Committed 9 prior crimes and was let go scott free. No wonder he continued, he thought that he was untouchable because he is a 'child'. Fortunately, for law abiding citizens, you can't carjack from the grave.

I am sorry but I cannot feel sorry for a boy that put himself in danger and tried to rob another person. Why was a 13 year old out at 10 pm? The biggest issue with kids these days are the parents do not parent the children. If he was already in trouble for a prior car jacking, his butt should have been at home. I blame the parents and the boy. His actions caused his own death.

The media never interviews class room teachers of students like this. I’m a retired, inner city (South Bronx, NY) middle school teacher and I had a hundred or more students like this. I guarantee he was a nightmare in the class room. Disruptive, disrespectful and even dangerous. The media also never shows current photographs of these youth criminals, and I’ll bet this is the case here.
The next day my guess is that his teachers collectively sighed in relief at the news.

My dad taught in the Bronx too, I remember going to his school and seeing how they acted. I think I'm his time there around 3-5 students have been killed doing similar stuff like this. Then the school does a little memorial, but the kid was barely there. The argument usually being racism the schools are racist and under funded the kids don't learn, but most schools in NYC are public, they all receive the same funding, and we all across the state, take the regents exam. You know just as well as I do what that is. And people wanna argue racism. If you don't go to school you don't learn, you don't learn your can't find work, can't find work you steal, this is a teen, idk why hes out at 10pm trying to carjack people, good questions for his parents. You know how those parent teacher conferences go, you know when you try and tell the parent their kid doesn't do homework and is disruptive in class, parents don't believe you they believe their angelic son. Until he doesn't pass then they blame the teacher. I say, give the parents a simple test, same average test the students take and see how the parents do. If the kids can't do it, and the parents don't help, now we have an idea as to why the kid died. The beauty and curse of having a parent who was a teacher, I could never say it's the teachers fault. My dad would check my bag for homework if he had to, he befriended most of my teachers, shit I've had teachers offer to drive me home because they were doing lesson planning with my dad, I was in white plains, he was in Bronx.

I don't feel bad for the kid
    Late at night
    Walking around with a friend
One of them had the brilliant idea to try and carjack someone
Ask his parents if they raised him to steal cars, ask them if they raised him to possibly carry a gun, ask them if they think at 10pm in dangerous area, is it good for a 13 year old to be walking around? Who was the other friend he was hanging with that night? If they don't know then ask what they do know about their son and this situation. If they say they know nothing then their either bad parents or don't pay attention. His parents can be mad at police and this man all they want, but he didn't pull up to the kids walking, draw his gun and shoot. He didn't do a drive-by, he was sitting, in his own car, waiting to work. Your son and his friend approached his car and demanded he got out. Your son died because of his own stupidity. He wanted to go for a joy ride in someone else's car because he thought he'd be cool, he spent too much time playing GTA. Shit I remember when vice city came out and all the police departments said it's gonna cause people to get worse, and we all thought noooo. Now look, rampant drug use, high speed chases, almost every night somewhere there's a young kid stealing someone else's car, and sometimes those kids get shot, run over, car accidents where's they are injured. There was a story about 3 girls who stole a car and tried to outrun the cops, crashed through a fence into a lake, couldn't escape the car because water pressure was too great and they drowned. Families tried to sue the police. But then again your kids bodies are found in a lake, in a car you, and your family, and the other families don't own, why are your kids in this car? Luckily the judge threw out the case because it's complete bullshit. We all have to suffer the consequences of our actions, sometimes those consequences are life ending. Use your head, don't steal cars.

But to ask his parents these questions means people are gonna say your victim blaming. But he wasn't the victim, he was the perpetrator. Him getting shot yea victim of that but it's because he attempted to commit a crime, which got him killed. I bet the kid has prior run ins at school with principal for fighting, or causing a disturbance. His 9 priors include carjacking, stolen cars and armed robbery. All things good 13 year old boys. I hate that everyone tries to sugar coat it and say he was a good kid. They did the same with George Floyd. 46 prior arrests, multiple for drug possession and sales including heroin cocaine and fentanyl. But his family said he found Jesus, I can say that too, doesn't mean jack shit. Oh can't forget the holding a pregnant woman at gunpoint while pointing the gun in her belly. A year to the date of his death, while news cameras there at the site a shooting happened 🤦. And then a mural made of him, was struck by lighting taking down part of the wall. Like I'm not religious but shit even I have to say devine intervention. There's no accountability anymore. And with government not supporting law enforcement, less cops. Less cops means more crime as we're seeing especially in blue states. Officers retiring, transferring or quiting, and the recruitment level is horrible. So crime is gonna go on the rise. But the news doesn't care it's rating for them and things to talk about. Is carjacking people a smart thing to do? Made a stupid decision? Yes him and a lot of other people, maybe that's why carjacking is illegal🤷. He'd jokingly say he's the principal? If your a parent, of a 12-13 year old, who's been arrested 9x, you need to PARENT YOUR FUCKING KID. Well I mean you can't now but🤷, look hopefully if he has siblings or cousins, they take away from this, don't carjack people, same with his classmates. Don't tip toe around the issue. Black female mayor, police chief, city commissioners, school principal this demographic shift might explain why our communities are so broken. These kids are treating it like it's a game and you get bragging points at school when you talk about it. This is the justice systems fault. 13 years old and already well known to the police? It's not the fault of the police, it's the court system that is failing. If he had been in juvenile detention, he would still be alive.

The parents should be arrested and charged, and the principal of the school, who lavished great praise on this criminal, should be fired as she has not a clue about the thugs in her presence, and clearly is a dangerous influence on children.

DC is one of many, many places that has eliminated cash bail. Very few kids understand the difference between jail (where you wait to have your trial if you can't make bail or the judge says you are too dangerous to let out) vs prison (where you go if you are found guilty). To them, if you don't go to jail, then there won't be any real consequence for what you did. I very much believe that (1) this young man should be in juvenile hall awaiting a trial , (2) should get a meaningful prison sentence of 10-15 years if found guilty, (3) mentoring and counseling. Items 2 and 3 are not mutually exclusive. The fact is that he will never get ANY of these things because he acted like he had a gun, so he was treated like he had a gun, and now he gets a funeral. Yes, it makes me sad and I think it's an awful tragedy. But it's one he could have avoided if he had decided to do something other than to front like he's a baddie with a gun.

Live by the sword you die by the sword. Unbelievable human waist of a child his parents must be so proud. My son made it to 50 years old and even went to Catholic school.he knew I didn't play games, and I worked. My Naval husband was gone often, and my son knew the assignment wasn't about to let a child defy my curfews.

Not a tragedy. This was completely avoidable. He was a one-teen crime wave.

Parents need to start being charged, that child should have been home.
