Actually hes been shown to be just like how ours is now with the latest episodes.

Me too man me too
Its a dream, no country can reach that level of mobility.
@James Carmody I mean war happens, could you name a country that hasn’t gone to war?
“He seems lazy” why does this sound like my grandparents
Because they belive in physical labor not mental, that is why they don't approve of phones and claim they are lazy even though phones are complex the the human mind to fully comprehend.
Old ppl are the most faithful ppl in this narrative
Thats my dad in a nutshell

@@jacobwhite9961 PREEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAACH! They also believe that ( except for the majority of grandmothers and greatgrandmothers) that mental and physiological health doesnt matter and only physical health matters. But thats probably because they come from an era people were supposed to use their bron and not their brain. And that women were always supposed to be housewives and damsels in distress, and that guys were never supposed cry and to be strong and hold up the family " honor and name" by having a boy for a kid. Forgive the harshness in the last sentances.
The not being able to buy in bulk thing is so true, it's so hard to explain this to other people who just assume you're really dumb
Sucks. You should've just took their money.
It also requires that you have somewhere to *put* it. If you live in 500 square feet with five other people. you sure as hell don't have anywhere to put bulk purchases.
@@SkySong6161 Very true, we used to actuallly only have a mini fridge so for us it was really hard to not have to buy everything last minute because nothing would fit
Not being able to buy in bulk is the least of the problems. The poor can pretty much always buy in bulk, but it sometimes requires getting together to do so.
The real issues tend to be things like lack of banking, so they have to pay more to get their paychecks. Lack of grocery stores, so they wind up having to buy through more expensive convenience stores and an inability to get loans if they need them, so they're stuck going to payday lenders if they do need extra cash.
Poor people should get together, or maybe people should give their couches out to the poor.
This is literally the perfect portrayal for Uncle Sam. So confident, naive, innocent and prideful. It’s adorable.

4:01-Rule nr.1 when you are with Adam:
Don't talk big about anything.
Having grown up in and around extreme poverty, I can safely tell y’all that the “American Dream” is nothing. My mom and dad were able to make it out of poverty because they both have an IQ of 165 and 172, respectively. Not just anyone has that and you can’t work your way out. Unless you get lucky like they did you will never get out.
It’s not about luck it’s about hard work and being smart. Absolutely anyone can break out. I’ve watched people as old as 50 and as young as 15 work their ass off and save money to get out of situations they were in. You have a smart phone or computer so clearly either A your not hurting or B you are spending money poorly
Ironically the only way to make it rich and be well off is to start your own business. And the socialist policies make it impossible.
Wow such great statistics! My friend down the street won the lottery, you dicks are fools for not playing! We could all be millionaires!
@@galacticnovastudios wait no hold on
Correct me if I’m wrong, but are you saying that because someone has a smart phone or computer they’re either not poor or not spending money properly?
Are you suggesting that a phone or laptop-things people use every day in their lives to work, contact family, and are possibly the most revolutionary devices made in the past hundred years (though that one might be a stretch)- are a bad financial investment?
Please correct me if I’m wrong, but I would say those are very useful tools. Plus, it’s not like the choices are either you get a phone or a house, that’s ridiculous.
I’m kinda curious. What exactly is your argument here?
@@nineparr3110 if you get a new smart phone or laptop every year yes, bad with money
But no what I’m arguing is - if you have a device youre probably not starving or homeless, considering a couple thousand usd (the cost of a laptop and phone) makes you richer than most of the world. And if you are starving or homeless and have those devices you are being stupid with your money.

BECAUSE DEBT KEEPS YOU POOR!!!!!!
Well you lose money when taking a loan (in the long run).
I was thinking that too.
My mom takes out loans to pay other loans and this happened because she believed lawsuits, social security and child support was an absolute and normally when I see people living this dream it is not all of what its cracked up to be like I see some with a house, woman and child claiming they are living that dream only to see later that they were living a dream alright because I find them later in a police line up or thrown out by their loved ones.
I saw his episode on renting vs owning a home and my stepmom has has her house up for sale for several years with plans to spend the cash to vanish with my pa once sold and mind you all her homes and cash was inherited and I guess people think her price is too steep because people here think a termite infested home is worth $12400 a week just for the bedroom part. Kinda reminds me of a dexters lab episode where he has his happy dreams then he entered nightmare territory.
@@senorpants5604 I see how each loan or credit card or rent to own company has some sort of extra charge or interest rates like if my mom borrows $400 from cash net that montel williams endorses that becomes $450 and with one she got in the mail for $800 she would owe $850 that is if paid off on time but then just add the late fee each month for that one that makes it where that loan stays unpaid. I'll just say due to these expenses a calculator isn't going to help her cause.
Then she wants credit cards and publishers clearing house and thinks tons of vitamin supplements and dextox helps her when I see she looks like she has a cold and is sleeping all day till she wants to wake up. If you actually checked the links to the sources Adam gave you would see a completely different story.
America is 8th in the world for upward mobility not 16th. That 16th listing is on a son’s wealth compared to their father’s. A finding that the study itself says doesn’t really mean anything.
Anyone who has been poor and credit less who actually looked for a credit card would know that several are available. Their interest rates just suck since they’re for a first time card holder.
His $400 dollar emergency claim is bs too.
That study actually said that 61% of Americans have $400 or more cash on hand for emergencies. Not that 39% couldn’t handle or survive a $400 emergency. Just that they don’t have $400 cash set aside for emergencies.
Just check the links that Adam left if you don’t believe me.

A major problem with these comments is assuming poor people are lazy and don't want to put in the work. However, there a tons of factors I encourage people to think about. Just because you did it doesn't mean we all can. I'm in college right now and I worked my way up from community college, but I have opportunities and privileges others don't.
Also the amount of people below the poverty line means that most ot those people have jobs statistically and aren't sitting around twiddling their thumbs
Also if someone is "lazy" that does not mean that they are a bad person. "Laziness" is just what happens when someone is burnt out from life tasks they need to do. This might be from overwork, depression, anxiety, or any other number of stressors. This doesn't mean someone is a bad person, just that they need some support to resolve the problem.

"The reason that the rich were so rich, Vimes reasoned, was because they managed to spend less money.
"Take boots, for example. He earned thirty-eight dollars a month plus allowances. A really good pair of leather boots cost fifty dollars. But an affordable pair of boots, which were sort of OK for a season or two and then leaked like hell when the cardboard gave out, cost about ten dollars. Those were the kind of boots Vimes always bought, and wore until the soles were so thin that he could tell where he was in Ankh-Morpork on a foggy night by the feel of the cobbles.
But the thing was that good boots lasted for years and years. A man who could afford fifty dollars had a pair of boots that'd still be keeping his feet dry in ten years' time, while the poor man who could only afford cheap boots would have spent a hundred dollars on boots in the same time and would still have wet feet."
-- Terry Pratchett, Men At Arms.
Which is why it's always worth it to go broke for something that'll save you money in the long run
Here’s the thing: the “expensive- ‘high quality’” items aren’t always built to last forever. Sometimes, the person that bought it just gets lucky.
For example, I know someone who made a fortune by running their own company. At their house, however, they had to replace their expensive refrigerator THREE times in the last 5 years. Meanwhile my family and I had a fridge that lasted 20 years. We had to get rid of it because we were moving though…

All the people saying it’s easy just get a job at McDonald’s or something really have no idea what being poor is like. When you’re *already* poor it makes EVERYTHING harder to do. If you don’t have housing good luck getting access to anything that requires an address (jobs, social security etc.) McDonald’s also has actual requirements for working depending on the franchise owners discretion and you kind of need some form of transit if you can’t afford to live you probably can’t afford a bus pass or a bike. It’s not that getting out of poverty is impossible when you’re at least stable, it’s that getting out of it when you’re already in it stacks all the chips against you and in theoreticals you can’t just give concessions and assume everyone has access to even the most basic of financial mobility tools. It’s simply a broken system perpetuated by the myth of pulling yourself up by your bootstraps(an inherently impossible task) and kept going by the baby boomer generations mentality that if you’re poor then you’re just lazy. It’s sick.
Very true. And we have media shove down our throats the myth, with stories like "look how this elementary school kid started a business that makes over a million dollars a year!" (while conveniently leaving out that their parents were wealthy enough to give their kid tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars in startup money, and had connections to people in legal or business ventures that were able to provide support like getting legal paperwork completed, shipping logistics, and marketing-so the kid basically had an idea like millions of other americans but most people don't have access to the funds and resources required to start the business). They have pushed the "rags to riches" stories constantly, despite (or perhaps because) they are so insanely rare. And ironically, studies found it's actually also hard for rich people (those born into wealthy families) to become poor. Kind of an insult, if you are born into a poor family, you can struggle your entire life and still die poor; but if you are born into wealth you can screw up constantly and still generally be financially well-off. This country is more about connections than hard work, if you want a good paying job your best bet is just to 'network' (though a lot of that comes from parents as well, their connections help set up the ability for their children to make connections. It's not as simple as walking into a business expo and suddenly befriending powerful people-they often won't give you the time of day unless you have some connection to begin with)

Inequality doesn’t mean poverty. Anyone who’s not an idiot can tell you that the poor have been getting richer, just as the rich have, just not at the same rate. California and New York, both tax heavy states, are within the top 5 states with the worst income inequality. Taxes and social welfare programs don’t solve poverty they contribute to it. The United States is also an equal opportunity country, not equality of outcome, so it’s important to remember that not everyone deserves to climb the income ladder and those who can work hard and more importantly work smart can do so here. Super inaccurate video, tons of lies, not unusual for Adam Ruins everything. Usually don’t comment on these, but people who say poverty is too bad in the US and there’s no opportunities here are so blatantly wrong I have to say something. All Adam ruins are facts and logic.
The problem is that US just considers capitalism all good and socialism all bad,but this isn't so black and white.
Both systems have different good and bad parts. The best way would be to take some good parts from both sides to avoid such extreme inequality while also keeping our freedom.
Also socialism does not equal communism.
For example, under communism, the means of production is controlled by the state. No one owns property nor their businesses. Under socialism, however, private property exists, and large industries are controlled by the community. Furthermore, socialism is different to democratic socialism, where key services, such as housing, utilities, transit, and healthcare, are managed and funded by the government, whilst consumer goods are managed under a free-market economy.
Capitalism is massively flawed in many ways and can lead to systems just as tyrannical as communism. To get the best of both worlds, democratic socialism is definitely the way to go.
I guess it should be renamed to “Living the danish dream.”
cole farrell I meant that Denmark was number one on when it came to being poor to rich.
cole farrell It’s okay, no harm was done. I just meant that worldwide it should be known as the Danish dream.
Mr. L they dont let immigrants in really and there’s not alot of opportunities
But Denmark has an extraordinarily high cost of living, a guilty-until-proven-innocent justice system, and reams of bureaucratic paperwork to fill out just to start a business. They may not be socialist, but they are certainly close.
aycc-nbh72 You don’t even know what socialism means, socialism is where private companies aren’t allowed like in communism, but unlike in communism consumption isn’t socialised in a socialist country.
And how can it be an extraordinarily high cost of living if there’s less homeless people in countries like Denmark than there is in the US?
Also, if you ask me a guilty-until-proven-innocent system is better than a innocent-until-proven-guilty system.
And as always there’s non-illegal loopholes that make it way easier to start a business.
Once upon a time in a kingdom across the sea lived a rich king, along with his royal family. The king was surrounded by many nobles and others who coveted such titles. However, not all were successful in their social-climbing endeavor. Thus, some opportunists sought to make a name for themselves on foreign lands. To build themselves their own little empires they needed slave labor. Unfortunately, they could not use their own countrymen as such, cause of the King's protection. So they came up with a recruitment gimmick. Peddling the dream of a better life in a land across the sea. They stuffed many a workman along with cattle and cargo and carried them to this new piece of land they had stolen from the natives. The rest is history.
I loved how you explained that!

Just a note: secured credit cards are available for people who have no or poor credit. You pay a deposit, and you get a credit line for the deposit amount (usually $300). That being said, secured loans and credit cards increase your score very slowly, so it takes a long time to qualify for a better card or loan. lol as if this guy is even remotely honest about anything

@noless How is that not what the source said? Figure 1 shows the stats he's talking about. Which part are you criticizing?
Exactly. The study actually found that the correlation between father and son earnings in the US is about 0.4 which is barely above average. This suggests that the US has MORE social mobility that the UK and Italy, two places with higher tax rates then the US. The study also mentioned that you can’t make any policy prescriptions based on the comparison of the 24 countries because only FOUR of the countries were comparable with the US. One of those countries has LESS wage mobility than the US. According to Adam Conover, the US should raise taxes and create a welfare state based on only FOUR data points! Other research by UCLA economics professor Lee Ohanian found that while some of the European countries that raised their top marginal tax rates and corporate tax rates had lower income inequality than the US (only one European country is comparable to the US according to the study Adam Conover cited) the middle class and poor were not better off. The rich simply left the country. This lead to a massive drop in productivity and business formation. Average hours worked per person dropped 40% while the US economy steadily grew. There is a reason why almost all of these countries have taken steps to lower top marginal and corporate tax rates, raising taxes on the rich and redistributing income does not work. Adam Conover deceives his viewers and cherry picks and misinterprets research. Income inequality is a problem but higher taxes aren’t a solution. This show is clearly pushing an agenda.

😂i died when he said we could give them free college😂😂cause that'll work
to give them free college the gov would have to raise taxes on guess who them. Even if you say tax the rich you cant tax the rich for everything and by taxing the rich you stall economic growth.
