    It looks great! All the plants look lovely, and love the way it turned out. If I was a gecko, I’d be super happy inside 😊. Can’t wait for more updates! Super cool.

    hi there ! mopani wood will mold if wet or dampened, it’s natural & springtails should help but i don’t use it in tropical enclosures just because of the molding. love your set up & good luck to you !

    Love the tank ! Just a thought tho .. it is better to keep a baby crested gecko in a smaller tank or tub. Baby to 10 grams is good for a shoebox tub and once it is about 10 grams or more then a bigger tub or 12x18 tank then 20 grams the adult tank. Not saying this isn’t okay. Just make sure to check the food and make sure it’s eating regularly . Sometimes babies have a hard time finding the food or won’t eat because the stress of a big open environment. But it is a very beautiful tank and love all the different kinds of plants !

    If you keep your gecko at 70%+ all the time you may run into shed and upper respiratory issues. They need a drying out period most of the day (30-40%) and a spike at night.

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  Місяць тому

      Who said it's 70%+? My humidity is around 50% and he hasn't had any shed issues.

    this is so helpful for a beginner to bioactive tanks, and makes it feel very manageable and less scary to do!! Quick question, once you silicone something to the tank is it possible to take it off? the idea of permanently altering the tank is scary to me lol

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  Рік тому

      Glad you found it helpful! Silicone is easy to to take off glass using a glass scraper 🙂

    Your so kind and chill that I think it would have been hilarious if when you were adding the drainage layer and said " I don't think that's enough to even cover the bottom"............if you screamed super loud and walked out lol.

    Is there any concern with the isopods and springtails getting out of the enclosure?

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  Рік тому +1

      Not if you have a well built tank. Even if they do get out they won't last long since they need moisture to survive

    Would white knight philodendron be ok to house and grow with a gecko?

  • @melaniemaitre8983
    @melaniemaitre8983 Рік тому +1

    When dealing with a bioactive enclosure, how do I stop springtails from getting everywhere? I'm adopting a crested gecko who already lives in her bioactive enclosure, and I am puzzled even after research. For example, when I take a piece of wood out, will the springtails fall on the floor and infest my house?

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  Рік тому

      Springtails need moisture to survive. They will stay in the enclosure where they have the conditions they need. Any that get outside accidentally won't live very long. Don't worry, your house won't get infested 🙂

    Question... For long term maintenance...does the substrate have to be replaced to keep the plants alive? or fertilized with something???

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  9 місяців тому +1

      The gecko and isopods provide the fertilizer! I think people say you should replace the substrate eventually but it lasts a long time. My frog vivarium I've had for about 4 years and everything is still healthy. Some people keep terrariums for 50+ years (although that's without a gecko inside)

    How did the plant on the cork still survive?

    • @gennasplants
      @gennasplants  Рік тому +1

      I mist/soak the cork with water every day and the roots get enough water from that

  • @Ashley-tl2kz

    just a tip! to ensure your gecko is eating at this young age, a tupperware box (not so big you cant find your gekko easily), with air holes of course, should be sufficient. paired with hand feeding it'll only go amazingly! ensure its getting the nutrients it needs and also taming in the process!!
