    I love this boat so much, no boat needs 2 helms, it gives so much livable space by omitting the cabin helm.. it would be absolutely perfect if crossed with a Silent Yacht concept..

    In the Coast Guard on a 378 foot Cutter we "chased" followed Taiwanese salmon smugglers across the Pacific at 6 knots. That snails pace does something to your brain out there in the middle of no where. Drove us crazy pretty much. The Ocean is so overwhelmingly huge you just want to get thru it usually.
    International waters, we weren't allowed to board till we got all the way over to Taiwan. Great trip though. Ended up in Japan for 10 days. Then trundled home at 20 knots.

    This right here, or the Leopard 53, is what my wife and I are considering......but in about 5-6yrs. That should put a used one in our price range for retirement. The enclosed fly is the ticket if you are going without an lower helm, and who wants that taking up space down there?

    To Steve can u add if any dock FEES for cats over single hulls. Docks list x$ per foot. What happens when u dock a wide cat thanks.
    As many years as u have had on the water. Boat Test should come out with a sun block line for crews and captains.

    • @BoatTEST
      @BoatTEST  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you! Yes, Cats generally will need two slips to handle the wider beam. But really depends on the marina. Most marinas have an outside dock that is typically used by boats over 50’ (15.24 m), and others have over-size slips for large boats that the Aquila 54 can squeeze into.

    • @franksmith3602
      @franksmith3602 3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for the answer. It's kind of a wow answer double the slip fee is kind of a game changer.

    No matter how big your yacht is, or how much it costs there’s, keep in mind that there’s only about three quarters of an inch separating you from the bottom. Think about it when you want to be reckless on the water.

      It likely comes down to taste, and budget. I absolutely prefer the range and fuel economy of the leopard.

  • @michiganengineer8621
    @michiganengineer8621 3 роки тому

    I wonder if that high speed turning radius would be reduced if you were to cut power to the inner (to the turn) engine? Make it a little easier for the outer engine to push the boat around. Love those fuel numbers for long range cruising! However . . .
    Three strikes against this cat for what I'd be interested in it for.
    1. Air draft, not including the electronics or anything else, waterline to the top of the hardtop is over 20 feet.
    2. Beam, at over 25 feet this combined with the air draft would make it unsuitable for Looping.
    3. Price tag, since I haven't played the right numbers for Powerball or MegaMillions yet . . . .

    I can't help but compare this to the leopard. I have a feeling that what it lacks in range, it makes up for in safety and luxury. I'll have to wait till the features video to confirm my theory 👍

      You can always have bigger tanks added, plenty of people can do that for you.
      And at 3.5 knots she does 5000 miles. See the full report.

    • @sadenuttie2234
      @sadenuttie2234 3 роки тому +3

      @@darthkek1953 There are plenty reasons why travelling at 3.5 knots is downright stupid. You clearly have not looked into doing crossings at all. let’s say you are doing a 2600nm crossing, it would take you 30 days to get to your destination. That much time in the open ocean is unhealthy, limited and not fresh supplies, no exercise, excessive boredom. Not to also meantion the various safety issues with doing that. One of the great things about this modern era is accurate weather forecasting. But forecasting is only really steady and reliable for 14 days. If a storm comes that you want to outrun you are fucked because you are limited by the same speed that got you into the situation in the first place. Not to mention if if you are travelling in a poor, tropical area which has unpredictable weather. Final point is currents, that travel time may be prolonged by currents working against you. A lot of currents you face are strong, travelling 3.5 knots or stronger. If they work against you then guess what, your travel time is prolonged to 40-45 days, and we run into issues that I mentioned before.
      The point being this is not a long range vessel capable of 5000nm. You want a suitable long range cat, look at Iliad or lagoon, not the coastal cruising Aquila’s
      And rowers, tf are you talking about. We talking about boats here and you being in rowers. What are you on abbt
