  • This film is rough for the first 20 seconds... Filmed 50 years ago "The Family; Lifestyles of the Future." Featuring the "Perth County Conspiracy" a Folk/Psychedelic music group. One must wonder of the present-day results, & the now grown-up kids of this particular commune; how are they all doing today? Anthropologist Margaret Mead is also featured in this film. The film was rough scanning and digitizing thus this is all the better we can get it.

Very interesting indeed. The narrator at the end says that the people of the 21st century may know more deeper interpersonal relationships than ever before.
And yet we are more isolated and disconnected from one another than ever before. An absolute intolerance of difference of opinion is looked at as admirable.
Something went wrong. Maybe none of the these people took things like ego or greed into consideration. No one considered building a strong foundation for the new ways before tearing down the old one. Or maybe they didn't follow through on what they started. Although their goals were admirable, they just seemed to be winging it.

Every single one of them acted from ego and greed. All the adults talked about in this film were how this lifestyle suited THEM best. Fk everyone else. So it's 50 years later. Marxism of the 70s disguised by words like "love" for true selfishness produced the Marxist America we live in today. Great job, boomers.

Thanks a lot for sharing this. This is the only performance footage of the PCC that I have ever seen. This commune's performing arm released two albums on Columbia -- in addition to several private releases -- and were somewhat of regional celebrities, but for some reason they never really made it across the border to true stardom. Seeing them play "Crucifixation Cartoon" as well as singing the Incredible String Band's "This Moment" to the kids gave me the chills. A very cool historical artifact -- thanks again!

There is another documentary about PCC . I saw it when I was a kid in high school . I'm pretty sure it was on an old CBC show called Telescope . After seeing this doc I found out they were playing that summer at a local park with some other local artists . I remember the bus being there , the stage had homemade tapestries used as a back drop . I remember sitting with hippies who were a little older than me . Lot's of pot smoking . They also sold homemade donuts that I remember were very tasty . A cherished memory !! If anybody knows about the doc I mentioned and knows hwere to find it please provide a link I'd love to see it .

What a find! I grew up in Perth County, Ontario in the 1990s and 2000s and always heard about this almost mythical collective. I have a couple of their albums. They were definitely the roundest peg in the squarest of holes where they chose to settle.

They are really good. I wish they would have added some electric guitar songs too, but I really like their music. Way above average.

do you think the anthropologist Margaret Mead's strange behavior of late could be explained by a private marijuana addiction?

It was in Perth County, between Detroit, Michigan and Toronto, Canada. People came and went during the years, but they existed from about 1970 until around 1978.
