I love that you’re willing to try knitting a sweater and socks. These are two things that have haunted me for years. Am now successful with socks and will do a sweater next. Yah!
Thanks, Adrienne. Congratulations on the socks. It’s no easy thing, is it? And it’s enjoyable to me. Are you on Ravelry…have we connected there?
Have you checked out For the FUN of Knit? I enjoy her. I also like the Knitty Kats. There's also Ali's two channels-This Little Wonderful Life and Little Drops of Wonderful. Knit Sip Happy is good, as is Bobble Head Knits. Your knitting is lovely, and you are very adventurous. Love your videos.
Oooh I love the channel recommendations! Thank you. I appreciate your kind words. Thanks so much for watching!
Mimi again, just want to say that it seems the exception might be socks which need that bit of nylon to wear well. Although i just learned there is a yarn company advertising biodegrade polyamide which is another name for nylon. Perhaps it's plant based like rayon and tencel? More research needed on my part!
We can all learn together!
Mimi, that’s fascinating! Please let me know what you find out!
I looked at the K & C yarn when I was at Joann. I have never used it, but it seems like a really nice cotton yarn. In between knitting socks I am also working on a Crochet Sunburst Granny Square bag. I am using the Lion Brand 24/7 cotton. First time with the 24/7 cotton but I really like it. I used a gift card to by most of the yarn on Amazon, but ending up going to Joann to get a couple of colors that were not on Amazon or were actually cheaper at Joann with the sale. I would have considered the K&C yarn had I seen it previously or worked with it. There is nothing like seeing and feeling a yarn in person. I wish Joann had even more colors of both yarns. I am like a kid that wants the Crayons in every possible color! LOL. Your vest is coming along nicely. The more you knit different projects the more you'll understand what a designer's pattern is instructing. I have found that most patterns are written with the assumption that everyone understands how to do these things. We don't in the early part of our knitting journey. I don't know how I ever knit a first pair of socks, because I had no how to pick up gusset stiches. I've found there is 3 ways you can do this. So I guess that is why patterns are not always specific as how to do a task. Because it can be done usually more than one way.
I can now say I’m a fan of the K&C cotton yarn. And it’s still on sale. I’m a fan because it isnt like rough and stringy the way other cotton yarns feel…like that Sugar & Cream cotton yarn. I’m curious to see how dense and/or heavy it ultimately makes the t-shirt I’m knitting.
I am also like a kid with the array of colors!!! I am getting the idea that different designers have different ways of writing patterns. The designer Ashley Lillis is making some assumptions that I just didn’t know in this particular vest pattern.
Socks are a frontier that I’m taking my time exploring. I have that one sock on the go - it’s the one that I’m taking with me on a road trip to knit in the evenings. (I cant knit in a car.). And I’ll do the after-thought heel just because I tried a heel once. And then the next time around, I’ll try again the actual heel while knitting the sock itself. Thanks for your feedback and for watching!
@@AdventurerKnits Yes the Lily Sugar & Cream is not the softest but I've used it for things like coaster or cozies. The Lion Brand 24/7 is nice too. I had doubts about it when I saw people doing reviews using it for clothing, but I am making a handbag. I could see maybe a beach cover or hat. But I really like it and may do a bed coverlet in the future. The K & C yarn may be available online in more colors I am going to check that out for future use. I could see where that would make a very comfortable sweater or tshirt.
I'm so impressed how fast you're working on a shirt and on a vest! I did couple of scarfs and other super simple knits as my first knits. I absolutely love knitting socks but I do remember my first heels and how impossible they felt at the beginning. I can promise, they'll get easier with time, as will the other stuff like short rows and other knitting terms. If you don't understand something in a pattern, I'd suggest trying to google it because internet is full of instructions about everything to do with knitting. :) To me it's always helpful when I can see what something instead of just reading about it.
Here's a short video about the trying on tube or barber's cord. ua-cam.com/video/lw33DAlSczg/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for everything you’ve shared here! I really appreciate it. It’s encouraging to hear , even though the rational part of my brain knows this, that the language of knitting, the techniques get easier with repetition and practice.
How thoughtful of you to find a video about the barber cord! I really appreciate it!
