I saw Atarashii Gakko at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago just after this song was released. The place was packed (capacity 5000) and loud and when the crowd was jumping you could feel the floor flexing. As a metalhead in his 50's, I had a blast with my daughter, and it was the first concert I attended that didn't have a band playing.... I didn't mind it at all, the ladies were very entertaining. 🤘
Drummer Nao inspired many Japanese female drummers and others. Including Akane from bandmaid who took up the drums and dropped the trombone after seeing her and is now buddies with her.
Maximum The Hormone is an Incredible metal band and so underrated globally. Atarashi Gakko is IMO the best JPOP group and better than any KPOP group. Thanks for the great reaction.. The Japanese are so good at mixing genres that you would never think that would work but they make it work to perfection. Here is MTH live with their song Koi No Sperma ua-cam.com/video/AUeRiPyjFH4/v-deo.html
This was a band, Maximum The Hormone, and a group, Atarashii Gakko. Atarashii means "new" and Gakko means "school". These are the New School Leaders. This video was used to open the Atarashii Gakko concert I went to in Atlanta. You had a great reaction to it. Thanks!
3:30 I love that no matter what, in all of their videos, if Daisuke isn't screaming he's just goin fuckin apeshit in the background xD and also when he IS screaming lol
Shimi is an old MTH song and the melodic verses were originally sung by their drummer Nao. She still gets to sing in the final verse, but most are sung by Atarashii Gakko (New School) who are the four women in the school sailor suit uniforms. MTH and AG! have different musical styles, but both groups are iconoclasts that challenge people's expectations so this collaboration just works. AG! were formed in 2015 by the Asobisystem agency. They released a couple of jazz influenced albums and produced a lot of interesting choreography, but they didn't have much success in Japan and were dropped by their record label in 2019. They were signed by the American label 88Rising in 2020 and produced some music with Money Mark and had some success in the US and then went viral in Japan in 2023 with "Otona Blue". In 2024 they were a hit at Cochella and did their first world tour. I'll leave it to MTH fans to recommend more of their music, but for AG! next look for "Atarashii Gakko, Otona Blue, The First Take".
@@lordspydergaming3154 I would agree with Otona Blue being creepy if the lyrics weren't written by AG! It's not a comfortable message for many people, but I think it might be an honest one. More problematic IMO was "Amayo No Seppun" which had Mizyu singing some suggestive lyrics at a fairly young age that were written by Yuu Aku. However, the song can be interpreted innocently and is too beautiful for me not to like it and it's great for Mizyu now that she's an "old lady".
@@cuttysark8017 well you guys did it again I just saw another reactor completely write of AG! Because they were told to react to Otanablue. Metal heads aren't ever going to like this creepy ass song. I want you to personally write a letter to Suzuka for requesting this song to any one... what is wrong with Tokyo Calling? The one that they chose to perform in the US first? Seriously stop requesting this song.
MTH, amazing band. They seamlessly manage to blend 4 genres, 4 different vocal styles and 5 different time signatures into a song and make it sound GREAT, oh didn’t mention, they do that for every song, and somehow they don’t really repeat song styles 🔥 🔥
MTH are legends in Jaoan and very influential. They are incredible with their time changes, gebne flips and some really sick riffs. The drummers from Band-Maid & Nemophila were inspired by MTH's drummer (Nao) that females opuld be drummers. Hanabie started out as MTH cover band. Also bassist Wakazaemon (who tours with with ex-Megadeath guitarist Marty Friedman) was in a MTH franchise band. Check out Satsui Vs Satsui
If you knew each group individually beforehand you'd understand why this collab is more shocking and unlikely ... but it works! There is also a "making of" video that is pretty entertaining ;) .
Fun fact.. this isn´t really a collaboration. Shimi is an old theme from Maximun de Hormone, featured in their album Buiikikaesu in 2006-2007. In the original version, Nao (drummer and big sister of the guitar) sings the part that here do Atarashii Gakko, also Rin of Atarashii Gakko make a little "rap" that is play by Daisuke Tsuda (harsh vocals) in the original. And yes... the collaboration is great, even when the song is entirely Maximun the Hormone. MTH is a legend in Japan, and they do really, really, really weids song with a lot of humor sometimes. Try next "Koi no Sperm" And yes... the translation of the song is something like "amorous sperm". Sounds crazy, because is crazy. Just imagine in a concert, thounsand of people singing "sperma, sperma" 😅😅
The Atarashii Gakko rabbit hole is truly worth exploring. I just discovered them myself early this year. I discovered them via their song "Tokyo Calling," which you should really check out if you want to learn about this musical enigma knwon as Atarashii Gakko. After that, check out their performance on the First Take of their song "Otonablue." That's the song that sealed the AG deal for me. Enjoy! 😊
Refreshing that you are diving into the world of Japanese artists. I have been on this trip for 3 yrs now. So much to discover. I for once started with the kings of Visual Kei, XJapan and went from there. Check out "Kurenai"from the Last Live. You will like it, promise.- Thanks Matt ☮
The Geisha dressed woman singer in the last clean verse is Nao, Maximum The Hormones drummer. Both Band Maid's drummer Akane and Nemophila's drummer Tamu credit Nao as an inspiration to take up / focus on drums. Maximum The Hormone had an influence on a lot of more recent Japanese rock and metal bands. They have been around since the late 90s. Hanabie begun as a Maximum The Hormone cover band in school. This is a rerelease of an older Maximum The Hormone songs that has been rearranged to allow for the collab with Atarashii Gakko who are a really fun and idiosyncratic J-pop group. I think you pronounced Atarashii Gakko about right, but not speaking Japanese I could be very wrong :) If you want some more fun high energy heavy odd Japanese contrast from a group you haven't done yet on this channel or your shared channel, try the Deathcore Djent Funk Jazzy J-pop group Broken By The Scream Broken By The Scream - Sayonara Birthday mv ua-cam.com/video/Q8qOH-f6doM/v-deo.html
First hearing maximum the Hormone I was reminded of badbrains and their rapid switches from crazy fast trash with HR roaring to brilliant heavy Dub reggae.
Thanks for this Matt! MTH is literally legendary in Japan (and not really known elsewhere)! Here's a show where the ENTIRE audience was wearing helmets (and then switched to wearing nylon stockings) ua-cam.com/video/m77ykMf6bM0/v-deo.html Their crowd participation is just off the charts! Having 30,000 people at your show is one thing, but to have EVERY single person headbanging is just crazy... Keep going, just be careful about copyright strikes!
MtH is a wonderfully talented band that cross so many genres of music it isn't funny. Sometimes within the same song. Their drummer, Nao, has influenced so many of the female metal bands coming out of Japan that when a metal band full of women DON'T list her as an influence, it's weird. And Atarashii Gakko actually fits, energy-wise. They don't stick to one genre at all. Everyone in this video are amazingly talented.
Oh. And the Japanese music rabbit hole is almost endless, there’s over 1200 current rock-metal bands there, with hundreds more incredible artists that arnt rock Enjoy your journey We’re here to help 👍🇦🇺🤘
You found two fantastic bands/groups. Maximum the Hormone are totally crazy. They make HARD stuff and just weird ones. Sometimes a bit too weird. But they are sooooo goood, so I forgive them for that. This is an old MtH song. Originally the female drummer Nao sang the soft parts, and she also did the last parts here, in a kimono. Atarashi Gakko also is a crazy group. They generally are not all that hard. But they are fun and they are good. Its a dance and song group. No instruments. Do not know how their music backing tracks are made. Sometimes they only dance and their own voices is in the backing track. Anyhow, both groups are well worth checking out. Both are my favorites. NOTE - none of the two groups sing in English. Its Japanese all the way. For MtH I think you shall start with * Alien * Hungry Pride * Yoshu Fukushu * Zetsubo Billy * Shimi. NOTE that Nemophila have covered Shimi and Zetsubo Billy very good. For AG its harder to recommend. One obvious one is Otonablue in the "First Take" series. Its fun and adorable. Other than that - they have so many gems, but almost no western reactors know anything about them as the titles are in Japanese characters. Many western people recommend or react to "Tokyo Calling". I think it is one of their least interesting songs. OK, I write some songs that have western characters in their UA-cam titles. * Koi Geba (There is a lyrics video and a film, the film is kind of interesting and show their social engagement) * Free your mind * Night before the exam * Suki Lie * Hanako * Janaindayo * Maningen * The Edge (pixelated animation and 8 bit music) * Candy * Giri giri
Oh excellent, love MtH! Loved the reaction, come and join the ranks!!! Definitely check out Hungry Pride, easily a banger, but only listed on youtube in the Japanese kanji so ua-cam.com/video/tKZbHjy9GWM/v-deo.html マキシマム ザ ホルモン 『ハングリー・プライド』Also check out Yoshu Fukushu, solid solid solid "pop" punk/metal anthem. these guys are fun and weird and excellent musicians that have been around a LONG time. love you, Ue-chang!!!⚔🤘🏾

Got to react to some Hololive vtuber music. Im a metalhead but my god some tunes are just boppers. Like Off With Their Heads from Mori Calliope or UFO by Towa. see if you can survive the fall down that rabbit hole. Mind you i just found your channel so you may have already. I doubt it though.
excellent reaction , thank you , many reactors were blocked when this video came out , I really like MTH , but I confess that all these blocks made me lose some sympathy for the group even thinking about what their song ALIEN is about🙂

You should definitely stay tuned to both bands as the songs of both bands are very different from each other. From MTH I recommend Yoshu Fukushu next.
