  • Which is more accurate? the Air Arms xti50 or the Anschutz 9015?
    i built some cool long range targets to push my limits and improve my accuracy at the longer ranges.
    im shooting out at 100 yards with the field target rifles,both running jsb heavies at sub12 power levels
    learning the wind is the hardest part and its a bit of a lottery at times but i got lucky a few times...
    the Anschutz 9015 sits in a walther lg300 alutec chassis and runs tier one mounts and a falcon ffp endura scope
    the air arms XTI50 is running an Arken optics EP5 5-25x56 in an Arken 20moa 1piece mount. both formidable rigs but one is significantly better at the extended ranges...

      Thanks mate. There's absolutely nothing better than pushing myself and making a few decent shots. The hft targets are a pain at the long ranges without a reset string but I just love watching them get flat packed. sad...but it's so satisfying 🤣
      I love doing the vids and trying new stuff out. I still get just as excited as the day I started,probably moreso now 😀

    Your channel is by far one of the best I’ve ever seen real world conditions etc I love the fox target idea the colouring is spot on very black tips on the ears so much detail lol… I would gladly by one of those targets… amazing work I wish I had a 100 yd range but hey ho.

    That xti certainly has some top performance. Wind flags down range is definitely a good idea. Pretty envious that you have this kind of range to shoot over at your leisure.

      Hi mate. I'm going to mark out the various ranges from 45-120 and have a few flags that I can place out, I need to build a nicer looking backstop and elevate the targets a little more too. It's fantastic having the space,shame the weather doesn't allow me to push out further more often though 😉

      Morning mate. That wind is an absolute swine at times 🤣 it sure keeps me on my toes...
      The resetting targets aren't overly reliable at the longer ranges unfortunately and the child in me really loves seeing the targets get flat packed
      I'll be trying out a load of different options to find a good compromise for fun and how it looks /sounds on film. Ill shortly be building a much tidier backstop and have plenty of fixing points for various targets. Hopefully I can get a huge wall of targets in time 😉

      Terrible really mate. They obscure the aimpoint(especially when aiming off a fair way) and they are really hard to see the impacts. The simple matte yellow painted metal targets are in my eyes ,so much easier to see what's going on 😉

    Wind and pellet selection aside, have you been able to get the xti50 shooting as accurately as the 9015 yet?

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 місяці тому +1

      Yes mate the 9015 and xti are pretty much neck and neck under controlled conditions out to 45yds. But in the real world with wind/rain/temperature and humidity changes the xti smashes the 9015.
      The 9015 doesn't like the extremes of temperature and when really pushing my limits the xti still has a lot to go. It's kinda surprising really as the 9015 fits me a lot better (not surprising considering it's evolved with me for the last 8 years). When I can get the Ali chassis on the xti I'll be able to really find it and my limits.
      Later this year I'll have the space to do some much more controlled testing on film, it's going to be mega... 😉

  • @rob86trott
    @rob86trott 2 місяці тому

    I take it your rifles are sub 12 . I got my first pcp (sub13) a couple weeks ago and at 100 meters I could hit that crow target 3 out of 5 shots i'd say but to hit that center target is a different story . But is that small amount of extra accuracy worth the massive cost different . My rifle and scope is around £700 but I bet your setup is 4 or 5 times more

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 місяці тому

      Morning mate, there's absolutely no reason why the sensibly priced gear can't drop them longer range targets 😉
      The key thing is having your gear fit you properly and being super pedantic with the pellet testing. You got to remember we are all still using the same pellets regardless of the rifles cost.
      Ill be doing a series soon based on taking an affordable (in the grand scheme of things) rifle and finding it's limits.
      If you have an interest in pushing the ranges out, I'd say the single most important part would be getting some adjustable or fixed 20moa scope mounts. I genuinely don't know why I never did it sooner 🤔

    So at the minute I have a HFT500 im looking at upgrading it to either XTi50 or a steyr LG 110. What are we saying. In my head I'd love a HW100 laminate but it not really suitable for FT.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  Місяць тому +1

      At this point id stick with the hft500 until we've seen the alutec xti50... It might be a better option than the rest for an all out hft rig. Having said that,there's nothing really holding the hft500 back. They've cleared plenty of courses 😉

    Just wondering how you knew it was 83 clicks. Had you taken shots before and measured the drop, or was it ballistic calculator. Or was it wizardry!

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 місяці тому +1

      I was out at 100yds last year mate. I couldn't dial fully onto the crosshairs with the setup then so was using a 66yd zero and then 5mill of additional holdover for a total of approx 8.5mills from my 25yd zero. So Initially a bit of ballistic calculation but now I'm quite familiar with the drops at that sort of range 😉
      It's safer to use a calculator to start with just so there's no nasty surprises (shooting past backstop type thing) but once you've got some drops established it gets far more familiar in time
      Even better really would be to mark up the top turret with the ranges on,so just turn to the range I'm at and job done😀

    Isn't a 10 metre indoor rifle limited to 7ft/lbs? Which would make long range shooting enormously difficult.
    Certainly the 10 metre/6 yard rifle I'm looking at is about 5ft/lbs.

    • @tillysgunstocks
      @tillysgunstocks  2 місяці тому +1

      The 9015 is now a sub12 setup however all the actions come specced with a slightly slower twist rate barrel than the majority of walther barrels. That slower twist seems to suit the lower speeds and 10m discipline but not so good at the extreme ranges.

    • @Judge_Dredd
      @Judge_Dredd 2 місяці тому

      @@tillysgunstocks Gotcha, makes sense, just like FAC Air can produce flight instability with Diabolo Pellets beyond 950fps, and the move is to slugs to rely on spin rather than skirts.

      @@tillysgunstocks BTW, 15 yard indoor .22lr is still using sub-sonic loads, and most .22lr ONLY outdoor target ranges to 100 yards are restricted to sub-sonic to avoid Supersonic Crack for the NIMBY neighbours, (and accuracy is also improved by avoiding transonic flight instability).
      Although I use 1132fps Supersonic SK Semi-Auto in my H&K/Umarex MP5 .22lr for Mini Rifle Competition, and have adjusted the recoil spring on the sliding bolt to reliably cycle the rounds and leave the barrel sub-sonic at the muzzle to comply with these ranges by checking with a Chronograph on a Centrefire Range beforehand. Lots of fun but expensive to run.
