So is it ideal? No. But I doubt you'd be anywhere close to shocked if you saw adults play 11yo girls 'cause it would be nowhere near believable (which is a huge thing in french cinema). So most people would end up not caring about the issue and wouldn't do anything to stop it. Which was the point of this movie.

@@celia18881. “Not really considering that the problem they’re trying to talk about is partly caused by adults pretending to be children giving children a bad example of how to act.”
Here’s why that’s wrong. This was trying to speak against young girls being exposed to inappropriate behavior and content early in life. Not once did anyone say anything about adults pretending to be kids and influencing them in that manner, though I do agree that it’s the adults on social media and whatnot who are exposing these kids to inappropriate content and behavior. Edit: If you were trying to say that kids watching this may think it’s okay to do that themselves after watching, well the age rating was mature, so no child should be watching this.
      2. “They also made sure to have a full team of psychologists to help the kids.”
How is that better? Yeah, sure they at least tried to make sure the kids felt alright about what they were doing but 1, they are not old enough to have consented to doing what they were told to do, and 2, if you need a team of psychologist to justify putting a child through that experience, the child is probably better off not doing said action/experience.
      3. “I’m also not sure you realize how common this is for kids. Most of these girls already went through that phase (which is part of why they had the skills already). It’s not news to them as it seems to be for you. It’s their reality.”
You may not have considered this, but you don’t know me and I don’t know you. We are interacting strictly on this platform and know nothing about each other. You may not have known that I am a girl as well and only a few years older than the girls in this movie. I know exactly how common it is. I’ve seen this in my classrooms, friends, and other girls at one point or another. Going through that phase does not give an underage child the right to give consent to these actions. They may know how aperent this problem is in our society and they may know how it feels to go through it, but that never ever gives them the right to consent to sexual actions as someone who is underaged. (Side note: The “It’s not news for them as it seems to be for you,” comment, while incorrect, was a pretty good comeback, I’ll give you that.)
As for the rest of your comment, I do agree with almost everything else you said. Yes, people might be a little shocked at how adults are playing children, but it’s much better than children doing things they cannot give permission to do. But saying no one would end up caring (in France) because of the unrealistic age, I don’t think is true. I’ve seen plenty of movies and shows where the actor is older than the character, yet most the time (depending on the genre that is) I cry anyways because I know the struggle they are presenting to be true.

You could even make it really jarring by switching during a scene where the kids are just being kids, to show how society is seeing them and treating them as adults. Or have one of them look in a mirror and ‘see’ an adult reflection looking back to show how she already sees herself as much older.

Psycho was made in the 60s and they made a scene where a naked character is killed. By using clever camera work and editing nothing explicit is seen but you know what happened. Why couldn’t they’ve done something similar here, they could’ve shown some dance moves that weren’t that bad and then shown the reaction to it and we would get the same effect but without having to actually watch

I remember using a site called Google+ when I was in middle school. These men knew my age and still proceeded to harass me and ask very inappropriate questions about my "fetishes" and tried to solicit nude pictures from me. I went on thinking I could find other people my age to talk to. While I did meet a really awesome friend who I'm still in contact with to this day, I feel absolutely disgusted that people are still trying to harass children online. If I had a Death Note, I'd write down the names of the entire adult cast and crew - including the production personnel. After that, I'd follow with:
      - the custodial parents/guardians of the children involved
      * that doesn't mean I'll write down all of their parents' names; just the ones that had custody of the kids at the time. Odds are they're the ones that allowed them to be in that movie.
      * in cases of divorce, it's a safe bet to assume that the non-custodial parent was not okay with it. Unless evidence otherwise surfaces, I'd rather not risk killing an innocent man or woman.
      - all Netflix executives
      * they allowed this illegal content on their platform and did nothing.
      - all the lawyers connected to this, since they clearly aided and abetted Netflix in a heinous crime.

a teenager here in the Philippines just watched Jeffrey Dahmer documentaries and he ACTUALLY murdered his little brother and shoved the body into the washing machine. the upsetting part: he even RECORDED his murder on his phone and posted online on his Facebook account.

The entire movie is played out like a normal “young love” type movie and at the end it shows the two people meet up and it reveals that it’s a young child that’s been manipulated by an adult and as the screen fades to black it shows the amount of times stuff like this has happened and shows pictures of young kids that had to live though it.
Like they meet up in the park and it looks like a handsome man and a beautiful woman and the woman says
      “wow you look so handsome”
      “Oh thank you”
“We should hang out together at my house and maybe get to know each other”
“Oh uh I don’t think I should I have to go home after this”
“As but that would make me so sad :(“
And they keep meeting at this park and become good friends then he finally agrees to go to her house and it just shows the girl taking off the guys shirt as he looks uncomfortable then it shows what happens later and instead of a man being there it’s a child that looks scared.
It could probably be a short film to make people more aware about the dangers of predators and the tactics they might use.
(Also I put it as a girl being a predator bc a lot of people only hear about men being predators while women are as well)

Believe me, I’ve tried reporting as much harmful content as I could find, but I ended up crying for a whole day because I had to take a look at it and those images and or stories horrified me. I'm sure you could make the agurment that a relglion leads to this without pushing a 11 year old being sexual. Plus, the whole marrying thing is kinda outdated in Senegal (like only 35.2% of men still do it and this was data in 2015?) and there's no gatherings like this that tell girls they have to be submissive in Senegal from what I have gathered.

There are two simple things that would easily make this film actually make its actual intended message make a point:
    1. Use actors who are actually 18 + but look very young. Then you at least have actual consent
    2. Use the camera motions, the cuts, the parallels to emphasize how disturbing it actually is
The line between fetish and commentary may be thin, but it is a line and as someone who loves to write/read horror dealing with complex situations, you need to be careful of how you make these things

The fact that that guy admitted that is confirmation that portraying young girls in a sexual way and glorifying it (which makes other kids want to be like them to be normal, cool, or fit in because they dont understand it makes men see them as sex objects.) For one thing I would say about the outfits the girls wore: it's not usually bad for kids to wear "revealing" clothes. Sometimes a kid wears what they like - the issue is that given what the entire movie was portraying, we don't see what the kids wear as "a personal style", we see "skimpy outfits for way too young of girls".

What happens do Suzan is a lot more violent, in the sense that the guy not just looks at her in a sexual manner but abused and ended up killing her but guess what? We didn't see anything. We didn't NEED to. We saw him planning everything, catching her, but then we just see her ghost running away. That's it. We don't need to see him doing what he did. We see their past victims and there's no need to explain what happened. We KNOW what happened. They show how she was innocent and oblivious, how sickening he was, but we never NEVER get a scene showing him hurting her. It's a disturbing film, yes, but it is done right.

dancing is an art form that's very flexible. and yes, it includes that kind of dancing, but that is not the only kind. they could've at least shown the more pg side of dancing first before letting the girls explore the newer, unfamiliar ground.

*In case you're wondering what I mean by "Dawson Casting", it's essentially when young characters are played by actors that are older (example: a 20 year old person playing a 15 year old character). The reason I say it would've been much more effective, is because, and I'm letting TV Tropes take it away on this one, "[...] it is generally illegal to show even simulated sex on film (including animation in many countries) unless all of the involved individuals are at least at the minimum age of consent. Having adults play the characters allows the filmmakers to depict various behaviors on camera that would get them arrested if even one of the actors turned out to be under the age of consent."
