Great video. ☺️ These trains have the same IGBT traction inverters as the Class 800's, the Class 801's and the Class 802's but different motors.

I like how Hitachi makes audible modern trains and not dead silent ones like bombadier (aventura fleet) and desiro (current modern uk desiro fleets )

      Bombardier? Dead silent?

@@derplovestravel1777 yeah bombardier are very quiet . The aventras anyway z they have sound but it's irritatingly quiet. At least to me. You can't hear it for a good portion of the ride. Only at the beginning and then like for a couple seconds at 60mph then its just stupidly mute.
Electrostars are very audible, I like their motors.

@@bb-3653 Interestingly enough, the German counterpart to the Desiro City (Desiro ML/Mireo) is the opposite of quiet...

It’s weird how a certain part of the sound gets lower in pitch as it speeds up before it starts climbing in pitch and the slowing down it does the opposite

      Pretty common for Hitachi inverters.

Electrostars do this low key at the moment they take accelerate, you have to listen carefully though

This is how all AC electrics sound these days due to frequency-switching patterns. I'm not too familiar with the specifics, but as far as I know, they use a newer scheme at the low-end which causes the initial whine and rising pitch, and then revert to VVVF between 20-40ish mph (varies by type of train, Desiros do it at 20mph, Electrostars at 31-33mph) which causes the sudden switch in pitch. VVVF is the same system that the 365s, 465s, 1996 Stock, etc use and why they make their distinct sounds. The Desiro and Desiro City are the only trains I am aware of that jump up in pitch rather than down at the change to VVVF.

Hitachi could manufacture more AT200 "Commuter" trains and the AT100 "Metro" trains for say like GTR Southern (to replace the Class 455 used on the South London suburban services (including Caterham, Tattenham Corner, Epsom Downs, Sutton, London Bridge-Victoria via Peckham Rye, East Grinstead and Reigate). And the Class 313 used on the East Coastway Line & Seaford branch line and on the West Coastway Line & Bognor Regis branch line services.

likely southern will use more 377 electrostars as they have got a new batch of them which are simular if not identical to the 387's used on c2c, gatwick express and gwr
