- Опубліковано 18 тра 2024
- At Superbooth 2024, Jurgen from Jomox introduced the new Alphabase MK2*, the successor to the popular *Alphabase MK1*. Set to be released in October, this drum machine features improvements like more knobs and buttons, adjustable noise volume, and a variety of sound engines including analog, membrane, sample-based, and FM synth channels. With 500 sample slots and a built-in mixer, the *Alphabase MK2 offers easy programming and sequencing capabilities.
Additionally, Jurgen mentioned the *Moonwind Mk2*, which was released two months ago, featuring an OLED display, touchpad, and more knobs for improved usability. With a focus on experimental sounds and a built-in reverb effect, the Moonwind Mk2 offers users a chance to explore unique sonic possibilities.

Long time user and owner and have to say that the user interface never made sense to me until I did a heroic dose of mushrooms and then it all became clear
Life in nutshell
@@GTChris wish it had a bigger screen and good sequencer like Elektron gear. Erica Synths has similar issue. Only company that nailed the sequencer and user interface for drum synths has been Elektron.
@@GuitarsAndSynths or if u could say push the screen image to an I pad phone for larger viewing
@@GuitarsAndSynths Seriously - Elektron killed it with the sequencer. Unfortunately both the Syntakt and RYTM sound like pure mush to me. If you could put the sound engine from a JOMOX or Nord Drum in an Elektron box then drum machines will have reached their conclusion.
@@MBArkestra you can put samples
*JOMOX IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS*
Interviewer: "How much sample storage?"
Jurgen: "It's still in the megabyte range so not much. This is a drum machine not a sampler."
Interviewer: "Doesn't it have an SD slot?"
Jurgen: "Oh yeah, I forgot."
"The Alpha Base can sample external audio on these channels *for about max 5 seconds*. Which is more than enough for drum samples. The recorded sample can be stored on SD card or being copied to the internal flash memory and then being played back by the other sample channels. Samples can also be copied from SD card into flash memory."
@@HazeAnderson As someone from a certain era - 5 secs is plenty for a series of drum hits. A snare, kick and HH would be less than that - and as long as we can store a library of those sounds on the SD, that's just fine. Besides, the pattern would be mostly analog sounds generated by the AlphaB. Mingle in a few acoustic samples and that's perfect. This isn't a looper.
Extremely overpriced.
I always have a soft spot for drum machines.
Crazy I always have a hard on.
all things considered this might be the best drum synth ever, I have the mk1 and the kick in particular is superb
me too and I'm kinda pissed because now I have to get the new one and sell my current one.
I love the MBase11 too
this and Perkons would be fire especially add in the Erica Synths DB01 bassline and LXR than tons of portable drum bass options. The FM bass synth engine on the Jomox is really icing on the cake.
BEST DRUM MACHINE EVER, gets a mk2!!! Probably won't sell my v1 for this but I hope it encourages more people to get into this with the new screen etc. I'm saving up for the new moonwind 🙂
Always wanted an Alphabase
Love Jürgen and all his work
The only video i wanted to see and waited for 😁
I would never buy another JoMoX after my XBase 999. It shipped with a dead battery soldered onto the board, so it never saved programs. Some of the voices didn't respond to any MIDI notes. After a year, the screen died. They never responded to service requests. A friend had the exact same problem with the screen on their 999. They don't build reliable machines.
that sucks! So far my Jomox Eurorack mod bass drum module has been solid for almost 2 years.
I always thought this was the true spiritual successor to the TR-909
Yes, I believe so too. Wonder if they’ll be doing Black Friday deals?
Still waiting for the Roland TR-1010....but we will never get it.
Great interview, many thanks for sharing! 🙏
first of all awesome and I cannot afford this but the likelihood of me finding an MK1 in my budget just got a little higher LETSGO
Love it. Now.., what would it take to get them to make a new SunSyn?
Thanks for this video!
Oh wow. Never noticed this one until now!!
At 4:38 there's a bug. But not the kind of bug you'd expect from JoMoX.
especially this late in the game
great machine
Thank gods nothing important has been added), so i don't need to sell my original alphabase and buy new one, budget will be saved). But new display and colors of diods are nice.
The record in function on the MkII might be just enough to make me buy it.
"so i don't need to sell my original alphabase and buy new one," of course not, that's what Apple iPhone customers do. But listen carefully here: 6:10 take good care of your OG Alphabase and have it recapped in 20 or so years if you still have it.
actually the new Jomox would be tempting for me to buy as I just have an Elektron Rytm MK2.
Success to The Successor! 500 samples full (a "step jump" feature would be welcome?)
one day I will be able to buy it…❤
Magnificent
No kidding huh?? Kool man!
I love my Jomox eurorack bass drum module so this new Alphabase drum machine looks promising! Would be great to pair with his new Jomox FM synth.
does sound better than mk1 which i own. are the new samples available for the old one?
(So, the sample voices still have an analog filter?)
Yes, no changes to mk 1. The 2 hi hat sample voices have a 6db hi pass and a 6db resonance lp filter. The 4 other sample based instruments have a multi mode filter. The 2 xsample slots have no filter at all.
Best drum maschine ever, sounds amazing
that’d be an 808, but this thing sounds killer too
Sounds great! Oled display is nice. Might replace my 999 with this 😊
I chose the MFB Tanzbar 2 over the Alpha Base 4 years ago but I guess will have to sell my T2 and buy this one now.
Instead of maintaining his old products and implementing functions that were promised at the time of purchase, he prefers to stop development and bring out a new model. Yes, that's Jürgen!
Does the stereo panning work on the new one?
from this video, the answer is yes... but let's see some reviews once it's out. ;)
Yes yes yes yes yes yes 😀🤩🚀
Blows away the rytm imo
Does it have hi hat choking?
I love my AB as it is and i only would upgrade if the sampling process is optimized, the mbrane gets a wavefolder and the individual sends are returns too.
Otherwise mk2 makes no sense to me.
So its basically same?
Pls Update the ModFm OS!
FM rate on the LFOs would greatly expand the sonics
yeah nothing is good enough for people anymore and the consumer can demand whatever they want just because they have money and that makes them right
@@i-never-look-at-replies-lol you are greatly misunderstanding the comment. Its a tip, not a criticism. This is an excellent unit, highlight being the sound and MIDI implementation both fantastic! but if you have ever done FM on 909 toms? You'd know there is a whole universe of sonic drum dimension applicable by simply allowing LFO rate into audio range 😘
JOMOX perfect sound, bad ui and os. im go to crying
Just use a digitakt as your UI/OS & ur good to go
What it! But when?
November I think he said near the start of the video.
No vast improvements so far, no?
MKII is on my list! Must have. I love Jurgen but he must have been burned out, forgetting to mention all the features. Superbooth fatigue!
Yeah, definitely tired.
"We're here at Jomox with Jürgen"
"Hi, I'm Jürgen from Jomox"
I think I might sell my Airbase 99 and buy this.
I owned an Alphabase and the sequencer and the OS is crap. You better keep your Airbase 99 and save some pennies cause the sound is the same
Seriously Jomox, get someone that knows how to demo your new flagship product. Instead of "Oh yeah i forgot about that"
very pricey for what it is
love Jurgen just hate his encoders
"New Order Mode" ;-)
Unfortunately, in 2024, people mostly dance to the New World Order beat, in lockstep.
It's better to stay away from the overpriced drum machine. People mainly have problems and think that the sound is better than one for 300 euros, which of course is not the case. We live in a time when something exclusive is very expensive, but is not better. That's why Apple still exists😊
It might not be the case for this drum machine, but ‘higher price is better quality” is still rather a rule than an exception. The problem is that we live in a time where most people whine about money and don’t want to pay more for quality anymore, which is why most products are cheap and suck nowadays.
Regarding Apple, I use it, because it has the best OS for my usage. So in that case I do pay for the quality I want, I get and cannot get anywhere else.
Apple has several usp´s...
