    Credit where it’s due: you did a much better job explaining safety precautions to people. There’s another fellow with a solid channel, but he jumped right into the work and didn’t really mention the ways to avoid having the system live.
    Most folks are smart enough to flip the switch into tow, but you did a good job explaining how the lead acid batteries are always live. That will surprise and shock some people if they don’t know what to expect. #beenthere
    Thanks for putting this together. ✌️ 🍻

    Does the dc-dc converter waste much power, since it's always cnnected to a live battery, or is it negligible?
    Would it be better to tie the converter to the key switch, then it only go on when key is turned on?

      Standby current is about 1/4 amp so without a key on relay this will eventually drain the battery.

    Great vid! Question: my lithium pack has separate 12v pos/neg connections for accessories but I already have a reducer installed that was used w/ the lead acid batteries. Would you suggest just hooking the wires into the 48v terminals of the lithium pack that already run to the reducer like it was on the LA Batts and just keep it all wired like it was or remove the reducer and run the accessories off the 12v terminals on the lithium pack? Is one way better than the other, safer, easier? Appreciate any input you can offer!

      @@macmccall2314 Mac, I did more research on this and found out since I already have a voltage reducer installed that I should leave it there and just swap the 48v connections from the lead acid over to the 48v connections on the lithium pack, leave all the accessories hooked up to the reducer the way they are. Sounds way easy enough!

    • @mygt8a4re

      @@macmccall2314 I'm wondering if your light kit was run off the batteries while all your other accessories were hooked to the reducer maybe? If so you need to find those wires and either run them off your 12v side of the voltage reducer (if the amperage on the reducer is high enough for all you have hooked to it) or connect them to the 12v connections on the lithium pack if you have that option on your pack.

      @@mygt8a4re when i swapped everything, i put everything from the pack neg and pos onto the 48v neg/pos on the lithium pack. then i had a blue wire from the light kit harness that was on a single battery negative. I had 6 8v batts in the old setup. I do have 12v pos/neg on the lithium battery. It's got to be something simple but i can't figure it out.

    • @mygt8a4re
      @mygt8a4re 3 роки тому

      @@macmccall2314 I know on most light kits the main power wire is blue, but it wouldn't be hooked to a negative source. The way golf cart batteries run in series it was most likely a point where it read 16v pos, your 2nd 8v battery in a series connection. Most light kits can handle 16v. Take the blue wire and connect it to your 12v pos on your lithium pack. I can only assume that the light kit is still grounded somewhere. Did you have another wire left over? You may have to follow the wires from your light kit to be sure you have both a pos & neg connection wires for the lights

    I love the video, but have a question... I have a 2007 Columbia Par Car with 48v, I would like to be able to power the rig when the key is turned on only, that way I make sure it won't drain the batteries if a switch was left on!!! Get a volt meter and find a wire behind the key that has 48v when the key is on and zero volts when the key is off. Run the hot wire to that and negative to you main negative on your battery pack

    • @jbgolfcarts
      @jbgolfcarts  2 роки тому

      You’ll have cables coming from you controller and solenoid. That’ll be you main positive and negative. If you still can’t figure out which it is follow the back of your charger port. Those wires have to go to your main positive and negative to charge the batteries.

    How do you install on 48v and only want converter on when key is on? Having converter on 24/7 is a constant drain and needed use on converter...

    • @jbgolfcarts
      @jbgolfcarts  2 роки тому

      This converter doesn’t have a key option. You can wire the positive to the key when it’s on and zero volts when off. The 18amp does have an additional wire for the key switch.

    Shouldn't the voltage reducer be hooked up behind the switch so that it only gets power when the power switch is turned on? It looks like the way you hooked it up, the voltage reducer always gets power. Is there something I'm not understanding?

    I thought it was better to mount on metal to prevent fire if regulator overheats, no?

    • @jbgolfcarts

      No. I usually don’t like mounting electrical stuff like a voltage reducer on metal. If somehow it grounds since it’s on metal it could catch it on fire.

    I'm no expert, but it appears that the max output at 12V is 20A. That would be equivalent to 5A on the 48V side, so putting a 15A fuse on the 48V side seems too high.
