  • Nattramn and Silencer, two names you've most likely heard of before. But how much do you know of the story of both? In this video essay, I attempt to explain a bit of the background of one of the darkest stories within heavy metal in general; a depiction of a man afflicted by extreme madness, mental illness and so much we couldn't hope to know, and how the recording of one of the most influential DSBM albums of all time turned into one of the most horrific stories ever told.
    Do you believe these things are true? What is fact or fiction? Is there validation to these claims? Let me know your thoughts of Silencer, Nattramn and this general story in general down below. Can't wait to hear what you all think about this! Have a great one!

      I just listened to the album and loved it. It's pretty sad and scary. However I feel like your video was kinda overblown and silly, lol (it was a good video tho). I seriously doubt Nattramn cut off his own hands.

    • @SpaceSloth707
      @SpaceSloth707 Рік тому +4

      Well, tbh, most of the stories surrounding Nattramn is just made up. I don't what and how much though. The most obvious one is that he cut off his hands and replaced them with those of a pig. That one is most certainly a made up story/rumor. I don't believe he got institutionalized, but it's more plausible. There's also another story where he almost killed a young girl with an axe, but that's definitely another rumor or fake story. If it was real, there surely would've been much more info and coverage about this event. It is most likely that he had or has some kind of mental illness though. Self harm is also possible. Though if it was to the extent that's been claimed, I doubt it. There's a DSBM band I really like called Shining. The vocalist & frontman of the band occasionally self harms. On photos you can often see his scars. I think Silencer & Shining introduced me to DSBM. It's not for everyone, but I absolutely love it!
      Perhaps bit lengthy response, but hey.

    Nattramn didn't commit suicide, never axed a 5 year old girl and never replaced his hands with pig feet. Everything about Nattramn on the imternet is just rumors. In his book called "Grishjarta" that consists pictures of Nattramn where he has normal hands.

      You'd have to be so gullible to believe he actually did that to himself. First of all, even a surgeon couldn't do it with fresh pig's feet that were JUST cut off a live pig that isn't sick or anything, as the human body would likely reject it as it even rejects human parts unless maybe taking meds that prevent the body from rejecting it. But no way he could just do that to himself or have an amateur do it and the pig's feet wouldn't likely be fresh enough to heal properly and not be rejected by the body. I've never even heard of pig organs being used you'd think if that were possible it'd be done all the time and there wouldn't be such demand for human donors.
      Of course someone with bad enough mental health could ATTEMPT to do it with complications, that's a different story. But that myth implies they actually healed on properly. TBH I haven't watched this full video yet lol and have only heard this rumor before.

    This side of black metal is rubbish that I really couldn't care less for. As for Nattramn, I have heard this story in the past. As soon as you mentioned the pig's hands, I immediately remembered it. Mental illness is definitely a factor in all of this. There seems to be something very wrong in the minds of many of these Scandinavian musicians. I do notice some patterns with them, but that's a discussion for another time. In some cases, it has to do with art and expression, but I also think that there is a little more to it. Part of me wonders if this kind of stuff--"art", as they call it--can be traced back to Vincent van Gogh, the painter who cut off his own ear.

      I’m super late to replying to your comment, but have to say I 100% agree. I used to be pretty into black metal when I was like 15. I was going through a really hard time and found that black metal in particular, with the agonising vocals and all, helped me a bit to get through it & sort of resonated with me. However, the history regarding all of these weird Scandinavian metal musicians is super dark & twisted, and there definitely seems to be something messed up about them. They all seem to have really traumatised minds/psyches or often just straight up become psychopaths & criminals. It’s weird for sure, and some of the more outrageous and outlandish behaviour of certain edgy metal musicians really puts me off from still enjoying the genre & the various subcultures from it.

    Nothing about this is complex at all. The amount of comments I'm seeing about it and your video show how poorly researched and how little any of you know. His brother was the one who committed the attack on the girl and he killed himself in the psychiatric hospital not long after. The fact any of you have to state that he didn't actually cut his hands off and sew pigs hands on is just laughable - of course he didnt do it. Nattramn was the main suspect of a double murder of an 8 year old and a 54 year old in 2004, however only recently were they able to use DNA to prove who did it. A 34 year old man has been sent to a psychiatric hospital for the crimes and according to his website this is not Nattramn. Research better next time its embarrassing you call this a "video essay".

    It's good music lol the rest all an act . Someone like him would have old scars that are clearly visible . His skin look soft and smooth with not a scar in sight like he just plays dnd for life . I bought the death peirce me cd book thing with all the pics they took and they are clear. No scars at all . It's just music

    If you actually listen to the music, it becomes pretty clear that this is all a "schtick". The vocals obviously staged, and the backstory is just that, a story.

    The pained vocal sounds a lot like the on and off vokills of Bethlehem from Germany forget his name now
    But the last Bethlehem i heard was
    A lady on vocals ,oneliner from nocturnal mortem .Good stuff

    you can see in the pictures he didn’t actually cut off his hands, his hands are visible under the bandages and GOD WE ALL KNOW YOU’D DIE IF YOU CUT OFF YOUR HAND BY YOUR SELF AT HOME DUH. Also people would know if someone tried to kill a kid with an axe, i’d make headlines. They’re just trying gain clout
