How I wish I could find a few folks who share my dream!! I bought just 17 acres in the Ozarks of Missouri with every intention of erecting small buildings to be used throughout the property, and creating orchards and gardens and of course, raising bees. Its just going to slow. My fear is I would end up with drug addicts or people I would want evicted or people who would trash may beautiful natural environment. I dunno.

@@happyfuntimeks9699it’s updated: the property will actually be going into phase 1…the campsite for volunteers. We hope to host several folks who don’t mind sleeping in tents and food, kayaks, etc., provided. There are plans for an educational walking trail to be carved out, a pond clean up, an old remarkable building being disassembled and the wood/tin moved into the woods to become a non-denominational chapel for all to enjoy and vibe out to the surrounding woods. No chemicals, rustic showers, music and movies after relatively short, 5-hour workdays. Not bad really. Very hopeful for the property’s future being open to all.

Hi Tarah. Those things on your hands look like pompholyx. It's a type of eczema that can turn really nasty unless well cared for. Your natural skin barrier has been disturbed or worn down by something external, most likely, and that is allowing the allergens and bacteria to irritate your skin. I see more community issues with unbalanced power than with disabled / abled dichotomy.

This looks like it could be right up my alley ( or down my life's path) I have 20 in Chesaw Washington with timber mineral and water rights that I would love to do something like this with. To live up there alone would be so hard and maybe even a little scarry...I love the idea of being around people with a common ground eager to make things work...As I write this my heart is sad to see this world being destroyed by those that just don't get the outcome of their choices. Right now they are knocking trees down like crazy.. Clearing away the under brush to build more houses ...I am an animal activist, watching the birds , rabbits , mnt lion , bear ,and all the little critters being run out of their homes..Needless to say this makes me cry..I feel a helplessness that is hard to shake..Even knowing I own 20 acres , there what they call eminent domain...
I work alongside different animal resues by fostering , I am looking to be part of , or for off grid property up that way.. Is this something that could happen there on a small scale ? do you have or could you let me know if you run across any property up your..I'm in Garden valley CA
    Thanks for any help

Luckily things are still going after Caroline's passing. A number of responsible members still remained. We currently have 10 folks living here. Failure is a hard thing to pin down, as Alpha has been so many things over the years. I think groups here have failed before, but new groups naturally fill in the space, and a way of living is passed down. Alpha's flexibility is what has kept it from breaking.

How do they pay for everything (regular expenses, taxes, insurance, etc..)? Do they operate any kind of business venture at the property to help pay for things? They should probably consider something like that. It would allow a lot of improvements, possibly allow for expansion, and help everyone thrive within the community. I know other intentional communities have adopted this model and through shared work accomolished a great deal. Some are even able to pay for medical care when someone becomes ill or is injured. I didn't see any alternative energy projects or anything like that going on. I'm curious if anything along those lines is being done. They really should try to collectively work on projects like that which would serve everyone in the community and give them the best quality of life possible.
I would think someone at the property should have a rifle to protect the people staying there just in case a dangerous wild animal were to come onto property and possibly even attack someone. As you stated, their are bears in the area. You can't really protect yourself with good intentions.

    • @marafolse8347

Hi! Yes, we collectively work on many projects, though no alternative energy in this moment. We have delivered the mail for the entire surrounding area since 1973, and that has been the financial backbone of the community. Money has also been made through the Alpha Bit Cafe, the Alpha Institute, and farming. We have many encounters with black bears and other wildlife, guns have never been necessary to deal with them. Really appreciate your interest!

Do you guys want to invest in a Kangen water ionizer ? It will help get your conventional produce clean when you buy from the store and will clean up the pesticides in your water and help with your rash :)

You got my thumbs up as soon as I seen you fertilizing with clover! Agricultural land is being raped with laboratory fertilizers! Our land is dying a slow death due to greed. Much love from Scotland. I may not have long hair, but I'm looking more like Buddha as the years roll on!! lol.

What a wonderful place!! Was the land originally donated for this purpose?? And how do you earn money that you would need for the things you can grow? It would be so wonderful to have more places like this but I think the biggest hurdle would be the land🍎🥔🥦🌽🫐🌽

The land was purchased from the previous owners in 1972 by the founders, and money is made largely from a mail delivery contract acquired in 1973.
