The metal bridge over the river is made by Eiffel, as in Eiffel Tower fame. It's worth a look. Just drink some coca tea for the altitude sickness. It works great.
Loved Arequipa. I didn’t find the altitude as bad as Cusco. Diamox can help...as can hydration. Must see is Juanita the Ice Mummy/Princess. Do a walking tour..so fun!
Thanks for visiting the land of the freedom. Those are very godd advices.the city and their surrondings have plenty to offer.Stay at least 3 days and visit the wine tour before going straight to colca.
My trip to Arequipa was probably the best one I had in my life. I love that city. Too bad I got sick on the last day. My wife almost killed me because I made us take the bus there but we returned by plane to Lima to compensate. I saw 10 Condors flying at the same time in the Colca canyon. Next stop I will go to the Pantanal in Brazil to see wild Jaguars. My wife is not amused.
I really enjoy your videos. Many of these places I'll never go to, some I've already been to, I've always loved to travel but I'm getting up in my years and can't do as much. But it's always fun to watch your adventures and live vicariously through them. The comments you get are interesting as well, I've noticed many people from where you are give you very positive reviews. Subscribed and looking forward to where we go next! Safe travels to you and your family.
Thanks for the warnings about altitude sickness. My partner almost died in Aspen because of that when his lungs filled with fluid. Great video! I personally hope to go soon when we can. I love Peru--food and people and scenery are fantastic. Thank you for all your wonderful informational videos.
That would be a great place to visit. I love historic architecture. It looks like you don't need to go on all those fancy hikes to have a good time. How's the coffee there
There are good places to drink coffe like inside gamesa galleries in the historic center and good brands like Valenzuela. But If you want quality ask for cafeterea mercaderes.
The altitude has to do with your current health, particularly your cardio health and how in shape you are. In Bogota I was winded the first week of walking around town (I had maybe a 40 BMI and never did exercise in my life). After that first week of walking a lot, no problem. In Quito it was the first few days, after living for months near sea level, exercising regularly but no cardio, and after the first couple days I was fine. Going up from 1500 meters to 2500 when I moved to Arequipa this summer I had 0 days of effects of altitude.
Mark: Just wanted to point out that MAL is Spanish for sickness in the expression of MAL DE ALTURA. It can also mean ailment or disease in other expressions. Great video. Happy Travels!
Hey Walter! I love you videos, I was in Arequipa for New Years 2020... I think your dos and don’ts are great content. I wish you’d do a few vids that go a little more in depth. For example, at the central market, how do you pick the right fruit juice vendor when you can’t drink the water? Or, how the bus terminals work on arrival and departure, I figured it out, but it was a little confusing. You mention travel agencies, which there are a ton, how do you pick the right one?

I saw a woman struggling to breath when I was in Cusco. A group of people was doing the Cusco city tour and a woman in the group was having difficulty breathing. The tour guide was really worried.
Arequipa is 1000 feet lower than Cuenca. How rough is the altitude compared to Cuenca? Is it okay for people over 60 to visit or retire in Arequipa? Are there American and Canadian expats?
Your comments about altitude sickness should not be taken lightly. I live at ~6000 ft and often recreate above 10,000 ft and it can be a problem, especially for those who live at low elevation. Many tourists here have problems with it. Just remember to take in deep breaths through your nose, and exhale through your mouth with pursed lips. That will really help bring in oxygen and expel CO2.
Your wrong about toilet paper. I can't really imagine putting soiled toilet paper in a plastic bin and not flushing it down the toilet. I have been and done Arequipa.
@@Kanal7Indonesia For heaven's sake. There are so many interesting issues, but American travelers are obsessed about eating and foods which occupies probably 50% of the videos. It's very silly.
We are going to Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia for 2 months, start early October 2021. Thank you for all your tips!
Omg! AREQUIPA so beautiful 😋♥️

Arequipa is the modern day Petra. It is a stone city, a world heritage site referred to as a“masterpiece” by Unesco

What do you recommend for a first time traveler to Peru Cusco or arequipa
Are you rich? How do you get to travel to so many awesome places? I’m so jealous, nice video by the way!
Hey Wolters, I would like to know more about Macao in China. Have you been there? I love your channel!

Why don't you give us the elevation (in ft or meters)???
I want to practic emy english, if there are someone to do, i'll apreciate it.

The word MAL means bad OR sick.

Why do American travel videos emphasize food more than anything?
U need food to survive…

Little that I know about arequipa is through history is that how arequipa betrayed Peru during the war between Peru-Chile
That's not true it was the other way around.
