Marv has got to be the unluckiest person in the series. He had an encounter with an entity that mimics voices and survived, now he's being held hostage from a crazy abandoned Async employee and had to witness his friend Mark die in front of him. I hope the poor guy gets a break if he survives.
You can't say he was abandoned when he glitched forward in time, thus LITERALLY disappearing from his previous timeline. For all intents and purposes, to A-Sync he was "dead" at worst and missing for a very long time at best
"Radio is dead, we have to go back." "What? But we haven't gone too far yet." "All the more reason to turn back." Give that man a medal, smartest person we've seen in this company. Not that it mattered...
if i was in Childs play i would get a sharp blunt hard and soft object includes any amount in area and can hold. then i would yeat all the blunt objects first and had five big ass paint buckets on me two for melee and the other 3 for yeating and yes i brought legos with me and when chucky steps on the lego well you probably what will happen
You've got to be impressed by how freaking *dedicated* this Marvin is to his job! After what happened to him in Pitfalls, you'd think that he'd never want to set a foot in the backrooms again. Yet here he is, being our cameraman once more.
@@Mrtm_ There are military people in classified projects leaving all the time it's not that shady on every level of government. Some people are just really good at and dedicated to their job.
Marvin...almost dies...19 days later...meets an old friend in the backrooms and is held at gunpoint. At this point maybe give Marvin a desk job or something, the man is a danger magnet.
Here's something that I *very much* appreciate about the craftsmanship of this episode: in the pitfalls room at 6:13, the camera actually focuses on that one ledge that's anomalous to all of the others (overhang + shadow, not flat) that we could see in previous shots, and then at 7:02, we see that, because something is just.. different there, they are basically fencing it off instead of just putting a pathway over it like the other holes. Something is different about that ledge/walkway, and they aren't taking chances. Superb attention to detail there.
I always thought that was a modeling bug. I noticed it back when Pitfalls was released. But it’s possible that they were fencing off the hole Marvin fell through so they could try exploring it again.
@@Adreitz7 I think Marvin was further along than that hole when he fell? I'll have to go back and watch. Regardless, would be a really weird reason just on its own, but if both your statement and my statement are true, then it would be "Dude fell here, and there's this oddity where he fell; maybe it's related? Block it off just to be sure." That reasoning *also* makes a lot of sense.
I was going to mention this exact same thing. The fact that it is clearly noticeable when you're looking but easily missable when you're not means Marvin was really looking at those pitfalls, likely remembering the incident that happened to him there.
The fact that this series started out completely focused on the Backrooms and now has actual characters and character development is really adding that feeling of it being a legit story. But at the same time it maintains realism in its interactions and events. This is the best series on UA-cam!
@@Starskiller48 Agreed. I like Kane's series for what it is, but the overall appeal of the Backrooms is the intentional isolation and mystery, and there's certainly none of the former here.
Ok so just to recap: - The coordinates of the coffee mug, if placed in Google Maps, lead to a lab in the real world called the MLML which may be somehow connected to the "I remember..." video where the narrator mentions that he lived in "a mannor overlooking the sea" - The first man with glasses at the start was one the scientists reviewing the Pitfalls footage during the Report video. - The wooden door is the part that leads further into the backrooms and the pitfalls which was sealed off at the end of the Report video as a security meassure. - Mark (the one with the shotgun and gets shot) is also the one who went through the door in the Pitfalls video and called unto Marvin (cameraman again) who fell down. - "Marvin's Friend" is the nickname they give the entity Marvin encountered in Pitfalls - The part in the Pitfalls where the camera zooms into the odd tile is where Marvin fell through and it's left open, presumably to investigate more. - The dude that attacks him is Peter. He's the one that "got lost" in the Informational video (for hours which then turned out to be months) and sets off the alarms when he goes forward in time into the control room at the end of that video. He's also the same one we see at the end of Presentation video. Apparently, he was friends with Marvin (or at least knew him). - For what we know, for some reason, A-Sync faked his death after he disappeared and then when he came back they didn't take him back in and so it appears he had to leave it and hide in the backrooms. - If you put the captions in the hidden video in the description of Reunion, you will understand they're talking about his (Peter's) re-appearance that day (during the Presentation video) and the newspaper is flipped and mirrored to show that the way they covered his death was by a car crash near a vineyard which resulted in a fire.
More than that, horror and comedy are similar in structure of building up for tension in emotions, they (emotions) just different, comedy for fun and laugh and horror for a fear. This is why this thing works so good there!
@@shleiff.mp4 Exactly, when there's horror *and* humour, you never know what you gonna end up with, so it increases the horror's effectiveness (the same is true for the humour, I figure).
The escalation in quality of movements in the hazmat guys through this series is amazing. Not to say it was ever bad, its just so much more natural and smooth now. Kane is an artist.
@@bennogb5069 who do they think is dead? Marvin is still alive he's the one recording the tape. They think peter is dead but peter had nothing to do with the entity that Marvin saw
The thing that separates Kane Pixels from the rest of the backrooms channels is that they understand what makes the backrooms terrifying. It's the realistic movement to the human models that conditions you to view "organic" movement in a particular way, so that when you see something moving in an inorganic or otherworldly manner, it automatically feels intensely surreal. It's the fact that the entire video isn't just one linear journey, but many different segmented clips that give you a very limited amount of information so you still feel completely lost at the end of the video. It's the creativity of the camera angles, that it's not always just some dude in a suit holding a camera and walking around, sometimes it's a rover or sometimes we see what happens from a camera that's been dropped already. It's the idea that we don't get to see literally everything around the scientists/explorers; we again get a very limited amount of information about the environment they're in, what potential threats reside there or even what they look like in detail. We don't even get to see Peter, we don't know if he was disfigured or transformed in some way by the backrooms. The only reason you know most of what you know about each level of the backrooms in general or the entities that exist in those spaces is because of _other backrooms channels_ that go too far in explaining everything to death. This channel understands the concept of "less is more". I don't want to fully understand what I'm watching, and I want to be immersed. This channel knocks both of those things out of the park, it's why the entertainment value of this content is truly timeless.
Tbh those backrooms explainers are just doing what they be doing, explaining the backrooms (like broogli), which is welcome, but maybe I'm thinking of a different kind of backrooms since this one doesn't seem like the one I'm used to seeing
That was the scariest part in my opinion and most genius detail in this entire series so far, you can feel how utterly massive the backrooms are from that echo.
@@nuckm The regular rooms as you know it are actually very sound dampening (idk how people miss this), but the specific rooms where the gun was shot has blank concrete flooring and much bigger than usual pillar spacing which made it echo way way more than it would in the yellow rooms.
I love how Kane never explains too much. He always leaves enough unsaid. It’s a real skill to create and hold the mystery like that. This is excellent.
I don't know what's scarier. The way the backrooms seems to be a semi-sentient monster full of monsters or how ASync just keeps marching personnel into this hell pit despite everything. Their commitment to the plan is inhuman.
I don’t think so. ASync is clearly a research facility and these people know what they’re getting into. They’re in over their head and callous, but not evil
@@doge8825 So how did this guy get trapped in the backrooms when the last we saw him, he had gotten back out to the facility? EDIT: Planning to move people to live into residences in the backrooms when you know there are monsters and missing people in there is just....insane.
Considering the first video in the series takes place in 1996, and the fact the videos are from different points in time, we know the project has already failed, and hopefully ASync is punished in some capacity for their actions. Plus, leaving Peter to _die_ in the Backrooms puts their actions in a whole new light. They might not be as on the level as we think they are.
If you think about it, Mark continuing to use his radio was actually one of the best decisions he could've made in regards to Peter. Because Peter killed Mark, and there are witnesses, it will be very difficult for ASYNC to cover this up. It would require a lot of resources to silence Team A and the survivors and Peter. Peter can't be ignored.
I just love how human all these reactions are, it really feels like people, how cautious everyone is and even when they are in the worst of situations (at the end) it still feels very realistic
I know a ton of other people have said this, but the dialogue of the employees is just so captivating and realistic, the way they care for each other is so human.
I just want to say that as someone who was alive in the 90s & has watched a lot of things on VHS, thank you for doing it so well. Most "analog horror" creators put Way too many vhs effects on everything, even when it doesn't make sense at all. You use it very well, in low light areas & with tapes that might have been distorted from the backroom energy the effects are heavier, & just normal walking & set up it's a lot less. Watching vhs tapes now from 30-40 years ago, especially home recorded or not stored perfectly, the effects will be heavier because the tapes have degraded, but back then they were a lot smoother.
That's kinda how analogue horror works. The glitches DON'T make sense, thus the feeling that something is wrong. Also why they don't use Betamax format, because it's barely relatable as no one even used it when it was popular. Most people know what a video tape is and have some form of understanding of how shitty the recordings can be. And more people have the knowledge that if it's footage on VHS, it's probably something that happened a "long" time ago which adds to the mythos. The effects here may be too realistic, resulting in some VHS era drama series instead of horror. And "the gun"? There's no reason in hell there shouldn't be an armed team highly trained in firearms that are right in front of the exploration team every single expedition. The one plus I would give them in common sense ability is, go back to the room with holes in it, cover up the holes, and put railings around the ones you don't cover because you might want to check them out later without the aspect of accidentally falling into it. Granted there would be no story if no one fell down in the first place, but those are a good foot-wide or more walk ways between the squares. If you know your team is that prone to vertigo, yay. You solved A problem using brain power unlike random guy in bulky yellow suit who clearly has no sense of balance.
The heavy duty portable CRT monitor that they use to control the robot in this episode looks exactly like the ones we used to edit video when I was in college in late 90s / 2000s
After watching this, I'm so excited for the now-confirmed film. If Kane Pixels is really writing this, then they totally understand how to write drama. The moment the two diff parties encountered each other, the emotional build-up came to a climax: just two different groups of humans completely displaced and traumatized by the Backrooms and reduced into fearful animals that are an inch beyond killing each other: that's what it's all about. Not the endless maze, not the entities ... just the loss of humanity, the hours that feel like a lifetime lost inside of fear itself. Losing yourself, your humanity, inside of an unrelenting nightmare is the ultimate horror.
I loved your comment! If you're not a writer, please consider it. Your suggestion of elements that give us ultimate fear gives me chills, and if I'd read your comment and hadn't watched KP's videos yet, I'd be obsessed with finding and devouring them. Also, "now-confirmed film"? WHAT??? IS THIS TRUE???
“that’s what it’s all about” Honestly couldn’t disagree more. The whole point of the backrooms is to explore liminal spaces and the unease that they cause. It is quite literally all about the endless maze. It’s KanePixels’ series, he can do what he pleases, but the backrooms is not his concept. The groups of humans killing each other and the entities aren’t what make the concept of the backrooms so interesting and unique.
@@graystone2802 I mostly agree with you, I was just excited by the episode and going off on a tangent. I would say my point is a little bit contestable, so I’ll dig into just for fun: One of the main reasons the Backrooms are so eerie is because they are closely tied to our everyday reality, yet devoid of any purpose or identity of their own. Liminal spaces are basically the bridge between two locations, such as the hotel being a stopping point between your beginning and ending location, the hallway being the space between two offices, etc. I think while we’re not so consciously aware of it, we derive a lot of our humanity from a sense of motion between liminal spaces, departing and arriving at spaces which serve specific purposes and reflect different aspects of ourselves and the roles we play in society - that’s why you have a living room, an office, a concert hall, a personal bedroom, etc. You could say each space has its own soul, or identity. When liminal spaces - which literally have no identity besides being a space in-between spaces, and are usually sparse in their design - become the destination, we lose touch with the places, roles and experiences that make us who we are. Therefore, through prolonged isolation in liminal spaces, we lose our humanity and our sense of self.
@@Osodjrhrbthat’s an interesting way to look at it, I think I agree with almost all of it. The only thing I think doesn’t sit well with me is the transition space idea, I’ve heard it a few times. I don’t think liminal spaces are connections between locations, locations that don’t exist, locations that are nostalgic, or any of these types of definitions. I think the only real way to define them is just a location that doesn’t fit it’s intended context. hallways that don’t connect anything, stairs that go nowhere, old unused bedrooms, public places with no people, like your empty concert hall. Seeing any location in a different context than we expect makes it liminal. I think it’s common with transition spaces because it is simple to create one that simply doesn’t connect what it is supposed to, but restricting the definition to this doesnt capture what actually makes them liminal. The eeriness comes from the uncertainty that follows when our expectations are subverted. But although I don’t think liminal spaces are directly related to destinations or in-between spaces, I do agree that when places we are familiar with suddenly become unfamiliar, they lose their identity and we lose touch with roles and experiences that make us who we are
This is the only horror series essentially ever that nails realistic dialogue. I was waiting for an blatant overreaction, or a "guys... I think we should get outta here...", or even just some lines that felt forced for the sake of plot development. None of that. Brilliant work
also there are these small lines of dialogue not even needed to forward the story but it makes everything feel more like this actually happened, rather than some generic Hollywood stuff
Yeah dialogue like; "Guys, I found something, think you need to take a look at this." (drawing on the wall) And "No you were right, this looks handmade." (why would that make any difference in an alternate reality.) Or, "I wonder if those ceiling tiles were moved or it is a natural state." They are in another dimension, and getting overly analytical about small details. I would be trying to figure out why I am even in the place and why it is there. And not getting killed by the beings.
@@neaituppi7306 yo they entered a portal specifically to explore the place, of course they’re getting analytical. These ones didn’t just noclip in like the ones in the found footage, they’re just chatting while doing their jobs.
@@neaituppi7306 it's literally their job. They've been in there before, they're trying to map out/investigate the place so ... Obviously they'll investigate it. (although yeah the "you need to take a look at this" line is a cliche lol, I don't think there's anything wrong with it though).
@@finpin2622 I don't think there is anything wrong with them either, but the point of the OP is that the lines were not cliche. I don't care what they say, they are in another dimension, nothing they analyze there will matter. Scientifically it is more pressing of them to understand why they are even there at all, let alone whether the drawing on the wall was done handmade. Or the ceiling tiles fell on their own. One of them ended up getting shot, because they went in there like they were in a lab analyzing stem cells, even after being chased out by a huge creature before.
kane’s gotten so far since the release of the first backrooms video. the animation has improved, hell, he even got real actors. we should really be proud of him for how far he has come
I don't think they're paid actors. They're probably friends of Kane or Kane himself. If they are paid actors, that means he's getting some crazy revenue from this which is great
“There are no visible signs of Marvin’s friend :)” “that is absolutely not the name we’re going with” “Then you’d better start working on a new one :))” I love the casual anti-tension conversation. Mark is my favorite character so far (alongside Marvin), I’m glad he didn’t die (that we know of) since he was just left in critical condition. Better than death. I’m really enjoying these characters and it’s clear that these people aren’t just government drones, they are researchers who want to do good from what I can tell. Can’t wait for the movie!! With Kane directing it will be amazing even if it doesn’t follow this storyline and characters!!
Things I love about this episode 1. The horror, every second I was just expecting something scary to happen 2 the design of the weaponed scientist, it made me think of the combine soilder design from half life alyx 3. A passage being used to create a creepier atmosphere 4. The animation! I’m absolutely in love with how amazing your animation is so life like!
The piano at the end was way too good, it was so creepy yet sad. And the guy's question, "did they have a funeral"? My god he sounded so broken when he said that. Like it was a desperate seek for closure. Amazing.
I love how there’s cars in the backrooms now. Makes it feel a lot more immersive than just walking around, because they have full-blown transport now. Just imagine what the Backrooms could look like if it was tamed, mapped and opened to the public, with rail systems, roads and cities built on a different plane of existence from the real world.
Imagine what our own world would look like if we could transform it in a similar way, trains and buses and free housing aplenty. But no, here we must have our value slowly sucked out of us.
this would be cool. then maybe have a 'When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back' kind of moment and have increasingly anomalous events happening as they expand further, culminating into some sort of epic showdown
I love how Marvin tried to stop Mark while keeping Peter calm realizing Peter would shoot if Mark continued. Mark didn't stop but Peter didn't want to shoot him and tried to warn him but Peter had no choice so he said "I'm sorry" and shot. Marvin tried to keep the situation tame very well but sadly both Mark or Peter didn't listen.
because peter was likely thrown back into the back rooms by A-sync, so if they had found him again they wouldve likely killed him. Mark shouldn't have called for backup, he wasn't gonna shoot him otherwise.
Peter did nothing wrong. Mark is straight up saying (In front of Peter) "Uh yeah- Command, come shoot this man. He is a 'Hostile' and I need 'Armed support'. Clearly meaning come kill him." Peter was being incredibly reasonable given the circumstances. "What are you doing?" "Stop!" "I'm sorry."
"There are no visible signs of Marvin's friend." "That is absolutely NOT the name we're going with." That made me pause the video and took me a good minute to register what I just heard and then laugh about it for 5 more minutes. With all the horror and seriousness, this tiny sprinkle of humor makes the story more realistic (and heartbreaking at points... reminding you that they are still humans. I personally tend to forget that while watching horror in general.)
Everyone praises the humor or just how relatable the people’s behavior is, but no one praises how realistic the walls look. They’re so simple yet nuanced. It’s like I WANT the walls to have more like pictures and windows, it’s better that it has less. Like less is more, you know? And the way they shape the rooms and really emphasize the size of the area they are in is just so believable. This is what makes Kane Pixels so much better than all the other creators. He UNDERSTANDS walls and what makes them relatable but eerie.
“Yeah that’s.. probably true” I love how they’re just actually human, this is how humans act especially if they’re in a very unnerving situation like this
What I really enjoy here is that the scientists are not evil. The company’s goals with the backrooms are actually kind of noble, and notice they haven’t opened it up cause of the monsters. They’re actually using their heads. Not commonplace in horror series.
@@aesthetic8780 difference between the company and the characters, A-Sync are definitely scummy trying to make a profit, but the people are just exploring it and finding out what is and isnt safe. The people are algood, the company is not
I strongly disagree. Lots of people at A-Sync are knowingly engaged in a criminal conspiracy. Participation is not limited to a few greedy masterminds in the executive suite & boardroom. Management, medical, security & perhaps scientific staff are involved even to the point of kidnapping, torture & murder (see "Damage Control"). These videos are beginning to seem rather dystopian in that sense. The willingness of the blandly ordinary characters to participate in collective evil reminds me of the Milgram experiments and the excuses offered by "ordinary Germans" after WWII. We do what we're told...
Holy shit your production quality has improved tremendously in such little time. It’s always been way above and beyond as far as quality, but now this just feels like watching a legit mini series. I hope this idea eventually becomes serialized and you start making serious money off your work!! This deserves attention. You’re going great places in your career dude. I’m a year older than you and you inspire the living hell out of me. Please keep it up I’ve become a massive fan!
“Wouldn’t want to be on the other end of that” “You wouldn’t want to be on the end of any gun Marvin” “Yeah that’s probably true…” Small dialogue like this really adds to the realism! Also foreshadowing moment.
Loved the Shotgun SFX, most movies tone down the sound of gunshots to make a more entertaining final product but you really captured just how loud and brutal they are here and it really works in the series favour
@@wasperineVery good point! For sure, the way that shot rang out for almost the entire rest of the video is both an accurate portrayal of the acoustics and an incredible way to convey the heightened confusion of the immediate aftermath.
Amazing work as always. I also love the visual allegory of ASYNC literally trying to "patch over the holes" in Room 17D. Everything ASYNC does feels like the hubris of someone trying to keep sailing while the ship is slowly taking on water. The later contrast in the white rooms with the fallen ceiling tiles making "new holes" suggests that this environment is not as stable as ASYNC believes, and I wonder if their patches will really last.
I'm not sure if you are suggesting they are trying to cover up the fact that one of their guys fell down or not. They seems to leave the holes along the right side open still. They were mostly concerned with getting to the room regularly and safely. Meaning they intend to be visiting it a lot. But why? Anyway, is the gunman the same guy who fell down the holes in the first place?
@@dan7564 I'm pretty sure the guy who fell down the hole survived, and his name is Marvin. I think the gunman, Peter, is the guy that "glitched out" suddenly (Informational Video). I also think ASYNC is trying to go to the room on the other side of the holes because the guy who got in that room (Pitfalls) seem really amazed and wanted the others to see what was inside as well. He probably explained what he saw and it seemed worth it enough for ASYNC to make a safer route.
@@dan7564 Not trying to hide the fact that someone fell down, rather I saw it as them trying to fence off the dangerous area below and the monster and effectively forget about it, or at least try to act like this will make that problem and all its implications go away. The gunman was not the guy who fell down the hole, the cameraman was. He has seen both the monster and now Peter, and so its clear Marvin has seen more of whats really going on in the Backrooms than almost any other surviving person so far. Its also likely that ASYNC will react to this shooting in a similar way- by taking a low-cost measure to try to cover up the problem while pushing ahead with their ambitious plans to utilise the Backrooms with government money.
Kane's backrooms series is the most popular one for a reason. It's one of the few that still captures the feel of the original creepypasta. The tension mainly comes from a sense of uneasiness and anticipation, there's not an over-reliance on jumpscares, and Entity appearances are used very sparingly. The dialogue is realistic and the protagonists actually have working brains.
Yeah and Entities are actually meant to be rare, it's supposed to be an infinite yellow megastructure with very few entities but if you DO end up running into one.. you're dead.
The problem with most backrooms content is the wiki-ification of the story; rules created ad nauseum and an explanation created from every mystery, ruins the horror and devalues content created by others.
your not wrong, but you are also wrong, he's series are the original ones, the others are just fan animations, that's the main reason this videos are much more popular than the others
The first actual death of an ASYNC employee in the backrooms and it wasn't even due to a monster. It was literally caused by ASYNC trying to cover up their missing employee. I like how Kane is setting up this series, how us as humans are more dangerous to each other than whatever supernatural monster is out there.
@@arias3295 to go even further, "le monster" is a cliche concept that's been done to death, which is why kane's series is running circles around other backrooms content
@@arias3295 You must be young judging by how narrow your interpretation is, "humans are actually the monsters". Why are you looking for monsters? There are no monsters anywhere in this series, human or inhuman. This is a story of cosmic horror where the world progressively devolves into chaos and becomes impossible to make sense of. The entities are a side-effect, this was a side-effect, and we're gonna see more side-effects of this cursed creation. This will probably be the only human ambush we're gonna see, it was just one plot thread in this massive clusterfuck. Also everything in existence is 'cliche', there's absolutely nothing that hasn't been written or done before. Jujutsu Kaisen, Chainsaw Man, those are all twists on the classic superhero VS villains genre, it's the specific way that everything is weaved and presented that makes a story original. And sorry to break it to ya, but Kane has already firmly stated that the entities won't be primary focus, they're a device to add flavor and lead the story into new places.
Man that ending is somthing. You can tell that Peter (I believe this is the same guy from Informational video) has been through alot and how broken he is mentally. I also like how the shotgun firing echos for few seconds after and could be some sort of foreshadowing. Kane has such great attention to detail and knows how to set the tone of a scene, nothing feels forced.
But at the end of the informational video he found that control room and the alarms started blaring. And I recall people seeing that scene on a security camera as well in a different video. I just assumed they got him out. Are u implying he didn’t escape that way and just left that control room to continue wondering until now?
@@yuh2019 I’m currently looking at theories, since this video is recent it might change, but some people theorized that after they found him they already claimed he died to the public, so they just left him in the backrooms or something similar
@@ethanissupercool7168 yeah cuz he supposedly time travelled And after clearly hearing the dialogue I know understand why they say “Async found him. But then made him stay” How tf can u tell someone’s wife their husband missing for 3 months is alive I also think they staged his death. So Async really fucked up with that. Now he’s doing the fuck knows what down there
The way he said “I’m sorry” before he shot was sad, the way the back rooms changes the humans in it to terrified animals fighting for their lives, not knowing what to do.
Exactly its so natural i especially love 9:28 where Mark points his flashlight at the tile that Marvins looking at and Randall goes "Watch the gun" and Mark apologizes.
I like how the story focuses more on the human interactions with this realm instead of just sometimes there are beings in the backrooms that can't be understood.
It’s absolutely amazing we’re crossing into the silver screen territory because of how absolutely high quality this is. I’m so happy for Kane right now.
its interesting and honestly really refreshing to see a backrooms concept that relies more on capitalizing on the liminal, existential horror of it all rather than purely a bunch of monsters and "levels". like, in such an existential nightmare of a non-euclidian space, very human conflict like this would probably be more of a danger than any sort of funny looking monster!
I think it's fundamental to keep that liminal quality of the Backrooms. I love Kane's take on the Backrooms, considering he doesn't just abandon that quality but rather adds on to it.
i would really love to see this whole story compiled in a full scale movie. You horror storytelling is just unmatched. Every conversation and decision just feels so natural and rational, which is a rare sight in horror these days. If you ever decide to make something bigger, feel free to open a gofundme because i think a lot of people would be there to support you
@@rafaricks yeah thats what i was thinking maybe he only had the under suit left? but also him hiding in the dark, that suit really helps him blend in i barely saw him. so maybe he ditched the async yellow hazamat suit for the clothes underneath. he perfectly ambushed them. but the thing is he was probably hiding back there for months from something else too. can you imagine what the fuck he’s seen? i wanna know how he survived back there without food or water

I wonder how this is going to affect Marvin moving forward. Having dealt with the near-death experience in "Pitfalls" and now witnessing your partner who assisted you through that experience shot by none other than your former co-worker who was presumed dead, is quite the predicament and I am looking forward to see how he handles it and himself.
watch this, it’s one of Kane’s ‘hidden videos’ and it provides some more details on when he was found. It is assumed that he was sent back in order to cover up the falsification of his death
What I truly love about this one is it does a neat trick with the viewers expectation. During this video we expect a entity to show up, it’s what we have been groomed into thinking by the other videos in this series that are in this style of exploring the backrooms. However the twist of it being a person trapped in here(as well as the same dude from previous videos) is such a neat twist, it didn’t try to over hype us and give us nothing, but it didn’t do what we expected. As well something about that shotgun blast felt so powerful, we’ve seen deaths in this series but never something so gruesome, never something so personal. This rises the stakes in new ways as well. Such a well crafted series, from visuals to story telling it is master class.
Yeah I like how the monsters are rare to see and Are barely shown it focused on the mysteriousness of the place and the how mentally impacting it is for people who are or been in the backrooms for quite a while rather than just chases they're terrifying but if you just keep doing it over and not give it a break it gets old pretty quick I like what Kane's doing here in my opinion

7:31 *"You wouldn't wanna be at the other end of any gun, Marvin".* Damn, I knew that was going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. It was a matter of time before human conflict was part of this series (as all good horror stories should have). Now I want to know how that guy survived all those months.
In common backrooms lore, almond water is somehow plentiful throughout the various levels of the backrooms and is used as the excuse for various paramilitary groups to be able to survey down there. Although that is somewhat silly and I would not be surprise if it's just not touched upon.
I love how Kane's ideas of Backrooms 'levels' is just Level 0, but in some areas merges into different areas. It's like as if the machine that generated these rooms wanted some variety, but of course, went horribly wrong.
I’ll always love the way these are scripted, makes it feel like it actually exists, the scenery and the way they act and talk, especially having these creepy unknown corners and instead of a monster jumpscare it’s another human lost in the mazes, along side it’s a friend and a threat it’s just so smart and so good. Literally makes the best videos about the backrooms
The fact characters make pointless mistakes with no rhyme or reason and no special foreshadowing or anything is something I really appreciate and always wonder why it isn't included in more content people create. Having a character just forget a word without any reason, stutter a little, or make a dumb joke like "Marvin's friend" instantly makes the world that much more believable and at no cost of the story writing. It's just so good. In this particular video, the part I liked the most about the dialogue was when one of them forgot... uh... I actually forgot the word myself, LOL. Anyway, they forgot a word, and it did not impact the plot of the video whatsoever. And to top it off one of their friends gave them a response reminding them of the word, but did so with an "uh..." before it. You can hear the cogs turning in the people's heads in this video.
This is the best project/series on UA-cam right now, the story being crafted here is incredible and I'm so glad this isn't a series that has cheap-jumpscares literally just for the sake of it, it really makes each scare more impactful then usual because you truly don't expect it - this is incredible and I cannot wait for the future of this series!
Seeing the desperate worker tackle his coworker scared me more than the lifeforms did. Also found it interesting this area was dark unlike the well lit yellow rooms we know so well. And, most importantly, how the heck has Peter been staying alive by himself in the backrooms!? He either got lucky or he's figured something out.
He’s moved through time at least once so we don’t know how long it was for him. We saw this exact worker in another video get lost and ‘leap’ through time.
@@Spartain14 I thought he lept forward from the first or second mission to after the door & security room was built and then set off the alarm there & presumably got rescued. Not sure how he ended up here.
I think you're missing a very VERY important piece of the puzzle. What color was "Peter"? Go back and look again. Think about "his" movements. I think it's less "Peter" and more of a formation of a new entity
For anyone interested. In 0:35, the 36° 47.64' N 121° 47.27' W coordinates in the coffe cup, correspond to the entrance of the Moss Landing Marine Labs building in California (that's probably what MLML stands for in the cup also). There's a Google street view panorama inside the building entrance exactly where the coordinates mark.
This is just an oceanographic marine research center. In the panorama, which is real, you can see a scuba diver hanging from the roof (It somehow resembles the dead hazman of the video). Due to bad tiling of the panorama there's an interesting "asymetric" door. There are also 4 posters that say "Look", "Around", "You" and "To".
2 things. 1. we stan marv 2. i like how the man wasn't made out to be completely deranged. he had screws loose, yes, but even in some ways he had humanity. even before he pulled the trigger, he says "i'm sorry", it's nice little touches that make this all the better
I don't know if he's also doing it, but the Corridor crew, when they did their 90's parody commercial, made their final pass by processing it through a VCR. If Kane did the same thing then it would also make the videos look similar to that time era.
i like how real this is, it felt like genuine humans and not some over the top kind of B Movie, even when the guy was calling for back up, which was stupid of him, it was still something that would really happen also it seems like Mark is still alive, at least at the moment, you can hear Marvin saying "it's going to be ok, Mark, it's going to be ok" whether he dies off camera or not idk but at least he still has a chance
It wasn't stupid. The shotgun wasn't for protection against entities, it was to kill Marvin. They knew he escaped back into the Backrooms and needed to silence him, and now that they found him, they needed to move quick to kill him. The guy with the gun is the only one of the guys in on this though.
@@drosera88 i highly doubt this, pretty sure it's for the entities (unless there's something i don't know about) but that's not what i'm referring to, when Peter had the gun and Mark continued to call for backup multiple times in front of a maniac with a shotgun. Yes he should call for backup but all he would need to do is keep the button down so others can hear what's happening, instead he constantly responded practically begging Peter to shoot him.
The subtle but much more visceral horror of someone going insane in the backrooms is so much better than the idea of there being 10,000 different kinds of stupid monsters.
I feel that’s way too easy honestly. A monster is scary because of what it implies and what you don’t know - the unknown. A crazy guy is scary, but he’s also just human. Literally just shoot the guy back is the solution. Monsters can be shallow for sure, but It takes more creativity and intrigue with a good monster
@@uh-ooooh everyone’s talking about the entity or the person but the best part of Kane’s series is 100% the atmosphere. Everything else is secondary to that in my opinion

Man. The idea of Peter just camping out there for who knows how long until the A-Sync team happens to go through the dark hallways is creepy, makes you wonder whether the organism stays out of the dark rooms. It would be horrible having to survive away from the lit areas.
Oh absolutely, the problem is it take a while before someone would realize that because you can’t even see in there without a flashlight, so he’s been in there for a at least a few weeks I think,
the continuing echo of the shotgun was on point and gave a good reference to just how big the space is. Someone a lot better than I am in math could actually calculate via the reflected sounds.
Tom Scott's video on the "world's best echo chamber" should give you an idea. That room is absolutely huge and a starting pistol takes a while to die down. I can't calculate it but it would probably mean the vinyl space is anywhere from 800 ft (the oil tanks in Tom Scott's video are 778ft in length by 30ft in width and 44ft in height) to several miles wide.
I wish he continued the series but, now more than ever, I start to realise details pushing this further from realism, as in textures that look flat or how the e torches look just the same as in many old games

@@Adreitz7 i'm starting to learn that when it comes to Kane, nothing is there by accident.
@@Adreitz7 I think Marvin was further along than that hole when he fell? I'll have to go back and watch. Could be a nonphysical floor patch (a trap)

Ok so just to recap:
- The coordinates of the coffee mug, if placed in Google Maps, lead to a lab in the real world called the MLML which may be somehow connected to the "I remember..." video where the narrator mentions that he lived in "a mannor overlooking the sea"
- The first man with glasses at the start was one the scientists reviewing the Pitfalls footage during the Report video.
- "Marvin's Friend" is the nickname they give the entity Marvin encountered in Pitfalls
- The part in the Pitfalls where the camera zooms into the odd tile is where Marvin fell through and it's left open, presumably to investigate more.

I can second this. total authenticity. And yeah, they always over-do it in other imitations.
Yes
The thing about Kane is he uses an actual vcr on parts of his videos
“that’s what it’s all about”
Honestly couldn’t disagree more.
I would say my point is a little bit contestable, so I’ll dig into just for fun:
One of the main reasons the Backrooms are so eerie is because they are closely tied to our everyday reality, yet devoid of any purpose or identity of their own.
But although I don’t think liminal spaces are directly related to destinations or in-between spaces, I do agree that when places we are familiar with suddenly become unfamiliar, they lose their identity and we lose touch with roles and experiences that make us who we are
I'm lost in the backrooms.. I think..
Yeah dialogue like;
"Guys, I found something, think you need to take a look at this." (drawing on the wall)
And "No you were right, this looks handmade." (why would that make any difference in an alternate reality.)
Or, "I wonder if those ceiling tiles were moved or it is a natural state."
They are in another dimension, and getting overly analytical about small details.

Yes! But remember, the eerieness and the weird vibes will always *be there.*
Imagine what our own world would look like if we could transform it in a similar way, trains and buses and free housing aplenty. But no, here we must have our value slowly sucked out of us.
Maybe someone was driving to a Starbucks and no clipped with their car
Yes the reason there is cars is because they wanna construct a city like place in the backrooms
Don’t think that’s a good idea though
this would be cool. then maybe have a 'When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back' kind of moment and have increasingly anomalous events happening as they expand further, culminating into some sort of epic showdown
Clearly meaning come kill him."
Peter was being incredibly reasonable given the circumstances. "What are you doing?" "Stop!" "I'm sorry."
"There are no visible signs of Marvin's friend."
"That is absolutely NOT the name we're going with."
That made me pause the video and took me a good minute to register what I just heard and then laugh about it for 5 more minutes.

He has seen both the monster and now Peter, and so its clear Marvin has seen more of whats really going on in the Backrooms than almost any other surviving person so far.

Damn, I knew that was going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Self-fulfilling prophecy? Did you mean foreshadowing?
@@Offline219 yes he meant foreshadowing
Never once in my life have I ever read the synonym for foreshadowing
To this day, you can still hear the shot echoing and reverberating in the Back Rooms

How cool and atmospheric it is done. I love this understatement and mystery

I realized when he shot the gun it echoed forever. It really shows how terrifying how big and vast(♾) the backrooms is.
Omg you’re right, nice job on catching that sight to detail.
This part of the sound design was done so well.
The research lab is located a few tens of meterse from the beach. Just at the tip of the huge underwater Monterrey Canyon.
I was hoping someone would look that up thank you
This is likely just who they were working with to get the robotic exploration equipment.
I live literally two blocks from these coordinates lol. What an absolutely small world.

1. we stan marv
2. i like how the man wasn't made out to be completely deranged. he had screws loose, yes, but even in some ways he had humanity. even before he pulled the trigger, he says "i'm sorry", it's nice little touches that make this all the better
I love how someone not even alive in the 90s makes such accurate content that looks like it came from that period.
Because he knows what it's like, it's not rocket science.
I don't know if he's also doing it, but the Corridor crew, when they did their 90's parody commercial, made their final pass by processing it through a VCR. If Kane did the same thing then it would also make the videos look similar to that time era.
Goremall
Doesn't take living the 90s to watch old movies on VHS and know how it looks.
i like how real this is, it felt like genuine humans and not some over the top kind of B Movie, even when the guy was calling for back up, which was stupid of him, it was still something that would really happen
also it seems like Mark is still alive, at least at the moment, you can hear Marvin saying "it's going to be ok, Mark, it's going to be ok" whether he dies off camera or not idk but at least he still has a chance
It wasn't stupid. The shotgun wasn't for protection against entities, it was to kill Marvin. They knew he escaped back into the Backrooms and needed to silence him, and now that they found him, they needed to move quick to kill him. The guy with the gun is the only one of the guys in on this though.
What do you mean it would still really happen?
@@drosera88 i highly doubt this, pretty sure it's for the entities (unless there's something i don't know about) but that's not what i'm referring to, when Peter had the gun and Mark continued to call for backup multiple times in front of a maniac with a shotgun. Yes he should call for backup but all he would need to do is keep the button down so others can hear what's happening, instead he constantly responded practically begging Peter to shoot him.
@@biozin1706 i mean it's a situation i could see playing out in real life

I feel that’s way too easy honestly. A monster is scary because of what it implies and what you don’t know - the unknown. A crazy guy is scary, but he’s also just human. Literally just shoot the guy back is the solution. Monsters can be shallow for sure, but It takes more creativity and intrigue with a good monster
@@uh-ooooh everyone’s talking about the entity or the person but the best part of Kane’s series is 100% the atmosphere. Everything else is secondary to that in my opinion

Backrooms will be literally earth 2 in kane pixels series
Best way to traverse the Back Rooms is with a golf cart. Can cover more ground, one drawback though ,is that it can attract attention from monsters if it’s too noisy
Makes them cough, yeah, but Peter shot the guy because the Company abandoned him, not because of the influence of the backrooms
Idk he was probably influenced

Legitimately Kane’s animations can be turned into horror film and it will look like it was made in Hollywood, impressive work!
Don't compare Hollywood to a Masterpiece
His work is great. Just don’t pay attention to any character model that isn’t wearing a hazmat suit. The normal humans look like a cg ps2 cutscene 😆.
I know he’s doing this all himself and he’s only 17 but it’s very jarring going from a live action shot with a real person to a plasticy blender model in backrooms lighting.
Edit: I will admit I am being pedantic it’s just hard not to notice.
Comparing this to Hollywood is a disgrace and dimishing to Kane Pixel's, it's has been more than 2 decades that we had good horror movies made, much less in Hollywood. Kane Pixels work is something out of dedication and hardwork not politics and money menaging, there is a universe of difference between the two.

Man. The idea of Peter just camping out there for who knows how long until the A-Sync team happens to go through the dark hallways is creepy, makes you wonder whether the organism stays out of the dark rooms. It would be horrible having to survive away from the lit areas.

the continuing echo of the shotgun was on point and gave a good reference to just how big the space is. Someone a lot better than I am in math could actually calculate via the reflected sounds.
I think it was more creepy that that model of shotgun didn't exist in 1990
Tom Scott's video on the "world's best echo chamber" should give you an idea.

Kane is gonna go on to create big movies one day, the videos speak for themselves.
To be more precise, Kane's visual effects using POV and CCTV type footage never gets old or feels overdone. It creates tension along with GREAT sound design every time. Not only that, but the acting from the scientists ACTUALLY feels like I'm listening to actual people bitch, just how they would in real life.
