  • Fossil hunting Florida! Found super rare fossil bobcat jaw while diving a Florida River. Predator fossils are extremely rare and cat fossils are especially rare and coveted. That is why I am beyond thrilled to have discovered a fossilized Bobcat mandible while free diving with my friend Jonathan of Digging Science. He guided me to an extremely remote river that we had to hike many miles to gain access to. We then braved cold murky water and wild life such as alligators, snakes, and bugs to search for fossils. Our efforts paid off and we left with megalodon sharks teeth, mammoth bones, turtle fossils, horse fossils, mastodon tooth fragment, and of course the bobcat jaw! It is always cool to find a fossil from an animal that is not extinct. To think the Bobcat survived now extinct relatives like the Saber-toothed tiger (Smilodon) and walked the earth during the reign of megafauna like the giant sloth, mammoth, and mastodon.

    About Dig Dive Discover:
Hi! My name is Rick. I dig and scuba dive for fossils, artifacts, and all kinds of treasure! I enjoy searching for anything rare, shiny, old or interesting and sharing my adventures on UA-cam. I primarily hunt land by digging and excavating artifacts such as arrowheads, spear points and other Native American artifacts. When I am not hunting for relics I am usually scuba diving or free-diving dark water rivers throughout Florida and the US east coast. Most places I dive have extremely limited visibility (usually less than 2-3 inches and sometimes no visibility at all). I also contend with wildlife hazards such as alligators, snakes, and insects. I am a highly trained diver and scuba instructor and use my training to reduce these risks; however, diving solo in such conditions is dangerous I do not recommend you attempt this without similar proper training and experience.
