any mines grenades traps or guns.. i just store all the ammo i find.. i also quite often dont even do horde night.. i just go on the roof of a poi get rid of all the ways up to the roof and just sit out the night maybe build a small concrete hut to protect me from birds... sometimes i dig right to the lowest level & fill above me with concrete and just mine the whole horde night... works pretty well.. why defend your base and waste tons of resources having to rebuild everything when you dont need to?
I will be strip mining from now on. Brilliant.

Yo I got a question I'm playing on alpha 15 with my Xbox they ont update the Xbox version for some reason and I don't know if our version has the nameable storage boxes? Do we have this I swear I looked?
Writable storage containers are not available on the console version, unfortunately.
Do regular houses reset? Or just the bigger named places? I know that houses reset if you have a quest there, at the very least
All POIs reset according to your loot respawn settings
Totally disagree with the quest tip, you get consistently better rewards for higher tier quests and you can always do earlier tier quests if you want to, there’s basically no reason not to level up your quest tier
In A19, you could not take lower tier quests. Having 5 quests available for each unlocked tier was not introduced until A20.

Haha yeah they can clutter up your compass and map. Wish the would give us an option to toggle them on and off.
I typically drop a wood frame block at the front of a POI if looting is still in progress and I need to come back. I upgrade the block once if the building is fully looted/salvaged. I only really take note of the bigger POIs like factories when worrying about the 30-day respawn times, as there are usually around 8 full towns/cities or so in the bigger maps, so finding loot is rarely an issue.
The way quest tiers work is pretty weird. They should never offer more than 1 quest of tier 5, as it will usually take more than a day to complete.
Yeah I'm really looking forward to A20. They are supposed to be adding to trader quests. We are going to have access to 5 quests for each tier we have unlocked. If you've unlocked tier 5, you'll have 5 tier 1, 5 tier 2, 5 tier 3, 5 tier 4, and 5 tier 5 to choose from. That'll be nice!
is there a reason you put your ladder on the inside of the mountain for strip mining instead of outside? i did a bit of mining in the desert one whole day but i was digging a huge hole.. i got a lot of resources but, i got attacked by screamers and nearly killed couldnt get out of my hole quick enough... i recently found a level 1 auger.. is it just repair kits to repair it? does it break quicker? should i stick with iron pickaxe for now or only use the auger? is it using gasoline? thanks
He put the ladder on the inside so that he can mine the mountain from the top down. The walls are steep so the screamer can't get to you up there
@@xNovaSounds apart from horde night... i built a small base once on top of the steepest highest mountain i could find thinking id have hours of waiting while they tried to tunnel up from the ground.. instead they just all immediately spawned right on top of me and i died in 5 seconds.
@@tigrecito48 Yeah, the zombies spawn on dirt/clay/sand. So on horde night it spawns them right on top of you, as close as they can. To mitigate this, you could cover the whole mountain top with concrete or flagstone. But then they'll probably just attack the mountain base until the whole thing comes crashing down. Strip mines are great on mountains, bases are better built inside the mountain with concrete walls and traps along the way.
@@xNovaSounds the best way ive found of just avoiding the horse once youve already got iron or steel pickaxe and cobblestone or concrete & stamina perks is just to dig straight down and refill in the hole and they just mine sideways the whole night.. not only do you waste only a few resources but you gain resources from mining instead of losing them from your base being damaged... if you dont stand in one play for too long, the zombies instead of digging closer & closer to you, they dig back upawards again and then back downwards.. so far theyve never even got close to me even with irradiated zombies etc
Dumb beginner question.... what is difference between home and horde bases???? how do the zombies know ONLY to attack the "Horde" base on horde nights???
The zombies aren't attacking your base. They are attacking the player, wherever you may be. I personally like to create 2 bases: a home base where you store your stuff and craft resources; and a Horde base to fend off the zombie jerks on Horde night.

Can you remove markers you do not need anymore.
Yes you can. Go to your map, select the waypoint you would like to remove, and click the remove button from the icons above your waypoints list.

That is subjective, but I would say game stage/loot stage around 50ish is mid game.

Why upgrade your home base to steel? Flagstone is enough, even on insane difficulty. What will attack there, except an odd wandering horde or a screamer? If you can't quickly take out those, you should play candy crush.

Actually I dont think this game is good enough to go mid game lmaooo, the latest me n my friend got was day 25 and stopped for a bout 2 months, because after you get all the vehicles the game is pointless.
