Just got 304 Ah out of my 4S EVE 280k pack with a JK BMS. Three times in a row. Really happy with these. The sides of the cells are concave. And these where A- grade. The cells keep within 2-3 mV all along the charge or discharge curve. 100 mV at the bottom end. And they return to almost perfect balance when charging. My first lithium battery, it's going into my boat. Thanks Andy for all the good stuff, it has been mighty helpful!
I took off the bms on my electric scooter because it fried and put in parallel with a battery pack with a good bms, so now it doenst have balancing, and after 100 discharges, (maybe less but consideratble) the cells are still in balance! No bms required. I tried to balance them manaully in the beginnig when i noticed a high one, i had 20 w 3ohm resistor i think it was, and it took like 5 minutues to burning off .1 volts. I think it was actually less like .01volts, it was surprising how long and how much heat bruning off that much energy took. I dont know how any BMS can reasonably balance anything with the tiney resistors they use to be honest, i think they rely more on good balanced cells to begin with, and the cells i have at leaste confirm they really dont need a bms, not once every charge cycle anyway, maybe aonce every month or something. But thats just my skeptic 2 cents view i may have gotten lucky with this pack of cells.
The price of the lifepo4 battery has dropped a lot lately. I finally bought and received four 12v 100ah batteries for 150usd each, and they all have Bluetooth built in. I watched many of your videos and have learned a lot from you, and it helps me understand those numbers in the BMS Bluetooth apps much better. Thank you so much Andy ❤
Made exactly the same tests with 8 pcs. MB31 cells a few weeks ago. Lowest capacity was 328,9 Ah and the highest was 331,0 Ah. Curves are overlapping in the same way. In February I've testet 16 pcs. of LF304 and the range was between 307,7 and 312,6 Ah. The LF304 was the previous style of making with the coiled electrode sheets and the small bellies. The new LF280 and the MB31 are more similar as they have the new stacked electrode sheets and no more belly outside.

I found this video particularly useful. So far I have made up three 16S2P packs with another one about to be assembled. Up to now I have done a full charge-discharge-charge cycle on each cell which has taken about a month for each pack. Part of the reason for doing this was to pair the best cells with the worst ones to even out the cell capacity across the pack. As the spread of cell capacity in my packs was greater than Andy's it was a worthwhile exercise and effectively added about 1.5% capacity to each 16S2P pack. However by doing a full charge-discharge of the whole pack it is easy to spot the strong and weak 2P combinations. By swapping one cell from the weakest 2P with one from the strongest 2P this helps to even out the pack. If the difference between the second strongest and second weakest is significant the process can be repeated and so on. The 16S2P setup is not that popular but has worked well for me. It halves the number of BMSs, cables, switches, c/b's required. It does mean making your own busbars which each now connect four rather than two terminals but that isn't difficult.
My 3 year old EVE 280ah cells are so reliable I turned the balance function off over a year ago. They never go beyond 40mv out of balance when being charged or discharged at .25c. Absorption mode is set at 3.465v for 15 minutes.
I use the Jun-si Celllog 8s. It has a buildin logging capability. LogView can be used to download and view the data. It is for 8 cells only, but you can use two of them for larger packs when not connected to USB. If connected they are fried, because of a shortcut between both because USB is not isolated, and USB would connect cell 1 to cell 9. There is also JLog Cell Voltage Sensor CVS16 in combination with LogView. With this you can just discharge the whole pack once and get the discharge curves for 8 ir 16 cells each. This also allows the use of the discharged energy.
I get my EVE LF280K 304AH cells from Gobelpower ... No issues. Working to have 6x batteries using the EEL DIY V3 boxes. So hopefully I'll get to that 1800AH level that can last me a few days. Documenting everything so I can come back in a year or two, and see how things are going 👍 All because of Andy 👍😁
Yes, unfortunately testing the LiFePo4 cells always takes a long time😅 That's why I usually only test one cell. And then at the end the complete storage block again. The cells currently supplied are actually all very well matched to each other. So the best thing to do is just put everything together, put it into operation and that's it...😉😂
Hello Andy, so much work... Why not discharge the whole battery an track all cell voltages in HA? You will be 16 times faster and in HA there is no limit of number of curves.
That was the point of the video and what I said😊It's not worth doing, the single capacity tests don't bring any new info than we already got from testing the pack. HA would be a solution as well...
Enjoying the performance of the JK's. Half dozen more on the way. I'll have nine in operation with three on the shelf so someday when one goes boom and JK has moved on to making non compatible BMS's, I'll have a replacement or two.
Hi Andy thank you 🎉 for your many great videos. Keep it up. I have one more request for JK firmware. Can you check the output for the heating? In my firmware, the heater is switched on when the undertemperature protection is triggered and stops when the reset temperature is reached. It would be better the other way around, so you avoid that the battery turns off.
Andy, waiting for you to test the FCHAO inverter with your 51.2V boxes. Can you test the precharge circuit on the JKBMS? I understand that it limits to 125A but only when you initially turn on the JKBMS.
so build an insulated box , for example 30mm XPS..... the charging and uncharged heats up enough provided that it is not too cold outside .... when installed in a shed...
Also a slower charge rate increases capacity ive noticed. I read this somewhere too, something about giving it time to absorb. I had the idea of "Stretching" the batteriers, discharging them on a range of voltages from max to minimum. Thats anotehr thing i noticed with my escooter battery pack. I run it down to 0 almost everytime but it doesnt loose capacity in like 3000km. Compared to my cell phone or laptop where ive constantly toppped up from 80% to full , ive lost noticable capacity in that situation. So maybe a good stretch would also help maybe restore or mainatin capacity. charge to 3.4, discharge, charge to 3.5 , discharge, and on and on until you hit 4.2, or in reverse, stretch it good? Battery stretcher, would be an aliexpress hit!
Has there been any improvement on the 100balance BMS, especially concerning the balancing? What about firmware updates? Apparently they now also offer a additional communication board for connecting to inverters, just like the JK-PB ("Inverter-Style"). Maybe it has potential to one day compete with the 'king'?
There is a way for the JK bms to stop the beep sound when is connected with Batmon in Home Assistant? This could be a good feature request, my battery is in my laboratory garage too and the beeping sound is annoying. My yixiang cells with the same anodized double stud terminals have an inconsistent temperature on the welding of the terminals, with high power requests from battery, some remains cold and some get warmer. The bus bar connections are perfect and don't get warm, but the welding are not perfect to me. Thanks for your amazing work.
I bought 32 pcs of 280AH CATL from Yixiang. But without a tester, I could not measure the actual AH of each cells. So far, they are no different from the 280AH EVE from Basen I got 2 years ago. Maybe Yixiang delivered "For UA-cam Influencer Grade" cells to Andy, or maybe it was simply because I bought CATL instead of EVE...
With a modern BMS you can create a graph for each cell anyway. You simply need to write your own script or use home assistant with some integration or and esphome...
I HAVE A JK BMS REQUEST 😂 I have two EG4 12000XPs and 6 Yixiang Batteries with 320AH REPT cells and 200 AMP JK BMS. The REPT cells are not very well matched so the balancer on my BMS works overtime. Currently I am operating my inverter in lead acid battery mode so the batteries have a better chance of top balancing until JK rolls out the new update. HERES A THOUGHT! Can JK engineers take advantage of the 10 amp charging limiter and turn it on when the battery is top balancing? When my batteries are trying to top balance, after the BMS reconnects from a cell over voltage, there's a huge inrush of current, over 50 amps sometimes, which causes the BMS to disconnect pretty much immediately. This would be cool to have, it can be triggered my high voltage disconnect and disabled by time and/or discharge power, say once the battery starts discharging over 20 amps, it disables the charging limit. Just a thought! Thanks for all you do Andy!
Ah, right, that is a problem with the cells, not with the JK BMS. I would not like to be throttled to 10A when balancing starts, so I think this is not a good solution. It may work for your specific case but for most other users, it would be bad. If the BMS goes into OVP during charging, there is something fundamentally wrong with the battery. A BMS cannot (and should not) fix that.
@ well when you put it that way, I agree. Yixiang definitely screwed me over then. They say the cells are fine when in fact, they obviously aren’t and they don’t seem to want to do anything about it! I guess they give you great customer service because you’re a UA-camr. I know in past videos you’ve stated that you believe you receive equal customer service because if you didn’t you would hear many complaints. Either way, I’m pretty upset I’ve spent $10000 on junk batteries.
Ooof. Adjust the numerical format for your spreadsheet so the numbers line-up (force it to display 2 fractional digits). In anycase, impressive capacities. I like the testing methodology. Hey, I wonder... if you had an active balancer programmed to stay on 100% of the time, would you get any more capacity for the whole pack testing under those conditions? Probably not but it would be an interesting test. -Matt
I just finished testing the capacity of my new 304a/h EVE cells and the highest capacity was 307a/h - kinda disappointing when the previous batch was measuring 315a/h
@@OffGridGarageAustralia Correct EVE LF304 I've just finished 4s configuration capacity testing. Charged to 14.6v discharge to 10v and I got 306.22Ah. I did wonder if these cells were actually LF280's but when I checked their weight they are 5.5kgs so that seems correct.
@@TheRonskiman "Usually you can turn that feature on in the options" Exactly! "i don't think it's related to the video itself." Try to find subtitles for this video yourself. I think you won't succeed. Thanks for nothing LOL
@@MR-ub6sq That is weird, just had a look as I'm now on the PC, UA-cam can generate subtitles by voice recognition, even translate to a different language but neither option exists for this video, sorry no idea why not.
@@TheRonskiman Exactly. I'm not sure either, but I suspect that the content creator MAY have forgotten some setting when publishing the video or inadvertently changed a setting that determines the subtitles and the language spoken in the video. There are settings for this when publishing each video. You may have noticed that by chance a video where English is spoken - the translation fails because an error has been made in the video's publishing settings - the automatic translation is told that the language of the audio track is, for example, Hindi. Well, because Google Translate then "listens" to English, which it tries to understand as Hindi - the end result in the automatic translation is also absurd. I know the PUBLISHER can fix this too if they want. So I believe that the lack of subtitles is also fixable by the publisher. Just one incorrect checkbox etc...
@@TheRonskiman I just checked the video settings. UA-cam has a "Default Upload Settings" for all videos published to the channel, which includes, among other things, "Video Language". When it is selected correctly, each video will be accompanied by translated subtitles. But when publishing each video, it is possible to give a setting for this individual video that "overrides" the default setting. So the publisher has apparently accidentally selected the language for this video as "Not Applicable". In some cases, the wrong language has been accidentally selected, making the subtitles incomprehensible - when the translator tries to interpret English speech as some other language that is incorrectly set. So Andy could check the settings for his video.
now, take 8 cells and leave them at low SOC and take 8 cells that is charged to 100% /3.65v pr cell, mix them and put them back in the box and let the JK balance the cells until they are the same, how long time will it take.
In theory 1200 hours, if 8 at 100%, 8 at 0% and the JK is a 2A version. But in real they will not get balanced proper., as balancing at 50% SOC is almost Impossible.

i got REPT 280Ah cells from Yixiang but they are bad. no qr details also the top sheet on the case is not in there anymore, is it possible to let jk make a max Amp option? so the bms never exceeds a x amps? now when max A is there it turns off. when you have more packs then everything shuts off when a few are empty
No QR details? Not even when you enter the code manually here? www.gobelpower.com/lifepo4_decoder.html What is the top sheet on the case? You didn't get a lid??? In the JK BMS, turn on PCL in the Control section of the BMS. This will limit the charging current to 10A instead of disconnecting the BMS altogether.
Greetings from Kassel, Germany, the city of Documenta. So why does EVE sell cells with 304 Ah as 280 Ah-cells? Simple answer: they can claim larger cycle numbers, i.e. 8000 cycles instead of only 6000. EVE certainly has noticed, that 8000 cycles vs 6000 is a stronger argument for buyers than 304 vs 280 Ah.
Could it be that these are simply "bad" 304Ah batteries? That is, produced as 304Ah but with insufficient capacity and then labeled as 280Ah. Not that this would be a bad thing, but it would be an explanation.

Hallo Andy! Nachricht aus Europa! Ich warne Sie, Sie haben nicht mehr viel Zeit! Ihre Zeit läuft genau am Samstag, 21. Dezember 2024 um 10:19 Uhr ab! Wir werden dich verfolgen!!! Hahahaha...(Frankenstein lacht):)))
Good movie again, thanks Andy! I see Yinxiang is sending you the parts as requested but; Why is Yixiang not sending me the right busbar for one of my boxes! They prommissed to send it, but after asking, asking and keeping asking it appeared that the small part was missing. Now they send me another busbar (they say) but nothing received. After 3 months my conclusion is: it is better to construct your own battery shelf! Yinxiang Arsch......
Yeah, that is really bad service. If they promise to send you new busbars, they need to do it! Maybe they shipped with economy mail. That can take a few weeks until they arrive.
Owe stop going on about you mid summer amps.... Us up north are struggling...... Give it 6 months tides turn......ha ha. But on a good point, if it wasn't for people like you posting you up and downs on your experience with lifepo4.......where would we all be??? It's thanks to you that IV gone from AGM battery with other bits, thinking why can't I just simply run my shed....... Now, with your advice and seeing your experience ect........ I'm running my house (ISH) and my workshop, and next doors pool..... through summer. Thanks Andy
Late to the party but got my first set of 16 MB31's in today! Case...well....that's gonna be a while. Labeling the cells, inventorying QR codes etc for Santa right now...

This TESTER is STUPID! So much power is wasted, they could make it output regulated voltage so you could connect other batteries to charge :) and only if output need less amps only then it should use resistance to keep needed dishcharge amps
WHATS THE POINT OF THIS VIDEO?? DO you really think they would send you crap?? they intentionally sends you the best stuff so you could talk about it and people will buy and then people may get crappy cells. It's chinese....they do those games.
I thought it was interesting to measure the "top balancing" of how many of your 16K viewers on your last video that would actually click and watch the "Andy's Off-Grid Garage" song I made for you, and the answer for the top balancing is 1.2K @anneseleneUK :) - so about every 13 person would click trough.

I guess they give you great customer service because you’re a UA-camr. I know in past videos you’ve stated that you believe you receive equal customer service because if you didn’t you would hear many complaints. Either way, I’m pretty upset I’ve spent $10000 on junk batteries.

Hi Andy. Do you know anyone who runs LifePo4 with Lithium Ion
Thanks
Maybe some test🙂

I really like the Apexium diy 280 box
Did you already made video about bluetti battery?
Damn! I'm getting 300w on a 12 KW system because Winter is almost here.
I just finished testing the capacity of my new 304a/h EVE cells and the highest capacity was 307a/h - kinda disappointing when the previous batch was measuring 315a/h
Are these EVE LF304?
@@OffGridGarageAustralia Correct EVE LF304 I've just finished 4s configuration capacity testing. Charged to 14.6v discharge to 10v and I got 306.22Ah. I did wonder if these cells were actually LF280's but when I checked their weight they are 5.5kgs so that seems correct.
Does this battery box JK BMS has heating option ports?
could be great if you can test some new eve lf560k cells
Hey Andy! Why didn't this video have subtitles in different languages like your other videos do?
Usually you can turn that feature on in the options, oi don't think it's related to the video itself.
@@TheRonskiman "Usually you can turn that feature on in the options"
Exactly!
"i don't think it's related to the video itself."
Try to find subtitles for this video yourself.
Any reason why you are using the EB Tester Software version 1.8.5 instead of 1.8.8?
now, take 8 cells and leave them at low SOC and take 8 cells that is charged to 100% /3.65v pr cell, mix them and put them back in the box and let the JK balance the cells until they are the same, how long time will it take.
In theory 1200 hours, if 8 at 100%, 8 at 0% and the JK is a 2A version.
But in real they will not get balanced proper., as balancing at 50% SOC is almost Impossible.
hi, Subtitle not working ?
Don't know. Try from another device. I haven't changed any settings.
Andy, You are the premier solar experimentalist on youtube! I would like to communicate with you about a new technique for balancing parallel battery strings you would probably like to see in action. How do we communicate?
Is this new technology already available on the market or just an idea?
@@OffGridGarageAustralia It's not a technology that can be sold; rather it's an advanced technique any solar DIY project can use...I have some links to send you. Is there a suitable email address for that?
@@OffGridGarageAustralia It's not a technology that can be sold; it's rather a wiring technique usable with DIY projects.. Is there an email address I can send it to you? It's very effective.

@fetmanjones6312 email is on my website, first page bottom.
i got REPT 280Ah cells from Yixiang but they are bad. no qr details also the top sheet on the case is not in there anymore, is it possible to let jk make a max Amp option? so the bms never exceeds a x amps? now when max A is there it turns off. when you have more packs then everything shuts off when a few are empty
No QR details? Not even when you enter the code manually here?
www.gobelpower.com/lifepo4_decoder.html
What is the top sheet on the case? You didn't get a lid???
In the JK BMS, turn on PCL in the Control section of the BMS.
This will limit the charging current to 10A instead of disconnecting the BMS altogether.
So you are capacity testing each cell while they are connected in series? Does that not skew test results? I guess not.
No it doesn't as the tester is across one cell and the balance cables are disconnected.
ma senza sotto titoli , io come faccio a seguirti ????????
Hello!
Hilfe wohin ist das Transkript verschwunden? Mit geschriebenem Englisch komm ich einigermaßen klar, aber beim gesprochenen bin ich total aufgeschmissen!
Sie machen es super gut, alles (Lumir Czech Republic)
Thank you.
Still 100,000.... I think the counter is stuck 😅🎉
Yeah, made this video before the big number. All updated in the next one😉
👍👍
Hello!
Pls test cells that have done like 2000 or 3000 cycles
For a moment there Andy you sounded like Santa Claus. Ho ho 🎅
Stop showing those amps! You're depressing your US viewers.
... and the European viewers.
😂
Haha, here we Indians have plenty of them at dirt cheap price 😂
I am in winter in baghdad now ad it's 12 pm I am charging with 145A including load.
😂😂😂😂
boom boom boom , 100k
Yep, got it now! Crazy!
Hallo Andy!
Nachricht aus Europa!
Ich warne Sie, Sie haben nicht mehr viel Zeit! Ihre Zeit läuft genau am Samstag, 21. Dezember 2024 um 10:19 Uhr ab!
Wir werden dich verfolgen!!!
Hahahaha...(Frankenstein lacht):)))
Good movie again, thanks Andy!
I see Yinxiang is sending you the parts as requested but;
Why is Yixiang not sending me the right busbar for one of my boxes!
They prommissed to send it, but after asking, asking and keeping asking it appeared that the small part was missing.
Now they send me another busbar (they say) but nothing received.
After 3 months my conclusion is: it is better to construct your own battery shelf!
Yinxiang Arsch......
Because that is the Chinese worker's....or forget or they put the rong one inside. Just wait few more weeks or months for the rest....
Yeah, that is really bad service. If they promise to send you new busbars, they need to do it!
Maybe they shipped with economy mail. That can take a few weeks until they arrive.
👍
🥈
Next time : silver plate from youtube arrived , right !?
It will take a few weeks. Maybe in January...
Thanks Andy
So about $550 to make up a 300ah battery? Thats buying a BMS, Case, wires . Not bad I gues for some great batteries.
🐸🐸🐸
Hello, Berlin!
always a great video well deserved 100k should be 150k lol like bitcoin
Thank you. I sold my BTC too early.
Late to the party but got my first set of 16 MB31's in today! Case...well....that's gonna be a while. Labeling the cells, inventorying QR codes etc for Santa right now...
I got 48 three weeks ago. Still working on top balance. Just got a BMS for series balance.
3 weeks for top balancing??? Do you build 3 batteries or just one with 3p configuration?
Yeah , yeah , yeah, y los subtitulos, no todos hablamos ingles 😤

What are your thoughts on mixing these 280 cells from different generation, good or bad idea? Congrats on your 1,000 subscribers Andy I always thought you would get there as your channel is so informative, and entertaining too!! Ken in mid Wales.
Thanks you!
Mixing these batteries is not a problem at all. Even having different cells in one battery will work fine. If you haven't seen it already, have a look at the Frankenstein Battery we built here on the channel. 280 and 304 cells from 5 different deliveries mixed in one pack, old, new certified cells and B-Grade cells. And the battery works very well!

Yixiang Send me such abttery, i will create youtube channel and will make videos about how great you are! :D I need batteries mroe than Andy, Andy already have too much! :D
Andy.... I have kept quiet for a long time and have been watching your channel for a long time.... Please do something about your close up, out of focus shots, where you want us to actually be able to see what you are showing... It is not nice to have to try and look at something we must see, as this is the focus of the shot and everything is totally out of focus. Sorry for this but you must do better here now you have reached 100K in subs... Please do better here. And thank you for the effort you do put into your videos.....
