Milling Machine Simulator Game.... Yes This Actually Exists

- G'day everyone,
This weeks project ended up taking longer than expected, so instead I thought that I'd do something a little different. Recently I learnt that there was a new milling machine simulator game on pc, and I thought that it would be fun to experience it with you. The game is called milling machine simulator 3D. I expected it to be another poorly made simulator game, as many are, but it seemed to be more fleshed out and well made, although it needs more development. - Наука та технологія
A different type of video this week, but I hope you enjoy it regardless. Also #notsponsored
Rather have waited for the next project
One question left: IF they had a hacksaw in the game, would you have used it?
How long have you been watching Artisan?
Of course he will use the hacksaw even if the nearest one available is electric!
@@markfryer9880 He's hacked the game to do just that.
You know the answer to that lol
I want to play this old Tony in the game!
@@Zzeke he's in the Time Paradox dlc 💀
Me, a software engineer that just watches machinist videos for fun and relaxing: "Oh no."
LOL !
Same here
Me, a guy whose first job was a machinist apprentice, second job was video game dev, current job; tool maker. I am getting dizzy.
The line "apparently every other game possible must have been made" genuinely made me laugh out loud
“It’s many, many dollars less than buying your own milling machine” Possibly the best recommendation that a person could give lol. Side note, i love the fact that this exists.
Barely the cost of a chinese carbide end mill
@@MF175mp Also it gonna hold up a lot longer.
I've bought this simulator because i as a Carpenter want to learn how to Work with a mill and a lathe. ITS for "education purposes" i Hope, i know later, what I am doing ON a real mill without much damage one Tools, machine and workpieces....
@@Solihull88 Unfortunately, you won't learn anything from this. Nothing about this application translates to real world machine work. You can get an idea about recommended feeds and speeds for certain materials and cutter types/sizes etc I guess, but you can also get that straight out of the Machinery's Handbook. This app is just a fun quirky thing to laugh about and appreciate for it's own right.
It would be much more realistic if every time you broke a tool a little thought window came up and said "Well, there goes $xxx". Because that's what happens whenever I break a tool.
Ok this is way overdue but I believe it was your comment, that inspired us to do just that :) . Thanks!
"The undisputed champion, in the heavily competitive workshop simulator genre" ....can't breathe 😂
Yeah but he almost lost me when he said “Windows.”
I’m surprised milling chocolate could break a bit.
I just spent 10 minutes watching a guy play a milling machine simulator. I not only enjoyed every minute, but I’m considering buying the simulator myself…
If you don't want to spend the money on a full-size bandsaw, I would recommend a Portaband. Both Milwaukee and Dewalt make very good ones. You can also make a table to hold it upright to use it like a normal bandsaw. The Milwaukee is a little better suited for this.
Next week, two game reviews: paint your shop and wall watch the paint dry.
It would be REALLY cool if you could load your own gcode into this.
Absolutely
Yes, but the game simulates only a manual mill I think. And it doesn't run on Linux OSes if that matters to you. At least if you buy it via Steam where it's only $13.99 US (I'm writing this comment on 19 March 2023).
That was my first thought til I noticed it was manual. To REALLY go bananas, the quaint little shop should have a benchtop CNC mill as well.
@@YerBrwnDogAteMyRabit It would also be cool if you could export g-code from it as well. Basically use it as a little manual CAM software.
@@bobvines00 -You must have a This Old Tony time traveling lathe and set your lathe too far in the future as it’s March currently, not May 😉
As someone who gets paid to turn dials and break endmills I think it looks cool! Seems really helpful for figuring out speeds and feeds, which aren't very intuitive and could be difficult to figure out for beginners.
They do have the lathe version now lol thanks cuz im the weirdo that will spend 12 hours in the shop and then come sit down at my computer to play this type of game after doing the real work in my garage all day never had any idea they made this kinda game
I really want a milling machine. Ive become hooked having a lathe and have many ideas of what I could do on the milling machine. Maybe playing this game will finally make me commit to getting one hehe.
If I had a dollar for every time I saw that garage model in a game, I could buy a milling machine.
Who are you milking?
If there's a mod where I can give that mill, say, 500 HP then it might be some fun screwing around. Props to whoever wrote this though, it might be enough to get people interested in doing it for real.
My first thought exactly 😆
just finished a long day at the mill and honestly, i'm kinda pumped to go home and play milling machine simulator. it's like i can't get enough of milling, even after a whole day of it lol. who knew being a mill operator would turn into a gaming hobby too? 🤣
I could have sworn this was an April Fools' Day prank!
lolololololololo i laughed out loud at your opening commentary! amazing. thanks for sharing
Guess its better than spending hrs drawing and coding g-code to watch a simulation of you cutting material. Just cracks me up how you now have simulators for everything (only problem they forget things like backlash etc to make it more interesting)
i want a full gameplay series on this.
pd: bring Michael reeves so you can control a CNC with the user input on the game
The surface finish is AWESOME brother! Wow.
Hmm. I wonder if the game supports a throttle. That might work better for setting speeds than dragging a mouse around.
I also wonder if you could give the game CAD drawings to see how it'd work out.
at least it could be used as a playground so you can verify order or operations and clamping possibilities
It would not be too difficult to program an Arduino Leonardo as a CNC style jog wheel. Rotary encoders are cheap and add a few switches. Whalah. And you could have fun making a high quality knob for it all. The program could certainly be improved with a CNC mode.
@6:00, did he really just say skip using the hacksaw? Sacrilege! Watching you cut 30mmx50mm pieces of steel is one of my main motivations to watching the channel!
Take a look at the "Hotkeys" button in the top right corner. It'll make your life much easier.
Had a fun project where I wired up a Raspberry Pi & some rotary encoders with 3D printed handwheels. Not exactly one to one, but it lets me dream.
Is this the machine that makes stuffs for the metaverse?
I wonder if they'll come out with a CNC simulator?
Years ago I wrote a parametric tube design CAD system that had associative bend/stretch compensated CAM, which included manufacturing limitations. I did try to add sim, but I was a bit lost in it.
Too bad you can't drill the vice. How else are you gonna get those hot custom modifications?
Probably the table is safe, too...
"And it looks like, that for once, I can skip using the Hacksaw".
Yeah, this was hilarious
Can't wait for the Sandvik DLC
If you could run it as cnc and load g code from a cam package you could use this as a test for something you are making in real life. I immediately thought great now I can break milling cutters without even getting out of bed 😂
How does this game figure out when the tool breaks? Does it calculate the cutting forces? What equation might be used for that?
I think you could just use the rpm and nr of flutes of the cutter to calculate chipload per mm traversal. If that value exceeds the maximum chipload of the cutter used, it will break.
It would look someting like (rpm / 60 / nrOfFlutes ) * feed(in mm/s).
The maximum chipload will depend on diameter of the cutter used, and the materials it is made from.
This game is ripe for monetization.
*carbide rougher unlocked*
*insert end mill unlocked*
*face mill unlocked*
*ceramic end mill unlocked*
Don't forget The Lathe DLC!
😂 " ill happily do it to someone else's mill." Great
Cant wait for this channel to just turn into a "gaming" channel
That is when I will stop watching this channel, in fact, I did only watch about 5% of this video. Thumbs down all the way! You kids should not even be on YT! I bet you get off on gay porn over realistic marital sex too...
Can't wait til the sweeping and mopping simulator comes out.
Bought it thanks to you! UI games should sponsor you :).
We need you to use this instead of CAD software when designing projects now!
I work at a cnc shop and while the parts are running I play milling machine simulator, but in the game I go to the computer terminal to play 16-bit lathe simulator that I use to run minecraft at the lowest graphic settings.
So here, is the real question: can this be used as a leaning tool on how to use a milling machine?
The tool breakage never seems to work right lmao shell mills made of glass!
I see why this weeks project fell behind in its production 😉
haha! Too much gaming! 🤬
its a nice toy at the moment though i guess with a cnc style handwheel remote controller you should be able to make it move a little less clunky in operation
dont seem to be able to choose a machine (having an rf45 clone myself )
do think that it be a nice program to test tools on for amount of power needed to run it , introducing chatter at the right points , having the part shoot off the table if you dont have enough clamping , and feeds and speeds
think it could become usefull if the developper puts a little more work in it and maibe inputs about 2/3ths of the data out of the machinist handbook in it so it responds a little more realistic in finishes on the material
its going to end up being a huge program to be able to work with all that data
You forgot to cut the thread in the T-nut.
That goes into the box of shame.
I can not wait to see Markiplier play this and butcher my profession even more then I have
Very interesting thank you, this may be useful working out the order of operations for some jobs? Sometimes in the winter my shed is to cold,
Does this game discern between conventional and climb cutting? Seems like a cool little game, but seems to be a VERY stripped down idea of what is involved in machining, like its basically feeds and speeds the game. Indicating your vise, modifying the cutting edges of your drill or tools for different materials, work holding w/ various clamping systems, using sine bars, measuring devices, indicating the head of your machine, keeping everything square. Hopefully they add more to it! A machining game is sorely needed.
Wait for the add on, Tool and cutter grinder- reclaiming broken cutters"😁😁
Hahah this looks so fun! 20 bucks will save you 20 grand on a mill and tooling. Very cool
The fact that this exists makes me giggle. :)
welcome back to artisan games
Well that’s a few minutes of my life I will never get back! 🥴
Ok when are they coming out with hand dial controller hardware that give you actual feed back? That would actually be pretty cool
Great idea for a side project. 😎
There is a VR lathe game on steam that is free, i dont have a VR headset but it seems ok.
Heh, as of Feb 2024 the same developer has also released a Lathe Simulator on Steam. Now you can break infinite carbide inserts for the price of a single simulator.
cant wait for someone to come out with milling crank handle controllers. maybe even a quill controlling for the game. Personally I would love to see a CNC game. maybe a knockoff HAAS mill you can put g code in and such. Well I guess in the mean time there are expensive cam software for that.
Well I’ll be stuff, there really is a game for everything out there…
Looks like this game/sim could be useful for beginner mill users (me) to practice working out their machining steps
Interesting game, already thought about something like this. I'd like it if you didn't have those exact measurements just showing, but to actualy having to tram stuff in and using an indicator and the dials on the machine. In that sense it's kinda unrealistic.
I wish this were like a kennametal product and was like a training sim… that would be sick
This would be absolutely awesome on an arcade machine with joysticks and a keyboard. I would put my quarter in the machine
All the simulators put there help. Doesn't even matter if they are realistic most stuff won't change much to the real world
this will go well with my garden keeper simulator game...
I wonder if it could be useful as a tool to plan order of operations for a project ?
Jokes aside, it's actually a game I would play considering I'm as broke as those bits it might be my nearest experience of milling anything I could experience.
Actually i was expecting it as its in the title of your video.
:D lol. That is hilarious. Soon everything will have happened for sure!
I wonder how good this would be as a teaching tool. Also those clunky controls, does it have controller support? That would enable more precies controls.
It would be cool if it saves a finished game as g-code that you can run on a real CNC.
No, but you can export it to step and print it in 3D printer:)
@@UI-Games-Dev if you have a step file you can run it in a cam program and make a gcode file. Although simple stuff like this I program by hand at the machine.
They added a Lathe DLC if you're interested
Use the shell mill in the horizontal spindle
Anybody else who tried to "skip the intro" around 0:55 because he thought it was a real youtube advertising?
You could just face off the top of your vise jaws since that end mill mark isn't that deep.
I did, that was last year :)
@@artisanmakes ok 👍
Is that MWM late 80s milling machine in the game? It looks like one.
The only thing I would want to make this "Game" useful , would be the ability to load a cnc program. and check it for errors or to check it for run time.
We will also add CNC machine in this game:)
This game needs to be combined with Goat Simulator
What's the red/green circle at the bottom center supposed to be for? I couldn't quite figure it out from what was going on in the game.
My take was that it would be stress on the bit, green when no, transitionning to red when close to failure
Maybe heat? Looks like agitated atoms.
"Dont break the Shell Mi..." oh. 😎
there is a lathe simulator but i don't think it's no steam but it is free and also available on phones
Sound effects are the same from the game Perpetuum 😂
I play something similar with fusion 360. Then move over to a real machine and repeat it.
I was not able to kill tools in F360 ;)
@@peter.stimpel that happens in the real life version
@@MF175mp wo we are in the same team, I guess
Is there a 3018 version? Did they use Unreal5?
We made this in Unity:)
No keyboard controls at all?
The most unrealistic part is the instant tool changes...
At the very least, tool changes should have noises like you're using a hydraulic tool holder.
@@slartimus no you should have to click and drag the mouse to wind the draw bar in and out manually like I have to lol. Same for the collet holder and drill chuck. And for extra realism it should only come with parallels in certain sizes that are all slightly wrong for the job at hand..
We will add more animations there:)
@@UI-Games-Dev for ultimate realism you have to make it as frustrating to use as a real one... Lmao
There exist a lathe simulator game.
Didn't you google it?
THAT WAS A FISTHISTLEWITZ REFERENCE.
No threading?
Late to the party. I find it interesting that almost nobody recognized the tool stress indicator in the center bottom. As a visual indicator, it is decent. I think it would be better with audio added - need that chatter.
That looks like DONN diy's place! 🙂
Not enough rusty scrap metal or broken down cars lying around!
Forklift simulator next plz
Is there an extra fee for broken tooling?
i would buy it if you could do it with G codes too
edit, looking it more, there is a lathe dlc now
Try it with a force feedback steering wheel.
Soooo... It doesn't have taps?
that was great, well enjoyed.
Hi J.P , i kind of miss your face :) its been ~2 years since your last appearance?
What the heck is that cell culture weirdness at the bottom middle?
Nice one, thanks!
