I had a lot of trouble getting below 1:20 until I spent more time just practicing solving the initial white cross faster, over and over again, without even worrying about the rest. It is by far, the slowest step, for most beginners. Now I know why speed cubers examine the cube for 15 seconds before hand. It's so you can get that white cross solved almost instantly, after that it's pretty much robotic.

I’m learning f2l and shit does not feel robotic lol. I’m getting pretty fast once I’ve got a corner and edge chosen, but I spend so much time looking around deciding which colour is best to do next!

@@bencressman6110i did two things to get better at this:
      1. really get the f2l algs in your head so you dont have to think at all. I looked at the two pieces then closed my eyes to put them in.
      2. Set up a metronome (via yt or Google etc) and try to do one turn per beat. This will bring your look-ahead on another level. Obviously start really slow (e.g. One beat every 2 seconds) and become faster and faster.

This is so awesome! I was a kid in the early 1980's when the Rubik's Cube first became popular in the US. My best solve time was 1:07. I was 12 or 13, I don't quite remember. I just started cubing 2 months ago. Was with my daughter, and it was time for saturday candy. I was wadling around while she was in full candy mode, and saw the rubiqs cube on sale. I thought "well, i haven't ever been able to do this, so why not now?". Jperm taught me the beginner method, and the feeling i had when i first solved it? uhruhglkldnghdm. Best part is i got my little girl into it, aswell. We are now competing for time, and it's close :P I got 1.30 yesterday, and she is just behind at 1.41. But holy crap it helps with the speedcubes (got them a month in). It's like a whole different ballgame. The "sexy moves" are nowhere near as easy on the old school cubes.
Thanks, Jperm :) You made a life goal of mine possible. And it also created a fun competition for me and my daughter :)

After finding your video 2 days ago, i started practicing again. I thought if you could do it, I can do it to. Now I went from an average of 2min 30sec to solve the 3x3 cube to 1min 30sec. My personal record was 1min 17sec using the beginners method. Thanks for the motivation! 💪
