@Safwaan a lot of government investment went to the Korean Peninsula where it would otherwise have gone to the Tohoku area. The cheap agricultural goods from Korea competed with the goods from Tohoku as well. Tohoku still remains relatively poor compared to other regions.

One critique: Hideyoshi couldn't declare himself Shogun as he didn't have a claim to the title due to him being a commoner. He instead took the title of "Daijo Daijin" (Chancellor of the Realm), as that was really the best he could get. However, he still easily commanded the authority of all the Daimyo in his court, especially the remainder of Nobunaga's old generals like Ieyasu or Mitsunari. Also, I had a fight-or-flight response upon seeing the Aum Shinrikyo ending.

You mean the best ending. Japanese culture is never compromised and without the impetuousness to try to conquer the world that Japan showed in our timeline, it is never punished by the allies, or in the case of an axis victory vulnerable to an attack by Germany. Remember. Uneasy lies the head which wears the crown and the ruling nation is usually pretty well hated as Rome was, as Britain was and as the USA is.
